If you are looking for nonstop action with your romance, You Can Run by Rebecca Zanetti is a must-read. Zanetti is a pro at bringing exciting romantic suspense into the cold, damp Pacific Northwest.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Laurel is a genius FBI profiler. When her mother calls to say her uncle is a serial killer suspect, she jumps on the next flight to her rural Washington home. There Laurel meets Fish and Wildlife officer Huck, who keeps to himself in the mountains. After some maneuvering, they head up the investigation of a killer who gets bolder with each murder. Through the course of their investigation, they meet Abigail. While she is eerily similar to Laurel in many ways, she also makes Laurel suspicious.
While the plot moves along at a brisk pace, it’s the expertly developed characters that make the story come to life. Even Huck’s search and rescue dog Aeneas is a well-rounded character who plays a key role in the investigation. I also found Laurel’s thoughts on the fine line between genius and madness fascinating. And, I got literal chills reading the detailed wintery descriptions.
There is more suspense and tension, and less humor and romance than typically appears in a Zanetti book. But, overall it worked well, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happened next.
You Can Run is filled with excitement from beginning to end. It is a great start to an intriguing suspense series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Laurel Snow and Huck Rivers are characters with a lot happening. This novel was action-packed and kept me on the edge of my seat with all that was going on in it. It's a very exciting book and I loved reading about their connection and all they went through to solve the crime. Serial killers and weather that is part of the action. I really
enjoyed this book and recommend it for all who like the Romantic Suspense genre.
FBI agent Laurel Snow returns home at the request of her mother. Laurel’s uncle is under suspicion and believed to possibly be a serial killer. She meets Huck Rivers who works for Fish & Wildlife. They work together to solve the mystery. Great characters and Snow learns more about her family and their secrets while she’s there. Looking forward to reading more about Agent Snow and Captain Rivers and the unfolding “ friendship.”
Thank you to Kensington Books, Zebra, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
You Can Run by Rebecca Zanetti is an exciting blend of romance and thriller. The story revolves around Laurel, an FBI profiler who heads to the snowy peaks of Washington. When dead bodies start turning up, Laurel gets called to join the hunt for a serial killer. Along the journey, she starts feeling attracted to Huck, a fish and wildlife officer and former soldier. Will Laurel be able to find the serial killer before it's too late? And will she find true love with Huck?
Here is an exciting excerpt from the Prologue:
"“Hold on!” Hunter yelled.
She gasped and swiveled as far as the harness would allow, to see snow and mud break. loose from the craggy mountain face above them. “No, we—”
The avalanche poured down, right into them. The force struck the driver’s side, nearly tipping them over.
...
Tammy Jo slammed against her harness and pressed her hands on the dash, screaming. Terror ripped through her as they slid down the cliffside, close to a massive drop-off she hadn’t seen from above. They were going to die."
Overall, You Can Run is a police procedural thriller with a dash of romance that will appeal to fans of A.R. Torre and Colleen Hoover. I could not put this book down. I had to keep reading until the end of the book so that I could figure out who the serial killer was. Even though I typically prefer thrillers over romance books, the romance here is not overbearing. It's basically a slow-burn with banter up until it culminates in one bedroom scene near the end. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of romantic thrillers, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in January!
What a great read! It's a thriller/suspense that looks like it will be a continued series. The case is solved, but the relations of the main characters are not.
The heroine is my absolute favorite. She was fascinating and I loved how she reacted to a lot of the situations in this, especially her reactions to the hero. She's a child prodigy that has become an FBI agent profiler. You could say her personality is unique. Some would say she was strange but what makes her strange in others eyes is that she doesn't let her emotions dictate her reactions. She thinks very logically and sees more into people's words instead of taking personal insult. She's also very upfront with people, no game playing or hinting. She was just a refreshing character to read about.
The hero is a bit harder to connect too. He's big, gruff and closed off. He really doesn't want to be around people to the point of being rude, and yet he is basically a hero. His work is saving people and you can tell he truly cares, he just wants to be left alone. He is also upfront with people but like I sad in more of a rude way. I can already see that the heroine is softening him just because she reacts so differently to people than others. I think that's going to make him open up more.
I think that because of the way the hero/heroine are, the romance in this series is going to be more of a slow burn. Now usually I want more with a couple, but the suspenseful plot was pretty exciting to read on its own that any romance we got felt like a bonus. There is also some pretty interesting side characters that I'm really looking forward to what's going to come next. Great read!!
A new series that grabs you and pulls you in fast. At first wasn't sure, yet another heroine who is beautiful and special and brilliant and genius - but by the end definitely pulled in as we learn more about Laurel. Strong cast of interesting characters definitely shows promise for future developments! A definite winner!
