A huge fan of cross-stitch, I was really excited to check this one out. I remember when the original Subversive Cross Stitch was published and what a hit it was among my crafting friends! This one did not disappoint, as I feel it's equally as fun and quirky! I love the sentiments, especially as many of them I find myself uttering on a daily basis. These designs are perfect for almost any situation, as Julie Jackson includes directions on how to alter the lettering to make them a little more work and family-friendly, if needed. Personally, I love them as is, but it's thoughtful for her to include additional instructions for those of us whose mouths may not be quite as colorful. I also love the way Jackson makes crafting more approachable and open to everyone. I can't count the number of times I've had friends and family members look at my crafting creations and say, "Oh, this is so cute! I wish I could do that!" Jackson encourages people to try their hand at cross-stitch, even if they perceive themselves as "not crafty" or they have no stitching experience. She reminds us not to take it too seriously, as it's supposed to be for fun. She even encourages us to make mistakes. I mean, really who cares? It's all about having fun!

This one comes out November 2, 2021 and I will definitely be picking up a copy to get started on holiday gifts. I encourage you to do the same!

Fun book of sweary or just sarcastic cross stitch patterns. There are also nice borders and motifs in here. The book starts with some good background info on cross stitching - tools, how to, etc. This is a great book for people who are interested in cross stitching but want a different feel to their projects.

This isn’t your grandma’s cross-stitch! “Super Subversive Cross Stitch” contains 50 cheeky patterns for a new generation to get their craft on in a sweary, irreverent way.

Cross-stitch is an amazing way to decompress – meditative but also stabby, and you have a beautiful creation at the end of it all – and this is the perfect book to help you express yourself through embroidery. Full of amusing sayings from “what fresh hell is this” and “not today satan,” to “what the actual f#$%,” stitchers are sure to find a snarky phrase that resonates.

There’s an informative and engaging introduction with info on floss, fabric, needles, and other tools, plus a little tutorial on how to cross-stitch. These patterns are super accessible for newer stitchers, containing full cross-stitches and backstitching only, no complex fancy stitches. All of the patterns are based around a limited color palette of around 10 shades, so grab yourself a few skeins of floss and some 14-count Aida cloth, and you’re good to go.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an advance copy of this book.

This is the most fun I've had with cross-stitch in years.
This book is the ultimate guide for anyone who wants to get their feelings out there by stabbing them into a piece of fabric thousands of times over. It offers complete instruction on the methods and materials, so it's good for beginners too. Each of the patterns is fun, some making me laugh out loud as I turn the page, and would make excellent gifts for some people in my life. But the best part is the DIY section: everything you need to create your own patterns! Multiple alphabets and fun borders - I'm set for years!

This book is full of useful information for the beginning cross-stitcher and easy to stitch patterns. I love all the snarky sarcastic sayings contrasted with classic cross-stitch sampler borders.
I received an advance reader copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.

This was an okay book. I didn’t feel it gave anything that other stitch books don’t already give. There was two designs I was interested in. The rest felt basic.

A collection of great and humorous patterns for the home, workplace, or gifts. Includes everything you need to know if you're new to cross stitching. The only problem now, is choosing which project to complete first.

I fell in LOVE with Julie Jackson's first book after finding it in the U Make It section of my county library. This one though is so for today's crowd! With plenty of motivational variables, it's 5 o'clock somewhere's, and accept me as I am or go away stitch patterns you wont be bored!

It's fun, funny, and crass and I enjoy these patterns so much.

Super Subversive Cross Stitch is a wryly tongue in cheek collection of snarky and appealing designs by Julie Jackson. Due out 2nd Nov 2021 from Sasquatch Books, it's 128 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a fun collection full of appealing and uncensored sentiments for decorating and (potentially) gift-giving to like minded friends. The author has a humorous, nerdy, tongue in cheek style that is definitely not 'grandma's cross stitch' but is good hearted and honest. There's a fair bit of current culturally relevant commentary and meme-referencing from Ace Ventura to anonymous internet witticisms. All of the designs can easily be changed to suit personal preferences (in fact, the author explains that that was the genesis of Subersive Cross stitch - she bought a traditional cross stitch kit for some "art therapy" at a difficult point in her life and changed the sentiment to a pithy and rugged four letter word and found it truly therapeutic and it grew from there).

