This book was way different than what I expected and I mean that in a great way. It had way more going on with each of the characters than I would've never guessed and it keeps me turning the page to see what else this author had up her sleeve. Loved the ending.

I was so interested at the beggining why who... but after I knew the reason was not something seemed a good claver thing to do. I am to sensitive for the specific themes and can not be really sattisfied. Maybe that can work for someone else.

Thank you Negtgalley and Thomas&Mercer for this arc.

Having read and enjoyed previous books by the author I was expecting to like this one much more than I did. Unfortunately this book feels very much like a YA thriller rather than a mature domestic thriller. The characters were just immature and annoying and I couldn’t get into the story. I did like the multiple points of view, and Rouda is a good writer, but this book wasn’t for me.

Somebody's Home by Kaira Rouda is an absolutely fantastic thriller of a book!

Julie has left her husband and packed up her daughter and leaves her million-dollar home to a quieter existence. The only problem is that the seller's son is still living in a carriage house on the property.
He's SUPPOSED to leave. by the end of the week...um ok!

Julie's soon to be ex gets caught up in a scandal that hits the national news and her daughter has made a mistake that has gone viral and upends her plans to go to university.

The author does a fantastic job at weaving multiple story lines and keeping you guessing until the very end.

Complex, flawed characters and twists that will leave you frantically turning the page.

Highly enjoyed this book !

Kaira Rouda's tagline for her author website is "Below The Surface of Seemingly Perfect Lives" and this is the perfect summary for Somebody's Home, her domestic thriller about high achievers and public figures whose dirty secrets unravel with far-reaching and disastrous consequences.
In Somebody's Home the fire is lit when Julie Jones decides she is leaving her suffocating marriage.
As the publisher's blurb notes: "With her teenage daughter, Jess, she’s starting over. Their new house in Oceanside is the first step toward a new life. Even if it comes with the unexpected. The previous owners, a pastor and his wife, have left something - or rather someone―behind…"
USA Today best-selling author Kaira Rouda has made the domestic thriller genre her forte, and from the first chapter she grabs with a story about how promising new beginnings in a quiet neighborhood and a lovely new home can change in a heartbeat.
Something creepy and menacing is unravelling behind the perfect facades, when teen age emotional needs ignored for too long erupt in propulsive demands.
Kaira Rouda sets up the perfect scenario to build to a cataclysmic ending, with great plotting and pacing and sensitive handling of emotional issues. What happens when maintaining the myth of the perfect family is put ahead of recognizing emotional needs and responding in love.

Thank you to the publisher for my copy - all opinions are my own.

This was a bit of a polarizing read for me - on one hand, I love how Kaira writes, I love her snappy easy to digest chapters, I love that an entire story takes place over a matter of a couple of days which means the tension of the story is sky high from start to end. I even enjoy really unlikable characters, and this book is basically all unlikable characters.

On the other hand, the fact that it was ALL unlikable characters meant that I kind of didn't care about any of them. I was in no way invested in any of them getting a happy ending, and in most cases was just hoping that something terrible would befall them.

The book is fast paced, the book is intriguing, the plot is absorbing, and in the end I was satisfied where it all landed. I just wish there had been one single character that I wanted to root for.

I really enjoyed Kaira Roudas last thriller but I have really struggled to read this I keep picking it up and putting it down and forgetting about it it hasn't gripped my attention and I can't force myself to read it. I really wish I could've enjoyed this more than I did but I dnf'd this about 30% of the way through.

Julie Jones has finally left her domineering husband and moved herself and teenage daughter into a smaller home on what is considered the wrong side of town for a new start in life. She loves it. Everyone else hates the move. Including Tom, a strange young man and the son left behind by the previous owners and us to leave the carriage house by the weekend. We know he won’t when he takes a liking to Julie’s daughter. That’s just the beginning. A tense dark thriller highlights the dangerous power dynamics between women and their powerful abusive husbands and the struggle for these women to come into their own. The tension builds and the resulting trauma stays with you long after you finish this authentic book.

This is my second Rouda novel and I really enjoy her style. Her storylines are always twisty, well-written, and a wild ride! Somebody’s Home was no exception. The suspense builds and builds through the entire novel.

The story is told from multiple first-person points-of-view, but I felt a sense of tension and that everything was heading toward an inevitable explosion. Secrets, lies, betrayals, bad decisions...the list goes on.

This is definitely an addicting, binge-worthy type of read with such an entertaining plot. If you enjoy domestic suspense, this is one not to be missed!

Thanks to Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for my gifted e-copy!

About a couple of dysfunctional families and one home. One a pastor who decides to sell the home and leave with his wife and 2 out of 3 of his children. The oldest one Tom lives in a guest cottage and refuses to move out. He is very dark yet charismatic and very lost. He did not get love from his father and his mother left them when he was young. His father quickly moved on and had two more kids.
The new family consist of a teen daughter and her mother. The mother has left her wealthy husband who is very narcissistic and wants the illusion of a happy family. After the mother has had enough she moves out into the home of the pastor. The teen daughter Jess meets the son Tom and is smitten. But they both have their own problems, and they are not simple. She gets caught up in a scandal after a night of drinking and he wants vengeance on his dad.
This novel turns sinister and you have to read to find out if they work out their problems, as all the characters have their issues, such is life. A little slow paced, but it works out in the end as the characters are all developed.

This is a compellingly interesting read, with suspense building from the beginning and plenty of unexpected twists. It is the perfect read for a winter weekend at home - although super creepy if you happen to be alone! It is a fast-paced and suspenseful story that keeps you reading "one more chapter" until the shocking and dramatic end. Kaira Rouda writes self-absorbed characters at their worst and this dark family drama is no exception. I highly recommend this one

This was a good thriller. I would have liked to see more depth to the characters. Tom Dean, in particular, felt a bit stereotypical to me. Other than that, the plot was engaging and suspenseful and kept me reading.

3.5 stars - good story, if perhaps a bit on the unbelievable side. Son Tom is a bit much on the wackadoodle scale, but it was a very engrossing and quick read!!!

This was a twisty and engaging read. Some of the characters were downright detestable. The multiple storylines were confusing and didn’t work for me. I’m bummed because I usually like the author’s books

Julie Jones has left her suffocating marriage. With her teenage daughter, Jess, she’s starting over. Their new house in Oceanside is the first step toward a new life. Even if it does come with the unexpected. The previous owners, a pastor and his wife, have left something—or rather someone—behind…

Tom Dean has a bitter hatred for the father who considers him a lost cause, and for the woman who’s moved into their family’s house. The only home he’s ever known. He’s never going to leave. She thinks he’ll be gone in three days, but Tom has the perfect plan.
For a newly single mother and her daughter, a fresh start is the beginning of a nightmare. Before the weekend is over, somebody is going to get exactly what they deserve.

Kaira Rouda is known for her fast paced, tense novels with unlikable characters and Somebody's Home promised and delivered all of that. Unfortunately, the plot lost me a bit with this one and left me wanting more.

Giving this 3 stars. This book was tough for me. It was a gripping thriller and was hard to put down but I must say. I had a hard time connecting or even liking some of the characters.. "Somebody's Home" started off a bit confusing for me because there was so much back and forth between her characters. The plot does pick up and I'm glad I stuck with it. I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest review!

I’m sorry but this bill was not good. Told in different voices, None if the characters felt real or relatable. When the story was told from the teenage daughter’s voice, it was unreadable. I like this author and hope this was a one off.

I tried. It’s al I can say. After about 35% I was not connected to any of the characters and would go so far as to say I despised every one of them. The plot was all over the place and seemed to have no direction.
