Quirky and fun romance with plenty of Christmas cheer. Loved the adventuresome characters, the Lapland setting,, and the festive tone throughout. I am a sucker for a Christmas book - this was a good one!
lora's Travelling Christmas Shop by Rebecca Raisin has Flora, a Christmas addict, who gets fired from her job in a Christmas shop, and hits on the idea of going to a Christmas fayre in Lapland with a travelling Christmas shop!
There she meets Connor, someone who definitely does not like Chirsmtas, and so she decides to make it her aim to make him enjoy Christmas. And of course we have things going wrong, people getting the wrong idea about things, and moments of joy.
I enjoyed this story a lot, and found it to be very Christmasy. It's an enjoyable read, with a lovely setting on Lapland.
Flora's Travelling Christmas Shop was published on 28th October 2021, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.
I've read and reviewed another book in this same series, Aria's Travelling Book shop.
You can follow Rebecca Raisin on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and her website.
I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to HQ.
Fantastic read had me hooked, dreaming of luxurious hot chocolate with whipped cream marshmallows and a roaring log fire.
As always, Rebecca Raisin did not disappoint. "Flora's Travelling Christmas Shop" was just the palate cleanser I needed after my last read. (While technically this is the third in a trilogy of books about traveling shops, each can be read as a stand alone.)
As is to be expected, Flora's story is a classic Rebecca Raisin rom-com... However! What I loved most about it was the fact that they (the characters IN the story) knew it was a romcom and ran with it. Throughout the entire story Flora and her best friend compare Flora's life to a Hallmark Movie. It absolutely played out that way and I couldn't have loved it more.
{Reader/Reviewer Rant: The thing with romcoms and their close cousins, cozy mysteries, is that we read them because we KNOW what to expect and we KNOW how it's going to end. So when I refer to this story as "classic" or "typical" it is not even close to a negative comment. It is, in fact, a compliment - a way to show that an author has hit their stride in giving their audience exactly what they are hoping for. With both romcoms and cozies, since you know the HEA is coming, you get to choose exactly what kind of environment and character can make that happen for you. Love a small town bookshop? We've got a book for that! Want a mystery set on a canal boat in England? We've got that, too! If you pick up this type of story and then complain that it's formulaic, then this is clearly not the genre for you. Rant Over. Thanks for listening.}
So are you looking for a romcom set around traveling shops in Finland at Christmastime whose main character is a misunderstood dreamer and whose love interest is a curmudgeonly boss that grumbles like Scrooge but looks like Thor? Then have I got the book for you!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and HQ/HarperCollins for this advanced copy to read and review.
What a lovel feel good Christmas story. Flora must be the quirkiest heroine I’ve ever encountered and you can’t but fall in love with her!
This book is like reading a Christmas Movie, just like Flora wishes her life to be. I absolutely loved it.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
this book is not in my most liked genres but I was pulled in by the idea of the setting and theme of the book. It turned out to be another typical Romance with the same repetitive plot lines. It is not the worst of its kind but not one that would make me want to read more from the author
I really wanted to like this book. It had all my favourite ingredients - Christmas, gorgeous setting and delicious descriptions of food but the main character is so supremely irritating that I couldn’t fully enjoy the book. This book is lacking the warmth I’ve read in other hooks by the same author. Just slightly two dimensional. Not top of my Christmas list.
Thank you Netgalley.
A great book with a feel good factor. A light hearted read which kept the reader engaged. I loved Flora and the Lapland location- magical !
I would recommend this book
Thank you to Netgalley, HQ books and Rebecca Raisin for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review
No one could love Christmas more than Flora. If she could spend all year being in festive cheer she would. She even wears festive clothes, has shoes with reindeer on them, and has her dream job working at Deck the Halls Christmas emporium. That is until everything starts to go wrong for her. Her best friend and roommate announces she is off to America and she is fired from her job for being too kind. Depressed about what to do next, her friend gives her the idea to start her own Christmas shop from a van, but Flora takes it to the extreme and decides that is a great idea but she is going to open her van store in Lapland, the home of Christmas. If you love Christmas and festive reads you are going to love this book. It screams Christmas the whole way through and I’ve never met anyone who loves the festive season anywhere near as much as Flora does, thank goodness. I like Christmas from 1st December-25th December, then I’m happy not to hear it mentioned for another twelve months. The book is joyful, the characters adorable, and as it is mentioned once or twice in the book, that Flora’s life could pass for a Hallmark movie, as she goes on an adventure to a place she has never been before and meets a real hunk who she is at loggerheads with from the minute they meet, one who hates Christmas. Flora’s Travelling Christmas Shop will put a smile on your face, especially at all the witty moments. It will leave you feeling warm and happy inside. It is a book to read when you need a pick-me-up or to get you festive ready. So sit by your twinkling tree and float off to freezing cold Lapland with Flora and her van.
