I finished Mr, Wrong Number on Monday, and needed a day to stew about it. You know those moments where a book is great, but a couple moments just…lag? Don’t connect? Stick out? They something, and you feel torn if it’s enough to impact the overall book, when it’s a you thing?

That’s me and this book.

I got a few chuckles, and LOVED Colin, and while I greatly enjoyed Olivia, personally, I am burnt out on the manic pixie dream girl, hot mess combo. She often came across at I Love Lucy levels of slapstick, and some were great, and relatable, but then it just kept coming in every single situation, and I got burned out by it.

I know this sounds like a negative review, but it’s more a “if you’re looking for a high hijinks RomCom, this would be a fabulous choice, but it wasn’t a good fit for me” review.

Thank you to @netgalley @berkleyromance and @berkleypub for my eArc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter is a brother’s best friend romance that makes this an enjoyable fun-filled love story, as Olivia falls for her brother’s best friend Colin. Olivia Marshall has the worse luck in the world; her latest disaster being accidently starting a fire while burning love letters from her ex. This disaster not only has her losing all her belongings, but also homeless, and jobless. Fortunately, her brother and his roommate, his longtime irritating best friend Colin, let he stay in their apartment. Then Olivia gets a text from a random number asking what she’s wearing. Before she knows it, she ends up texting with the stranger, creating a “text-relationship” with this guy, Mr. Wrong Number, while she tries to navigate her new life. Soon, Olivia starts relying on Mr. Wrong Number while they bounced back ideas about life and plans for the future. Colin Beck has not once thought about Olivia in any way other than her being his best friend's chaotic, annoying, hot mess younger sister. Even when she moved in, he could have never believed that he'd ever think of her as more than that. But the longer he sees her, the more he puts together the puzzle that is Olivia and he begins to understand her a bit more. Colin's going to get a few more surprises but nothing tops the fact that Olivia is less mess, more beautiful, and is getting under his skin. The chemistry between these two is off-the charts, lighting up their apartment building.

Ms. Painter wrote an enjoyable, humorous, delightful story read full of snark and sass and a lot of laughs that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, family dynamics, clever humorous banter, lots of laughs, and strong secondary characters giving Olivia and Coline a chance at love, happiness, and a future together. I highly recommend Mr. Wrong Number to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

This was adorable! So swoon-y & the chemistry was great. Steamy but not over-the-top graphic. Would highly recommend. Loved the sexual tension & the overall storyline. 5/5 stars, would definitely recommend to romance fans.

Olivia Marshall is literally a hot mess. Colin Beck is Mr Type A, who's also Mr Wrong Number. Together they make for the most hilarious couple.
This was light and funny, and it made me wish I had someone I could text like that. Happy to recommend to anyone looking for a lighthearted, funny, You've Got Mail retelling.

Oh my gosh I don’t even know where to start with this review!! This was an easy 5 stars for me and a book I didn’t want to put down. The banter! The swooning! Olivia was freaking hilarious and fun and cool, I want to be like her when I grow up... I loved her personality and heart from the first page to the last. Colin was like a rough diamond of a man, and reading his cocky façade fade to show the sweetheart he actually is was so rewarding.

Mr. Wrong Number comes out TODAY and needs a spot on your March TBR! Feel free to message me any ooo’s and aaahhh’s while you read it!

I received an ARC from Netgalley. Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for the copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Right now with all the hate swirling around the world I find myself drawn to humour. I just want to laugh. Mr Wrong Number will cause you to laugh out loud. True Story: I was crying myself to sleep and sudden I remembered the job interview where Olivia starts to laugh hysterically while describing how she burnt down her apartment. I was lying in the dark, tears on my face, cackling Out Loud.

Olivia's luck has always been dubious. She epitomizes the phrase "If they didn't have bad luck, they wouldn't have any luck at all." When she is dumped by her cheating boyfriend, she accidentally burns down the apartment while destroying his love letters. Now Olivia finds herself without a job or extra spending money. With only her clothes on her back, she finds herself leaving Chicago and moving back home and crashing at her brother & his roommate's place. His roommate is none other than Colin, the boy who made her teenage years miserable.

