This is an adorable book with cute illustrations about slowing down and enjoying life. I really enjoyed this book.
I loved the message of this book. It is so important to slow down and appreciate the quiet. We live in a very fast paced world and it can get to be very overwhelming. I liked the focus on peace, gratitude and calmness.
Cute! A little tumbleweed who likes to rush through life, letting the wind take her where it will, learns the value of stopping to enjoy what's around her for a bit, instead of rushing on to the next thing. The illustrations are cute and engaging, and I think kids (and their adults) will be able to easily grasp the message of slowing down and paying attention to one's surroundings now and then.

This has a unique point of view in the story. The tumbleweed loves travelling all over the country and seeing what she can find.
Sounds True and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It has beeen published and you can get a copy now.
One day the tumbleweed gets blown into a corner of the barn and the fence next to it. She cries because she can't get to tumbling again. But a surprise awaits her. Can you guess what it is?
Parents and children alike will learn something from this adorable book. A great reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things.
How a tumbleweed learns to slow down and enjoy stillness. Adorable! And houses a great message inside.
I thought that this was a fun read and a great story with a great underlying message for little ones – you do not need to run or go everywhere at a million miles an hour!
The book was easy to read and understand and it had a great natural flow to the writing style.
The words used really suit the target age range and I read this with my daughter who more often than not will be seen running around without a care in the world but after reading this I did make her stop on a walk to look at the things around her in the natural world too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one – as a mum I really enjoyed it and it has just what I look for in a book to read with my daughter – very highly recommended!
Mabel story is exactly fit in a situation when you're going through the motions of your busy life — shuffling from one thing to the next, mind on autopilot — and then suddenly, unexpectedly, that routine is upended. This book are reminder for us to enjoy tranquility and be ease of restlessness.
I loved the illustration but one thing that bothers me are some text can't be seen clearly because the background kind of outshine the text.
Overall, this was a fun book to read with cute illustration and good message.
Thank u Netgalley and Sounds True for the digital ARC.
Slow Down, Tumbleweed was such a fun book for me and my baby to read together. Not only does it do a great job of encouraging a rowdy toddler to get to seep (LOL!), it also sends a great message that reminds us all to take a minute to slow down, appreciate being in the here and now, and have gratitude for the beauty and love we are given in the moment. It is a message that we can all benefit from hearing, both babies and parents. As a parent, I appreciate the message sent in this book -- it is easy to get caught up in a whirlwind of emotion, and sometimes it feels like everything is a rush, especially now as a new parent. This book serves as a gentle reminder to take some time every day to appreciate the little moments, which truly blow by faster than we can imagine. To have more appreciation for every stage of life, and to stop and watch my baby and realize he is growing, and to be sad he wont be this small forever but to also appreciate the milestones he hits as he grows, is truly wonderful and I thank the author for helping me to see the beauty of these precious moments that wont last forever, but are so beautiful while they last.
Mable, an adorable tangle of sticks and dust, is a tumbleweed living in the desert. One day she comes unrooted and rides the winds on an adventure of a lifetime.
On and on she rolls and tumbles over highways, past honking cars, bobcats and desert varmints of every shape and size. The world is her oyster and she loves the freedom and excitement of her non-stop movement. She takes pity on the other weeds rooted to the ground as she zooms by. How boring their lives must be... lifeless she thinks!
Then everything comes to a halt and Mable finds herself stuck between a barn and an old fence. Try as she might she can not budge and break free to continue her life in the fast lane.
"Mabel's heart grew heavy.
Stillness was scary!
Life would become dull, boring, lifeless."
Mable sobs deeply and loudly as she tries to free herself. But alas, she just sits there unable to move. In her confinement she starts observing her surroundings and all the beauty she has been missing. She is transfixed with her observations. She notices things she would be unaware of if she were tumbling and whirling along with great speed. Wisely Mable learns a valuable life lesson. She learns to slow down and appreciate the value of what being still can bring to her.
The illustrations are lovely and the message is positive and inspiring. I highly recommend this book.
The perfect book for the young reader in your life who loves to go, go, GO! This book helps them see the joy and beauty in slowing down.
The illustrations are fun too. My toddler loves to trace the tumbleweed's path as we read.
Very cute book about slowing down and enjoying what is already around you, which I think is a message children don't get to hear very often. The illustrations were great but I thought it ended a little abruptly.
A book about how to appreciate the stillness. The illustrations are so cute and the message is so fun. And along with the message, this book gives some awareness to desert creatures. Plus a fun Texas shoutout.
This book is cute - the graphics make it difficult to read the font. If that could be adjusted it would be much easier. Her little journey is adorable
An overall cute book about teaching kids the value of slowing down. The message was okay and it sort of ended abruptly, but overall it is cute with nice illustrations.
Thank you to netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Sounds True for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. This is a cute book-but not sure if it would convince a child of the wonders of tranquility. I thought the graphics were ok, It is a cute story, of Mabel the wandering tumbleweed. 3.5 stars
I read this with my 3 year old and she loved the artwork and the story. As a parent I didn’t love some of the message. I think the idea of slowing down and taking life in is great but it felt awkward and the story just kind of ended. I think I would have liked to see a little more development and maybe a little less “I’m better than you” attitude from the tumbleweed
Gorgeous desert illustrations! The titular tumbleweed loves her life on the move. She expresses her glee with exuberance as she continues to go, go, g0, until, one day, circumstances leave her stuck. After a period of mourning, she learns to appreciate the small things, the nuances, the things only visible in stillness. Once free, she takes that knowledge with her and fully appreciates both, which I loved. I really appreciated that while her experience was eye-opening, she wasn't judged for liking to move fast and roam free. Instead, she learns a way to ADD stillness to her life while still remaining essentially herself. What an uplifting message!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Loved this sweet one about celebrating life moving fast AND moving slowly -- such an important and relatable lesson for kids of all ages (and adults!). I really enjoyed the vocabulary throughout this book (using words like transfixed, rambled, rumbled, ballyhooed). The illustrations were fun and engaging. Also, I loved the desert/Texan setting and know that kids would love the variety of animals included in the illustrations.
Thank you Netgalley and Sounds True for an advanced ebook in exchange for an honest review. This book will be out 10/5/21!
