One More Kill is the ninth book in the FBI Agent Brandon Fisher series from author Carolyn Arnold. I have read most of the books in this collection and the first thing that struck me when reading this one was how different it was from the others.

The book opens with a gruesome murder by someone hunting couples with a bow and arrow and making them run before shooting them down and doing other nasties to their bodies. The murderer is a serial killer who has been quiet for many years after previously killing a couple every five years in different small towns across the USA. The lead detective at the time was Brandon Fisher’s boss Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper, who has been put back in charge of this team to hunt the one that got away.

Because the focus of the book was on a seasoned serial killer and the one who could never catch him, Jack, the book features him far more than the lead character Brandon which I wasn’t keen on, I like the leads in books to be the lead not play second fiddle. Plus, the book is more focused on the hunt so there is less action than in most of the other books in the series from the killer and the book is far less gruesome (I noted that book eight wasn’t up to the usual standard either). This may appeal to many people, but this is one series I expect the scenes to be brutal and savage and it felt a little of a let-down to not have me needing to sleep with the light on and double-checking the windows and doors!

As usual, the characters are mainly likeable, the scenes realistic, and the book does leave you feeling fulfilled by the end. The story of a killer making his victims run and hunting them down is a tried and tested plot in movies, TV Series, and books, yet, something is gripping about a killer hunting their prey and wondering if the victim can outsmart their predator that keeps you glued to the pages, just like a team on the killers tail too.

One More Kill may not have been the most sinister book in the series, that will be book six Remnants, but it gives the reader a chance to get to know the FBI agents better, watch how they work, and an insight into how they gain new leads and follow clues both old and new.

A fantastic fast paced FBI thriller, I couldn’t put it down, really enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading more from this author..

One More Kill is not the first book by Carolyn Arnold that I have read and it won’t be the last. I love every book by Carolyn Arnold that I have read but the Brandon Fisher books hold a very special place in my heart. I love the writing style. I love the profiling. One More Kill reminded me of that TV show Prodigal Son with Tom Payne. In the Prodigal Son, Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) is an FBI profiler too.

I love that we get the crime at the very beginning of the story. I like following the characters as they follow up on each and every clue that leads them closer and closer to the killer. I like that we know who the victims are, where they are killed and how they are killed but what we don’t know is who did the killing or why.

While One More Kill is a fast read it does have a slow build-up as they say that keeps you glued to the pages as each and every clue takes you closer to the killer. Each and every book just gets better and better. I can’t wait for more Brandon Fisher books.

We get the story from different points of view. We even get to see the killer's point of view as the murders are taking place. We get to go inside the mind of a killer so to speak.

I highly recommend One More Kill to anyone who loves a good Hard-Boiled mystery! One-click your copy of One More Kill today for another engaging mystery!

Carolyn Arnold’s opening pages for One More Kill made me cringe and I love that she pulls me into the story so quickly.

FBI Special Agent Brandon Fisher of the BAU, along with his cohorts, Paige Dawson, Kelly Marsh, their new boss, Tony Manning, and, of course, we cant leave out Nadia Weber, the gang”s Penelope Garcia from the Criminal Minds TV show, are called in. As they discuss their next case, Jack, their boss before he was temporarily replaced by Tony Manning, steps through the door and says, “”Wheels Up.” They believe The Leopard is back and the higher ups have let Jack return for the case. He was there when The Leopard first hit their radar. It was his first major case and it haunts him. For Jack, it’s personal. Could his career be on the line?

The Leopard has not been heard of for fifteen years, and Jack has been diligent about keeping his ears open and constantly on the alert for anything that could hint he was active. He is back and they are headed to Huntsville, Arkansas.

His targets are Caucasian couples and his modus operandi is always the same. His signature is cats eye marbles and he puts them to a gruesome use.

The Leopard is a chameleon, easily shedding one persona for another. He is charming, but his life is a facade. He kills for the sheer joy of it. He felt life was survival of the fittest and he doesn’t shy away from a challenge. In fact, it gets his blood boiling. For Jack it was personal, and before it’s over, it will be for The Leopard too.

