In book two, Rachel's best friend Molly falls for the one guy she never saw herself falling for, Rachel's ex-husband Gavin. Molly however doesn't see herself as relationship material since they usually don't work out for her. So she uses her talents to set other people up.
Another cute rom-com by the author.

There's Something About Molly starts out at Molly's best friend's wedding where she has to join forces with Rachel (the BFF)'s ex-husband, Gavin, as they wrangle their collective children in an effort to make sure Rachel has her dream wedding. Rachel and Gavin get along great, knowing that they should never have been married in the first place but felt compelled to do so after an unplanned pregnancy. The only person who still seems to hold a grudge against Gavin is Molly, not being able to forgive him for not being the best husband to her bestie. As Molly and Gavin are thrown together more and more frequently, Molly realizes there is of course more to the story. Sparks fly, but Molly is known for always finding the perfect woman (not her) for any man she dates and she starts to do the same with Gavin. Her low self-esteem is a lot to conquer but Gavin is up for the challenge as they join forces in a local radio contest to matchmake Molly's landlord/surrogate grandmother.

One of my favorite parts of this story was the kids--although Molly is still fairly young, she is a mom and I find it's a bit more relatable to me to see people dealing with their kids WHILE falling in love. This is the second in the Mommy Wars series by Christina Hovland and is out today. I didn't dislike this book, but I also do not think I will be seeking out others in the series. We got Gavin's perspective, but not nearly enough of it. It just didn't really feel very true to me that these people suddenly fell in love and rushed right into a committed relationship. That said, I did love the relationships among the women. Their ability to feel free to call each other out on their BS did feel real. It might have been a better general fiction book than a romance.

Molly is a single mom, dating coach and unlucky in love. Gavin is the ex-husband of Molly's best friend. Molly has been hating him on her friend's behalf for a long time.
This is the second stand-alone story from Christina's Mommy Wars books. While many of the characters are in the previous book, there is no need to have read it. This story is funny, emotional and interesting. The character backstories are entertaining as is their growth and the development of the relationships. I am in love with all of Christina's books. She is an engaging writer able to capture the sparks as well as the challenges of all relationships. I can hardly wait for the next book. I received a free copy of this book but this is my voluntary honest review.

Molly and Gavin made my weekend. This is definitely an adorable romance with some good laugh out loud moments. I think I spent 75% of my reading yelling at this duo (especially Molly) in my head as things progress. Talk about getting readers into their feels!

Molly was a slightly tough character to connect with at first. I liked the authenticity of her inner battles and how she is basically her own worst critic. In hindsight, it gave her a more realistic personality and amplified her persona pros; loyalty, motherhood and sassy sarcasm. Those pros helped me push past her constant effort to try and hate Gavin. I had no clue this novel follows Rachel Out of Office, and after getting to meet Gavin in these pages, I want to go back and read the first novel to get more depth on his faults. I think this would’ve made Molly’s inner mantra more understandable for someone like me coming in mid series. No worries though, this can definitely be read as a standalone and by the end I was all in for Team Molly! Now Gavin…. *fans self*… Gavin was ridiculously, smolderingly adorable! I totally get that he was the one to hate in the first book but man I have got to give props to Hovland for his redemption. She had me wanting my own personal Gavin (yes, I am happily married but shoosh).

Hovland did a lovely job of combining single motherhood/fatherhood, the strength of friendships and self-appreciation into a fun romp through the fake-dating scene. Entangled has me hyped for my upcoming read of April May Fall, also by Hovland. Now that I’ve got my feet wet with her writing style I am absolutely looking forward to more! If you’re looking for a fun romcom to cozy up to, I recommend jumping on board with this one!

Thank you, Entangled Publishing, for the gifted digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own. True rating 3.5/5.

I was shocked when I saw that this book was about Gavin. He wasn't the bad guy in Rachel's novel, but I was not prepared. He really came through in this book, though. He was thoughtful, funny, and sweet. I was very happy for him to get his HEA.
Molly was a hilarious best friend in the first book, but we got a deeper look into her life in this book. Lots of women have lots of kinds of insecurities, but Molly's has a very unique face. Fortunately, she has a sparkling sense of humor. That and her friends help her through to her HEA.

