Thriller with a touch of creepy!
Special Agent Jack Harper is determined to catch a serial killer that is. back in action, after being dormant for 15 years. Back then, Jack was never able to put the pieces together, but the killer has made this personal for Jack. Can Jack keep his emotions in check, keep his job, and find the killer before more innocent people die?
This was a little gruesome, filled with action, emotions, and kept me turning the page from start to finish. Highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
One more kill is book 9 in the Jack Fisher series.
Publication date 19th October 2021
Jack and his team are called to a double homicide of q husband and wife. Unsure why they've been called as they normally only handle serial killer's, Jack is met with the discovery that the killer he's been hunting for the last 25 years is back and he has no plan on stopping. The leopard as he is known has been the centre of Jacks nightmares for years he will not rest until he catches him. .
I love Carolyn Arnold I'm a huge fan of her detective steele series so ofcourse wanted to read one more kill turns out it'd book 9 in a very good series this also means I have 8 books added to my tbr list 🤦🏾♀️but honestly I don't think I could of picked a better one to been thrown into. This book is so heavily focused around Jack and his desire and guilt around apprehending this killer that I learnt loads about him and the team. Although as with all series books I highly recommend starting from book 1!
Each of the characters brought something different to the table and this really added to the feel of the book. With chapters bring narrated in first person and switching POV made it so easy to get drawn in to each person. There were a few and I must say I liked Jack the best but there wasn't much in it honestly. I think as Jack and his emotions were key to the case it was obvious that you would route for him especially nearer the end although I must say I felt like one chapter was missing. That may be the only reason I don't give this book 5 stars I like things to end rounded up and we don't get that here.
Carolyn Arnold really knows how to write in a way that has you hooked from the beginning the victims missing their eyes was that hook for me! The prose is so inviting and I felt like I was part of the team not just a reader. Plus a few words used in crime novels were explained like unsub for a while I've wondered what it meant but worked off an assumption which was correct but was great to have it clarified! This is why I love her writing. Plus she managed to inject humour in some very unfunny chapters and that is a gift.
The story line was fascinating a serial killer who hunts their victims, uses a bow and arrow and takes them apart stealing their eyes. Like why the eyes? We ofcourse find this all out we also get chapters in the first person by the killer! I had zero idea who did it or why and I love it when there's no obvious hint when reading although that didn't stop me guessing every man and his son was guilty.
So would I recommend one more kill?
Yes ofcourse I would its crime,, thriller, psychological and more. Each character has depth and we get to read this throughout. Plus there were so many twists I couldn't read it quickly enough. I loved this book and cannot wait to have some downtime to read all 8 prior. Rate this 4 stars purely because I felt the action chapter was a tad abrupt.
Thank you to netgalley , Carolyn Arnold and Hibbert and Stiles publishers for the advanced digital copy of one more kill in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
The Hunter is about to become the hunted. 'Jack &his team are on a new case that he needs them to solve as it is the case that has always haunted him. The killer is a master of disguise that blends in without anyone really noticing him. The team starts digging into the latest victim's life's and they are hoping to find the killer. Jack knows that he is on thin ice and he needs to think more clearly before he loses everything. The team know that he is under pressure so they push even harder to find answers but can they find the killer before he strikes again? The killer knows that the FBI are going to be a problem so he will need to teach them a lesson. One that will almost push Jack over the edge. Will they be able to find out who the killer is before someone else does? A great solid read. I love all the characters especially Brandon as he has grown so much and he still is trying to fight his feelings for Paige. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
When husband and wife are found killed with their eyes cut out, FBI agents Fisher and Harper are called in. Fisher recognises the work of the killer as The Leopard who has been active for decades. Time is ticking as The Leopard is now making this personal and Fisher needs to solve the identity of the killer before its too late.
A truly gripping book that you can’t put down. Even reading mid series, you can easily read this book without missing the character background story. 5 stars.
