Thank you to NetGalley and C, Daley for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

As a long time sufferer from depression this book seemed more for those studying or learning about depression more than assisting someone who suffers. I will keep this book in mind to recommend to someone newly suffering from depression. I did gain a good amount of insight with this book and I am glad to have read it.

I highly discourage all from reading this, though I hate stating this as this is such a tough topic, and this manuscript has such promise.

Bottom line, as a professional in the medical field, with great personal interest in depression, I fear for many readers, this book may actually worsen symptoms and confuse the issues at hand more.

I feel this book could use significant editing as some of the sentence structures, etc clearly need to be reworked. I also have to question the author's credentials, what background does he or she have? I highly recommend someone with better medical or psychological background review this manuscript prior to true publication to ensure accuracy of data presented.

Overall, in my opinion, this book suffers from an identity dilemma - is this a reference and discussion of depression? Or a self help? I feel it seems to hit elements of both, but leaves significant areas unsaid that need to be discussed to complete the story.

A couple of quotes and examples to discuss with concerns noted:

-"if you consider the fact that many people suffering from depression prefer death instead of dealing with the emotional rollercoaster. Furthermore, the fact that an overwhelming number of people who commit suicide are individuals with depression and mental illness illustrate the need to discuss the management and treatment of the disorder"
-I think the discussion of suicide here is completely inappropriate and out of context. I think it's important to be gentle with this topic. My fear is this may actually plant the seed of suicide to depressed readers looking for help, who may not have had those thoughts previously, and who may not know how to deal with them.

-[referring to antidepressants] --> "these medications may likely induce suicidal thoughts or actions in some teen and young adults within the first few weeks of treatment"
-again, as a medical professional, this is completely false, and rather dangerous in my opinion, as it may discourage patients from starting medications when they may very well help.

-"People suffering from depression do not care about anything"
-extremely false claim - people with depression care a lot, which is often a factor for why they feel the way they do.

Again, as a reader, I am sure the author and publisher had the best of intentions and wish no maleficence. However, I can not in good conscious give a good rating or recommend this book to potential readers.

Please feel free to contact me personally with any questions or concerns.
