Murder at a Scottish Social was an enjoyable read. I did find the story slow going with a lot of emphasis on the pettiness of the four woman who made people's lives miserable. The main character is Paislee Shaw who owns the knitting shop, Cashmere Crush, She lives in Nairn, Scotland with her son and grandfather. She and her best friend, Lydia Barron who works for a Real Estate company have been invited by their new friend, Blaise O'Connor to share a vending table to sell their wares at the Social Club and Art Center for the Nairn Food Bank Fund-raiser. The supporting characters are each individuals who add to the story. Kirsten Buchanan who is allergic to peanuts is murdered by eating her shortbreads at the fundraiser dinner. Paislee decides to try to find out who murdered Kirsten as well as Hendrie, the Buchanan's chauffeur is also murdered. The story takes the reader on an adventure of who did it. There is a hint of romance for Paislee with Mark Zeffer, a Detective Inspector and Hamish McCall the principal at a private school. There is alsothe mystery of the whereabouts of her father who seems to have disappeared.
I did enjoy reading the story with the Scottish brogue.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corporation for this ARC.
If its possible I loved this one more than the first two books in the series. I just couldn't put it down I finished it in one day because I just had to know what was happening.
I've enjoyed the series so far, and this is a wonderful addition to it. Was a great read and a chance to reconnect with the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the gifted digital ARC.
Wonderful mystery. Though I am not a fan of the "mean girls" trope, I thought it was well written.
It is a contemporary mystery set in Scotland about a group of Mothers, including Ambitious mothers who want their children to succeed at all costs.
There is a murder with a slew of suspects.
I like knitter Paislee! I so enjoy how the author entwines Paislee's family and friend stuff with the mystery. She navigates relationships with Grandpa and Brody, cell phone decisions, friend troubles, community issues, and more in an engaging and entertaining way. In this case, I did feel like the mystery wasn't as strong as the life part of the novel. (It would rate 3-1/2 stars for me because of that.) The mean girls clique just doesn't do a whole lot for me personally, and there's so much of that. I find them hard to distinguish from each other. Still an enjoyable read, though!

Murder at a Scottish Social by Traci Hall is the third book in her lovely Scottish Shire Mystery series! Foul play lands at Paisley's feet during the charity auction. I was happy to reconnect with the characters and to see how Paisley Shaw gets to the bottom of this murder ---because--- as much as we despise mean girls, 'you can't just kill 'em'! The path to the murderer was twisted and fun to try and untangle I so enjoyed this book, and look forward to book four!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from #KensingtonPublishing through #NetGalley #MurderAtAScottishSocial. Opinions expressed in this review are my own. Thank you, Traci Hall, Kensington Books and NetGalley!