I would like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review.
When I read the blurb for this book, I just knew that I was going to love it and I wasn’t wrong - it was so Christmassy and festive, it was the perfect feel good book!
I loved everything about this book, it had all the feels of a Hallmark Christmas movie and it was so easy to read, once I started I just couldn’t stop!!
Flora’s Travelling Christmas Shop was such a feel good, magical, festive book to read, with a lovely sprinkle of romance in there too.
This was definitely the right book to get me into the Christmas spirit, even in October!!
This book was a good read. I did find it took a bit of time to get into it but it was worth it in the end. A true Christmas book.
OK.. It's 2022 but I needed just one more Xmas book. This one was funny and made me smile. Had all the Xmas ingredients like gingerbread, Xmas Market, snow, love and carols in it. A must read if you are into Xmas romance novels. I really loved this book!
Thanks @netgalley and @rebeccaraisinwrites for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis: Flora loves Christmas more than anything else in the world, so she’s gutted when her Scrooge-alike boss fires her from Deck the Halls Christmas emporium. But now she finally has a chance to follow her dreams – and what better place to start than the home of Christmas?
Before she can say ‘sleigh bells’, Flora’s on her way to Lapland in a campervan-cum-Christmas-shop. She can’t wait to spend her days drinking hot chocolate and taking reindeer-drawn carriage rides, but something Flora didn’t expect was meeting Connor, a Norse god of a man who makes her heart flutter and snowflakes swirl in her stomach. There’s just one problem: Connor hates Christmas.
Can Flora convince Connor of the joys of Christmas – and will she find a festive romance along the way?
The perfect Christmas romance for fans of Debbie Johnson, Holly Martin and Jenny Colgan.

Cute. Just very very cute! absolute tool of a boss fires Flora just before Christmas, so she ups and takes off to Lapland! Very warm, magical happy Christmas read.
I really enjoyed this book, not read any by this author before. It was a lovely lighthearted read and very Christmassy. I really found myself rooting for Flora right from the beginning and it was lovely seeing her character evolve as the story progressed. The plot was a little predictable in parts but I did really enjoy this book overall and would recommend it to others,
Grab a cup of hot chocolate and settle in for this adorable book! After losing her job, Flora (Miss Christmas haha), decides to leave her life behind and travel around in a campervan selling Christmas items. It is a cute tale about finding herself, finding love and new friends along the way. Fun book!
If you're looking for a festive feel-good romance then look no further! I immediately loved the idea of a little travelling Christmas shop and, as a character, Flora is wonderfully eccentric and obsessed with Christmas! There were some hilarious moments and some cringeworthy ones but overall, this was a quick enjoyable read that transports you into Lapland and the makings of a Christmas Hallmark movie!
**Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read an advanced e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own **
This is a lovely feel good book about taking chances and the magic of Christmas.
Flora loves Christmas and when her boss sacks her from her dream job just before Christmas she decides to take a chance and head off to where Christmas should be perfect - Lapland.
Taking her new van packed with Christmas goodies she begins the van life.
Snow, lights and a tall handsome hero.
A great Christmas read
When opposites attract the results can be magical.
Flora is the embodiment of a Christmas elf, most people cringe at the thought of working in retail at Christmas, but for Flora it's her everything. The beginning of Flora's Travelling Christmas Shop reminds me of the film Last Christmas.
When fired for doing a good deed for a little girl, Flora finds out her friend is leaving her, before she goes, she helps Flora plan for big changes, swapping Central London for van life in Lapland. Along the way she makes friends, and enemies, but it's out of place Irishman, Connor who tilts her world on its axis.
This story is full of friendship, humour, and a little magical Christmas romance.
Unfortunately, due to personal reasons I am late unloading my review, this is in no way a reflection on the book itself.
My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher HQ Digital and the author Rebecca Raisin for allowing me to read and review this 4-star read.