This would be a good starting book or gift for someone who was interested in learning the basics of cross stitch and finishing some fun gifts for themselves or friends. The first chapter provides a short but useful introduction to materials and supplies. She discusses needles, fabrics, thread counts, embroidery floss, hoops, etc. The photos are full colour and clear and the instructions are easy to follow. One of the more useful introductory segments is a short guide to personal style and altering patterns to taste. She has a lot of good ideas (there *are* no rules, follow your impulses).

The patterns themselves are arranged somewhat thematically: holidays, a world gone mad, self-help, cocktail corner, gifts, and work. The patterns are provided with stitch counts, approximate design size (in & cm), and recommended colors given with DMC numbers. The borders are very simple and most of these projects won't take long to complete and are well suited to small, last minute gifts.

Four stars. Full of humor and lalochezia. This would be a good choice for the stitcher's home library, public library acquisition, or gift giving.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

A delightful and fun new look to cross stitching. You can follow the designs in the book or strike out on your own as Jackson shows you how to create both.

A collection of some of the best irreverent cross stitch by Julie Jackson. The book starts with a rundown on how to cross stitch (a good primer for those who are new to the craft), and ends with alphabets and border patterns that readers can use to create their own cross stitch creations! A must-have for libraries or individuals who are crafty AND sassy.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun book!

The patterns are fun and interesting and there's a few I plan on making as gifts. There are pictures of the finished pattern and then the pattern including the different colors used.

It's a fun little book with some unique ideas.

Super Subversive Cross Stitch is a fan, sassy book of patterns for both newbie and experienced stitchers. The book opens up with a list of recommended materials to get you started and also illustrations on basic stitches. The photographs and illustrations are clear and well focused, but the author also includes a link to her website if learning from videos is more your style. The patterns themselves are all rather simple, though some do offer some advanced and different techniques if you’d like to give them a try. The patterns themself range from holiday to work related to political, and they even include some you may want to gift to (Squirrelfriends might be my favorite pattern in the whole book).

I appreciated that most patterns only use a handful of floss colors. Some crafts require quite an investment in materials (knitting I’m looking at you), so I love how this isn’t too cost prohibitive for people. The author also recommends DMC floss, which is readily available at big box stores, so you should have no problem finding the recommended colors. The last section of the book is about creating your own patterns, including different fonts and banners, which I thought was a great addition. You can tell that the author is really passionate about cross stitching and helping others build their skills up.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for this advanced copy. I can’t wait to get stitching and will definitely be recommending this to my fellow crafty friends.

There is quite a large range of patterns in this fun, pattern book. I also love how there is a section of alphabet and border designs at the back so readers can design their own pattern to fit their needs. My favorite pattern, being a librarian, is the LMGTFY (Let Me Google That For You) with the shelf of books. I also love "What Fresh Hell is This." I can't wait to make some of these hilarious patterns for my fellow snarky friends for Christmas. What better way to take out aggression and relieve stress than to stab something thousands of times with a tiny needle, eh? Thank you for allowing me to take a sneak peek at this book. I love it!

Pros: This book was completely delightful. I loved the author’s introduction and explanation of the creative, meditative practice of cross stitching. I think this book is very accessible to new stitchers. The patterns provided in this book are just as subversive as advertised. My favorites were “if you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention” and “nope.” I also love how the book encourages readers to create their own patterns and provides guides to do so.

Cons: This isn’t a con but a note to new stitchers: although this book does a great job explaining how to cross stitch, I recommend watching a few how to videos when getting started.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for the opportunity to read this book!

This is fantastic! As a newer cross-stitcher, all of these seem attainable and frankly awesome! Hopefully I can get some time to attempt some before my epub expires.

Jackson's second cross stitch book has fifty new designs which are just as funny and fresh (and I do mean naughty-fresh) as the first book. There are not as many of these that I'm jumping up to stitch, but I think a couple of the snarky office designs would make a nice gift for my husband's home office- and Let the good times be gin is just right for our home bar! Happy stitching. With more profanity in the pattern than in the doing, I hope!

Super Subversive Cross Stitch is a pattern book with a twist. There are 50 patterns all based around captions , quotes and sayings. It is not for the easily offended !! and is full of tongue in cheek wit and humour with a touch of naughty language. The instructions are easy to follow and the book is well illustrated. Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to cross stitch with a twist.
