This author is really great. I really loved this book. This tale was highly engrossing and highly recommendable!!
A fantastic book which is well written and completely engaging. I have been completely pulled in and kept hostage by this one.
This is unique, intriguing and one that I have devoured.
This book is full of twists and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering who the bad guys is. It definitely kept me guessing until the end, which is one of my favorite pleasant surprises when reading. A page turner to the end, and the possibility of a sequel, perhaps? Good read overall!
Laura and Rachel are two sisters living close to each other, brought up in foster care when their mother died and father disappeared.
Rachel, a history teacher, is struggling with her partner Paul moving out at start of summer break. Laura is married to Ash and has a daughter Amy. They are struggling financially and have marriage problems.
Into their complicated lives arrives their long lost father whom Laura has found on Facebook..
Strong psychological family thriller with some good twists and turns. My only slight problem was that I didn’t like any of the main characters.

Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for a fair review.
Highly recommended.
3.5. It's tough - it's like there was nothing exceptional about this, but it was gripping all the same. I think the build up was very well done. Because of this, I do wish the pay off was better. The "big reveal" fell flat for me and I wished that something else was done to support the building suspense that was brewing. I did like the closing chapter and thought the last paragraph added an extra bite to the ending.
I received an advance copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and opinions. This was a a story that grabbed me right from the first paragraph and will keep you reading "just one more chapter" until you've stayed up way too late reading. I found it to be suspenseful, mysterious and intriguing. The characters are well developed and easy to get to know as you turn each page and learn about their past lives. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Dear Sister by Ruth Harrow is my first read from this author, and I am certainly intrigued enough to look for more. While this is classified as a thriller, I am inclined to suggest that it can be more accurately described as a domestic drama. That being said, it is a solid, satisfying read.
Rachel is a teacher who has always looked out for the best interests of her sister, Laura. The girls were long ago abandoned by their father, who one day turns up out of the blue with wild and shocking allegations that will have the entire family in turmoil. Someone is hiding a terrible secret, and it will change the familial dynamic forever. 3.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an ARC.
**Slight spoilers ahead** This wasn't my favorite read as it felt like everything, even the synopsis, is trying to make this a question of which one is the "bad" one? When from the start I was like why not both? Or all three? None of them were very sympathetic, though I did think Rachel was the only "good" one of the bunch.
I also did not like the writing style as it didn't feel true. I didn't really believe most of the characters as...they didn't feel real. Part of that is the author trying to make us think one thing is happening so that it can be a big twist later, but most of the time I would think okay either the author is really terrible at writing x, because this character or that character is not believable as x, or that is not what is happening. Either way I didn't love it. The very best part of the book was the last chapter when we see who the characters really are in the end. I would have enjoyed this so much more if we saw that from the beginning instead of trying to make us think otherwise so we have a big reveal later. With different writing it could have worked, but instead the whole story came off as unbelievable to me and so it wasn't surprising.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.
It has been a while since I read a good psychological thriller and thought maybe this one would fill the void, but it fell flat for me. The narrative is racy and chapters small, and to the author's credit one starts suspecting everyone by the middle of the story. But, that said and done, a lot of it was cliche, overdone in places and that took away the reading pleasure, plus after mid section, it became kind of apparent where it was going.
The plot was riveting and the book was fast-paced. The narrative is both a psychological thriller and a family drama. The storyline was given a new viewpoint thanks to the narration from Rachel and Laura's points of view. The book became increasingly appealing as the twist and ending unfolded. A good read and a riveting story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this!
I was instantly intrigued by the synopsis of this book. This book instantly drew me in, I got to explore through the eyes of our main character and this is always my favorite way to discover these details of the story and, it was done very well in this book. I really enjoyed this book and the plot. This author did amazing. I loved the writing style.
I've never read this author before and it was advertised as a psychological thriller, but it was more like a family drama.
I can't say I liked any of the characters. The father being the least.
Some of the decisions they made were questionable. I understand their childhood was not good with their mother dying and their father running off. They ended up in foster care.
Now the father is back.
It has a nice pace to it and the writing style isn't bad. This could probably have a sequel but I'm not sure I'd read it. I will however, check out other books by this author.
This was a very fast-paced read with an impressive main twist and lots of interesting little turns woven in between. Ruth does a brilliant job in making you question all of the leading characters, every single one of them becoming a possible suspect to the changes happening. I loved reading from both sister's POV, as Rachel was the more stable sister with her head screwed on and a determination to make a life for herself, whereas Laura, from a psychological perspective, had a fascinating personality that had me curious of her for a lot of the story.
A great and gripping thriller to enjoy this October!
This is my first book by this author. The story is told in alternating chapters, narrated by the two sisters Laura and Rachel. I found this an easy read with a good story line a few twists and turns , its was a little predictable in places and the sisters weren't the most likeable characters but saying this i would read more by this author.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Inkubator Books and #NetGalley for my honest opinion
Twists, turns, thrills, you’ll be racing to find out who did it.
This book was a very quick read, I finished it in a day, and I really enjoyed it. There were lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing right until the end. I liked the short chapters and the dual narrative, although I didn't enjoy from the perspective of Laura as she just wasn't a nice person. On the whole a decent wee thriller, definitely worth a read.
*Thanks to NetGalley, Inkubator Books and Ruth Harrow for the copy of this book. All views are my own.*
Thank you NetGalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review. What a terrific thriller. The book is written from the perspective of two sisters. The chapters alternate between the sisters as you get to know each of their characters. One of the twists in the end, is pretty obvious but there is a little more that is unexpected.
I suspected everyone at one point!
Twisty and heart racing.
Although I found one twist easy to see coming, the tension was still there and I didn’t see the ending coming!
A few questions left unanswered and certain things not discussed/concluded.. could see a second book coming from this!
Easy to read, characters and dialogue were believable.
What wasn’t easy to read were some parts above Amy, but that’s just from a mother and in no way a criticism of the author or book, it was necessary to the story and made it more emotional.
Thank you @netgalley @inkubatorbooks, and Ruth Harrow for the advanced copy of this book.
“Dear Sister” is a story that is narrated by two sisters, Rachel and Laura. The girls grow up in separate foster homes after their mom passes away snd their father abandons them. Years later after the girls reconnect, Laura finds her father through social media. She is eager to make amends but Rachel is not so trusting as their lives slowly begins to unravel .
I was intrigued with this book right from the start it was full of many twists and turns throughout the story. I also felt it was well written and I definetly would love to read more of Ruth Harrow’s backlist books. I would have liked for the author to have developed the characters more and some of the “ twists “ seemed pointless to the story. Overall I would recommend this book.
This was OK and an easy read. I didn't warm to any of the characters but they were some interesting plot lines.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own