The bright part of this crapfest is a random text message from an anonymous stranger. Their electronic chats are filled with heat and connection and Olivia thinks her luck might be about to change. Colin has also changed and now he's kind and witty, and Olivia feels sparks.

So why not 5 stars?? I didn't feel a real connection between Colin and Olivia. I could sense it more in the text messages but IRL? Not so much. I missed genuine emotion from Olivia specifically. I wanted more depth, more emotions.

Are you a rom-com fan? A text from a wrong number leads Olivia into a relationship with the anonymous Mr Wrong Number. Olivia has had a string of bad luck and temporarily moves in with her brother and his best friend Colin. Colin tries to keep his distance but what happens when he discovers she's actually Miss Misdial?

This was a cute rom-com with steamy texting banter. It's an enemies to lovers story with forced proximity and brother's best friend tropes. Olivia is a bit of a hot mess but you can't help liking and rooting for her. Colin starts out seeming very straight laced but Olivia soon sees another side of him. I enjoyed seeing these characters connect and work past their misunderstandings. If you're in the mood for a fun romance, add this to your TBR.

Thank you to the publisher for my e copy of this book.

Olivia is down on her luck and recently moved in with her brother and his best friend, Colin, whom she’s always thought of as an arrogant jerk, even if he is super hot. When she receives a random text from a wrong number one night, flirtatious and entertaining texting ensues. Little does she know that Colin is none other than her Mr. Wrong Number.

Colin always thought of Olivia as his best friend’s annoying little sister, but after she moved in, he started looking at her in a different light. So of course he didn’t know how to handle it when he found out she was Miss Misdial, the number he accidentally texted one night. Now he doesn’t know whether to ghost her or come clean.

This was such a charming enemies to lovers rom-com that made me laugh out loud so many times! Poor Olivia was a hot mess! If she didn’t have bad luck, she wouldn’t have any luck! Colin was almost too perfect - extremely attractive, successful, neat and organized, and always put together. Good thing opposites attract! It was interesting to see how Olivia and Colin’s relationship played out after Colin realized Olivia was Miss Misdial while Olivia still had no clue he was Mr. Wrong Number. The texts between them were witty, swoony, and highly entertaining! I was annoyed with Olivia’s actions at one point, but of course there’s always a conflict, and it all worked out in the end! This super sweet and absolutely delightful rom-com was just what I needed to brighten my mood!

Oh my gosh, this novel is HILARIOUS. I loved the quick, witty banter between Mr. Wrong Number and Miss Misdial (LOL their names!!!)

I sat and read this in one sitting (like 2 hours max) and it was the best 2 hours I’ve spent in a while. It has been way too long since I literally laughed out loud at two characters’ banter and Painter has done it to perfection!

If you need the best laugh while you are cringing, then this is it. Read it, then tell me how much you laughed as well!

4.5 Hits All The Marks Stars
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-A Quick Review
Many, Many Years ago, I had an experience with the exciting thrill of texting with someone I was interested in. There was the anticipation, the thrill of opening it up and seeing what was said...and then figuring out how to test back to keep this continuing until both of us had to go.

When this type of communication happens, and it isn't something you don't all of the time, it can be addictive.

Lynn Painter took this idea and surrounded it with smart quirky characters, the troupe of brother's best friend/annoying little sisters/just be friends environment, and forced closeness. This story had so much working for it, even when it bordered on being almost out of control.

If you love to have a book make you laugh out loud, have you feel the same emotions as the characters, then grab this for fun.

This is on my top 10 favorite books of the year. I loved this book so much. I finished it in 8 hours! It was cute, hilarious, frustrating, and perfect. I just wish we had a little clarity at the end if a certain person moved away or not. I highly, highly recommend everyone reading this!

