I love this series, and was so excited to get a chance to preview the lastest book! The patterns are clearly explained and easy to read. It's so much fun to make the snarky wall hangings and pillows, the perfect way to bring Grandma's cross stitch lessons into my modern, raunchy sense of humor.
Super Subversive Cross Stitch by Julie Jackson is prefect for the modern, beginning cross stitch artist. The patterns are easy to make and walk readers through step by step instruction. It's probably not your grandmother's type of cross stitch book, but if it is, you are in good company.
Loved this! So much fun, and easy to follow instructions. I'm happy to see a surge in these irreverent titles lately, and I look forward to many more!
This is full of hilarious patterns. They are quite simple so this is perfect for beginners! If you are more experienced, this is still funny but may be too simple if you are looking for something more advanced. Thank you NetGalley!
Super fun patterns. I don't know how to cross stitch, but this makes me want to learn how! The directions seem manageable and the patterns don't appear to be overly difficult,. Looking forward to trying these out!
Fantastic! As a crafter, I am always looking for great books to suggest to my customers instead of the same old boring ones. This does the trick!
I loved this book, so much so that it was immediately added to my wishlist. The lettering guide in the back will be well used and the patterns in the book were a lot of fun!!
I’ve been cross stitching for a couple of years now, and subversive patterns are always fun. Here you’ll find 50 subversive patterns in addition to charts and different tips on how to customize each pattern. My favorite pattern in the book is, “SPARK JOY OR GET OUT,” but there’s so many great patterns here. Each chart is also easy to follow for new and experienced cross stitchers alike.
The opening of the book covers the basics on how to cross stitch including what supplies you’ll need and how to separate your floss. There’s even an explanation on what the different types of fabric counts are and what differences you’ll see between them. I think the entire opening is great for anyone new to cross stitching because it’s very informative, simple to follow, and not overwhelming in any way.
Plus, there’s tips on making your own patterns at the end, including the name of a computer program one can use to design patterns: PCStitch. There’s different programs out there, including free chart makers, but I also use PCStitch so I’m down with this recommendation. All in all, this is a great book and I want to check out Julie’s other patterns in the future.
I would like to thank netgalley and Sasquatch Books for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute designs, and I liked that the pallet was so simple. Could have done without the inclusion of the Ma****t At***d quote.
Fun, funny and perfect for my crafting plans - can't wait to make some of these snarky designs and gift them or hang them in my office :) I liked the section at the end where Jackson explains how to make your own designs, and then includes templates for letters and embellishments.
Absolutely perfect! The patterns are fun (and funny!) and easy to follow. I see myself making lots of gifts for myself and others with this book! Perfectly snarky in every way.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Lmfao loved this book, this actually makes me really want to start cross stitching! next time i want to pick up a new hobby i just might buy this!
This little book of cross stitch patterns is so fun! If you’re looking for a pattern that’s just slightly out of bounds, this is it. Patterns are clear and simple and laugh-out-loud entertaining.
I absolutely loved this book and it really made me want to make every single one of these cross-stitches and gift them to my friends and family.
A good book to use to add some creative touches and words to your craft. As an avid cross stitcher it was a welcome addition to the pack of charts you can normally find.
Not bad for newbies however I found that the patterns were overly simplistic for more experienced stitchers. The designs themselves were slightly corny as well in my personal opinion, however that is just my own subjective opinion!
Hilarious and great little book for those with a love of cross stitching. My favourite part were the letter fonts at the back of the book which you can use to make your own patterns. There’s something for everyone in here and the patterns are easy to follow.
Super Subversive Cross Stitch: 50 Fresh as F*ck Designs by Julie Jackson offers crafters snarky inspirations they. The book features 50 patterns (23 brand-new designs and 27 fan favorites) along with easy-to-follow instructions for the beginner and fonts and designs for adventurous crafters looking to customize their creations. It recasts a traditional, dare we say "sentimental," craft into a modern, relevant art form. It's the latest offering in the Subversive Cross Stitch brand, beloved by legions of DIYers. Less messy than graffiti, Super Subversive Cross Stitch allows crafters to adorn walls with political pith and irreverent twists on classic quotes ("I think, therefore I drink," "Let the good times be gin").
Super Subversive Cross Stitch is not for the prim and proper crafter, and I do not recommend gifting any of these creations to those that you do not know well, or would not enjoy the humor. I thought the chosen designs offered a good selection of what one would expect from this author and what the title promises. I thought the grids, instructions, and information on techniques were all well done, easy to understand, and entertaining in their own right. Most importantly I thought the author's encouragement to try new things and embrace mistakes made this book even better. The support and tools to try and create this designs and more, create your own and explore options and your own creativity could be the difference between someone trying something new and sticking with it and them giving up after a few mistakes think they just cannot be good at this. I really appreciated the tone, encouragement, and creativity in this book. While I might not be making these to give away for the holidays, I will be keeping some of these in reserve for the perfect moment and right recipient.
This book is a sassy collection of cross stitch patterns. There are quite a few patterns that contain expletives, and also they provide alternative words if the curse words aren't for you or the person you are cross stitching for.
This book is such a delight! The patterns are fun and easy to understand and the introduction to cross stitching at the beginning is both informative and rather sassy. My favourite bit, weirdly, is not the patterns themselves (although they are such fun) but Julie Jackson's inclusion of alphabets and borders at the end so that people can make their own patterns and visualise how that process works! The book includes both instructions and pictures of how the pieces look when finished-- so you know that all the patterns have been tried and aren't just patterns made on software that no one bothered to check if they worked. My favourite pattern is probably "Let me Google that for you' as it is both a pointed remark but also features lovely book spines that make a rather amusing juxtaposition.
These patterns are fairly simple to do so if you're looking for a pattern to toil on for 100 hours and learn new skills these are not that, but they are fun and sweary!
