I really enjoyed this one. Our hero and heroine had great chemistry. I felt the romance was real and truly loved what Carlyle did with this historical story. Amazing read that I couldn’t put down.
Generally, I don't enjoy reading about working heroines. Probably as I am working my behind off all the time, I like the women in my books to play piano, embroider, take strolls and have hight tea with scones and cucumber sandwiches. Yes, I know that's not how it really was for everyone, but I like fantasy. Anyhow, Maddie works and she is good at what she does. Her Duke is a more believable version of the classic "dark and broody'. He's not tons of fun, but it makes sense why not and the author does not over do it. I liked that there was genuine communication - the story seemed very modern in that respect. A good story to read for a pleasant, warm experience.
Absolutely charming! I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well-developed and likeable, the plot was interesting/unique and it gave me that warm, happy feeling!
Maddie and Will make a bargain to help each other out. As they spend more time together sparks fly. Carlyle is an amazing author and this was a good book. It is very sweet and light. There's not any angst or drama, really. If you are looking for a lighthearted read this a good one.
I really enjoy this author and her fun, sweet romances! This book didn’t have drama which is a nice break from those that do have a lot! I though Maddie and Will were a great match with good chemistry! I liked the dynamic of a hard working heroine & hero. Both proving themselves and learning what they really want in life! It took place in a small town by the beach. These two are def grumpy/sunshine for those who love the trope! All in all a light hearted read!
William and Madeline's story left me feeling very satisfied. I loved that is was low angst and light hearted. After reading so many heavy books (not arcs) this book was just what I needed. It was super sweet and definitely cleansing to the palate. I Highly recommend this book!
Since inheriting his title, William Hart, the Duke of Ashmore, has done everything in his power to undo the damage his unscrupulous father did to the family name. Unfortunately, his ruthless honesty has gained him a reputation for being a joyless prig. He may be a catch thanks to his title, but his reputation as a dullard makes him less than a success in London society. His sisters all but force him to a neglected ducal property in Cornwall for some relaxation and he reluctantly agrees to go try to find the man he was before he assumed so much responsibility.
Madeline Ravenwood likes to stay as busy as possible. For her this means running the plant nursery business her parents established and left to her and co-chairing the Royal Visit Committee in her small Cornish town. The work of preparing for Princess Beatrice’s visit to the town is enough to keep Maddie hopping and she doesn’t need the distraction of a stern but very attractive duke.
When Maddie, on behalf of the committee, asks Will to make some repairs to his eyesore of an estate, he reluctantly agrees, but only if she’ll spend time showing him around Cornwall in exchange. As they spend days, and soon enough nights, together, Will falls ever more in love with Maddie, but she’s acutely aware of how different their lives are and he’s not sure he’ll be able to convince her to subject herself to the changes becoming his duchess will bring to her life.
I loved how light-hearted and low angst this book was. It left me feeling happy and satisfied without the MCs having spent copious amounts of time apart doing soul searching. Maddie and Will did spend a good amount of time ruminating on all the reasons they shouldn’t be together, but they ultimately followed their hearts and there was never any real doubt that they belonged together given how strong their connection so obviously was. I enjoyed the easiness that existed between Maddie and Will and how they just came together through mutual attraction and minimal drama. She got to know Will as no one else had, without judging him for his father’s actions or his ruthless attempts to right the wrongs he inherited. He also got Maddie to slow down and take some time to acknowledge what she truly wanted to be doing, rather than focusing so much on upholding her parents’ legacy. These two were just wholesome and endearing together and I loved the building and natural progression of their relationship with a real foundation in their connection beyond just physical attraction. It was also nice to have pretty open communication between them and I enjoyed that she was able to help Will relax and just be himself outside of the expectations placed on him. I do wish their intimacy had been a bit more detailed, just because I think that would’ve added a little extra oomph to their relationship development, but otherwise I really enjoyed this one and I was very refreshed by the Cornish setting, so I’m looking forward to the rest of this series.

