You Can Run was a fun thriller with a bit of romance thrown in. I really loved the main characters, enjoyed watching them try and figure out who the killer is and what is going on. There were some twists and turns and I really enjoyed how everyone dealt with everything that happened in the story.

Laurel works for the FBI and is an expert at catching serial killers. She is super smart (was in college at age 11) with an eidetic memory. She is on her way home from a case when she gets a call from her mom asking her for help. A bunch of bodies have been found on a nearby mountain and her uncle is being questioned for these murders which he didn't commit. Laurel immediately hops on the next plane to get there and see what is going on.

Huck is the type of person I love reading. Super strong and silent, but a good person. He is grumbly, but does the right thing. I loved him and how much he obviously cares for the mountain where he lives and is willing to help out whenever needed. He might not want to be around people much, but if someone is lost on the mountain he is there to find them.

Now these two have to work together to try and find the killer before more bodies pile up. I loved them both so much. Laurel is really logical and is not the best with people, but she has a job to do. And Huck might not want to work together, might not want to work with anyone, but he does. Together they were a great team and I loved reading them. Along with the other people Laurel finds to help out as needed this was a great read. A few of the characters were a bit over the top, but still fun to read. And the setting was wonderful. You could feel the cold, the snow, the wind blowing. It was like you were there. And the story had enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. A great read and I am looking forward to more books in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for an advanced copy of this book.

A very good start to the new series.

Laurel Snow, the main character, is a brilliant FBI agent who returns to her hometown to clear her uncle of multiple murder charges after many bodies of young blondes have been found in the surrounding mountains. To solve the case, Laurel has to work with the gruff and mysterious Huck Rivers.

Laurel is a very interesting main character who is easy to like. And so is Huck. I like that he understands and appreciates Laurel's strength and independence and doesn't try to look after her at all costs, even if he instinctively wants to. We also meet a whole group of interesting supporting characters. It’s going to be nice to observe the development of the relationship between them in the next books.

I also like that we discover not only the answers to the discovered bodies of young women, but also Laurel's family secrets. This is a very interesting subplot, and I am curious how it will affect the rest of the series. In many ways, I find this mystery even more exciting than the case that Laurel and Huck are working on.

This is the first book in this series, therefore some subplots remain unresolved and will continue in the next books. But the main plot of the murders is solved and we find out who the murderer is.

Although the crimes against young women are cruel, there are relatively few descriptions of torture or violence against them in this book. So you can safely read it even if you don't like the descriptions of violence against women. Also, one of the characters has experienced rape in the past, but there are no detailed descriptions. However, if you are particularly sensitive about such a subject, be aware.

I recommend this story to everyone who likes extraordinary main characters, complicated family relationships and brutal crimes in a small town. I also recommend it to those looking for a story set in a frosty climate as mountains and snow play a big role in this story.

5 Stars for this thriller romance!

WOW ... This book had me captivated from the first chapter right till the end. I love a good who done it ... especially when I change my mind a million times. And with this one, not only who done it, but who the next victim was going to be ... you sure didn't want to be a blond in this book! This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be my last! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Laurel is a FBI profiler and she gets drawn to her hometown when a pile of young blond girls are found on the cliffside. Her mother begs her to come home and help as her uncle is accused of being the killer. Laurel is a genius and could have done anything with her skills, but she has always been drawn to find out what makes people tick. And if she can help people while doing that ... all the better.

Huck is a Fish and Wildlife Captain who has a hard time getting along with people. He lives, with his dog, outside of town. He was trained as a military sniper, but now he'd rather help people. Whenever someone is missing on the mountain or in the lake, Huck is called in as no one is better at finding people than him.

Now Laurel and Huck have to work together to find the serial killer before he takes another victim. But there is an immense attraction between them ... will they be able to keep their relationship purely professional?

I discovered Rebecca Zanetti this year, with her Special Ops series, so I kinda knew what to expect in this. Zanetti did not disappoint. Laurel Snow is a bit on an odd duck (probably due to her being a child genius), but I definitely appreciated her character. Too often, we see Mary Poppins characters in books like these - you know the characters that are practically perfect in every way. It was nice to see a character with a lack of social skills, although I think Zanetti did focus too much on how beautiful Laurel was supposed to be. But I liked the action and how Zanetti kept me guessing until the end. My only real complaint is that the murderer revealed himself before Laurel could really figure out who was behind the killings, especially since she was so close to figuring it out. However, I like this book well enough to hope that there will be more in the series. I'm definitely would like to see how Laurel and Huck's relationship plays out.

You Can Run is a great start to a new series from Rebecca Zanetti.

Laurel Snow is a young FBI profiler who attended college at age 11. When she has to return to her home town unexpectedly, she develops friendships in the most unlikely of places.

