Melissa Tagg has always created stories that always capture you from the first page, from the location to the characters and Autumn by the Sea is no different. Autumn by the Sea is an enchanting tale in book one of the Muir Harbor Series. You will not want to leave Muir Harbor after reading this.

Neil MacKean is skeptical of yet another young woman poking around and claiming relation to Maggie, the woman with a big heart who took him in when no one else would.

Sydney has always longed for a place to belong, so when a private detective approaches her with a story that sounds too good to be true, she takes the leap and travels to Muir Harbor.

A heartwarming seaside seaside drama, with strong themes of faith, family and finding your home. I loved getting to know all the characters and learn to appreciate their intricate relationships.

A well written read, with a great depth to it, well developed characters in a small seaside setting. I loved Maggie's heart for each of her chosen family, and how she welcomes Sydney with open arms, not knowing who she may or may not be. Highly enjoyable, heartwarming, and engaging.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Autumn By The Sea is beautifully written and heartfelt. There were moments I laughed out loud.—I’m looking at you meet-cute. There were definitely moments I cried. I was intrigued by and pulled into the mystery the entire time, and I’m still trying to figure some things out. Can we get the next book now, pretty please?

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a book not set in Maple Valley, but let me tell you now—visit Muir Harbor! It does not disappoint.

Also—check out the hand lettering on the cover! Is it not stunning?

I truly enjoyed this book, the characters, the setting, the storyline.....all of it. This series is set in Maine and centers around Maggie Muir, a woman who has adopted three children as her own and who is also in search of her long lost granddaughter, Cynthia. When Maggie hires a private investigator to search for Cynthia she invites the woman that might be her to stay with the family on their blueberry farm and get to know each other. There are several humorous moments in this story and some very real questioning of faith.

I absolutely fell in love with this story and want to read more about this "family".

Sydney had been abandoned as a toddler and lived through foster homes but never felt like she had a home. She only had her foster brother, Micah and a good friend, Nikola, in her life. Others came and went but she never felt like she was home. When a private investigator finds her and tells her he thinks he knows who her grandmother is, she decided to risk it all to find out if this is true and goes to Maine for two weeks.

Neil was never adopted but felt a part of the Muir family. He ran the blueberry farm and helps his "sisters" and "mother" but he always felt just a little outside the circle. When Sydney shows up at the family farm, he is determined to not like her or trust her. She is probably like the others who had come and gone and pretended to be someone they were not. But, it didn't take long until he felt that she was different and he didn't want to let her go.

This story weaves a thread through several lives drawing them together and leaving a beautiful tapestry of hope, love, family, romance, and even a little mystery and danger. It is a story that is clean without foul language and salacious details. It is a story of people I would love to get to know better.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

Autumn by the Sea is a Christian romance novel written by Melissa Tagg. It is book one in the Muir Harbor series.

Summary: As a child, Sydney Rose bounced from foster family to foster family. At 18, she’s set adrift to survive on her own. All she’s ever wanted was a family, so when a private investigator tells her she might have a grandmother named Maggie, she is desperate enough to travel halfway across the country to see if it could be true.

Neil MacKean has known Maggie for most of his life, and he wants nothing more than to protect her from yet another disappointment. So when Sydney arrives, he is determined not to like her.

But the more time Neil spends with Sydney, the more he starts to like her. Is she really Maggie’s granddaughter, or is he setting himself up for heartbreak?

My Thoughts: I loved this book. It is well-written, the characters are so easy to fall in love with, and there is a good mystery as well.

I am pretty picky when it comes to romance novels-I don’t like anything too mushy or cheesy, but this book strikes the perfect romantic balance, and I really enjoyed it.

This one is definitely worth buying, and I can’t wait for the next one!

I would like to thank Larkspur Press for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!

I'm telling you, Melissa Tagg just gets better and better! Autumn by the Sea played a symphony on my heartstrings, and I want to get in the car and drive to the Maine coast to find Muir Farms TODAY. Too bad it's a fictional place! I loved the family dynamic within the story, and that while they were a close-knit group, they were willing to open themselves to letting in the stranger in their midst.

Readers who love books that alternately make them cry on one page and snicker on the next, with all kinds of emotion on nearly every page, will love Autumn by the Sea. I can hardly wait for book 2, A Seaside Wonder, to hit the bookstands! I cannot recommend it highly enough!

I've been reading some serious books lately interspersed with a thriller and a historical fiction, so I was ready for a light read. AUTUMN BY THE SEA by Melissa Tagg was a good choice. There must be hundreds of books with coastal settings that feature either fresh start stories or family dynamics or perhaps a bit of a mystery so I was a bit apprehensive as I started this read. But AUTUMN BY THE SEA combines all three in a surprisingly fresh way. The only memories Sydney has of her childhood were time spent in foster care, and now an adult she has carved a life of solitude and work in Chicago. Despite rough spots in both their pasts, she has stayed close to one foster brother Micah and worries about his choices. Then a private investigator approaches her, telling her that she may be the granddaughter of Maggie Muir. A mystery surrounds the car accident death of Maggie's adopted daughter Diana and the disappearance of a toddler girl years ago. So Sydney accepts Maggie's request to come to her Maine farm and that set's the scene for all that I mentioned -- family dynamics, fresh start, and plenty of mystery. While this was a fast fun read, I must warn potential readers that this is the first in a trilogy and you will end this book with many questions left about the Muir family. Luckily, the second book A SEASIDE WONDER will release soon so you can jump from one story to the next easily. I received a copy of AUTUMN BY THE SEA from Netgalley and all opinions are mine.

This one just wasn’t for me. While the style of writing was fine, the story didn’t hook me and I was not invested in the characters within the first 15% enough to continue. Thanks to the publisher for the advanced copy.

Every book by this author just gets better and better. The mystery was well done and the romance was excellent, as always! Where can I get a Neil? I can hardly wait for the next one in the series. I absolutely cannot wait to read about Lillian and Wilder. Please tell me that's a thing! And how am I going to wait until the next instalment to find out about them?!
I cannot recommend this book enough. So so good.

I love other books by Melissa Tagg, but Autumn by the Sea didn't grab my attention as quickly as her earlier works. Maggie Muir has made a family of her own by taking in three children from different families who needed a home, but even with their love, she is always looking for her granddaughter who disappeared as a young child after her birth mother died in a car accident. Sydney Rose is thought to be that missing granddaughter, but will Maggie's three "adopted" children believe she really is? Will Maggie's adopted son Neil allow himself to fall for her?
Autumn by the Sea readers will grow to love the residents of Muir Harbor and I look forward to book 2 of the series.

I have read a couple of Melissa Tagg’s books and have enjoyed them but I think this is by far my favorite. I loved the mystery and the romance in this one and the setting. And there were actually a couple of mysteries to unravel.

Sydney is a very strong and interesting character and who wouldn’t love Neil with his Scottish accent that peeked through every once in a while.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with some mystery thrown in I am sure you will enjoy this book.

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I love how I can pick up a Melissa Tagg book and know that I’m in for a fabulous read. As true with Melissa’s last few books, this novel focuses on the relationships between a motley crew of people brought together under the roof of a beloved home, who in itself becomes a character. It’ll be exciting to see how this new series unfolds!
