Unmissing by Minka Kent is certainly an interesting and unique story with cat and mouse chasing moments. Full of emotional rollercoaster and twists and turns which keeps this reader on the edge of the seat and curled toes on anticipation waiting for a certain moment when something happens in an unexpected way. I didn’t expect the ending when both admit the truth to the readers. I’m sure that any readers who’ve experienced similar please obtain help and remember that the story might be similar to what you’ve experienced but it’s not your story.
I'm a Minka Kent fan but this story is not her best work. When Luca's "dead" first wife comes back to life, Merrit's perfect life is suddenly not so perfect. With a story of unimaginable torture, but no proof, Lydia will work her way into Merrit's happily ever after with undeclared intent. There are a few twists that keep the story from becoming a rerun of a bad movie.
Right from the start I was drawn into the story. Characters were developed well and I could feel myself being in the story and attached.
When someone says a novel is a page-turner, I usually think, “yes obviously, because that’s how books work.” And then every once in a while, I read a book where page-turning takes on a whole new vibe outside the literal. The phrase is overused, and that takes some kick out of it for me, but in this case, I have to say this novel is a hell of a page-turner.
I struggled to find moments to stop reading, so I could do things like eat food and sleep and pay attention to my husband lest he feel second fiddle. I just had to know what was going to happen next, the suspense was tight with a bonkers plot.
It’s a wild, twisted plot that kept me locked in, trying to understand what was going on. I just ate this right up over two sittings. And I very rarely do that. It takes a true page-turner, even if it was leaning towards convoluted. But, I was so engrossed with the drama and the characters and the pacing, that I got on board with the ridiculousness.
The writing style was just a too minimalist for me — I think there was a way to keep the pace while still creating a more robust setting and atmosphere — but overall, this was a winner and has me adding more Minka Kent to my TBR.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book! I really enjoyed this and my jaw dropped a few times! I liked the twists and I will recommend this book and make sure my library owns it! I am going to read more books by this author. Thank you again to NetGalley!
Minka Kent is ALWAYS an author I will pick up no matter what the storyline is. Unmissing was one of the first I've read and I will never look back.
From the beginning, you're immediately drawn into the story. Character development is amazing and you can feel yourself growing attached as the story progresses.
Unmissing was extremely easy to read (which I love from thrillers)! I was hooked enough to read it in one day and I loved that there weren't too many characters and POVs that made it difficult to follow. Though it was enjoyable, I did think the ending was a tad unrealistic and didn't give me the satisfying payoff I crave from thrillers when things start coming together and tie up the book.
What a truly suspenseful book. The story begins with the kidnapping of Lydia. But what unfolds is plot twisting, and nothing like you think will happen. I loved how this story unfolded from page one and kept me sucked in until the end.
If I could give Minka's reads ten stars I would. I've NEVER read/listened to one of her books and didn't devour it. She is AMAZING i highly highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
So twisty and turny (is that a word?) that the pages turned themselves. I love a fast paced exciting book! Many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for review
I've enjoyed many of Minka Kent's novels and was excited to get my hands on "Unmissing".
I thought this was a very good read. The story took a little while to get going but once it did I was hooked. After the halfway mark I had a very hard time putting the book down. I had to see how it all came together.
"Unmissing" was a gripping and exciting read with intriguing characters. Some things may seem a little far fetched but I just went with it. I really liked the short chapters and enjoyed the multi points of view. There were some great twists. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the author threw another curveball into the story.
Another great read from Minka Kent. Can't wait to read more!
This had a decent twist and a plot that kept me interested, but the conclusion felt a little convenient/abrupt. However, it definitely was a quick, entertaining read.
This book has twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seats. One minute you think you know then bomb shell not what you thought at all. Highly recommend.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.
First Minka Kent book for me! Will it be my last? No, because the writing and pacing were good (if not, I woud probably give a 2-star rating). I just hope the protagonists of her other novels act with more realism than in Unmissing! I can appreciate crazy plot twists, but I need to believe in the actions of the characters, and it wasn't the case here. All in all, a fast but forgettable read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC
Lydia went missing while out for a hike more than 10 years ago. Her husband, Luca, and community searched, but nothing was found, questions were left unanswered, and she was eventually declared a dead person. Now a decade later, Luca has managed to rebuild his life from the ruins of trauma – a restaurant empire, sea-side mansion, shiny second wife and 1.5 babies – he sorted himself well for someone who went through such an unspeakable loss.
That is, until his missing bride stops being a memory and returns from the dead.
A compulsively bingeable book. Between a rock and hard place, this twisted love triangle will keep your interest from beginning to end. Just when you think you know how the pages are going to unfold, takes a sharp right to remind you who is in the driver’s seat.
Sadly, this went from awesome to meh real quick. I had high hopes for this one. But it failed miserably to get my attention.
Thanks to Netgalley! Hoping for a better read next time!
I really enjoyed the first half of the novel. It was well paced and moved fast. But then the second plot twist happened, and I was disappointed. The why and how was just unrealistic for me. I still enjoyed it, but didn’t love it.
I have read a couple of other books by Minka Kent and enjoyed every single one. I cannot wait to read more.
The story introduces you to Lydia who has been missing for 10 years when she finally made her way back to her husband, only to find out that he has moved on with a new wife, a daughter, and another baby on the way. Everyone believed she was dead....
Throughout the story, you will go through the ups and downs Lydia experiences to get her life back that was taken from her too quickly. Lydia was kidnapped and tortured and wants revenge but also had no identity to start her new life. Some blackmail is in store and a great plot twist to make you not want to put it down.
Minka Kent is going to be an auto-buy for future books. This one helped me out of my reading slump.
It was so not what i expected. It was written in both views of the wife's. It was pretty nerve wrecking, at the beginning you think you know what is going on and then BOM, so not what I expected. What would you do, if your husbands dead wife comes in your life again? I don't want to spoiler it, but it was definitely a suspense story and so worth the read.
Overall 2 star read. There's no such thing as a perfect life. What happens when such said perfect life comes to a screeching halt. What and how far would you be willing to go to retain that perfect life? How far would we go to solve those secrets while protecting our own secrets? Based on the synopsis i couldn't wait to read. Unfortunately, the author couldn't carry through with the story. The actions of the main character made no sense. The deeper we got into the story, the less i cared about the main person. Some actions were actually laughable. Felt cheated in the end. I've read other books by the author, I know they're capable of a good book. Unfortunately, this ain't it.