I really liked how Laurel is portrayed and how she constantly analyses herself.

Her counterpart from Fish and Wildlife Dept, Huck is a hulk of a man with some demons that haunt him.

Together they make an amazing investigative team but with some chemistry zinging around them, their minds are not always strictly on the job at hand.

This looks like the start of a really good series. Lots of groundwork has been put securely in place for Laurel Snow and her 'team' to investigate more goings on, in and around Genesis Valley in Washington State.

I'm so looking forward to discovering where her Laurel's investigations will take her next.

Great start to a new series! Laurel is a genius FBI agent called home to help with a serial killer case her uncle is implicated in. She works closely with Huck from Fish and Wildlife and a great cast of characters to catch a killer before he kills again.

Great chemistry between Huck and Laurel and love the set up that gets her home for good and sets up the series to continue. The mystery is filled with twists and turns and overall this book is hard to put down.

I love this author to pieces. I one click whatever she rights. I am not a huge fan of suspense because I am a big wuss. But I jumped in to the story and took my time reading. We meet Laurel Snow from the first and the book takes off from there.

She is unique in both her background, her style and her underlying ties to the crime area. Lots of little hits dropped throughout the story. The reader is pulled back and forth between who might be the assailant.

Along the way, Laurel meets Huck and they have insta attraction but don't move on it for awhile. Huck is a ranger and is vital to helping her get access to the crime region.

The story is a perfect winter read. We get the cold and frost, lush mountain scapes and quaint small town life. The rest of the side characters that are introduced are also worth the read. Everyone adds to the story.

So my haste to one click led to me not reading the description for the book. I didn't realize that this was first in a series. For that reason, the story just kind of ends. There is more to come. I wasn't expecting it and was disappointed that there wasn't at least resolution between Huck and Laurel. All the more reason to see what the next book brings I guess.

The suspense and mystery kept me guessing. Good crime read with a little bit of romance.

What an awesome read and a new series! I absolutely love Laurel, so many characters intertwined in this first chapter and it makes for so many possibilities to come in the series.

So many great words and thoughts, "muddy armor, panties, chess matches, knitting, evil, Spock vs Kirk, one-off, beautiful friendships."

Murder, mayhem, mystery, family and friends? The story it woven with beauty, it's like you are following a bouncing ball on top of a sentence and you willingly bounce along within the character's mind. A strong heroine and an equally strong hero, but remember, it's just "the beginning of a beautiful friendship." Loved Kate and the girls and I'm so very excited for the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed this book.

If you are a Rebecca Zanetti fan you will not be disappointed in her latest book. You Can Run is a murder mystery thriller with a bit of romance. FBI Special Agent Laurel Snow is returning to Washington D. C. when she is diverted to her home town of Genesis Valley, Washington, where several bodies have been found. Fish & wildlife offer Captain Huck Rivers heads up the taskforce working the case.

This has a compelling and complex storyline that kept me riveted. It’s a skillfully written, sometimes chilling psychological thriller. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

There is a serial killer in Laurel Snow's hometown. Her uncle is a suspect. Laurel heads back home to prove that her family has nothing to do with what is going on. In the process, she learns a lot about her family's past, and how that has to do with her present.

Laurel has to work closely with Captain Huck Rivers. A "likes to work alone" kind of guy. This time, he has to be a team player. Laurel and Huck keep fighting an attraction while they maintain their focus on preventing more deaths. They have a lot working against them in their work, but they are determined to find out who in this small town is an actual monster.

Great book!!

This was my first Zanetti book, and I will be seeking out more to read. This books start the new Laurel Snow series, and I thought Laurel was an interesting, compelling lead. I look forward to the next installments.

Laurel is an FBI agent who specializes in catching serial killers. She was a child prodigy and finished college at a young and is therefore in her FBI role at a young age. I liked how her personality was shown through her quirks and particularities but also was given a warmth of character that it made her easy to root for and understand. That was well done of the author.

When Laurel gets a call that there is a serial killer in her home town, she gets on the first plane to her remote Idaho city and begins an investigation. The story is full of meddling locals and personal connections for Laurel that ultimately dig up some uncomfortable secrets. I don't want to give away any surprises, but it was a messy investigation.

The story telling was fast-paced and exciting. I thought it was clear early on what some connections were but others were surprising. By the end of the book, there is a quasi nemsis for Laurel that I am sure will play a big role in future books, and I am intrigued and interested for that dynamic to continue. There was a bit of romance that comes into play as well that I look forward to seeing how it progresses. There were a few times where I wasn't sure that the time it took to do things made sense, but it worked for the story and it did not detract from my enjoyment.

