Thank you NetGalley, Tilly Tennant and Bookouture for the copy of My Best Friend’s Wedding. This is my personal review.
I wanted to like this book so much. The description was one that sounded fun and would put a smile on my face as I read it, but it fell short of my expectations.
I could not connect with anyone in this book. The writing was good, but the book left my mind wondering why things were happening to them all.
I have loved other books by Tilly Tennant but this was not one of my favorites.
Where do I even start with our leading lady?! Poor Libby goes through so much in a short about of time. If it wasn’t for her Grandmother and Willow, her best friend, she would be lost and probably still broken. I really enjoyed Willow’s wedding and the events that took place but still needed something else. Maybe more of a connection between Libby and Noah or not so much of Rufus.
Really cute book now that the christmas holidays are coming up! It did feel a little bit flat for me, specially towards the end - I think that it has to do with the way the plot moved really quickly at the beginning - but i was really invested, which I think is the hardest thing to do when writing a book. Would really like to read another Tilly Tennant book at some point!
Libby is at her best friends wedding, and dread her ex turning up. Unfortunately he does turn up, but all Libby can think about is Noah, a friend of the groom.
Stuck at the wedding venue in a snow storm, there are lies and secrets, so who will Libby believe?
This was an enjoyable read.
I loved Noah and Libby's story. It was written very well.
The story kept me entertained the whole way through.
It was a quick, easy and fun read which will make you smile while your reading.
Highly recommend
It’s an ok book. Slow burner but if you love a bit of romance at Christmas time then this book is for you.
This book is exactly what I needed right now, it made me laugh, smile and warmed my heart, it is perfect for Christmas, it is short, light, sweet and left me with a smile. Definitely a must read if you like christmas romances and slow burn
Libby is a bridesmaid in her best friend’s wedding. It’s Christmas Eve and the snow is falling. She really wanted to look her best in her fuchsia dress, because it’s the first time she will be seeing her ex Rufus. She was supposed to marry Rufus, except that he left her alone at the alter. Libby does everything she possibly can to avoid Rufus. But as the snow continues to fall, the guests can’t leave and find themselves to be snowed in at Lovage Hall. Libby is charmed by Noah, a guest at the wedding. The next morning, the guest are finally able to leave because the snow has begin to melt. Libby soon discovers the truth about Noah, and Rufus reveals why he ended their relationship. Rufus begs Libby to give him another chance, but will she? This light heart Christmas read was an absolute delightful escape. I found myself laughing out loud and crying at the same time. I really liked the plot twist and turns of this story, and the characters were enjoyable.
Thank you Tilly Tennant for such a wonderful and enjoyable read. This entertaining and exciting story, is a great start to the holidays. It is a fantastic must read and I recommend this book.
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'My Best Friend's Wedding' by Tilly Tennant.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Tilly Tennant, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 8th October 2021.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The Hotel At Honeymoon Station' which I highly recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Shari Low and Jenny Colgan.' I am a huge fan of Jenny Colgan and Jill Mansell so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Tilly and if this is half as good as 'The Hotel At Honeymoon Station' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 18 chapters. The chapters medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧 The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonist being Libby. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
'My Best Friend's Wedding ' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Tilly discusses/includes loss of a child.
This book is very well written with vivid descriptions that helps the reader see the snow falling and shiver during the snowball fight. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly. This book is a slow burner which does speed up a bit at about 75%. It's filled with love, lies, snow, secrets and friendship. I really liked Libby up until the point where she started making excuses and blaming herself for Rufus's disgusting actions. Personally I have no idea how she managed to speak to either Rufus or her so called cousin Kylie again. I certainly could not be as forgiving!!! This book is a sweet rom com which will have you feeling warm and fuzzy inside at times and yet screaming and shouting at certain people at other times. The atmosphere was gorgeous and I loved the setting. It made this book a perfect fire place read and it definitely gave off a festive vibe.
Overall a lovely rom com that is perfect to read curled up in front of the fire.
Genres covered in this novel include Romance Novel, Domestic Fiction, Contemporary Romance and Holiday Fiction amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Jill Mansel and Jenny Colgan
300 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 4 /5 (I Liked it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

A book about a wedding set at Christmas time. Sounded like the perfect read for me as I love weddings and I love Christmas. This was a lovely story but did fall a bit flat for me towards the end. The build up was all good. The setting was beautiful and really well described. The dialogue was interesting between the characters. I liked the main character of Libby and her little love triangle between Rufus and Noah was great. Rufus is definitely not my favourite character, what he said to Libby to try and win her back was so disgusting and dishonest! The ending was the part I wasn't overly enamoured with. It seemed to end very abruptly and went from one extreme to the other very quickly.
Overall a pleasant rom com with nice Christmassy vibes.
Everyone who knows me will tell you I’m a Grinch when it comes to holiday festivities any earlier than December 1st, but I’m a sucker for a good Hallmark movie. This story had all the makings of a cute Christmas romance to air during a countdown to Christmas movie marathon.
The first chapter had me in my feels, more specifically shock. You learn immediately of the terrible hand the main character, Libby, is dealt and I wanted nothing more than for her unbridled happiness by the end - I can’t say that I’m 100% satisfied with the ending but I can confidently say Libby is in a better please than at the beginning.
The characters introduced in this story felt very real and likeable. I could vividly imagine myself at this wedding, gin and tonic in hand.
The author is English so as a Canadian reader there was a slight learning curve with some of the expressions. Eventually my inner narrator voice was having the conversations in English accents in my head — anyone else do this?
That being said, it was a little too Christmas-y for me in October (but I understand ARCs need to be read in advance of the season) but it will make for a delightful December read.