Christy Carlyle’s Duke Gone Rogue is a warm-hearted, emotional and spellbinding historical romance that is impossible to resist.
Will Hart, the Duke of Ashmore, is in desperate need of a holiday – or so his two sisters tell him. Ever since he inherited the title from his father, Will has tried his hardest to prove to members of the Ton that he is nothing like his indolent and hedonistic parent. His decision to bring to light the wrong-doings of his father and his many associates has not exactly endeared him to polite society, but Will refuses to be deterred and will not rest until he has put right old wrongs. With his sisters having fixed everything up for him, Will is left with no other choice but to head over to Haven’s Cove in Cornwall where, unbeknownst to him, his whole world will be turned on its head by a tenacious redhead who will steal his heart.
Madeline Ravenwood has got her hands full. With Princess Beatrice about to visit her Cornish village, Maddie is on the local committee where she is doing everything she possibly can to ensure that this royal occasion goes off without a hitch. Maddie is busy putting out fires and soothing fragile egos and barely has enough time for the family business which she has been running single-handedly ever since the passing of her parents. Maddie would love nothing more than to be unshackled from the burdens of duty and responsibility and be free to make her dream of being a garden designer a reality. With so much on her plate, Maddie has neither the time nor the inclination for romance, but could the arrival of a handsome duke change her mind?
Will and Maddie are from completely different worlds. Yet, finding themselves thrust together by fate, they quickly fall head over heels in love with one another. With the odds stacked against them, is a future between Will and Maddie possible? Or is their love simply not meant to be?
Christy Carlyle’s Duke Gone Rogue is an enchanting and enjoyable historical romance readers will be completely dazzled by. Christy Carlyle imbues her story with plenty of warmth, magic and humor and will captivate her readers with a superb romantic tale that tugs at the heartstrings and will make them laugh out loud.
Will and Maddie are two brilliant characters who are beautifully drawn, honorable, intelligent and absolutely perfect for one another. Theirs is an intense and powerful love story readers will be gripped by.
Christy Carlyle strikes gold with her latest swoon-worthy historical romance, Duke Gone Rogue.
This is my first Christy Carlyle but won't be my last. While I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted to I want to see where she goes with the rest of the series. I truly enjoyed both characters, especially our hero who was a bit starchy but when he lets go, he LETS GO and I loved it. I liked that this book wasn't set in London; it was nice to see HR take place outside of the ton and London and see how more "normal" people lived.
Inheriting the Dukedom after his pleasure-seeking father died, Will is determined to be nothing like him. He becomes a too-proper, grouchy, stick-in-the-mud whom no one wants to be around. His sisters send him to Cornwall to visit a run down property so he won't ruin a party. Maddie is running her parents nursery in Cornwall after their deaths. The town is preparing for the royal visit of Princess Beatrice. That's about it. A very slow-moving and gentle read.

My first Christy Carlyle book but definitely not my last! A stick in the mud duke meeting a working class spinster heroine? Yes I definitely need this in my life.
Our hero has spent years trying clean up his father’s scandalous past and be the opposite of him. However this has led him to be… well a bit dull according to his family. He is sent out of London by his sister to a small property where his father used to hold orgies 🙈. But it is in the small town where the property is located that he comes across a spinster business woman and he finally starts to experience joy.
While I love historical romances that take place in the dazzling ton parties I also love small town historical romances where there is an escape from the normal societal rules. The hero and heroine spend a lot of time getting to know each other and building their connection and it was lovely reading their growing relationship.
Grumpy stick-in-the-mud's slow melt! Delicious! A very enjoyable story set in the country side rather than the usual London ballrooms. Wonderful characters. Excellent writing. I recommend this book.
I received an advance reader copy. These comments are my honest opinion voluntarily given.
Will and Maddie's story was fun. He's a serious, grumpy Duke and she is trying desperately to keep her parent's business afloat. This a great book to cuddle up with on a gloomy/rainy day and escape to a seaside town to enjoy the meddling of the local town folk, and a slow burn romance between a sunny heroine and a grumpy hero.
I give this a rating of 4/5 stars.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely adore grouchy dukes who can be forever changed by love and Duke Gone Rogue hits the mark perfectly. This romance will sweep you away and make you feel like you're on holiday too.
One of my favorite parts of reading historical romance is learning all about the various jobs and responsibilities that people had. I loved seeing Maddie run such an interesting gardening venture. This book was not only swoony but fascinating! This is such a sweet romance where the characters really take the time to get to know each other and it's so believable that they would build a strong bond.
In this book, Carlyle takes us from the ballrooms of London to a sea-side village in Cornwall, as Will Hart, the Duke of Ashmore, visits one of his father's abandoned properties at his sister's insistence. He has no intention of taking a real holiday, or falling in love.
Of course, all that changes as he is charmed by the heroine, Madeline Ravenwood. I love how Carlyle develops Madeline through her engagement in her business and community. Despite her unwed status, she is no wallflower on her home turf. While they are instantly drawn to each other, I enjoyed watching the romance develop despite their differences. And the unique setting was a breath of fresh air, and it gives the hero and heroine opportunities to be alone and have adventures that would be less realistic in another setting.
This is just the right sort of pleasure read. At first, it seemed like the book would be about discovering more about the terrible actions of the hero's father, but instead it deals with town gossip, flower shows, and kittens.