🎉 HAPPY PUB DAY! 🎉

SUMMARY: Liv Marshall is your go-to romcom heroine—unlucky in life and in love. But things start to look up when she moves in with her brother and his long-time friend, the perfect and perfectly smug Colin Beck. They hate each other, but there’s definitely some chemistry there. Meanwhile, a random text from stranger kicks off a fun, flirty conversation that Liv can’t help but look forward to. You guys know where this is going…

You know how the 90s was the Golden Age of romcoms? Basically all the best feel-good Meg Ryan/Sandra Bullock movies came out of this period. Mr. Wrong Number took a look at those gems and said: yes, exactly that. It’s fun, funny, and predictable in exactly the ways that you want. A perfect romcom.

I knocked it out pretty quickly and enjoyed every minute. Check it out if you’re here for:

💖 Enemies to lovers
💖 Best friend’s younger sister
💖 One bed (ish)
💖 Witty banter

My ONLY criticism is that I really wanted an explanation (even a thin one) for why the wrong number happened between two people living in the same apartment. Even this hardened romance reader gave that “coincidence” the side eye.

Otherwise, it’s an entertaining and expertly crafted romantic comedy that romance readers will enjoy!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

There’s some open door sex scenes, but nothing too graphic, so I’d give this a 🔥🔥🔥/5.

Mr. Wrong Number is available today! Thank you to @netgalley @berkleyromance and @lynnpainter for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review.

A laugh-out-loud, swoony texting roommate romance with great banter, a clumsy, smart mouthed heroine, and a grumpy roomie who also happens to be Olivia’s irritating brother’s best friend. This book is such a joy to read! It’s endearing and has the perfect balance of wit and seriousness. I want to see this one on the big screen!

Olivia Marshall is a magnet for bad luck. After losing her job and accidentally burning down her apartment, she moves in with her brother and his annoyingly handsome best friend, Colin Beck. While Olivia tries to pull her life together, someone with the wrong number texts her. What starts out as a simple wrong text turns into a full out relationship between her and the guy she calls Mr. Wrong Number. Little does she know that Mr. Wrong Number is also the annoyingly good-looking Colin Beck.

Lynn Painter is quickly becoming one of my favorite romcom authors. Her writing is smart, comical, and completely binge worthy. I want Olivia to be my best friend and I want Colin to be my roommate. These two have explosive chemistry and the texting conversations are dialogue perfection. Easily a five star read for me and a romance that shines with fresh ingenuity and charm!

<i>Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.</i>

<strong>Mr. Wrong Number</strong> was SO easy to start reading.  Once reading, it was addictive.  The emotional rollercoaster was the biggest one with laughing, crying, cheering, and furious screams.  While some aspects were completely ridiculous, I couldn't help feeling it.

Olivia is somewhat a klutz and a mess, but she lives life with her whole heart.  She moves in with her brother, Jack,  and best friend, Colin, after losing her boyfriend, job and apartment all in one disaster.  She has some clothes from high school at her parents and no money to replace things yet.  She believes Jack and Colin have always joked about her and her failures.  She sees Colin as entitled and arrogant.

When she gets a text from a misdial, they start up a honest conversation about things in life. It's smart and sassy and they connect.  The texters confide in each other and support each other.  Colin discovers Ms. Misdial is Olivia and tries to ghost her but she's persistent and he's come to enjoy having their conversations.

The combination of Olivia working through things and rebuilding her life,  along with an interesting relationship development with Colin is a fantastic read.  Colin and Olivia know each other peripherally for many years, but not really in a one-on-one basis.  It's a minor enemies-to-lovers but it's more they didn't know each other well.   I love them both!

A huge thank you to @berkleyromance for the free copy Lynn Painter’s (@lynnpainterkirkle) most recent novel Mr. Wrong Number!

Lynn Painter was first recommended to me by @literallybookedsolid and boy was she spot on! I’ve loved her books (see my review of Better Than The Movies for more).

Mr. Wrong Number had me from the beginning. From the first chapter when train-wreck Olivia has to move in with her brother and his roommate, the descriptions had me laughing. Her circumstances are abysmal and truly she’s a bit of a walking disaster like Amelia Bedelia. When Olivia gets a sexy text from a wrong number, she can’t resist the urge to respond and so begins the most unusual of friendships.

