A heartache, a wedding and chance of new live for Libby. A lovely feel good romance. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
I thought the premise sounded promising and this is a nice and sweet story and the writing style I enjoyed. A perfect Christmas read!
I think it fell a little short for me though and was pretty slow paced. I so wanted to like the character of Libby but couldn’t seem to get invested in her as I read.
If you enjoy a bit of Christmas romance then this is one for you.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was good and gave off some strong feels but I would have preferred to hear more about Noah and less about the breakup. It got quite repetitive in the end. First time trying this author, would definitely read her again.
This was mushy gushy and gave me all the romance feels!
Not a story line that was totally breathtaking or original, but one that was so sweet and feel good!
This book was ok not the best by Tilly Tennet, but it was an easy christmas book to read and i will read more by Tilly.
This is a easy going read, set at Christmas, it is the story of Libby. The setting is a Christmas wedding and the 3 days that happen afterwards. I'll be honest, I'm sat here thinking about what to write about it and there isn't a great deal to say. Libby has broken up with her boyfriend and is about to be chief bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding. Things don't go to plan and she ends up meeting the mysterious Noah. You know from the minute they meet that he is the one but there are others things standing in the way.
I found the book concentrated too much on the break up with her boyfriend Rufus rather than the new arrival of Noah. It is lovely to read about the wedding especially being set at Christmas and there are some humorous parts in the book. I just feel that it ended too abruptly but that is just my opinion, others may disagree.
It is definitely worth a read especially if you want to feel a bit Christmassy!
Thank you to Tilly Tennant, Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC in exchange for an honest review
This book had all the makings for a Hallmark movie. It was short and sweet and exactly what you'd expect from a rom-com. The entire story takes place over the span of three days, and while I was invested in Noah and Libby's relationship, I felt like there was so much more dramatic potential that wasn't seized. I'm also a sucker for physical affection and it was missing for almost the entirety of the book. I prefer new adult books, but if you enjoy PG romance, this is the book for you.
Libby was supposed to marry her boyfriend, Rufus, when she discovers that he is having an affair with her cousin. Six months later, now single, Libby is a bridesmaid in her best friend’s Christmas Eve wedding. It’s also the first time she sees Rufus since their break-up. How will she handle her reunion with Rufus when the snow gets in the way? And what if her encounter with a friend of the groom changes things?
I must admit, this novel is well written and Tilly Tennant has a real talent for description. However, I couldn’t get into the story. Libby just goes on and on about the same things to the point that I didn’t care for her. Sometimes I just wanted to remind her that sometimes it’s good to be open to dialogue. Also, the whole situation around the big ‘secret’ of the book becomes ridiculous as the same events keep repeating themselves.
I also had a hard time with the ending of the book, which I didn’t feel was in keeping with what Libby has been thinking all along.
I rarely say this about a book, but I was sometimes bored while reading it.
I give it 2/5.
This book may interest you if you are a fan of Christmas romance, but it was not for me.
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Tilly Tennant for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A light hearted and easy read. A Christmas wedding which means being stuck in. Libby meets a handsome stranger who is hiding a secret.
Really enjoyed getting to know Libby's character.
Wanted to find out more about what happened after the wedding to Libby.
This was a quick, easy read, with many cute parts. Overall I thought the book was ok. Very, very slow burn, but a lot of the moments with Libby and Noah were cute. I especially loved the interaction with the “Trio of Torment” and Noah. He seemed genuine and sweet with them.
There were a few things with the book that made me rate it 3 stars. I was so over Libby whining and fretting about Rufus. Yes, he did her dirty by cheating with her cousin, but I was so over reading about her obsessing over it. And then, in the end, it felt like she essentially did what she was condemning him for…cheating(as the other woman). Noah may have been unhappy in his marriage, and (possibly??) on the verge of divorce, but at the end of the day he was still married.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest opinion
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts with a chapter setting the scene for Libby, describing events which make her obsessive character (manages everything and everyone) become less trusting of others, to the point of selfishness. I found her self-absorbed, especially when she considered asking Willow (the bride) to contact Rufus and tell him he was not invited to the wedding. When he turned up it seemed that she mentally permitted him to begin to spoil her day, instead of just ignoring him - it seemed to me that this was written for young adult readers of a different age and generation to me, particularly in view of the language used and the reference to a church wedding which lacks any insight to religious significance. Whilst it seemed that everyone was trying to communicate a fact about Noah, I had guessed what this was long before Libby was told.
However, my overall impression changed around halfway through the book, when Libby began to recognise that she may have been dismissive of Rufus' feelings. The interactions between Libby and the little bridesmaids were delightful, and the setting for the wedding and the weather problems made for a lovely Christmassy feel. There were surprised and twists right to the end of the novel, and it is well worth the read.
This was a light read and overall it’s an ‘ok’ book but my kind of books need to have more excitement. Everything happens in the same place, nothing really exciting happens during the story. Despite this, it is a sweet Christmas and love story. It’s not a book I would buy for myself. I found it a bit plain, with little substance. Although I can admit it’s a sweet and light read for Christmas time for most romcom readers.
WHAT I LIKED:
- The immediate friendship between Libby and Noah was very sweet. They really connected and it was very entertaining to see the immediate connection between them.
- The idea of the wedding taking place right before Christmas was a very cute concept.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
- Everything happens in the same set. I can understand that’s the point of the story but it turned things a bit boring to me.
- The way Libby keeps nagging the bride about Rufus being at the wedding really annoyed me.
