Dead Fall is another fast paced, thrilling read from Nancy Mehl. Suspense fans are sure to devour it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nancy Mehl always delivers a shivery good read! Dead Fall, the second book in her Quantico Files series, steps it up a notch! The creep-factor is strong with this romantic suspense. The FBI’s BAU is back to uncover what is behind some truly bizarre suicides. Or is is murder? Kaley Quinn, the main character from the first book in the series, shows up, but the novel centers on Alex Donovan who looks up to Kaely as a mentor. The strange technique that Kaley employs intrigues Alex, but it opens up a lot of spiritual issues that Mehl does a good job exploring. The crimes are chilling, especially since they seem very much in the realm of possibility. This book gave me a lot to think about! While the suspense narrative is the main emphasis of the novel, there is a romantic thread. I like when the romance is second to the suspense — this book does it right. 😉 If you are looking for a thrilling novel to keep you up all night, then this one is for you.
Recommended.
Audience: Adults
This is book two in The Quantico Files series, however I feel it is a stand alone book. This book is full of many twist and turns, mystery, suspense and much more. We reconnect with Alex Donavan from book one and other characters we met in book one.
We learn more about Alex and Logan who both work for the BAU. there are many different people involved in this book and I feel we will get to know them better in future books. I can't wait to read more from this series. I truly was excited to read this book because it focus' on the BAU. I find that fascinating and the author did not disappoint.
I was given a copy of this novel for my honest opinion.
Oh my, where to start? This book was amazing with its edge of the seat suspense! I had a hard time putting it down as Kaely and Alex team up to catch a bizarre serial killer targeting profiles. Do not miss this book!
This is a fast-paced, edge of your seat read. Second in the series this book stands on its own. It was fun to catch up with Kaely Quinn again and get to know the other characters.
This was an absolute joy to read! I was blown away by the faith aspects in this book. Such a perfect suspense with a foundation built on faith. I adored it so much. I highlighted so many awesome quotes. I adored the action from the case as well. Kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to read more.
Kaely being in this book was the icing on the cake, including the reveal with Noah -- I swooned. I enjoyed Alex ten times more in this book. Her maturity and growth was impeccable. The dynamic between Alex and Kaely was phenomenal. I did find Logan annoying at times, but he pulled through, especially when Noah came through. Monty is my little sugar bear. I just wanted to hug him tight.
The case was such an interesting one. So many suspects and ideas of who it could be but never really figuring it out. I was 100% shocked at who the main unsub and their accomplices were. Nancy knows how to write a good story, keep the faith strong and reel you in with an explosive reveal and ending.
I am too excited to read Free Fall when it releases. Already pre-ordered! I plan to check out more from Nancy soon!!
Highly recommend this trilogy and the Kaely Quinn Profilers trilogy for fans of Criminal Minds!
Dead Fall by Nancy Mehl is book 2 in the Quantico Files. I am an avid reader and read a great deal of Christian romantic suspense every year. Nancy Mehl's books are some of my most favorite reads. With this book, she is at the top of her game. Wow. The FBI element of this book is well researched and fascinating. The crimes themselves are insane and unique. What a crazy villain and so much suspense all along the way make it hard to trust anyone. Such a great read and I recommend it highly. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I really wanted to get into this book but after several attempts stopped around 40% of the way through. Merely reading the action happen in the past was rather dull and the characters seemed flat and unappealing.
My thoughts: the second book in the series seem to be rather creepy to me and I vowed I would not read it last book in a series because it was just too scary. However, here I am having finished the third book in the series and it was not creepy at all. In fact it was rather count compared to the second. I couldn't put the book down, it was gripping, and I couldn't figure out who done it. There are a lot of unexpected twists and turns in this book and a lot of trying to guess. I love this opportunity to say goodbye to this character. I probably won't reread the series but if you love suspense you will absolutely love Nancy Melh and her books. Especially if you are not put off by creepy.. I was giving a copy free and all opinions are my own.
This was only my second Nancy Mehl book, and I'm asking myself why haven't I read more of her books! The story line had a bit of an unexpected turn that I wasn't expecting. It made me stop and reflect on what had happened with the characters up until this point. I reached a point that I had to keep reading past my bedtime to see what was going to happen next! I loved watching the friendship grow between Alex and Kaely, and I look forward to seeing where things go in the future with Alex and Logan. I will be going back and reading book one in this series and will definitely be recommending Nancy Mehl as an excellent author!
This book is a twisty knot involving coerced suicides. Could they all be connected and can the FBI's behavioural unit figure out the connections before it's too late? When one of their own becomes a victim, the stakes only get higher. The suspense is great, the romance good, making this a book that lovers of romantic suspense will enjoy.
In this Christian suspense I found the suspense and all the twists and turns kept me turning the pages. In this second book of the series Kaely Quinn is a target and soon finds her team is also. This is one smart killer and he taunts and keeps us guessing for a long time. This one keeps you turning the pages so, be prepared for some good reading and a late night! I requested a copy through NetGalley, no review was required. My opinion and review are voluntary.
I always enjoy Nancy’s storylines and characters, they are unique. I love watching how the characters unfold who the UNSUB is. This book actually had me guessing until the criminal was revealed. I wondered about that person but I didn’t think it really was. She did a great job of throwing off the reader and keeping us guessing.
There is a strong faith message but unfortunately it’s not really the gospel message. There really isn’t any mention of sin and out need for a Savior because of sin, but more about how God will make our lives better. He does, and can, but not always in the way we want Him to.
