Typical YA mystery, nothing special. The main character was whiny and thought that everyone she met was the culprit. Not much of an exciting read and had a boring ending
I deeply love a thriller so I was very excited to receive a release copy of Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets. However, while I normally tear through thrillers at an unhealthy pace, this one took me a while to get through. I never really connected with any of the characters and the pacing sometimes felt a little off. Savannah felt a little bratty and a lot of the flashbacks made me like her less for the way she had acted in the past to Piper. Yes, sister drama does happen in real life, but not the extent I feel this novel paints it. Especially with the dating the sister's best friend's boyfriend thing. And don't even get me started on the best friend flirting to then love the other best friend thing.
In the end, I enjoyed the book enough but I don't know if I would recommend it to others just based on how I felt and how long this took me. I will say however, that I enjoyed the twist at the end with the teacher at that it went in a direction I didn't expect at the beginning. The ending of the novel however wasn't quite what I was looking for and felt like they tried to wrap it up a little too neatly, a little too quickly. Would try this author again though and see what other writings she has!
This was an interesting, intriguing and fresh book. I thoroughly enjoyed every second I spent reading it. I felt like I was apart off the book, the detail was simply impeccable, thank you for this book!
Thank you so much for the e-ARC of this book! I really loved the cover and was excited about the premise of this one. I love a good YA story, especially when it includes thriller or mystery elements.
I wanted to love this one more than I did. I felt there was a lot of potential in this story, but it ultimately fell flat for me because I didn't feel like it had an adequate conclusion. It was very short and predictable, which I expect somewhat from a YA book but not to this extent. I felt the characters were annoying and didn't have many redeeming qualities, so I found myself struggling to keep reading. If someone is really looking for a basic YA mystery, this might be ok for them but it didn't suit my tastes!
Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks and Chelsea Ichaso for the free e-book I exchange for an honest review.
I find I’m very hit or miss with YA novels and after some contemplation, I still don’t know exactly where I stand on this one. It was middle of the road for me. It’s interesting, but it did drag a bit in the middle until we really get into the meat of the story. I did enjoy the twist and the reveal of who actually committed the crime, but I’m not sold on the rest.
This book was suspenseful and intriguing! It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in reading a sharp thriller!
I started to read this a while back but I wasn't into it because I was a little irritated by the main character, Savannah. I just found her whiny and self centered. All the talk about what happened before Piper fell into a coma didn't sit well with me.
This is a high school drama,so the characters' actions are not that mature. When I read this again, I found myself hooked, and I admit, I tried to guess who the culprit is. The twists were good that I didn't guess it correctly.
This book is good but I can't help feeling that way at the first half of the book.
This is definitely an interesting YA mystery/thriller.
The cover and title both drew me in. the summary seemed promising.
However, the actual execution of the plot was a bit disappointing. the pacing was very slow and it was hard to push myself to keep reading. I felt that the ending was a bit rushed and underwhelming.
I just read A LOT of books in this genre so this one felt a bit repetitive to me, but I think it may work better for other readers.
This was a hard book for me to get in to, and it continued to struggle to hold my interest. I've enjoyed Ichaso's other books, but this one was not a favorite for me.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I would definitely consider this a guilty pleasure read. It was not amazing but I found it entertaining and fun. Reading through Savannah's point of view was interesting because she's basically a jerk and unapologetic about it. However, there were way too many red herrings at the end that I felt like it distracted from the story.

First, I want to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for gifting me this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
This was just the book I needed to read to return completely from my reading slump It was an intriguing, fast-paced, and mysterious book and it kept me hooked from beginning to end.
I definitely recommend it if you want a light read for this summer!
Dead Girls Can’t Tell Secrets is a twisty, fun YA mystery that keeps you guessing. Savannah’s little sister, Piper, fell from a high cliff and the story is she tried to kill herself, but Savannah’s not quite convinced. What ensues is Savannah following various clues to figure out just what happened, including joining a club and spending a few nights camping not far from where Piper fell. We’re taken on a journey through multiple different suspects and high stakes that ended with someone miraculously escaping death.
I have to admit, originally, it took me a while to get into this book. I’d read a chapter or two and then forget about it. This meant that my willingness to read this book just fell and fell.
However, I enjoyed Savannah’s determination to get to the bottom of what happened. She was headstrong and wouldn’t let other people put her off. I wasn’t a fan of the way she jumped to conclusions. Whenever there was one clue that would lead to someone, she’d instantly accuse them of trying to kill her sister, even if the clue was so minuscule that that couldn’t have been the case. It got annoying and took me out of the book.
The side characters were somewhat interesting. Not enough to make me want to know more about them, but enough to keep me reading.
Overall, I think this was definitely a book that kept you guessing and I personally think the culprit was well hidden. I think Savannah’s character could have been more mature, but I’d definitely pick up another one of Ichaso’s books.
Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets follows Piper who was in a strange hiking accident and she has been in a coma ever since, and the doctors do not know if she will ever wake up. Piper's sister Savannah finds a note in Savannah which might lead to answers about what happened to piper. To discover the truth about Piper Savannah joins the survival club that Piper belonged to. But she has to be careful about how she finds out the truth because everyone in the club is a suspect.