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Kensington Books and #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Enjoyable cozy mystery set in Scotland. It was harder for me to get into than others I’ve read but it was still a nice read.
Scotland, charity, pretentious, murder, murder-investigation, law-enforcement, amateur-sleuth, knitting, family, friendship, friction, rivalry, small-business, small-town, series*****
The victim was certainly a piece of work! But to be murdered by peanut anaphylaxis with neither of her Epi-Pens available? There was hope at first as our sleuth gave CPR and a Pen was retrieved from an office, but she died at hospital. Now the police detective and our sleuth do the due diligence in parallel to sort out all the suspects while the charity auction stumbles along. Loved it!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
I sort of enjoyed this cozy mystery. It's the second in a series, but I hadn't read or known about the first. The setting in Scotland and the MC were appealing, but I was put off a bit by the comments about counting calories and weight. This stuff is unnecessary and damaging to some readers. The murder mystery itself was okay, with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. That said, I needed more interesting or likeable characters and fun plot points to keep me interested--the tone was off. It just felt kind of flat, and everybody's lives seemed a bit too grim for this kind of book.
Paislee and her friends are taking part in a charity sale, but the central motif of the story is the relationships. Mean girls, class conflicts, and the nature of friendship all come up in multiple contexts -- including a shocking death at the charity show..
The mystery is well constructed and the characters well developed. The Scottish village of Nairn moves to life in the description, but everyone will be able to relate to the complex human connections.
I received this ARC via Netgalley and Kensington Books, in return for an honest review. While the third book in this series, it is easily read as a standalone. Set in Nairn, Scotland, Paislee Shaw owns the Cashmere Crush yarn shop. She also creates and sells unique yarn items, which allows her to support her young son and her grandfather. Along with Paislee’s best friend, Lydia, she's asked by a new friend, Blaise, to support a fundraiser sale and auction for the Nairn Food Bank. Since Lydia’s skills aren’t in the creative arts, she convinces her boss to donate a very expensive gaming system.
Things seem to be going well but Paislee and Lydia soon realize Blaize’s social circle of fellow female parents really leave something to be desired. Led by the viciously verbal “Queen Bee”, Kristin, the four women are rude and self-absorbed. Blaise looks forward to the upcoming end of the school year so her daughter’s transfer to the Nairn school makes a clean break from this nest of vipers. When Kristin dies of anaphylactic shock and the gaming system is stolen, the entire charity event goes off the rails. Events conspire for Paislee and Lydia to investigate the crime, to the dismay of the local police detective. Add several subplots, like the potential bullying of Paislee’s son by his former friends, and there is plenty to move the story along. I like this entry into this series. The characters continue to grow and there are several hints at mysteries within Paislee’s own family. This is a good addition to the cozy genre.
I thought this book was okay. I had a hard time getting into the characters. The killer was a surprise.#MurderataScottishSocial #NetGalley
Paislee Shaw lives in the small town of Nairn in Scotland, along with her son Brody and grandfather Angus. She owns Cashmere Crush, a yarn shop that supplies her with enough of a living to take care of the three of them. When she's asked by her new friend Blaise to help with the Nairn Food Bank, Paislee agrees, happy to help those less fortunate, by donating a rich cashmere sweater for auction, along with selling her own goods, with a portion of the sales going to the food bank. She's joined by her best friend Lydia, who has convinced her boss to donate a state-of-the-art item.
Blaise is worried about her entry into the cookie contest, because she's moving her child from Highland Academy, due to the woman who runs the social camp. When Paislee meets Kristin Buchanan, she feels her pointed barbs acutely, but manages to hold herself in check. After seeing what Kristin says to her "friends" Christina and Mari, and deliberate barbs to Blaise, she understands why Blaise wants to move her family elsewhere.
Kristin has won the contest ever since it began three years ago and has no doubts she will win again. But when she notices her cookies are plated differently, she pulls one of them from the wrapping and tastes it, immediately falling to the ground. When her husband Gerard is in distress, Paislee does what she can -- trying to give the woman CPR while the ambulance is called. But the police also arrive, and it's soon discovered that Kristin was murdered.
Paislee is determined to find out who killed Kristin, and why. There's no dearth of suspects, since Kristin's tongued-lashing was felt by everyone around her. Paislee also discovers that any one of them would have had a motive to do the woman in. Now she must depend upon her own instincts and the help of Lydia and Blaise to find out who killed Kirsten -- and if that person is going to kill again...
This is the third book in the series and I have read all of them. I do think that this one is the best, and it is certainly my favorite. I cannot say any more about the book, because it will give away the plot. I have said no more than what is in the blurb, but hopefully it will encourage others to read the book.
I do like the fact that Paislee has strong family feeling, and she is willing to work hard for everything she has. She also is becoming much fonder of Angus than in the previous books, and this is shown by her words and actions both. There are, of course, things I would like Paislee to change in her life, but I hope that eventually this will come about.
There are a couple of subplots that are also very interesting, and they added to the mystery instead of detracting from it. As to the mystery itself, it was completely enthralling, and the murderer was a surprise of itself. I did enjoy that immensely. Saying all that I have, I hope others will pick up this book. It is a very good mystery and worth the read. Highly recommended.
Paisley Shaw is a fantastic character that I am enjoying getting to know. Her grandfather Angus and son Brody weave their own unique personalities into the story, which makes it easy to stay engaged whole reading.
Owning her own yarn store is something she loves, and her love for knitting keeps her busy.
Paisley and her BFF Lydia find themselves outcasts among the rich and snooty. Participating in a fundraiser to help the food bank, the ladies find themselves among a group of shallow, egotistical women.
When one of the group is a victim of murder, Paisley and Lydia do their best to put the evil mastermind behind bars.
This is a wonderful story that will keep the reader guessing.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read this book.
Another awesome mystery by Traci Hall. Once I started reading I just could not put it down. The characters were great. I love Paislee and Lydia.
Paislee owns her own store and she always has her knitting handy. She attends a fundraiser to help the Nairn foodbank. At the fundraiser she meets some very snotty rick women who seem to only put everyone around them down.
One of the ladies ends up being murdered and of course, Paislee and her friends have to help try to figure out who did it. DI Zeffer isn't too happy that she is always in the thick of things.
A great book. Check it out.
This is the third book in the Scottish Shire Mystery series. An excellent addition. Series gets better and better. Love Paislee Shaw who runs a sweater and yarn shop. The story flows along with red herrings that keep you guessing. Well done Traci Hall!

Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Murder at the Scottish Social by Traci Hall in exchange for an honest review. Paislee Shaw runs the Cashmere Crush, her sweater and yarn shop. Her grandfather, Angus, helps her out in her shop in Nairn, Scotland. Paislee has taken a cashmere sweater set to donate to the Food Bank event. A lady dies from a peanut allergy. This was another fantastic book by Traci Hall. I loved reading about Paislee and her adventures. She seems to have a great yarn and sweater shop in Scotland.
Another good cozy mystery set in small town Scotland. I like that the relationship between Paislee and her grandpa has gotten stronger, and her good group of friends. When a "mean girl" gets killed at a social to raise money for a local food bank, she steps in to help gather clues and help to solve the case. Good characters, good story and good mystery. Highly recommend this author and series.
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
Perfect! The setting in ambiance in this series is absolutely phenomenal you couldn't ask for a better cozy or a better author.
Paislee Shaw had no idea how bad things are for some local families and gladly participates in a food drive event as both a donor and a vendor, When a woman in the baking contest goes into anaphylactic shock and dies after Paislee kept her alive with CPR until the EMTs could arrive, she finds more than just hunger is rampant in the area. Given that the woman was the queen bee of the top clique at a private school, no one expected her to be so cruel and mean to others.
With the dead woman’s private chef as the main suspect, Paislee doesn’t believe the man is guilty and vows to find out who did poison the woman. She just has to hope she doesn’t end up with the same ending as the woman…because that’s how the cookie crumbles when a murderer is involved.
This is a great series based in Scotland, as you can tell from the title. From the knitting to the tea and the Scottish Terrier Wallace, there’s nothing I don’t like about this series. My two Scotties say four paws up!