There were parts of this book that I loved but so many parts that I could not get behind. I loved that it was set around a wedding and Christmas, I think that added to the romantic feel of the book, but I think there could have been a few more settings and scenes that showed what was being said in the narration. I think that it took too much time getting to the wedding and showing how Libby was so afraid of her ex being at the wedding. I love how she can rely on Willow, but she should not be continually complaining about her ex being there when he was friends with the groom. I think the relationship between Libby and Noah is cute, I just wish we had more time to see it unfold and learn more about them as a couple. I do think Libby moves on too fast, but I can see where she is coming from.
When I chose to read My Best Friend's Wedding by Tilly Tennant, I truly thought it would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The majority of the book takes place over two days where Libby is bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding (hence the title). She has just ended a relationship and her ex has come back to bother her. She has an instant connection with one of the wedding guests and everyone gets snowed in at the wedding venue. The story just moved so slow for me and I did a lot of skimming because I just wanted to get on with it. I didn't really connect with the characters at all and the writing didn't draw me in. I truly wanted to like this and I'm sure that just because I didn't doesn't mean that others will feel the same.
My sincere thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it.
The action in the book mainly takes place over a 3 day period of time, Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. The book was a little slow at times as there was a lot of detail, mainly Libby's thoughts and feelings.
I liked Noah, although he did seem a little too good to be true. Rufus was a truly awful person. Libby was nice, although she could be a little annoying at times. I still wanted her to have a HEA though, as she had been through a lot, and I think that she deserved to have some happiness.
Overall I did enjoy reading this book, it was fun and entertaining.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
Libby manages the local tailors in the village she grew up in the north of England. Her fiancé left her when she needed him most & now she’s attending her best friends wedding with the hope she can avoid her ex.
👰🏻🤵🏻♂️
This is a light Christmas romance, although unfortunately I found the characters unlikable & shallow. If my best friends fiancé cheated on her I’d have no qualms telling him he’s not invited to my wedding. The Libby - Rufus breakup drags on throughout the book & the big secret was uncomfortable in how it continued. The end was quite abrupt & hypocritical to the rest of the story. Sorry this one just wasn’t for me
This is a short review because this one fell a little flat for me. I was so looking forward to this one, but I was left pretty underwhelmed.
It's saving grace was there were a few moments that I was actually invested. And, the writing was good.
This one just bored me a bit. I won't give up on Tilly Tennant. This may have just been a one-miss for me.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book! My review will be live at the link given on October 14, 2021.
My Best Friend’s Wedding was a cute feel-good romance. As it was my first novel by Tilly Tennant, I did not know what to expect. It was an adorable read with a holiday feel as the wedding takes place near Christmas in a lovely snowy backdrop. The story follows Libby, a manager for a local tailoring shop. She is very excited to marry the man of her dreams, Rufus, but, unfortunately, it will not be a happily ever after. Instead, Rufus has been cheating on Libby with her cousin, Kylie. With all this devastation around her, Libby must pull herself together to be a bridesmaid for her best friend since childhood.
The story takes place at the best friend, Willow’s, wedding to her fiancé, Tomas. Libby is excited to make Willow’s day as perfect as possible and prays that Rufus, who was an invited guest, will stay away knowing that Libby is there. While at the wedding, she meets Noah, a friend of Tomas and is visiting from California. The two are attracted to each other and begin to get to know each other at the wedding and reception. While Noah seems interested in Libby, he seems to be holding back. Things become more complicated for Libby when Rufus shows up and wants to reconcile. Libby must now work through her feelings to see what she wants from either man and if things could work out between them.
For me, Libby was both likable and unlikable as a character. She was likable for the most part, but it was difficult to get over her obsession with Rufus. While it was understandable to be around the man that broke your heart, it felt a little overboard with self-pity as it seemed repetitive. Noah is a sweet character and his personality worked great with Libby’s. The snowstorm that keeps the characters together was a unique device to create a locked door-style romance; however, it did feel slow in some moments as it is a full-length story over the course of a few days. The characters, though, were enjoyable and the story was a nice easy read. Overall, the secret revealed about Noah was a deal-breaker for me, unfortunately. As much as I wanted to love the story, I just could not connect with this element. Without this part, for me, the story would have worked better; however, every reader is different, so each should give it a try to see how they feel.
**I give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Bookouture, for the opportunity to read this enjoyable novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**
Libby is still smarting from breaking up with her fiancé when she serves as bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding. There, she meets Noah. Will it be true love this time?
If you like quiet, low-angst, slice-of-life books, this one might be for you.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Left me flat I'm afraid which is a shame as I've enjoyed other books by this author, it was really dragged out over the course of a wedding which lasted an extra day but then the ending was so abrupt with no real conclusion. The characters were not particularly likeable and the whole book just seemed a bit cobbled together
My Best Friend's Wedding - Tilly Tennant
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture and I am leaving this review voluntarily
As chief bridesmaid, Libby knows she should be having the time of her life at her best friend’s snowy Christmas Eve wedding. But she’s at the mercy of three bossy little flower girls and she’s not looking her best in an enormous fuchsia dress. Which is a shame, as it is the first time she’s going to see her ex Rufus. The man she was supposed to marry. The man who left her alone at the altar…
As the dancing begins, and Libby does her best to avoid her ex, the snow outside falls faster and faster, making it impossible for the guests to leave. Snowed in at Lovage Hall, Libby is charmed by American Noah with his dark cropped hair and dimpled cheeks, and the two of them share their dreams and a very passionate kiss.
This book has all of the key features that you would expect in a Hallmark Christmas film. It is short and sweet and the entire storyline takes place in less than a week so it is very easy to follow. If you enjoy a slow romance then this is the book for you.
One of my disappointments with this book is the length - I feel like it could have easily run into the New Year so we could see more of Libby and Noah.