Good read especially around Halloween. Kinda creeped me put in a good way. Recommendation is high on this one. Will be a special treat
Special agent Jack Harper and his team are on the hunt for the elusive serial killer, 'the leopard'. For Jack, this case is personal. Years ago he failed to catch the sadistic killer, and the deaths of the innocent victims weighs heavily on him. Furthermore, the high-ups at the Bureau have lost faith in Jack. Has Jack lost faith in himself? With a crack team of dedicated agents can he catch the killer who is escalating in violence? This is a pulsating thriller, and the author really knows her stuff. Highly recommended.
Where has this series been!! This is book 9 and the first I read. Brandon Fisher is part of an FBI team, and in this book they are chasing down “the Leopard”. Secrets are hidden in the eyes, or the eyes the widows of the soul … “the Leopord” leaves behind yellow cat eye marbles. He has been dormant for 15 years, but is back, and this time it becomes personal for a team member.
This was a page turner from the very start!
Thank you NetGalley and Hibber & Stiles Publishing Inc. for an early read of this book.

A couple found shot with an arrow, gutted, and left to bleed out eyes replaced with yellow cat's eye marbles. Jack Harper, BAU, recognises the MO and realises this killer, nicknamed The Leopard, has struck many times before.
The Leopard suddenly changes his method of murder and is killing more frequently. The story reaches another level when the killer makes things personal by taking Jack's son. Can the FBI save him?
This is the ninth in the Brandon Fisher FBI series; it is the first one I have read. It features a team from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) pursing a particularly brutal, depraved serial killer. The point of view of the narration changed from chapter to chapter and, although I have read many other books that use this technique, it took some getting used to in this story.
There is good character development and, although it works well as a standalone, having read some of the prior novels might have given more information about the team.
This book reminded me of a plot from a TV show, an opening with a depraved killer murdering two people in woods. The investigation is conducted by the FBI Behaviour Analysis Unit, I liked the Arkansas setting and the descriptions, although Brandon's character felt a bit flat, perhaps it was the narration style by Brandon but it just didn't work for me. The portrayal of the killer was good, it was intense and the story flowed well. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
I received an ARC through the "NetGalley" program.
This story begins with the murder of two individuals by a serial killer. Brandon and the rest of the team are in Quantico where they are under a new supervisor, Manning, who is quite different than Jack. Jack has been relieved based on what occurred in their previous case. The team is given this new case and Jack is put in charge once more. The team embarks for Arkansas to begin their pursuit of the culprit.
Brandon and the rest of the group has learn that this serial killer was first sought by Jack when he 1st started with the FBI. Evidence at the scene was lacking because the killer was quite adept at leaving no clues. This killer had previous had an M.O. where he killed every five years In this instance, it had been 15 years since the last murder. As time went by, he killed another person and used an M.O. that was completely different. The team was able to locate where the suspect was staying. When they arrived at this location an incident happened which was unexpected.
Based on he discovery of an victim that had survived an earlier attacked, they discovered the killer's real name and started a new search. The killer was so bold, that he left a note for Jack which changed the whole complexion of their search.
To discover the significance of the note, who the killer was and why he was killing the individuals, then you must read this book, you won't be disappointed.
Another thriller in the Brandon Fisher series from Carolyn Arnold. Although I have read many of her books this one could easily be read as a stand alone novel. TheFBI are searching for a serial killer known as ‘The Leopard’ who has been at large for 25 years. He literally hunts his prey with a crossbow and arrow before torturing them and replacing their eyes with cat’s eyes marbles. As the FBI head to Arkansas they are struggling with no clues and the killer seems to be escalating in this action packed book.. I enjoy police procedural stories and this one didn’t disappoint.
This is a Brandon Fisher Special Agent for the FBI book. A serial killer is back at work after a long dry spell. Jack Harper Brandon’s boss worked on one of the first cases of this demented killer. He always felt it was his failure when he didn't catch him years, ago. He vows this time he won't fail. The behavioral analysis team works well together but Jack seems too emotional on this one. While working all the leads they can, Jack becomes the target prey now. This killer likes to torment those he targets and goes after what they hold dearest. Jack can't let that happen. His team now must keep him alive.