This book was cute, soul-searching, and dealt a lot with self-talk and self-confidence. I think far too often we let the reactions of others determine too much of how we act and feel. There is a lot about dating now that is quite toxic and this books digs into ghosting culture and the anonymity of the internet. It’s a bit steamy and there’s quite a lot of sizzle and fireworks. The romance is there and the comedy is there too with all the warm fuzzies.

I will say, check your reality bound expectations at the door and just let yourself fall into the chaotic world of Olivia Marshall and you won’t be disappointed!

“She was less shitshow and more about living in high-definition, wide awake, full on 5K color. Or something more poetic than that. But once I’d seen it, I couldn’t unsee it., It was in everything she did, and it was everyone was drawn to her the way they were.”

Olivia Marshall’s life is spiraling out of control after she catches her boyfriend cheating on her with her co-worker. It goes from bad to worse when she is forced to move in with her brother after accidently burning down her apartment. No job, no apartment, and barely anything to her name Olivia is forced to face the mess that is her life. Absolutely nothing is going her way until she receives a text from Mr. Wrong Number who makes Olivia start to feel alive again, but will she be disappointed when she finds out who he is in the real world?

I think the really great thing about this book is that most of us can relate to Olivia. Some of us truly have days where we are disasters falling over our own two feet or making blunders that are extremely embarrassing. It’s because of how human she is that we are able to connect with her so easily. I was rooting for her after every mishap hoping that she finally landed her dream job and the perfect guy, and that her life was going to improve drastically. She is hilarious, sarcastic, self-deprecating, and unapologetically herself. Mess and all. I loved that so much about her.

Colin Beck, Mr. Wrong Number, was the perfect hero. He was everything that Olivia was not. They balanced each other perfectly. This was a quirky and fun romantic comedy that I think a lot of readers will enjoy.

Fans of romantic comedies similar to those of Sally Thorne and Abby Jimenez may find this something that checks all the boxes for them.

This was a really engaging book and I devoured it in pretty much a day. Some irritating character flaws aside (seriously, there are just some things you shouldn't write off as 'oh, so-and-so's just being so-and-so!') I liked Olivia and Colin. I look forward to reading more from this author!

What a fun time! If you’re looking for a book full of charm, laughs, and steam, this romcom is for you!

I love when authors incorporate texts, emails, or any other form of communication in romances, and the witty (and steamy) banter going on in this text exchange was *chef’s kiss*!

I really loved our characters. I found both Olivia’s utter chaos and Colin’s hidden romantic completely charming and loved that they were so different from each other. The romance seemed to fall somewhere between closed door and steamy, and these two definitely didn’t lack tension! That being said, I’m not a fan of lying by ommission which is present here and it just went on for too long and became too convoluted for me. I would have enjoyed this story a lot more without that aspect.

However, I did really enjoy the writing and there were so many parts where I couldn’t stop reading! This was a quick read for me and I would still recommend this one for romcom fans out there!

Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC! Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter was one of my most anticipated romcoms for 2022, so I was really excited to read it!

After a string of bad luck leads to Olivia Marshall to being dumped by her cheating boyfriend and her apartment burning down, Olivia is forced to move back to Omaha and in with her brother and his best friend, Colin Beck. While Olivia tries to get her life together and find a job, she's stuck dealing with Colin who loves to tease her when she gets a text from a wrong number. Olivia begins a fun and flirty relationship with Mr. Wrong Number as Miss Misdial, But that all comes to a halt when Colin (who's Mr. Wrong Number) realizes Misdial is Olivia.

Olivia was such a sweet character even with her sometimes cringey choices, and her banter with Mr. Wrong Number/Colin was hilarious. Colin and Olivia's chemistry was intense, and it was so great to see how Colin cared about Olivia and wanted to help her. Of course, their relationship hits a speed bump when the truth about Mr. Wrong Number and Miss Misdial comes out, but in true rom-com fashion, the ending was sweet and satisfying.

This was my first Lynn Painter read, but I really loved the story and its characters! I highly recommend it!