I would recommend this book if looking for a fast-paced thriller. I enjoyed the book and will be looking to read more by the author.

Whoa! This was one intense ride!

From the first few pages Laurel captured my attention. She’s so unique compared to the average heroine. I loved the little “parlor tricks” she did for her boss and was a bit disappointed that we didn’t see more of that ability come into play as the story continued. That’s not to say the story was lacking, just hoping that we see this talent shine in the future. Even after finishing this, I know that thoughts of Laurel will be running through my mind for a long while.

This is predominantly written from the heroine’s point of view. However, we did get Huck’s insights a few times. I’m curious to see exactly what all he’s been through. Despite Laurel being trained to protect herself, Huck tends to take steps to protect her. And well, considering what all she goes through, perhaps he has every reason to do so. I’m hoping we get much more of him.

There is a constant ebb and flow of danger and suspense interlaced with the dark, heavy weight of secondary characters that kept me turning pages. I never knew which way to look. Where was the threat coming from and who was behind it? This was totally mind boggling. Along the way was the slow burn between Huck and Laurel making me antsy for more of them as I needed them to get to a safe place so they could have more. I literally read this book feeling as if I were sitting on pins and needles the whole time.

While this does end without a huge cliffhanger, it leaves us with unanswered questions as well as unresolved issues regarding certain characters. I can’t wait to see what this author has planned in future books.

Rebecca Zanetti is one of my favorite authors because I know her books will be exciting, well-written, with wonderful heroines and villains who are simply "villains" in the worst way conceivable. This is unquestionably a must-read, with the conclusion arriving far too soon.
Well done, well done.

You Can Run by Rebecca Zanetti is a fast-paced suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat! The story centres around Laurel Snow an FBI Special Agent and child prodigy who is a little quirky, finds it difficult to relate to people and is brilliant at her job! When dead bodies are found in her hometown of Genesis Valley, WA. She is called home to investigate. Back home under the care of her anxious mother she meets Huck Rivers, a Fish and Wildlife Officer who becomes part of the investigation, rather reluctantly. He also has his own story and even though he is attracted to the quirky Laurel, he is careful to set up boundaries…rather grumpily! Together they both must work against the clock and others within the community to stop the killer before his kill list gets bigger.

This was a thrilling book with some great characters! Laurel is strong but also vulnerable as she tries to relate to the people around her as well as decipher her feelings about Huck. She has a lot of questioning thoughts throughout the story which was relatable, and I loved that she had to keep wearing her mother’s clothes (a light-hearted moment within the book). The chemistry between her and Huck was great, and I enjoyed finding out more about the characters as the book went on. Huck is gruff but with his background you understand why he is the way he is. He also lives alone with his dog and seems to be a little bit ostracised from the community he is in, even though he is brilliant at his job. As the book moves along, he becomes more human, especially when it comes to how he feels for Laurel and how he desperately wants to catch the killer!

The suspense in this story was killer. I had no idea what we were going to get at the end. I will say that Abigail Caine is pure crazy, and it will be interesting to see where she ends up in future books as well as finding out other things she has done for her narcissistic self.

Overall, a brilliant, suspenseful book with a little bit of romance thrown in. This story will definitely have you hooked from the first to the last page!

This is the first book in the Laurel Snow series and though I enjoyed reading it, I was left just a bit unsatisfied with the conclusion. Though the killer is unmasked there are still questions that I assume will be addressed in the next book. The pacing was good and the characters were interesting but since I'm generally not a fan of series with the same main character in each book, I'll have to reserve final judgement.

You Can Run is like watching an incredible thriller on TV...its vivid, breathtaking, edge of your seat exciting and impossible to keep your eyes off the pages!

This review was one of the hardest for me to write. Its not because the book was awful but because of the opposite. It was one of the most thrilling reads of 2021! It was loaded to the MAX with twists you don't see coming and with a slow tantalizing romance that grips your heart and has you wondering how the next book will turn out. I loved the way this book was written. Rebecca Zanetti wrote this book in a way that urges the reader to play detective throughout the story and help the heroine figure out who the killer really is. At least for me it felt that way and I really enjoyed it 100%.

Now lets talk a bit about Laurel and Huck. I really loved these two. Like a WHOOOOOOLE lot and I am already anxious to see where things go for them in the next book. Laurel is seriously a genius. Super intelligent, kind and isn't easily controlled by emotion, I found her to be a really endearing heroine. She is a beautiful heroine inside and out and I rooted for her from the moment I started reading. The way her mind works is fascinating and really amazing. Now Huck is a broody, borderline rude hero who quite honestly dug himself in my heart straight away. He is bold, sexy, prefers his amazing dog over most people and knows his way around the outdoors and mountains. I loved watching Huck and Laurel interact with each other and with other people during their investigations. They had such awesome chemistry and they worked great as a team. I think Huck is a perfect match for Laurel in every way. Their chemistry is a slow, steady burn that I feel a reader can sense right through the pages. I can't wait for more of these two!