One More Kill unravels like a Criminal Minds episode, as does much of Carolyn Arnold’s Brandon Fisher series. Does she do her research? That is a definite YES. That is also why she is highly respected by law enforcement. I have watched and still watch reruns of Criminal Minds, so it is easy to follow along and visualize their journey, beginning to end.

While the story was quick to grab me, it slows down as the investigation begins. We have to do some research of our own for the case and things are not always action, action, action. Carolyn Arnold paints an accurate description of events through her words. She is a must read author for me.

I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of One More Kill by Carolyn Arnold.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. I have read several of Carolyn Arnold’s books, and I’ve enjoyed every one of them, so I was happy to read another one.

Brandon Fisher works for the BAU with the FBI. When they are called to investigate murders by an unsub who they thought had stopped killing 15 years ago, Brandon’s boss, Jack, is thrown for a loop. The Leopard, as the killer calls himself, was Jack’s first case and had never been solved. It’s not usual for Jack to be emotional about cases, but this one is different.

Even though the team Brandon works on is does a great job at solving cases, they each have their own problems, and Carolyn Arnold does a good job at developing each character. She makes them seem real, just like you or me (probably with better solving skills though).

This book starts with a horrific murder of a couple. Not only were they gutted, but their eyeballs were removed and replaced with cat’s eye marbles. I still cringe when I think of those dead marble-filled eyes.

I like Carolyn Arnold’s writing whether it’s a cozy mystery or an FBI thriller or something in between. Her writing flows well and her characters are realistic. If you like murder mysteries, serial killers, and/or the TV shows like Criminal Minds, you will like the Brandon Fisher series.

One More Kill was a action packed thriller that has the FBI tracking down a serial killer. This was the ninth book in the series, and although I hadn't read any of the previous books I had no problem reading this as a stand alone. This book was able to keep me turning the pages until the very end. I would definitely recommend it to others.

I received a ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, I am under no obligation to leave a favorable review all opinions expressed here are my own.

In One More Kill, book 9 of the Brandon Fisher FBI series, Arnold delivered a gritty police procedural designed to keep you on the edge of your seat..

The start of One More Kill gave me chills. Despite the grisly nature of the scene, I quickly slipped into the story. On arriving at the scene, Jack, the leader of Brandon’s team, discovered that this was the work of the Leopard. The Leopard is the serial killer he had been hunting for the past twenty-five years. Known as the leopard for the manner in which he hunts his victims, he plans to continue his killing spree. This is Jack’s last chance to capture the killer who eluded him for so long.

What made this case so unique was the Leopard’s uncanny ability to charm his victims and winning their trust before striking. Also, the constant changing of his appearance made it easy for him to be always one step ahead of law enforcement. The scary thing about this killer is the fact he hunts and kills for the pleasure it brings him.

Although this is the Brandon Fisher series, the story focused on Jack. We see how he struggled with his failure to capture the Leopard. He faces his biggest challenge when he found himself in the Leopard’s crosshairs. Added to this, he faced the prospect of his career ending if he failed to put an end to the reign of terror. Failure was definitely not an option.

One More Kill took me on a suspenseful cat-and-mouse chase. The story moved quickly. However, there were moments when the pace slowed, to accommodate the research needed to dig into the Leopard’s past and determine his next move.

Overall, One More Kill proved to be a gripping, nail biting and gritty read. Definitely not for the faint of heart. I had a good time reconnecting with the characters and look forward to their next chilling investigation. A must read for fans of gritty police procedurals.

TERRIFIC police procedural, well written with likable characters keeping the suspense high throughout. The demise of the serial killer was too quick to feel much satisfaction since he derived such pleasure in the torture of his victims, but totally enjoy this author & RECOMMEND fully. Thanks to Hibbert & Stiles Publishing & NetGalley for this ARC in return for my honest review.

Disclosure. This post is a review of an ebook I was sent for free. All opinions are my own.

This is book 9 in the Brandon Fisher FBI series, but also works well as a stand-alone read. I’ve been following this series since book 6 but haven’t read the earlier titles yet.

The story starts with the gruesome killing of a couple Mark and Stephanie Duran in rural Arkansas. The FBI team from the Behavioural Anaylsis Unit of Brandon, Jack, Paige and Kelly are called in to investigate. Jack recognises this as being the work of an elusive serial killer, nicknamed the Leopard, who seems to have been dormant for 15 years. Why?