This author is a must-read for me and I was very excited for her new series! This book is a cleverly written, complex story with many twists and turns and family dynamics keep the reader captivated until the end. You keep wanting to turn the page to find out what happens and you are sad when you reach the end. But, you know that you will see her again soon and meet up with all of the characters you first met here. A great start to a new series and I can't wait for the next one!
This is the first book in Zanetti's new series featuring profiler and FBI Special Agent Laurel Snow. Laurel was a child prodigy with an eidetic memory and started college at age 11. Her mother devoted her time to her and moved with her to complete college. Laurel is a strong woman and is somewhat oblivious to other people's POV and social cues. Captain Huck Rivers is a Fish and Wildlife Officer who lives off the grid and is a recluse when he is not working. With the weather and time working against them, Laurel and Huck must work together in her hometown to catch the killer of young women whose bodies are found naked and staged. A cleverly written, complex story with many twists and turns and family dynamics keep the reader captivated until the end. A great start to a new series!
FBI agent Laurel Snow is called back home to Genesis Valley Washington by her frantic mother. Her uncle is being accused by the local sheriff of being a murderer. Laurel knows that her gentle uncle would never hurt anyone, especially not the many young women that have been discovered dead on the side of the mountain.
Because the dead bodies are found on a mountain, Fish and Wildlife Police Officer Huck Rivers is also called into investigate. Sparks fly between Laurel and Huck almost immediately. Two people considered odd and different by the rest of the world gravitate towards each other.
As the bodies continue to turn up, so do the suspects. Including Dr. Abigail Caine, a fellow high IQ child prodigy like Laurel, who inserts herself into the investigation and into Laurel’s life. But what are her intentions? Is she simply a witness or something more sinister? And when a female colleague goes missing, it’s a race against the clock for Laurel and Huck to find her and the murderer before it’s too late.
I’m a big fan of Rebecca Zanetti, I’ve read both her paranormal books and her romantic suspense ones. I really enjoyed this book. Nothing like spending a couple of hours curled up with a hot drink and a romantic suspense novel. And the ending has set it up for Laurel to have another book which I’m pleased about. 3.5 stars from me.
me.
A brand new thriller series to get 2022 off to a racing start!
Laurel Snow is just about the smartest person in the room at all times. She's got degrees on top of degrees, a former child prodigy and a kickbutt FBI agent. Her childhood wan't easy - her mother raised her on her own, never naming her father. She went to college when she was still a young child and she finds the world a chaotic place if she was honest with herself. But when family calls and says that her uncle is being grilled by police over discovery of multiple bodies, she makes her way home to Genesis Valley to see what is actually going on.
Snowblood Peak just sounds creepy, the perfect place for a serial killer to haunt. Tasked with setting up a branch office of the FBI in the small town is not going to be easy - the local sheriff is territorial to the extreme, the local church seems to be far too involved in local life and one particular Fish and Wildlife office, Huck Rivers, is far too distracting.
Loving this superb new series. Again set in the Pacific Northwest which made me feel right at home as it's like Scotland on steroids LOL. Lauren is complex and a layered character. Huck most definitely has secrets he's keeping and Genesis Valley is a small town that bursts with intrigue.
Mostly told from Laurels POV but with chapters devoted to other characters. We meet an array of townsfolk who don't make life easy for Laurel. A certain psychologist is all up in Laurel's business!
Twists and turns aplenty and enough suspects that you're never quite sure who you can trust. Although there is romance, it's secondary to the storyline and enhances the tension rather than distracts from it. It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out in further books in the series.
Rebecca Zanetti brings us the start of a new series. We meet FBI Agent Laurel Snow when she gets a desperate call from her mother urging her home. What meets her in Genesis Valley, WA is a pile of dead bodies and the hunt for a serial killer. In her quest to find answers, she teams up with Fish and Wildlife Officer Huck Rivers. She is bombarded by a myriad of different personalities as she encounters suspects and helpers alike. Will these help or hinder Agent Snow as she grapples with shocking news from her past and tries to figure out her feelings towards Officer Rivers? Will Laurel and Huck be able to work together and find the killer before it is too late and finds one of her own missing?
Rebecca Zanetti's first book in the Laurel Snow Series brings you in when we first meet Laurel. You keep wanting to turn the page to find out what happens and you are sad when you reach the end. But, you know that you will see her again soon and meet up with all of the characters you first met here. One mystery solved, but there are others still waiting to be continued as the series continues. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books Zebra for this privilege.
This is my first book by this author and I was hooked from page one. I absolutely loved the suspense level of this book. Even with multiple points of view, including the serial killer, I loved being shocked. Loved how Laurel and Huck were together and how they made a good team. This is a complete story, no cliffhanger but I’d like to more into these characters if it becomes a series. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.
I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book isn't even out yet, and I want the second one! I love Rebecca Zanetti's books, but usually stick to mainly romance novels, so I wasn't sure if I'd like this one as much. Boy did she prove me wrong. While this book mainly focuses on the investigation of a serial killer, there is definitely a relationship building between the two main characters that I can't wait to see develop over the series.