This is Christy Carlyle's first book in a new Series, Love on Holiday. And let me tell you that I felt like I was on holiday as I read and enjoyed this book. It's the perfect staycation read in my estimation.
We meet Will, Duke of Ashmore, as he is kicked out of his own space in town thanks to his sister's engagement party. This is odd until you acknowledge that Will has tried so hard to not become his reprobate father, he has gone far the other way, becoming a bit of a grump. Will learned the hard way what happens when the ton knows all your business so he works hard to avoid any sort of potential scandal. This has left him with a reputation he can't kick. So in the guise of thinking it might help him, his sisters send him to the country, away from prying eyes and somewhere he could potentially relax.
It's here that he meets Maddie, a woman who is wholly capable of running her own life - almost to her detriment as she takes on far too much in her community. One job she's tasked with is convincing Will to get his ramshackle manor into shape for the annual flower show which pushes them together and into enjoying each other.
The romance in this story was lovely to see, but I really enjoyed seeing something you don't normally see in a novel, but often see in real life. A lack of doing what you really enjoy. Most people amble through life, doing what's expected, or what they feel is expected. It was a true joy watching them both discover their happiness in this book as they got along with each other and shook off the vestiges of their past.
I enjoyed this book a lot! And I look forward to the second in the series.

This is my first time reading something by Ms. Carlyle, so I didn't have any specific expectations going into it. It is the first installment of the Love on Holiday series, and what a wonderful start it is! Maddie is an intelligent and independent woman, and although she had her parents as an example for a loving marriage, she does not wish to marry herself. She has inherited a gardening business from her father and is very competent at running it, and fears a man would just take over or outright sell it. She also spends her time in committees such as the Royal Visit Committee. William Hart, the Duke of Ashmore, had quite a different example of marriage, what with his father being a perpetual cheat and his many infidelities even leading to his mother's death. Will is nothing like his father, and goes to great pains to prove that to the ton and try to right his father's wrongs, but in doing so, he is seen as being heartless and uncaring. When Will travels to his country estate, he encounters Maddie. Maddie is sent by the Royal Visit Committee to convince Will to clean up and repair his estate and he agrees to do so if she spends time with him exploring Cornwall. The two have an immediate attraction and as they begin to spend more time together, their friendliness develops into more. Will cannot deny his love for her and even though they come from different worlds, he is determined to show her they belong together. Ms Carlyle did a wonderful job of developing the romance and letting it build. Maddie and Will were such a great couple and had such strong chemistry and I enjoyed seeing their romance develop. This is a great start to the series and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment.
Thank you Avon and Harper Voyager and Netgalley for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Honestly, Christy Carlyle could write a phone book and I would read it but I'm really glad that she writes romances! Once again we meet a reluctant Duke and a woman who doesn't have a "typical" job- in this book our heroine owns and runs a gardening business! I love a good class difference trope and the fact that Will (our Duke) falls hard and fast for Madeline (our heroine). If you loved any of the Duke's Den books then you will love this book!
I was LOVING this romance for the first 40% or so. I really liked the beach setting of Cornwall as well as dynamic between Will and Maddie. I mean, who doesn’t love a grumpy duke??
Unfortunately, as this book went along, the less invested/engaged I was in the romance. I started zoning out at times bc I feel like the author didn’t do enough with the chemistry she built up between Maddie and Will early on in the book. This ended up just being okay by the end unfortunately.

Duke Gone Rogue is the first book of the Love on Holiday series by Christy Carlyle. I have to point out that I am not familiar with Ms. Carlyle’s writing as this is my first read of hers. The books hero is Will Hart, the Duke of Ashmore, who is nothing like his scandalous and downright dishonest, father by choice. Unfortunately this makes Will a sourpuss and not so much of a favored catch for societies ladies. When his engagement is broken, his sisters send him off on a vacation to a dilapidated manor in Cornwall. Enters, Madeline Ravenwood who’s passion for flowers and garden design, is just a great as her dedication to being a founding member of the Royal visit committee. However, Madeline has her hands full trying to keep her father’s inherited nursery afloat and being asked to convince a dour Duke to restore a falling down manor is extra work. She agrees to show Will Cornwall if he’ll fix the manor in time for Princess’s visit. As Will and Maddie spend more time together, it becomes quite apparent to the reader and to them that together is definitely the way of things for them.
Will and Maddie’s off the charts chemistry is made apparent from the start which works well for that two week vacation span and the way they connect is so sweet. As the two characters spend time together, they discover that value and respect most of the same things. They come to care and fall for each other based on that connection and it just makes you warm all over watching it happen. We have some sensuous moments, but this book was not what I would call, sexy and steamy. This does not in any way take away from the plot of this historical HEA because the characters gelled so well that I now find myself looking forward to not only reading the other installments, but looking up other novels from this writer. You see how being in Maddie’s presence allows Will to be himself instead of the staid ducal façade that he puts on. We know that he has cultivated this because he wants to do right by the family legacy and the title.
Maddie likewise has dedicated herself to her family’s legacy and is a warm and loving person fully embraced by her community. She understands about making choices and sacrificing for what she values to be the greater good like Will. This means that they are both very aware of their very different social statuses and have to work through deciding if they can go ahead be together, and grab happiness for their own. I found myself with a silly happy smile on my face upon finishing this book and I fear many of you my fellow readers will too. My review was given on the ARC copy received from the Publisher via NetGalley in return for my honest opinion and I’m looking forward to reading the remaining books in the Love on Holiday series, Happy reading!