Plus this time the killer has deviated from his usual patterns? Again why?

And then things get even more personal as the killer changes tactics and leaves them a note.

Wow. This gripping page turner had me on the edge of my seat. Highly recommended.

One More Kill by Carolyn Arnold chronicles the FBI team searching for a serial killer who tortures his victims before they die. He had been killing very five years, but now it had been fifteen. The leader of the team, Jack Harper, had been on the team who investigated the original killings 25 years earlier and he was somewhat obsessed, so he and his team, Brandon, Kelly, and Paige, set off. Armed with his prior knowledge they were an effective investigative group and soon were following leads rather than shooting in the dark. But it became personal for the killer as well as Jack and he left him a message.

Lots going on with the team. Paige and Brandon had ha d short affair years earlier, but Brandon had been married. He was now divorced but involved with another woman. Their timing had never been right. It made it difficult for Paige sometimes, but she managed. Kelly was a novice. She was the granddaughter of an old friend of Jack's and was proving to be quite talented. Jack had let his career ruin his marriage and his relationship with his son, but he was now working on getting to know his son. He was contemplating retirement. Maybe when this was over. A brilliant plot and an excellent book. These main characters, and even the murderer were given well-rounded personalities, so that the reader is bound into their stories. Thrilling, on-the-edge-of-your-seat scenes as well as compelling friendships make this a must-read thriller. I recommend.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of One More Kill by Hibbert and Stiles, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #hibbertandstiles# #carolynarnold #onemorekill

The first chapter was so gruesome and violent I almost gave up on it but so glad I didn’t. Good pacing and action packed as the FBI team hunted the serial killer. Not sure if it was because this was my first read in the Brandon Fisher series, but Jack seemed to stand out more than Brandon. I’m sure that the other books in the series would have given the characters more dimension for me as I found them a bit flat. Enjoyed the cat and mouse nature of the chase and the speed with which the lead helped them track The Leopard down. An enjoyable read. Many thanks to Carolyn Arnold, Hibbert & Stiles Publising, Inc., and NetGalley for affording me the opportunity to read an arc of this book, being published today.

The hunt for a serial killer gets up close and personal for FBI Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper and his team from the BAU in this latest thriller in the Brandon Fisher series from Carolyn Arnold. I enjoy a good police procedural and this book checks off all the points making it just that. This is the first of the Brandon Fisher series that I've read, but I had no problem understanding what was going on and how everyone is related to each other. Jack leads a 4 person team...himself, Brandon, Paige and new agent Kelly. Character development is always huge for me. Each person in this book is a well defined, important part of the story. It takes awhile to set the stage, and to figure out who the killer is...but once his identity is discovered the action is non-stop. I fully enjoyed this book and I plan on going back and reading more of the series.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book that I've read in this series and although Brandon is meant to be the main character, for me it felt more like his boss, Jack Harper, was the main focus of the book. Throughout the book, the team is looking for a serial killer who was dormant for 15 years but has resurfaced. We get a good look at the dynamics of the team as they work to piece together clues that may lead them to the killer, the Leopard. Jack has a vested interest in finding and stopping the Leopard since this was his first case as a FBI agent. The team meets often to discuss what they've found and determine the next steps to be taken. It turns out that the assumed reason for the killings was wrong and once the pieces start falling into place, the ending comes quickly. It was unclear why Manning was pulled from the team and then toward the end he was reinserted. Overall, a complex thriller with many twists.

I was absolutely hooked from that first gory chapter. It started with a bang and didn't let up.

I didn't realise this was book 9 in the series but I was able to enjoy it without reading the earlier books. That said I now want to read them all.

The plot was fast paced with plenty of action to keep the pages turning.

One More Kill is scheduled for an October 19,2021 release

The Final Showdown

After being dormant for over a decade, The Leopard is back on the hunt. The serial killer who terrorized rural communities’ decades earlier, known for his ability to blend into his surroundings and take his victims unaware has returned to hunt once more. For Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper, the Leopard is a stain on his otherwise successful FBI career. As his first ever case, it was the one he couldn’t close and the one that got away. Now that the Leopard is on the prowl again it’s personal as Jack, Brandon, and Paige head out to Arkansas to track down the elusive predator. But as the clues start to fall into place, and the man behind the Leopard begins to materialize Jack realizes that this hunt is personal to the Leopard as well. As the team draws closer, the Leopard sets his sights on the thing that is most precious to Jack. When the Alpha Predator meets the person who has been hunting him for decades, will finally be able to nab the one that got away, or will he lose everything in the process?