If you like the mystery/suspense/investigator type books, as well as romance, you'll love this.
A wonderful new series by Rebecca Zanetti. Laurel Snow is an FBI Special Agent profiler who went to college at age eleven. She's quite gifted in reading people and situations. When her mother calls her saying that her uncle is a suspect as a serial killer, she asks for time off to go see if she can help. Her boss decides that she should actually work the case with the local police and the Fish and Wildlife division there. She meets the Fish and Wildlife officer, Huck, who has his own reasons for being a solitary man. He's the best tracker so he's helping Laurel with the case even though it's reluctantly. Neither one of them want a relationship but they are drawn to each other. There are twists and turns in this book that I didn't see coming. I enjoyed this book a lot and I'm looking forward to the next book. I hope it won't be too long! I received an early copy from Netgalley to read early and I'm leaving my honest review. I also have a copy on pre-order.
You Can Run is the first book in the Laurel Snow series, and it’s off to a fantastic start. FBI agent Laurel Snow is paired up with Huck Rivers, a former soldier who is now a captain with fish and wildlife, when it’s discovered a serial killer has been striking near her hometown.
Huck has trust issues, as does Laurel, but they soon find themselves having no choice but to trust each other as it becomes clear the killer is closer than they thought, and he has his sights set on Laurel.
The story is filled with twists and turns, including one involving Dr. Abigail Caine, a witness with an IQ that rivals Laurel’s. Dr. Caine tries to turn everything into a game, and Laurel finds herself engaging with her not only because she enjoys the challenge, but because she feels an unexplainable connection to her.
There were some things that were left hanging in this book, such as the status of Laurel and Huck’s relationship, and how Dr. Caine is going to continue to integrate herself into Laurel’s life, but it seems like those are things that are going to be developed throughout the series.
I really enjoy this author’s paranormal series, and I was happy to find that I enjoyed the start of this new non-paranormal suspense series just as much. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
What a great read! I was on the edge of my seat trying to determine the identity of the serial killer. Laurel was a very interesting lead, surrounded by a strong cast of supporting characters. I’m hoping this becomes a series as it appears there are lots of loose ends and also some friendships developing. There were some abrupt changes in the story from time-to-time, but I received this as an ARC so I’m guessing the editing process will iron out those transitions. It’s a solid 3.5 stars.
I truly loved this book. It was so thrilling, I couldn’t put it down.
I loved every character, the environment, the danger and the romance.
I can’t wait to continue the series with the intriguing Laurel Snow.
Laurel is used to being a loner being a woman FBI agent and having the genetic anomaly that she has always made her different that and the fact that she started college at the age of 11. When a serial killer is discovered in her hometown and they think her Uncle is that killer she heads home to investigate. Huck likes his home in the woods he likes living alone there with his dog and being Fish and Wildlife Officer. He works search an rescue by himself and likes it that way, Blonds start dropping and the bosses want Laurel and Huck to partner up and that is not to either of their liking until someone starts taking shots at Laurel. Love all of Rebecca Zanetti's books thank you Netgalley and Ms. Zanetti for the advanced copy.
Laurel Snow is a special agent for the FBI, her specialty is catching serial killers, and she is good at her job, On her way back to DC from a recent case, she is surprised by a frantic call from her mother begging her to come home and help her Uncle Carl who was being questioned for some gruesome murders committed in her hometown. Although her uncle is a little odd, Laurel knows he isn't a murderer..
Captain Huck Rivers is a member of the Washington State Fish and Wildlife services, who is assigned to work with Laurel in the investigation into the murders on state lands. Working WITH people isn't one of Huck's strong points and working with the smart and sexy agent is definitely not something he's comfortable with but as he digs into the investigation he is drawn to her, like it or not.
This story snagged my interest from the start and kept it all the way through. These characters, along with a host of others you meet along the way, are interesting and a little quirky and truly draw you to them. The story has a lot of twists and the "who done it' is a total surprise.
I really hope to see more of these characters in future books!
I couldn't put the book down. The action was non-stop from the very beginning and the characters really grabbed me. Laurel Snow is a genius as well as an FBI Special Agent who excels at profiling. Her specialty is serial killers, so when her Mom calls her for help after her uncle is suspected of a spate of killings, she goes to the rescue.. Along with her high I.Q., Laurel seems to have a hint of autism or something similar. Huck, the State Fish & Wildlife officer who is assigned to help her solve the murders, has personality issues of his own. He suffered PTSD from a traumatic case he closed in the past and is known for being somewhat anti-social. There are feelings that develop between the two that neither want to deal with and it adds to the tension of the story. There are plenty of surprises and the secondary characters were well defined too. This is obviously the beginning of a series as not all the ends are completely tied up. But this is not an actual cliff hangar as most of them are. I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next in the series..