Thank you so much Firebooks and NetGalley for the ARC of this one. I really enjoyed this book. I like how we didn't really get full on answers to what happened until the very end. From the very start of this book you were dying for answers. I also really liked the setting of this book. For most of the book the setting was in the woods and that led to more of a distrust of everyone. I also enjoyed how the ending was not expected. Overall this is a really good YA mystery / thriller novel. Since I am a little late with my review this book is out now. So I would highly suggest reading this one. It was one of the best YA mystery/thrillers I have read in a while.
I really enjoyed this book. Such a great thriller that held my attention throughout. It was such a suspenseful read and the twists were unexpected. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I feel like crime fiction lovers will enjoy this engaging read.
My Rating: 3.5 stars

Savannah Sullivan is Piper's older sister. But Piper was always the smarter one and the one that everyone thought would go far in life. That is until she fell from a cliff and is now on life support. They can't figure out if she did it herself or if someone else was with her. So now Savannah feels like she must figure out what happened to her sister that day, and what caused her to even be up there in the first place. To do this she must follow in Piper's footsteps and join a Survivor-type club, and go camping with them. She has to get close to them, all while also keeping this a secret from her boyfriend who would have talked Savannah out of it.
Overall I did enjoy this book. I liked how fast-paced it was and how everything started to connect. I'm not going to lie I did think it could have been any of them that had caused Piper to fall by the middle of the book. A lot was going on in each of their lives and how they were all connected because of being friends and going to school with each other for so long. But there were also secrets that they were all keeping for each other, and to protect themselves. This book does have you guessing about everyone and why they were doing something, and what was the point of it to a certain extent, was it to protect themselves, or because of the feelings, they had due to past circumstances. I've noticed this is something that Ichaso does a lot in her books now that I've read several of them. They do it well and it works, and it has you flying through the book because you must know what happened, and why it happened.
None of them were entirely innocent to some extent, and everyone was to blame for certain feelings or had a hidden agenda. But by the end, I still was not able to figure out 100% who was with Piper that day, and what happened. It wasn't until it was fully explained and we saw them confess that I was able to put all the pieces together of the why they did it.
This book had so many suspects and secrets. Loads of red herrings and suspicious behavior, it was hard for me to pin the down who did it! I enjoyed the mystery of it all. The grief from Savannah, as well as the others, was thick and you could feel it. I also feel bad for the people who were in the club who were actually there for the club. Overall I enjoyed the read and how each of the characters did have to realize their part and sort that out.
Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets is a solid YA thriller, but it skews towards the younger audience. The story is about an older sister who goes to great lengths to find out what really happened to her younger sister who had a hiking accident and was left in a coma. When she finds a note in her sister's locker inviting her to a hiking meeting, she knows she wasn't alone. The story is filled with twists and solid characterization. Highly recommended to younger audiences looking for a mystery.
This had strong spooky overture that set the tone for the story. The characters worked to engage the reader and overall it was an engaging read.
**Disclaimer: I received a free eARC of Dead GIrls Can't Tell Secrets by Chelsea Ichaso through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this opportunity.
Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets by Chelsea Ichaso is a young adult mystery novel. It is about a girl named Savannah who is trying to solve the mystery of what happened to her sister, Piper, who fell off a cliff. People think it's suicide but Savannah doesn't agree. It was published on April 5th, 2022. I rated it three stars on Goodreads.
Here's the summary from Goodreads:
Piper's fall was no accident. Did someone want her dead? It's up to her sister to discover the truth in this shocking new thriller with an unreliable narrator, from the acclaimed author of Little Creeping Things.
Piper Sullivan was in a strange hiking accident last month and has been in a coma ever since. Her older sister, Savannah, can't pretend to be optimistic about it; things look bad. Piper will likely never wake up, and Savannah will never get any answers about what exactly happened.
But then Savannah finds a note in Piper's locker, inviting Piper to a meeting of their school's wilderness club...at the very place and on the very day that she fell. Which means there was a chance that Piper wasn't alone. Someone might've seen something. Worse, someone might've done something. But who would want to hurt the perfect Piper Sullivan...and why?
To discover the truth, Savannah joins the club on their weekend-long camping trip on the same mountain where her sister fell. But she better be careful; everyone in the club is a suspect, and everyone seems to be keeping secrets about that tragic day.
And Savannah? She's been keeping secrets, too...
Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets had an interesting plot, and I think that's why I ended up requesting it from NetGalley. The title was a good clickbait as well. I'm definitely glad that I read it, but it wasn't my favourite young adult mystery that I have read.
The story premise was really interesting. I liked the idea of a sister investigating what happened to her sister out of guilt. It made things messy and complicated and I like that kind of drama. The book definitely followed through on that drama. It was messy, twisted, and complicated, and I enjoyed that aspect.
I felt that it had an interesting pacing. The bulk of the novel took place over a week and a bit, with a good chunk happening in a single camping trip weekend. It kept you invested because you just needed to know what was going to happen. However, I kind of wish that it had been a bit more spread out.
I liked the main character well enough, and the side characters were interesting as well. The dynamics between the characters were messy and complicated, but I felt like some of those dynamics changed too quickly considering the pacing of the book.
This was a fun read, and I'm glad that I read it. However, it wasn't my favourite. That being said, if you are at all interested, you should definitely make sure to pick it up and give it a read.
I felt like I was looking for more but this is a YA/ thriller and I wanted something more "scarier" in a sense, but this book did a great job for serving it to the YA community and I did enjoy this read!
