I enjoy Tracie Peterson's books.
I loved her 1st book in this series, trying to find the 2nd book, excited to see this upcoming release.
I could not wait to read. Thank you to publisher for ARC, review is my own.
Travel back to June 1872,
I was swept away, on the ship with them, feeling the excitement
wondering what is to come. I read in a day as I could not stop with these characters.
I am now counting down to the next Tracie Peterson book!
This is a good read with interesting characters. The story line was entertaining and I liked the dynamics of it. Really worth your time in reading. It is clearly Christian which is great.
This is the third book in the 'ladies in the lake' series. It can be read as a standalone as the series as the main link between the books is the strong female characters who have links to the great lakes (as well as one character who is mentioned rather than seen in all books).
I got this book free in exchange for an honest review. This is a book that I intend to purchase for my library and recommend it on, as I found it an enjoyable read.
A heartbreaking story that was poignant and real expression of family and trauma. Such a reminder of coming together and knowing who to trust in life.
Elise's father is the Captain of the Mary Elise, a cargo ship on the Great Lakes. Elise has lived on the boat with her family all her life and now that she is grown up and her mother is deceased, she does all the things her mother used to do, including cooking, laundry and other chores on the ship.
Nick Parker hires on as the First Mate. He grew up in priviledge and then followed his heart and became a ship's captain. After some set backs, and meeting Elise and her father, he asks to be hired on the Mary Elise.
There are a lot of circumstances that need to be resolved to include sheltering Elise's sister from an abusive husband, a possible murderer on the crew and rough weather. This is a great story and I am especially happy about the fact that the main characters had strong Christian ethics and a love for God and the Bible.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
When Elise's mother died, she promised to take care of her father. It was a pledge she took seriously even if it meant giving up on love. When she met Nick, she was intrigued but knew she couldn't marry him because of her promise.
Waiting on Love offered an interesting look at life on the ships that sailed the great lakes, but a lot of the times, the story dragged because it had too much minutiae. I struggled to get into the story because it seemed as if there was too much focus on recounting every single detail which at times got repetitive.
Also, the moments that should have been high tension were dropped in almost as an afterthought.
There were some likable characters such as Elise, Nick, Captain Wright and Tom but they were pretty flat and it was hard to get invested in the characters' stories. I did not like Elise's sister, Caroline, as she seemed shallow and selfish...even near the end when the plot was unraveling.
Duran was a completely horrid character and I didn't quite buy into Captain Wright's reason to keep giving him "second" chances when it was obvious he didn't want them.
I did enjoy the fact that Elise, Nick, and Captain Wright actively pursued a relationship with God. Their faith encourages us to pursue the same.
There are several themes running through Waiting on Love one of which is the fact that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. We will make mistakes but when we are in Christ, healing, forgiveness, and redemption are readily available.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.
WAITING ON LOVE is the first novel in the Ladies of the Lake series by TRACIE PETERSON. It is an historical romance novel, taking place in 1872 between Oswego and Duluth, as captain Bill Wright and his daughter Elise sail the lakes on the Mary Elise.
The story starts in Oswego as their wealthy uncle James Monroe gives Elise’s younger sister Caroline the wedding of her dreams. Although Elise loves Caroline they have grown apart with Caroline preferring the wealthy social scene to life on the Mary Elise. Elise has taken on her dead mother’s duties and has never wanted any other life than to sail with and look after her father on his schooner.
Will her dreams change when the handsome and hardworking Nick Clark joins the crew as first mate?
I like the way the author has based the novel on Christian principles and also the scriptures Elise and her father use throughout to encourage faith in others. I also like to see the restoration that takes place in several of the characters.
The novel is exciting, with the danger of an unruly member of the crew, bad weather and an abusive husband, all playing a part in the story.
It is a most enjoyable and inspiraional read and one I highly recommend.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