You Can Run was a never ending, thrilling roller coaster ride with lots of spectacular twists and turns and will keep a reader engaged and guessing until the very end. This was well written GOLD!

My Criminal Minds loving heart was invested from the mention of a female FBI lead character. I loved Laurel
Snow, her straight-forwardness, genuine love of family & desire to feel connected. I never knew what was coming next, or who, with constant introductions, but each character added another layer (& suspect!). The only miss for me was a little too much “will they or won’t they”- took away from the main story for me. (I will note that the Laurel Snow series is considered to be Romantic Thrillers) Ultimately, I came for the suspense & stayed for the family drama & it was well worth it in the end! Can’t wait for more Laurel Snow, as this is #1 of her series

📖 Q: do what’s a book you want to finish before the year ends?

This is not a light read but I really enjoyed it…in the way that you can enjoy a suspense w/ romantic elements which includes a serial killer 🙃.

First in the Laurel Snow series, Rebecca Zanetti’s You Can Run introduces us to the aforementioned Laurel, an absolutely brilliant FBI Special Agent with an eidetic memory & a reputation for catching killers.

When her uncle is accused of being a serial killer Laurel returns to Washington state to find out the real killer. Early in her investigation she meets Huck Rivers, a taciturn man with Fish & Wildlife—an organization which happens to have police-level powers in that state.

They have to work together to solve the murders as they continue happening, a task made more difficult by the fact that neither is exactly a people person & they happen to be wildly attracted to the other.

This book isn’t subtle. Some details are said again & again. But it is exciting & entertaining & creepy & sexy & I swiped the pages with speed. On the emotional front the book does a good job of showing how both Laurel & Huck are isolated in their own ways but still have some type of connection.

Though there’s no HEA or even a HFN I was okay with where things have temporarily stopped mostly because Zanetti so satisfyingly builds up Huck’s baggage & I know that Timber! moment is coming & I’m ready for it.

4 ⭐️. Release date: 01/25.

CWs: reference to rape, including the revelation that Laurel’s mother was raped and impregnated with Laurel; murder.

I wasn’t ready for the last page! I mean, I knew it was coming. And I know that this isn’t the end of our time with Laurel and Huck, but I selfishly wanted more now. The mystery only got deeper and murkier as we ventured into this tale, too. Who is killing these women? Why? And as we’ve come to expect from this author, the clues don’t all add up but they all point to a few big things that could be the problem. And even with those clues and wondering, I couldn’t put this down! I just had to know what was afoot here. And why. And how it’ll end.

Laurel and Huck were an unlikely duo, yet they worked excellently together. Add in the assistant from heaven, a mother with secrets, an agent eager for a second chance, an oddball uncle, and a lazy sheriff determined to make cruel ineptness the norm, and I was hooked. But none of them counted on just how close to home this would all end up being. So now I have some answers, a huge wish of wanting to know what comes next, and more questions that I look forward to revisiting and maybe figuring out in the next book.

As for Laurel and Huck, I see much more than friendship ahead for them. And I’m pretty sure they both do also, even if one of them doesn’t want to admit it just yet.

Author Rebecca Zanetti takes a big step out of the romantic suspense genre with You Can Run. This is a murder mystery with strong elements of psychological thriller - an element that may continue in future books. In this start of a series book, the case is solved but the interplay between various main (and secondary) characters remain unresolved.

The book keeps the reader engaged with palpable suspense even as a good deal of red herrings are used - some, I suspect, as set up for the rest of the books in the series.

FBI Special Agent, Laurel Snow, hurries back home after a frantic call from her mother. Her uncle is the main suspect as a body dump is found in the wilderness. Laurel is a child prodigy but lacks the ability to read certain social cues. This dimension of Laurel's character is mentioned often but does not always play out in her interactions.

Fisheries and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers is the stoic 'mountain man' reluctantly helping Laurel with the serial murder case. He is protective but prefers to keep himself distant from others. However, he and Laurel make a great team and it would be interesting to see their evolving relationship. The dash of romance is, however, not enough to satisfy fans of romantic suspense.

There is a good cast of secondary characters that are both interesting and in some cases more terrifying. The setting is beautifully rural and the author manages to use the weather not only as context and backdrop but almost as another secondary character.

The book does seem to end rather abruptly, with the serial killer case mostly resolved. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Kensington Books - Zebra and Rebecca Zanetti provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Publication date is currently set for January 25, 2022.
