Love this series, and this book did not disappoint.
Lucy Stone is a small town reporter, always ready to cover the next story. At home she is dealing with her daughter, Zoe's, problems and desire to move out into her own apartment.
While out visiting her friend, Mrs. TIlly, an elderly woman recovering at the Heritage House, Lucy finds herself entangled in another murder/mystery. This time an elder woman has gone missing, and no one from Heritage House can say where she is. The more Lucy digs, the more she realizes things are not what they seem at the facility.
I just adore the character of Lucy, and all her friends. Great book, plot flows so easily, and of course a nice surprise ending.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Leslie Meier is becoming one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. Her Lucy Stone character is such a colorful character full of love and wanting to make sure everyone is taken care of. In this twenty eight installment of the Lucy Stone mysteries we find Lucy a part time reporter and full time mother and wife in Tinker's Cove Maine.
Lucy is off to visit her old friend Miss Tilley at Heritage House since she has to continue her rehabilitation rather than her own home. Miss Tilley puts up a fight and finally gives in. Lucy not only visits her dear friend she also is sent there to report on the Easter Bonnet contest. Lucy finds out this contest is a real cut throat contest that has all the seniors in the facility wondering who will win, They also wonder if lasts years winner Agnes Neal will enter the contest
Lucy has covered many events at Heritage House in the past. Then she gets a frantic phone call from Agnes Neal's daughter Geri that her mom has been missing. Can she help her? How can Lucy say no. She also enlists her good friend Miss Tilley for help, only things get very sinister at Heritage House. Especially when Agnes Neal's body turns up in the stairwell. Lucy must find out the answer to what happened to Agnes, not only for her daughter Geri, but for the safety of all the seniors in the center.
This was such an easy read, which I read in one afternoon. There was not only a mystery of Agnes's death, to solve, there was also Medicare fraud, a secret that Agnes was keeping that was the reason she was killed, while Lucy faces the an empty nest once her daughter Zoe leaves for Portland. So much going on that you have to see how it ends.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the advanced copy. Thank you Leslie Meier for a great read.I wasn't disappointed and cannot wait for the next Lucy Stone Mystery.
Having read all of the Lucy Stone books over the years, I always look forward to the newest installment. Easter Bonnet Murder finds Lucy investigating a woman's disappearance from the Heritage House after Miss Tilly is sent there to recover from pneuomonia. At the same time, Lucy must find time to help Zoe figure out where she will live and how she will afford it once she moves to Boston while working in publicity for a baseball team.
I always enjoy the newest Lucy Stone mystery. My kiids have grown up over the years and I miss hers being featured like they used to be, but the passage of time makes the stories feel real and like meeting up with an old friend.
Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This is a typical cozy mystery, very well written, and what I like most, is that it's free from long and winding descriptions. Thus, it's a fast and entertaining book to read.
The latest book by Leslie Meir is yet another satisfying page-turning read. Her protagonist Lucy Stone is off again and Leslie Meier does not shy from tackling hot button issues in this book Lucy takes on elder care.
Miss Tilley the retired no-nonsense librarian is in the hospital as the story opens and she is moved to a luxurious senior living facility to recuperate.
The Heritage House is a very upscale facility for the elderly with good food, activities, lovely surroundings, and a caring staff BUT what happened to Agnes Neal an inveterate birder who one morning leaves on a bird-watching walk and never returns.
Has she met with foul play? Is she lost in the woods? Her daughter says that Agnes surely could take care of herself she was a correspondent and reported from war zones.
Lucy starts to investigate the disappearance and uncovers a plethora of information that ultimately leads her to the solution of the disappearance.
Along the way, we meet the residents of the Heritage House and they are an interesting and diverse group with high school-like cliques and jockeying for position and the Easter Bonnet contest is a chance for the fomenting emotions to come to a boil. We had an elderly relative in a home like the one described and Leslie Meier’s description rings true.
Like all Leslie Meier books, this one is a well-written smoothly flowing story. The characters are great and very realistic. To read a Leslie Meier book is like visiting old friends.
Lucy Stone, intrepid woman reporter, is one of those characters I love to visit with. She always has some unusual case happening, and I can never understand how she gets into these things!
Seriously, her aging friend is sent to an assisted living facility and she stumbles upon another mystery, or possibly more!
She's one of those characters I love to read about, but wouldn't want in my vacation group, or at my dinner party, unless it was a mystery dinner!
And, in addition to the regular mystery(ies), she's dealing with another child getting ready to leave the nest, talk about hitting close to home! But I completely got that and loved it.
Kindle Copy for Review from Net Galley and Kensington Books.
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Lucy Stone is back again to solve the case before another mystery during Easter. Will she be able to crack the case before more bodies are spilled?
Another delightful read in the series.
I enjoy cozy mysteries, and the latest by Meier is no exception. It's part of a series, though it can be read as a standalone novel. Things start off a bit slow and seem to wrap up a bit too quickly, but it's an enjoyable read overall. It's always nice to return to Tinker's Cove, even if Lucy's friends don't make as much of an appearance in this one.
I enjoyed this. It made for a nice afternoon's reading. It's a good book to relax with. This is a great series and I love the way the characters have changed since the first book.
I've become a huge fan of the cozy mystery genre due to books like this. You can read this as an escape from the everyday in a weekend. A really good mystery. Maybe not my ultimate favorite but definitely worth a read
Thanks to NetGalley for another excellent book in the Lucy Stone series.
Lucy has only one child at home, Zoe - I remember when she was born. She's gotten a job doing publicity for a baseball team in Portland and just needs a place to live. She and Lucy tour the town to find suitable accommodation but it's all too expensive.
