This author has become one of my favs and this book just showed me more of why! She’s unique and amazing in the style she writes in, perfects the character! Kept me up way too late, needing to finish this twisty, chilling, and intriguing tale! Highly, highly recommend! A one click author for me!

I absolutely adore Miranda Smith and this book been no different. I’d even go as far as saying that this is my favourite so far.

This book has made my heart pound and kept me on the edge of my seat from very early on.

Smith writes in a way that you feel as though you are there with the characters in the pages.

This moves at the perfect pace and I have been completely unable to predict how this was going to play out.

Miranda Smith is a queen of psychological thrillers and an author who never fails to disappoint. This is a definite must read.

This is my first by Miranda Smith and I will certainly be looking for other titles by her in the future! The beginning/middle was a bit slow and drawn out, but the last few chapters made up for the suspense I was expecting!

Great book! Kept me guessing and had so many twists and turns. At the end, the author asks if you gasped out loud at the revelations? Heck yes! Would totally recommend this book! Must read!!!

Kate is trying to recover from a traumatic experience with old boyfriend Paul. Paul is getting out of jail, so Kate’s husband has booked a surprise vacation for them. But why does Kate sense danger again? Has Paul found her? Very suspenseful and well plotted out.

This book was terrifying in the sense that you really cannot trust those closest to you at times. When a woman/man is murdered the first person they look to is the spouse, when a child is kidnapped they question immediate family members first & I won’t even mention the statistics for rape but if I did.. 3 out of 4 cases, the perpetrator is someone the victim knew.

In His Loving Wife, we meet Kate a seemingly happy and married woman with two children whose life kind of derailed after an unplanned pregnancy shortly after graduating from college. With plans to be a writer, Kate must now reevaluate her life and when we readers meet her, she’s a community college professor seemingly fine with her life. Not necessarily fulfilled with her life but just going about things. We also meet Andrew, a man who seemed like he lucked out in life when marrying Kate.

When we meet this married couple, they have just gone through a horrible home invasion that left them reeling especially with the knowledge that the man who entered their home was Kate’s ex boyfriend. With flashbacks between past and present, we learn just what happened after the home invasion and just how essentially this family started unraveling from that moment.

So what does a family do when they’re trying to sort of reunite? Go on vacation of course. But from the very beginning of this vacation which Andrew extends for whatever reason… as a reader, I couldn’t help but feel trust issues towards Andrew. In every single moment, Andrew comes off in a bad manner.. when their child almost dies it is Kate who jumps to attention while Andrew does nothing, when the home invasion occurred again it was Kate who jumped into action. For all intents and purposes, Andrew seems passive and submissive so by the time the ending comes around you can’t help but feel shocked by the concluding events.

This psychological thriller is as thrilling as it gets and trust me when I say, by the time you get to the end? You will not believe what you are reading.

This book was a slow burn at first but ramped up and got very suspenseful. Most of the book alternates between modern-day and a home invasion many months ago.

This book is worthy of 4 stars because I like how Miranda Smith wrote the main character, Kate. I've read lots of domestic thrillers where the primary female character experiences trauma and/or is surrounded by sinister characters and it's just constant gaslighting. Or the female character is incredibly passive. Does this happen in real life? Sure! But can we give the character other personality traits beyond just being passive/broken?

Kate felt as real as a domestic thriller character can get. She's navigating a traumatic situation but still manages to have some depth.

His Loving Wife by Miranda Smith is a fast-paced read that I could not put down. I have previously enjoyed this author's work, and this latest was no exception. Character-driven and full of intrigue, I was completely gripped from the very start.

Told from an alternating timeline of 'then' and 'now', we learn of the events that have led Kate, Andrew, and their two children to seek a reprieve at a secluded beach location. Still coming to terms with the aftermath of a home invasion, the family is taking some time to heal and reconnect. But Kate is still uneasy over her encounter with the perpetrator, and Andrew is not fulfilling his parental duties in a way that is conducive to re-establishing trust and moving forward. A storm is brewing, and a family's very survival may be at stake.

This is an engaging and entertaining read that will keep you guessing, and gasping, until the final page.

What a book! Miranda is a queen of this genre. Once again, she ensures that the reader is hooked and gripped from the very beginning by drawing us into a dangerous and unexpected situation. However, there’s more to this story than you first think…

The complex timeline ensures that elements of the plot are slowly revealed and this plays with the psychology of the reader as well as digging into the psychology of the characters, especially Kate. There are so many unanswered questions for much of the book, and the fact that there is so little relevant communication between Kate and Andrew only add to the tension and build towards an exciting and unpredictable conclusion.