Overall I did enjoy There's Something About Molly. There were some really funny moments, like the Skittle scene which was fantastic! Those funny moments where what got me through the book. After having read Rachel's book I was worried I wouldn't warm up to Gavin because dating your best friends ex is a little on the yucky side for me but I actually really liked Gavin. He really matured and had great banter with Molly. I liked Molly up until the Cassidy part then she got annoying. Gavin handled it wonderfully but Molly just got insecure and refused to do anything to make herself happy. It did rebound towards the end and Molly did redeem herself but it had already left a bad taste in my mouth at that point so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. The writing was great and the story idea was good. Charlie and Agnes were a fun addition. Definitely give this one a try because there is lots to enjoy about it and I did have a good time reading it.

"She was in a relationship of serious inconvenience with her [best friend's] ex-husband-slash-now-super-complicated-brother-in-law."

Charming, witty, humorous, genuine and a little spicy There's Something About Molly has a little something for everyone.

I think this series would be a big hit for anyone in charge of raising little humans. And while I cannot relate to the mom-wisdom, I can certainly relate to Molly. Sacrificing your own happiness for others, putting yourself last, I think a lot of us can relate to that mom or not.

This was a great journey for Molly and Gavin and while There's Something About Molly can stand-alone, I think readers would get the full effect from reading Rachel, Out of Office first.

The epilogue was my favorite! Looking forward to see what happens next in April May Fall.

Author Christina Hovland’s latest novel, There’s Something About Molly, is a hilarious addition to her series of loosely-tied, standalone romantic comedies. Each book in this series features moms—some are single, some are married, and all are working hard to juggle family, home, and work. Ms. Hovland reflects back the lives of most of her readers, adds humor and a splash of romance for relatable, realistic characters and stories.

Molly is a relationship coach. She enters a matchmaking competition not knowing that to win she will need a boyfriend, and that sets up the premise for this fake-boyfriend romance trope. A dating coach who is single isn’t all that odd in the world of romantic fiction, but some backstory on her reticence to being in a relationship would have added a little depth to this otherwise delightful story. It was satisfying to see the character growth throughout the story arc. Fake boyfriend, Gavin, is a recycled secondary character from a prior book. In There’s Something About Molly, Gavin battles the reputation he created and tries to show friends, family and Molly that he is redeemable. The secondary characters add a lot to this story in terms of humor and relationship support.

Molly and Gavin’s journey is a fun, flirty read about the bumpy road to a HEA. The interactions with Molly’s children were funny, and Molly and Gavin’s relationship felt organic in its growth. I truly enjoy how author Hovland can turn a realistic romance story into a light, breezy romantic comedy.

Another great read from Christina Hovland.

This is the second book in the 'Mommy Wars' series and follows on from Rachel's story. While it is a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading 'Rachel, Out Of Office' first, because there are a lot of recurring characters which add depth to both the story, and the humour - not least when you see how Rachel's ex-husband, Gavin, and her best friend Molly interact in the first book.

Molly is a self-sabotaging dating guru. Basically, she's great at fixing everyone else up - quite often with her own first dates! But when it comes to the growing attraction between herself and her best friend's ex-husband, Gavin, she finds herself doubting she could ever be perfect for him. Problem is, everyone else knows she's wrong. Now, if only she is willing to let down her barriers and accept love...

There are some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments when her nearest and dearest can literally see her trying to push Gavin away and are telling her to stop. And, if anything, the second book in the series is even funnier than the first. I just about lost it reading the scene in the cinema with the Skittles! I assumed the Skittles parenting lesson was going to involve wayyyy too many e-numbers, especially on a school night (if my own parenting experience was anything to go by) but no. The actual events were even more hilarious.

The banter between the three young boys is also SO authentic, and the portrayal of parents just trying to do the best for their children while simultaneously on the verge of a breakdown (particularly when said parents are single) feels realistic, and relatable.

A wonderful addition to the series.

3.8⭐️

I really enjoyed parts of this book…I love the group of friends. Gavin is killer. Imaginary emotional support cat? Weird. Awesome.

The first part of the book I really felt like I got how she felt and her inner monologue. But for a lot of the middle I was like. Okay I get it, you still have these issues and doubts, cool cool. But then ending resolutions were quality so.