SPOILER BELOW:
- Hated how Libby handled the cheating situation. She didn’t forgive Rufus and her cousin for cheating on her but at the end of the book she chooses to stay with Noah, even after she discovers he’s actually married (whether it is a happy marriage or not or if he would get a divorce or not it’s not the point, the point is, Noah cheated on his wife with her and she stayed with him despite all that). Hated how she “didn’t mind” because she would gain for this situation.
This novel is a sweet romance set in a countryside inn where the guests are snowed in during a wedding reception. The main characters are appealing and the course of their romance has the requisite obstacles--the guy is hiding something that prevents him from committing to the girl, and the girl's ex, who turns up at the wedding, wants to reconcile and doesn't care what he has to do to bring it about. The forbidden romance that develops is fun to read and the story is paced well. I enjoyed the relationships with friends and family that the characters formed and strengthened during their enforced togetherness at the inn. To me, the denouement and ending seemed a bit abrupt, and I would have liked them to be developed a little bit more, but all in all, this is an enjoyable read.
This was a pleasant book with an interesting premise. I found the characters, particularly those of the protagonist Libby, and the leading man, Noah to be underdeveloped. It was difficult to really get involved with Libby’s problems as the reader had not really been privy to any of her heartache, as that portion of the story was largely skipped over. The ending also comes abruptly with no real resolution. A quick, fairly pleasant read. Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel
I wish there are more of them after the wedding.
I wish the wedding scene did not take so much of the book but the title is literally My Best Friend’s Wedding. Why? Because I hope there will be chemistry between them at the Wedding you know but I don’t get it. They just kinda be there with each other because of the situation, help each other, and no flirting whatsoever. I feel no slow burn at all. I felt like Libby is the only one showing interest to Noah. And the one time people mention to Libby that she and Noah kinda have something going on because the friend and the guests at the wedding see them together the whole night is the only time I guess I realize “ohh I guess he is flirting with her?”. The rest? I felt like Noah did feel the attraction to her that’s why he got close to her the whole time they’re together but while they’re together? Nah I didn’t see it.
And the ending? I wish to know more. That’s why the whole wedding place need to be shorten and what happen with them after need no get more.
The ex and the cousin? THEY CAN GO TO HELL.
I had a feeling on the reason why they split but ohmy I still teared up when she said My Rufus.
Once again THE EX AND THE COUSIN CAN GO TO HELL.

I’m trying so hard to broaden my reading experience and read genres that aren’t my go to, so I was excited to receive a copy of My Best Friend’s Wedding and dive into another romance read.
Just weeks before her wedding to Rufus, Libby discovers that her fiancé has been having an affair with her cousin and her future and her happiness are all thrown out the window in a matter of minutes.
Still reeling from the heartbreak six months later, Libby is bridesmaid to her best friend Willow. Set amongst the beautiful stately home of Lovage Hall on Christmas Eve, complete with falling snow, it’s the picture perfect setting for a wedding.
Libby tries to keep her spirits high and enjoy her best friend’s special day, but overshadowing everything is the possibility that her ex, Rufus, will be there, and he is definitely not someone she is strong enough to face yet.
Thankfully her eye is caught by Noah, one of the Groomsman’s friends. Could the handsome stranger at the wedding help to take Libby’s mind off her painful breakup, or will he turn out to be another man capable of lying and breaking her heart?
This was a sweet read and while overall I did enjoy it, it’s not something I’d rave about or be in a hurry to re-read. I loved the premise of this one but because the entire story took place over the space of 2 or 3 days, in a snowed-in wedding venue, there just wasn’t enough story line to keep me fully interested.
There’s only so many paragraphs you can dedicate to the furnishings of a hotel lobby, or the fact that you don’t have a change of clothes with you, and unfortunately complete chapters were dedicated to this.
I’m determined to keep persevering with my romance reads and I certainly didn’t dislike this one, maybe just not quite the right one for me.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this one.
*Thanks to the publisher for sending me this copy in advance of an honest review*
There are books that you start and immediately "click" with you and let you enter in the story. This one didn't. At least, for me.
The writing style seemed to report a sort of "old" story, but since the beginning all seemed too exaggerated and full of drama or common dialogues. I couldn't empathize with the main character or find a real interest in what I was reading.
I'm sad because I love this kind of story but unluckily this doesn't seem for me.
The story
Libby is dealing with her recent breakup with ex-fiancé Rufus when it’s time for her to be the chief bridesmaid at her friend Willow’s wedding to Tomas. The wedding is being held in a stately country home hotel on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, the snow comes piling down and everyone is stuck in the hotel overnight because the roads are impassable, Rufus has turned up as an invited guest and then the power trips because of the weather. When Libby spots a handsome stranger, Noah, amongst the wedding guests, the two connect with a sizzle. But he lives in California and she lives in the UK, could this possibly be a thing?
My thoughts
A lot of this book is filled with the emotional musings of things from Libby’s point of view. The events that led up to Libby and Rufus breaking up, wondering how she will keep out of his way at the wedding, her thoughts about Noah and whether he has a past she should know about. The story is sweet but it did sound like the wedding from hell being stuck in a hotel in a bridesmaid dress 👗 without a change of clothes or power after a long day and night of wedding prep and the actual wedding itself 🙈. Good for Libby that she managed to find a handsome stranger to keep her occupied 😉❤️
DNF. I didn’t love the constant inner monologue of the main character Libby. Enough to not finish the book.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy.
At times this felt a bit static for me and i suspect that was because the characters were all stuck at one venue for a while. In terms of character action it moved quite slowly. However, the before and after were interesting. I never usually fall for characters in books, but could see why Noah would be popular and love-able. A wonderfully tedious attention seeking ex and an unusual Christmas piece.