This has been another book by this author that I found extremely difficult to put down. It is clever, original and the tension is palpable whilst the danger, for the most part, lurks beneath the surface. It has definitely been and intense and exciting reading experience. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This book was absolutely amazing. I could have finished it in one sitting if it weren’t for adult responsibilities! The characters were so well developed and Kate was someone you could really connect with. The twists and turns just kept coming!

I love psychological thrillers. This one had me reading well into the night. With dual timelines (then and now) and short chapters, I really struggled to put this one down. The story starts off slower in the first half but then it ramps up full speed. Just when I thought I had it all figured out too, the twists started coming and wow, that ending! Definitely a thriller you want to have on your tbr this year!

Trying to heal from the trauma of a home invasion a year ago, Kate and Andrew decide to take a family vacation with their children. Knowing the person that did it, Paul, is someone Kate knows, the weight of the guilt bears down on her which eventually carries over to their marriage. Hoping for quality family time away from their home, Kate is shocked as she sees a man resembling Paul following her and hiding in the shadows. With Andrew dealing with his own issues from the home invasion and dismissing her claims of seeing Paul, Kate feels more alone than ever and is determined to protect her children from the madman. But what Kate doesn't know is that person is a lot closer to her than she realizes.

Though it was a bit slow-paced for me I enjoyed this book, and even if I guessed some parts of what was to happen, the ending was not what I expected. It was surprising to see the actions of these characters as the story is told between past and present, which is necessary to see how and why the characters are the way they are after the home invasion. Overall a good read and I look forward to reading more of this author's books.

I love psychological thrillers and will try to read as much as I possibly can from that genre.

This was a page turner and kept me engaged until the end with all its twists and turns.

The tension and suspense was done amazingly well.

A tragedy happens to the Brooks family that rocks them. #HisLovingWife gives the details at the time it happens with the months following and alternates with the current time.
I thought this was going to be a simple story with some sort of twist. However, it turned out to be something much more sinister. Highly recommend for the jaw-dropping flip that Miranda Smith Author delivers!

I love it when a book starts with a scene that draws me in and makes me wonder where the rest of the story is going to go. This one absolutely succeeds in this regard.
After a terrifying event, the reader is immediately taken to a family vacation nearly a year after the initial incident. It’s apparent from the very start that the family is struggling to heal – but just how bad it has gotten remains unseen.
The rest of the book jumps between current time (usually Kate, sometimes Andrew) on the vacation and various points over the past year. In other words, there is a lot of switching perspectives.
It sounds like that might make it confusing, but it doesn’t. It’s always very clear where the reader is in the narrative. I actually liked this method, because it felt like there was an outline of the big picture and the author was filling in the areas with color, building to the overall view.
The tension also grows as Kate not only relives the incident and worries about her family’s safety, but as she realizes that things are happening that are beyond her control – and that might be an even more imminent danger than what she is worrying about.
I will openly admit that I thought the story was going in a plausible direction and would have been happy with it had it turned out the way I thought it was going to.
However, and I need to choose my words carefully here, the author throws in a gigantic twist that I did NOT see coming. Once the thread on that storyline is pulled, the whole thing unravels and reforms into a gonzo, what-the-heck-just-happened crazy ride.
It was a great way to turn something good into something memorable and unique. I don’t think I’ve read a story with this particular “crime” as a focus in a very long time.
And no, I’m not going to say what it is or what the other book was, because that would give it away.
I do want to be clear. The author didn’t do this in a way that made it implausible. There was suspicious behavior by characters that could have been chalked up to coping with the incident from the beginning.
But instead, the behavior was actually something much worse. It actually gave insight to the psyche of one of the characters and illustrated how events throughout one’s life could permanently damage confidence…and cause a misplaced sense of what is right or wrong.
I’m starting to say too much.
There were a few times that Kate irritated me because it seemed as if she should have been more aware. But then I remembered that she was still dealing with the incident from the beginning and her own dose of guilt (which was being played upon), so I was able to get over it.
I really enjoyed this book, especially the twist, and I definitely recommend it.

I'd probably give this 3.5 stars if I could. I was definitely hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down but at the same time it was a little slow. I enjoyed the main character, Kate, and related to her as a mom wanting to protect her family. I can't say too much with out giving it away but the twist at the end just didn't do it for me. It was unexpected, but I didn't like it. If you live slow burn thrillers and family drama then definitely check this out.