Every good girl friend knows you never fish in your bestie’s pond, but what happens when one of her fish jumps into your boat? Angst-y and emotional. Silly, sweet, and steamy, this book had a little bit of everything. I am so excited to know my wish came true and we get to come back to this ensemble of characters for more outrageous stories and outlandish shenanigans. Because, really, this story wouldn’t be what it was without the supporting cast pushing Gavin to step up and be his best self and calling Molly on her self-delusional baggage. The message I resonated most with in this story is that “martyr” isn’t a good look on anyone, no matter how much more important you think someone else’s happiness is over your own. And also, that quiet children on their best behavior means that something unfortunate has just happened, or is about to. I realize that I’ve only just finished this book, but I already can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen next for this group of fabulous women.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author through NetGalley.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

I love fake dating tropes, I really do, and so this was an easy decision to read when the opportunity arose. I also love characters that have history in their lives when it is a romance book geared towards adults as opposed to YA/NA - meaning that the characters are in their 30s+, and go into these situations with the perspective more appropriate for their age. This book had some major pros and some major cons in my mind, so with all things being equal it was a solid middle of the road book for me. There is another book in this universe, all standalones, that is coming out soon and I will be reading that one too, and maybe it will be a bit better for me, since my major issue with this book was with the female lead.

Pros: Gavin was amazing. He showed character growth and was a male lead you wanted to root for. Molly's friend group was super supportive, each with their own traits but working together they were a great support system for Molly. All the kids in this book were cute and utilized well for the plot moving forward. The fake dating scenario was cute, as was the general feel of the book.

Cons: Molly just in general. I really had a very hard time liking her, I found her to be incredibly bull headed and that she just refused to change. I am sure that there are real people like her, but to me it seemed unrealistic to the point it kept pulling me out of the book the amount of stubbornness she was expressing. If Molly was maybe a little more - something - I probably would like this book a lot more.

Overall, it wasn't bad, but it was definitely not my favorite Entangled romance I have read recently. I am excited to read the next one in the universe though since it is about one of Molly's friends and I do like her friends a lot.

This is my first time reading a book by this author. I was not disappointed! In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I adored this book. I absolutely adored the hero, Gavin. Sometimes Molly and her resistance bothered me a little bit but that's what made the ending even better. I thought the writing was solid with good character development. It was also funny with witty dialogue. I can't wait to read more by this author. Huge thank you to Entangled publishing and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

This book had me laughing but at the same time was so real and relatable (well aside from the dating the best friend’s ex and the best friend is married to the ex’s brother part 😂). I really felt like not only was this a romance, it was also about Molly finding herself with the help of a great group of mom friends.

Full disclosure, I did not read the previous book so maybe that’s why I liked Gavin so much from the get go, so while I appreciate Molly’s loyalty to her friend, I felt like she was too hard on Gavin. I loved seeing Gavin continue to redeem himself until Molly realized how great he was. Molly is fiercely independent and the life of the party, but deep down she has some insecurities that really made me sad, so I was so glad that she eventually lets Gavin in and they get their HEA. Their banter and innuendo game was really on point!

I wasn’t too sure about reading a best friend’s ex story, but it worked and I didn’t feel like it was too weird given the situation. It’s also an enemies to lovers, fake relationship, single parents, slow burn with a little steam. Add in some crazy things the kids get up to in this book and it made for the perfect mix!

There's something about Molly was ok. It was a light hearted read though it was hard to get into at first.

I liked Gavin's character and Molly's friends though I wasn't a fan of the whole fake dating for social media viewers to win the contest.

This was just a three star rating. This review will be posted on blog soon this weekend or so.

Gavin is her best friend’s ex husband, who also needs a fake relationship to stop his mother from setting him up on dates. 5 STARS
Written in third person from an alternating dual POV, this is book two in the Mommy Wars series and is a stand alone ending with a HEA.
I liked Gavin more and more as I read the book. He has come so far since his appearance in Rachel Out of Office. I loved seeing him step up and parent his twins. I love the friendship and co-parent relationship he shares with his ex. I appreciated that he was trying to have a relationship fast that his mother was making very difficult. Molly is a survivor who is an excellent mom and businesswoman. Unfortunately, she has taken some knocks along the way, and she keeps getting back up. I love that she feels a little strange when she begins to not hate Gavin. I loved the heat and emotion between them. I love how he helps her. I felt like I really understood her.
The book presents well-developed characters with vulnerabilities and flaws. I love how they have self-doubts and I love the friends that support them. There are complicated relationship dynamics involved, yet the story is so good that they become almost irrelevant. I really couldn’t put this down. I loved it so much! I really cannot recommend this enough.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