I also hate reading about people’s dreams. I find that so boring because I know it’s a dream. This happened a couple of time in this book and I really just skimmed over it. Nancy and I also disagree on theology as hers comes through very clearly in her book. Not that I don’t think some of the things she is writing about can’t happen but it is rare and not something, I believe, Christians should be chasing after. I as there once and I started chasing the gifts instead of the giver and that put me in a very angry place.
With that being said, it is a very interesting story and I did enjoy the plot.
A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Another riveting edge of your seat can't put down books. The characters are intriguing and storyline is one that will have you guessing till the end. A must read
WOW oh WOW oh WOW!
I was a huge fan of the TV show Criminal Minds and this book could have been a season of episodes.
From the opening pages I was sucked in trying to figure out who was behind the crimes and what would happen next. I did start wondering if the antagonist could be a certain character, but Mehl kept me guessing until almost the end.
The characters were great. It was nice to have Kaely Quinn back in the BAU and playing a significant role in this story. But this was definitely Alex Donavon's story and she was great.
I will say this was one of the "darker" Christian fiction books I've read. The antagonist was truly evil and his methods might be difficult for some. But this story is not only a fantastic read, but there is a strong deeper meaning and learning available to the reader.
Disclaimer: I receiving this book from the publisher, but was under no obligation to provide a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Dead Fall was a great read: packed with thrills and twists that made me want to finish, just so I could know if I’d guess right at who the culprit really was. And I was wrong… 🙂 But that just means that the author did a fabulous job of crafting her characters with just enough shade to make so many of them seem as if they could be responsible for the crimes. Wonderful!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
If you enjoy a good thrill ride, pick up a copy of Dead Fall by Nancy Mehl. And I haven’t yet read the first book in this series, but that did not stop me from enjoying the story and being able to connect with the characters, so don’t let the fact that it’s book two of the series stop you. Or get both books! 😉
Happy reading!
Many thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for the digital copy of this novel for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! 🙂
Dead Fall is the second book in Nancy Mehl's Quantico Files series, and I enjoyed it more than the first book, Night Fall. Kaely Quinn, the main character in Mehl's last series, makes an appearance as a serial killer seems to be targeting members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. She is called in to assist Alex and Logan, the main characters in this series. Behavioral analysis, or profiling, is a fascinating topic, and this book provides a glimpse into how those agents do their work.
Because the analysts aren’t field agents, there isn’t as much action throughout the book. Instead, a lot of the book is made up of dialogue as the team develops their profile of the suspect. The lack of action doesn’t mean there is a lack of suspense, though - the perp in this book is definitely one of the most chilling I’ve read about in a while. I had a guess about who I thought it was, but I was wrong!
The reason I didn't love this book, though, is the characterization. The characters seemed a little flat to me at times, and the dialogue a little stilted. Parts of the book seemed repetitive too, as the team kept rehashing their profile without really adding anything new. Overall, I did enjoy the story and I will definitely read the next one in the series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Quantico Files #2
In the thrilling book 2 of The Quantico Files, we not only have another story about Alex Donovan but we meet up with the famous Kaely Quinn from a previous series. This was a fresh and intricately layered story of a diabolical UNSUB that the FBI team is trying to profile in hopes of aiding local law enforcement.
Our readers at our library will love this book.
Thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for the ARC. I also learned the author is from Wichita which is where our son and his wife live. Double Stars.
5 star
Nancy Mehl writes my favorite Christian suspense novels that I’ve come across: they are fast paced and suspenseful, with just enough suspension of disbelief to be interesting without being absolutely improbable, like some other Christian suspense I read. Dead Fall wasn’t my favorite Nancy Mehl book, but overall it was really fun and very suspenseful.
Alex Donovan is the main profiler in this book, but Kaley Quinn from Mehl’s other series (Kaley Quinn Profiler) is also prominently featured in this book, which was really fun. I really enjoyed Kaley Quinn’s series so it was nice to read more about her. The relationship between Alex and Kaley was also really fun to read about, and there was some interesting discussion that was generated from the them working together that I enjoyed.
The mystery/suspense aspect of this book was more disbelievable than some of her previous books, and it took me a while to get into this book (whereas for some of her other books I’ve read, there is nothing but action from the first page). The conversation seemed a little more stilted than usual and the story seemed to flow a little less smoothly. Not to say there wasn’t action early on, which there was, but it took me a bit to get into the story. The suspension of disbelief was greater than the other Mehl books, and so it wasn’t quite what I was used to also.
This book was SUPER suspenseful when it picked up though, and I could not put it down: it was such a thrilling experience! Once I got into the story, it was nothing but action. The villain was incredibly masterful, and the suspense built very well until the conclusion.
Overall, this wasn’t my favorite book written by Nancy Mehl, but I did really enjoy reading it! The twists and turns of this story made it really fun to read about, and I also really enjoyed the interactions between Alex and Kaley and the discussion of the field of behavioral analysts and why they were in the field.
If you’re looking for a good Christian suspense author, Nancy Mehl is a good one to pick up.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion; I was not required to write a positive review.
While I really enjoyed the first book in this series I really struggled with this plot. The premise seemed exciting and unique, but I quickly found it to be just too unrealistic and over the top unbelievable. I could not invest in the story for all of the times I asked myself if that could actually happen, or “why didn’t the person just do this instead.” It took me out of the story. I also felt like it was the battle of the odd heroines as Kailey and Alex were side by side. Both of these characters are really odd and quirky and together it became too much for me. I wanted to love this one, but it just didn’t hit the spot.