Meanwhile, Miss Tilley is recovering from a bout of pneumonia at the Heritage House, a beautiful and expensive seniors' residence on the edge of town. A resident there had gone out birdwatching and was never seen again. Her daughter bombards Lucy with requests for help to find her (putting her picture in the paper and helping to search popular bird viewing areas). Lucy goes to the Heritage House for stories for the Courier, including the Easter Bonnet contest and a fire drill. But something at the home seems to be unsavory, and Lucy is determined to find out what, with Miss Tilley's help.
I enjoyed this book a lot, and look forward to more entries in this series.
Easter Bonnet Murder is the twenty eighth installment in the A Lucy Stone Mystery series set in Tinkers Cove, Maine and featuring journalist, Lucy Stone. The towns beloved retired librarian, Miss Julia Tilley is in the hospital with pneumonia and the prognosis for the 100+ year old is not good. Miss Tilley's longtime caregiver, Rachel Goodman is beside herself and begs Lucy to go and visit the woman before it's too late. Fortunately, Miss Tilley fights back and makes a recovery, but instead of going home the doctor's recommend that she go to the Heritage House, a local assisted living home to continue her rehabilitation.
Lucy has visited the Heritage House many times to cover activities for the newspaper, but had no idea that the facility was rife with evil undercurrent, until Miss Tilley becomes a resident. Despite their ages, the Seniors appear to have their cliques, vying to be most popular and the upcoming Easter Bonnet contest has everyone looking to come out the winner. When Agnes Neal, avid birdwatcher and last year's winner disappears on a walk, her daughter Geri begs Lucy to look into her mother's disappearance. Convinced that her mother didn't just wander off and bothered by comments Agnes had made about something she suspected was not right at Heritage House, Geri wants the truth. And who better to investigate behind the scenes, but Miss Tilley.
A fun afternoon read, a captivating plot and the return of series regulars. This addition to the series features Medicare fraud, an old war crime, and Lucy's challenges with younger daughter Zoe, as she prepares to move out of the house.
I received an advanced copy of Easter Bonnet Murder from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
Another great addition to the great cozy mystery series, Lucy Stone! It's always great to go back and visit with Lucy!
I love this series so I was looking forward to this new book. Lucy, the main character, investigates a nursing home that might have something mysterious hidden behind the lovely decor and fancy website. It's a page turner, set at Easter, which has a few red herrings but the ending was perfect.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Kensington Books and #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Another Lucy Stone mystery is a hit. Leslie Meier knows what fans enjoy and keeps it coming.
This is another in the Lucy Stone mystery series set in Tinker’s Cove, Maine.
Lucy sets out to visit her dear friend Miss Tilly in the hospital. Fearing the worst, Lucy is surprised to see Miss Tilly demanding to be allowed to go home. The nurses finally convince Miss T that it's best to recover at the Heritage House senior center. The Heritage House has a wonderful reputation and Lucy is happy that Miss T is going there. Unfortunately, after spending some time there, Lucy sees a side to the center that isn’t quite so perfect and pristine.
When the independent and feisty Agnes Neal goes missing from her assisted living unit, Lucy feels the need to investigate.
I received this ARC via Netgalley and Kensington Books, in return for an honest review. While the latest book in this long-running series, it is easily read as a standalone. Lucy’s long-time job as a reporter for the local newspaper doesn’t leave her much free time but enough to regularly check on her dear friend and town grandame, Miss Tilley. Miss Tilley is recovering at the local senior care center, Heritage House, after a hospital stay. When one of the very active, permanent residents goes missing and then is found dead in a stairwell, Lucy’s investigative instincts kick in and send her searching for answers before there are more unexplained deaths, including Miss Tilley’s.
This is a lovely series and Lucy is such a relatable protagonist. She navigates life’s changes well and those experiences, like children growing up and moving out, family member deaths, job changes, make her situations very believable. This is another solid entry in this series.
Enjoyable "cozy", but more involved and interesting than many cozies! The characters are more detailed and we really get involved in their problems! Surprises are involved in the story. The story is a little slow in the beginning, but it helps us really understand what's going on. A good read!!
Tinker's Cove, Maine's Lucy Stone mysteries are cozies that I look forward to.
With Tinker's Cove & Gilead merging their weekly newspapers into The Courier offering online daily updates, Lucy has even more responsibilities to fill the empty nest hours. Except her youngest isn't fully out of the next yet - apartment hunting in the big city in preparation for Zoey's first career job has Bill & Lucy being the 'voice of reality and reason". Not always the voice Zoey wants to hear.
When Miss Tilly is sent to Heritage House to recuperate after a hospital stay, Lucy finds herself embroiled in the home's activities, especially when an active resident goes missing. Something doesn't seem right. Lucy is afraid for her elderly friend Miss Tilly. Life gets dangerous when Lucy begins to investigate this private seniors care home.
There is always something going on and this was a very rapid read that felt more like a catch up with old friends. A great cozy with a light shining on seniors' accommodations. The Easter Bonnet creations presented an interesting assortment of talent and ideas.
Another wonderful mystery from grand dame Leslie Meier! I love a cozy mystery and hers are some of the best in the game! Reading a Lucy Stone Mystery feels like pulling on a cozy sweater!
In the latest book in the series Lucy investigates a nursing home that might have something sinister hidden behind lovely furnishings and a slick website. Though this book is set at easter it can be enjoyed any time of year! I've read the other books in the series, but think this one stands alone for a perfect quick read!