I haven't read the prequels to this series so I don't know the characters well, I felt Brandon didn't have much involvement in this book which could be normal, and Jack was not the best leader. Jack's career is on the downslide and he didn't do himself any favors in how he acted and reacted to searching for this killer. He made them put him in charge, but they had conditions, and he isn't fulfilling them. He could destroy his career, but he wasn't letting this killer get away again and he wasn't losing any more people to him.
Lots of action, the story is told by multiple characters including the killer. Keeps your interest and is fast-moving. The team seems complicated in their interrelationships. It's worth your read if this is your genre. I like serial killer stories. Thank you NetGalley, Hibbert & Stiles. Publishers and of course Carolyn Arnold an excellent storyteller, for this eARC, this is my honest opinion I think you'd enjoy this book.
One More Kill by Carolyn Arnold brings depravity, action, and pulse-pounding moments to a gripping crime thriller and police procedural. The setting is mainly in and around Huntsville, Arkansas and is the ninth book in the Brandon Fisher FBI series. The book is told from multiple points of view but the transitions are smooth and don’t detract from the story. Instead they allow the reader to get greater insights into the characters. The bodies of a husband and wife have been found in a patch of woods in rural Arkansas by a neighboring farmer. The murder method is like that of the first case that Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper saw as a rookie FBI agent. Brandon and Jack along with the rest of the field team, Paige Dawson and Kelly Marsh, head to Arkansas to find the serial killer before he disappears again while analyst Nadia Webber stays at headquarters to provide support.
Readers get great insight into the characters of Brandon, Jack, and Paige as well as learning how the killer thinks. While the FBI agents are intelligent, fit, and fast thinking, they also have flaws and struggles that make them seem realistic. Their working relationships and interactions with each other and the secondary characters provide additional insight into their personalities. The other supporting characters provide additional conflict or support. While they don’t have the depth of the main characters, the level was appropriate for their roles in the story.
The novel starts with a vivid and brutal chase scene that immediately pulls the reader into the lives of the characters. The author does a great job of showing the dark and gritty reality of a serial killer at work and the devastation one leaves behind as they move on to the next victim. The plot is suspenseful, full of anticipation of identifying and stopping the killer, and interspersed with some riveting action. The story flowed well and the transitions between points of view worked well. Who is the killer? Why does he kill? Is it even possible to discover the killer who leaves behind no DNA and is a skilled actor who can get close to people and earn their trust? Themes include murder, relationships, infidelity, secrets, corruption, and more.
Overall this novel was gripping, engaging, and atmospheric as well as being very alarming in places. This is the third book that I have read by this author, but the first I’ve read in this series. I can’t wait to find out what is next for Brandon and his team. I recommend this to those that like dark and gritty police procedurals and serial killer thrillers.

I absolutely loved this book. A very interesting plot and the same can be said for the characters. I found this hard to put down especially as it got towards the end. Highly enjoyed it.
Brandon Fisher works for the FBI. The team he works with get a case in Arkansas. The two victims, a husband and wife, have been murdered and mutilated. When Brandon's boss, Jack Harper, hears and sees the evidence, he is stunned--he first saw this same evidence on his first case twenty five years ago. And this time Jack vows the team will end this monster.
The Leopard is a serial killer hunting down couples with a bow and arrows. The FBI are brought into help investigate the latest murders in Arkansas. Supervisory SA Jack Harper realises that it is someone he’s been trying to track down for years. He and his team struggle to find out how and why he is choosing his victims - is it because they have secrets or is there another reason? Brandon, Paige and the team uncover new clues to the killer’s identity and the reasons behind his killing spree.
‘Criminal Minds’ tv series comes to mind. Well written, fast paced with an explosive end.

I am hopelessly addicted To crime fiction. One More Kill is a diabolical read about a predator, the Leopard, who toys with his prey, leaps on them, and maims them as they expire. It will bring chills to you as you read. I like reading all the detective work to uncover clues about the killer. I liked the location Of Arkansas. Carolyn Arnold authors several series I’m addicted to.
