I am an entrepreneur with a couple of small side gigs and I went to business school, so I definitely was happy when I was selected for the ARC! I've also been a long time fan of Carly (back when her URL was still The College Prepster!).
I enjoyed this book, even with a business school background. My favorite part was highlighting the different women entrepreneurs. It was awesome to see women chasing their dreams! The diversity of businesses was also appreciated - blogging is very interesting but I found a lot of value from some of the more retail focused experts. I also enjoyed a lot of the advice that regular business books don't give you, such as burnout and working on accounting. I cannot tell you how helpful the financial piece would have been when I started my Etsy business.
Because I had gone to business school, I didn't feel that this book really touched on a lot of new things for me. However, I could see this as a really useful guide for someone who didn't have this business background or maybe was a few years removed from the business world.
My only critique is that I wish the women businesses featured a bit more diversity in terms of women of color.
Now, I'm looking forward to digging in to some of the worksheets!
What an amazing book! Part advice, part workbook, this is a great guide for any hopeful entrepreneur to get started on starting their own business and following their dreams.
I've been a long time blog reader of Carly's, so I was very excited to read this! Carly does a fantastic job of promoting balance in Business Minded. When she started her business, hustling was a badge of honor. I'm so thankful that mindset is going out of fashion. Carly encourages being excited about your business, but never neglecting yourself.
This book is going to be so helpful to those who have ideas, but don't know where to start. She literally guides you through the entire process of starting a business from your great idea into a full fledged company. (All while taking care of yourself and not getting burnt out.)
I personally LOVED the interviews with real women entrepreneurs, as well as Carly's personal experience (and that of her mom!) The workbook pages and brainstorming sections are so helpful. I also appreciated the definitions of common business terms we might feel too shy to admit we don't know.
All in all, this is so well thought out and helpful!