One More Kill by International Best Selling author Carolyn Arnold is the 9th in the Brandon Fisher FBI series and is the tensest of the installments that I have read in this series to date. Arnold introduces us to “The Leopard” a chameleon of a killer who completely infiltrates his victim’s lives, gaining their trust before hunting them down and gutting them all while watching, and reveling as they take their final breath. Of all the serial killer books I have read, I do not believe I have encountered a killer quite like The Leopard whose methods are so brutal and so unique that it will make you shudder with trepidation the next time you enter a Dick’s Sporting Goods store. In the character of The Leopard, Arnold eerily illustrates the concepts of “not all murders use guns” and “you never truly know who someone is”. While One More Kill is listed as part of the Brandon Fisher series and he is part of the book, the real star is Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper. Faced with his biggest failure, Harper is determined to catch the Leopard and close the decades old case even if it means putting his entire career on the line to do it.

As will all prior titles and series that Arnold has written, One More Kill can be read either as part of the larger story or stand alone. While there are mentions to other books in this series as well as also a brief mention to the Detective Amanda Steele sister series the plot does not hinge on knowing the entire series of events to date. I like this approach as the entire series could feasibly be read out of order and still enjoyed just as much as if the books were sequentially read. With One Last Kill, Arnold continues to solidify her trademark tagline with yet another thrilling read.

Genuinely had white knuckles as I read this! The pace is fast and the characters are so engaging that you will find your adrenaline pumping right along with theirs. A perfect book for people who like a lot of action.

The beginning of this ninth Brandon Fisher FBI book took my breath away with the explicit chase and death scene of a husband and wife (maybe a little too graphic for me, but the killer gets his “thrill” from the hunt and kill). The case reminds Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper of a case he investigated years ago. It seems that the serial killer, who called himself “the Leopard”, is back and even more dangerous. Jack, along with Brandon, Paige, Kelly and others in the FBI, slowly learn how the killer is getting close to his victims and his possible “reasons” for the kill. When the search becomes even more personal for Jack, he will do whatever necessary to end “the Leopard”, even if means sacrificing his own life. A thrilling crime novel and police procedural as they use all resources to learn the killer’s identity while surviving his attacks on their team. This author never disappoints and this book was great. My issue, and only mine, is that I hadn't read the other books in the series so it took me a while to get into all the characters as there were so many. But once I got that all sorted in my head and went with the flow it was really good and it was a one session read it was that much of a page turner.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Fans of the television show Criminal Minds will like this FBI series. For readers wanting more details about the chatacters in this BAU (Behavior Analysis Group) will need to read the first eight books in this series. Recommended to readers who enjoy FBI thrillers.

Wowzers! This book starts off with ‘thrill of the chase’ and just keeps you enthralled the entire read! I hated putting this book down at night, but if I didn’t, I wouldn’t get any sleep! I wanted to keep reading. I wanted to know what the suspect was going to do next; what the team was going to do; what clues were being left; and where the suspect would make the one tiny mistake that would lead us right to them.

Literally, from the very first page, the thrill, the action, the suspense grabbed you by the collar and pulled you right in. I was engrossed in the case and could not – would not – give up until we had something, anything. One More Kill was a non-stop mystery.

Working the case with Brandon, Jack, Kelly and Paige; I felt like I was right there with them, sorting out the clues, the past cases, the current cases, trying to think of ways to catch our suspect, waiting for the mistake that would reveal who they were and what was coming. I felt their emotion – the anger, the stress, the worry, the adrenaline, the frustration.

I have read previous Brandon Fisher books, but have clearly missed a few in between the last one I read and this current one, but I can confidently say that had absolutely zero effect on my ability to read, follow, and enjoy One More Kill. I know I missed something big from the last book (and will definitely be going back to read it) but it did not detract from One More Kill. I can confidently say that this is a stand alone book and one that is a must read.

One More Kill just may be the best thriller I have read this year!
