A fantastic story!
The characters in this series are so well written, you're pulled right into the story. Start to finish this was edge of your seat reading.
Each of the novellas can be read as standalone, but to really experience Widows Island and the characters, you should read them all. You won't be disappointed.
5 stars all the way!

Former FBI agent Kate Wilde has moved back to Widows Island to lead a less stressful life. When she receives a package with a small child’s jaw bone in it she is drawn back into her old job. This book is a novella but it still had plenty of twists to keep you turning the page. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy,

A very quick and enjoyable read. Much shorter than expected but it is a complete story. Don't expect a lot of character development if you haven't read any of the other books in this series. It's enjoyable on it's own, but a bonus if know the characters a little bit

‘The Lost Bones’ is novella number 8 in this series and you definitely need to have read the previous books in this series. Former FBI agent Cate Wilde is enjoying her new life as a bakery/bookstore owner and planning her wedding to local doctorHenry. That is until a package is left for her containing clues for an unsolved child kidnapping case she worked 7 years ago. Cate is brought as a consultant to finally try and close this haunting case.
The story was intriguing but also a little disturbing. Be forewarned, it does deal with the issue of kidnapping/potential murder of a child.
This was good, quick, easy novella to read in one sitting. 4 stars from me.

I really love this series, I love the concept and how the writers each focus on a character. Tessa & Cate are a dynamic duo. Fast paced and with a twist from Cate’s FBI days I was hooked.

I loved this high octane, pulse pounding thrill ride. The character development enhances the story while the action keeps the reader fully engaged.

Another great addition to the Widow’s Island series! Haven’t read any of the other series by Kendra Elliot but will definitely be checking them out. Thank you NetGalley.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I must admit that short stories are not always my thing, but this book was definitely an exception. Well written, great characters, good plot. A recommended read

As always stories by Kendra Elliot keep you completely immersed and you don't want to put the book down. This novella was no exception.

When Cate is given a package she has no idea that she is going to be pulled back in to help the FBI, nor if she wants to be.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If one of my favourite authors will only write short story like this one, I don’t think I can ever complain of having nothing to read.
I loved it. Quick, suspenseful and so addictive.
Another must read story

In this addition to the Widow's Island novella series, ex-FBI agent Kate receives a grisly package that pulls her back into one of her old FBI cases, where a little girl had gone missing. She pulls her doctor/island coroner boyfriend Henry along on the investigation, alongside longtime friend and sheriff's deputy Tessa.

It sounded pretty compelling on the blurb, but if I'm honest, this just fell flat for me. Part of it was that we know early on who the culprit is, so there's no real suspense there.

I also think I simply find Henry and Kate a much less compelling couple and characters compared to Logan and Tessa, the other established couple in this series. While they both have characters and relationships built up in their novellas, I don't feel like we really get much more insight into either Henry or Kate from this latest novella.

Finally, the way Kate is pulled into this investigation is ridiculous. She is essentially a civilian, with PTSD and out of the field for 18 months, yet her old boss treats her like she is the only one who can work the case. And yet there really isn't that much case to work. It just felt a bit samey compared to Kendra Elliott's previous novella in this series.

On the positive side, there is a bit of action and peril towards the end, and Kendra Elliot has an engaging, flowing writing style that brings the setting and people to life. Unfortunately, for me, this didn't quite make up for the weak mystery, and the fact I still had a number of questions at the end of the novella. Still worth a read, if you've read the rest of the series, but this is the weakest book in the series so far by far.

A well written novella that is part of a romance/suspense series. The author gives enough brief details about the H/h's background, so that a new reader can easily follow the stories of the people living and working crime scenes on this isolated, tourist driven, pacific northwest island. (Widow's Island). There are lots of side characters that make brief appearances and red herrings to confuse the investigation. The author is great at packing complete and well rounded crime stories into the novella format.

It's a standalone murder/kidnapping investigation, featuring the disappearance of a small child seven years ago. New evidence has emerged and Cate is roped in to help. (It's an old cold case of hers, but she's no longer with the FBI). Henry, her fiance, is the local doctor and coroner and is also front and centre in the story. There's a small sprinkling of romance and I have enjoyed all the books in this series, including this one. I recommend reading from the beginning of the Widow's Island series if possible, but it's not necessary. All books are in Kindle Unlimited. My thanks go to NetGalley and Montlake for the eARC in return for my opinion. (Publication date is October 26, 2021)

THE LOST BONES is part of a series of RS novellas by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh in the ‘Widows Island’ series. A former FBI agent moves to this island after being shot, All of a sudden a lead in a 7 year old cold case opens up, where a little girl who disappeared at the hand of her father arrives on her doorstep.

Another good boo in an entertaining series.

This was my first Kendra Elliot book; I know i'm late to the party. I enjoyed this book. I like that the scene setting is done quite quickly and all the main characters were introduced in the first two or three chapters. Im not sure what category this book is in? Romantic suspense? The romance is very low-key which suits me fine to be honest though I liked that he appears in a more prominent role in the storyline toward the end of the book.
The main character is likeable, a former FBI agent who police have returned to because of a new development on one of her previously unsolved cases. She is immediately swept back into her old work and really seems to care about the poor child still missing. In her new role, she's working in a bakery and though she likes it, you can tell she's glad to be back in public service.
I would like to read more Kendra Elliot books because they go at a good lick. No word is wasted and the action/ main crime storyline starts pretty quickly. The action continues and so the reader is swept along with things pretty much through the whole book. This book is part of a series but reads well as a stand-alone, I will, however, read the others now.
I highly recommend this book to suspense lovers. The characters were well-drawn and the main protagonist is very good - I wanted her to succeed.

Number eight in the Widows Island series. Kendra Elliot has certainly delivered. I love all of the brilliant kendra's books. Her novellas are equally as good. They might be short, as novellas are, but they certainly don't lack in substance. Fast paced and full of brilliant excitement. Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Kendra for allowing me to read this Arc.

The lost bones was a gripping read. When former FBI agent Cate Wilde moves back to Widow’s Island, she envisions a simpler life than the one she had in law enforcement. But Cate’s past has a habit of catching up with her. When she receives a mysterious package containing a child’s mandible, she finds herself thrust back into action.
Action from the first chapter with a fast pace and great characters.

I've always been a fan of kendra elliot but I've got to say this was one of my favourite books by her. The pace never let up from start to finish. The characters were strong and the story held from page one. Looking forward to reading more of hers.

This is book eight in the ongoing series about Window's Island and its inhabitants. The past has come back to haunt former FBI agent Cate Wilde in the form of a note and bone delivered to her.. She suspects the bone belongs to a missing little girl she was never able to locate.
I look forward to the release of four new novella every Fall by Melinda Leigh and Kendra EllIot. These short, fast paced mysteries are perfect for reading in one sitting. The authors do a great job of intertwining the story lines so as not to confuse the reader.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for providing a copy of this book for review.
