This was a very enjoyable book. I enjoyed the characters, especially Cassandra and James. Their budding romance was a delight! I also loved the setting of Briarton Park and the surrounding area. I love when a small village or estate are an integral part of a book.
The story itself was a bit predictable, and everything seemed to wrap up rather quickly and conveniently. But overall, this book was enjoyable and I recommend it to anyone who loves clean Regency Romance!

3.5 stars.
A quick read, easy and interesting, historical romance with a mystery to solve.
Cassandra Hale is searching for her roots. Having grown up at an all-girls boarding school, she is startled to receive a two-year-old letter from Mr. Clark of Briarton Park, who might possibly know her parents. By the time she reaches Anston, the house has been bought by James Warrington. James is a widower and has a lot on his mind. Workers are rioting against the introduction of machines in mills, his daughters are clearly in need of a motherly figure and his half-sister is seeing an unsuitable fellow.
Predictably, they are drawn towards each other. However, in an age where their social background mattered a lot, they would be regarded a mismatch. The story progresses through Cassandra’s search for her family and her growing relationship with James, who has to contend with the vicar Mr. North who seems to be smitten with her.
A few surprises, all neatly tied together. I liked the way Cassandra’s character developed throughout the tale. All in all, a good book, for those interested in historical fiction.

Mrs. Denton, the woman who raised Cassandra and who runs the girls' school where Cassandra teaches, had denied knowing anything about Cassandra's parents. However, on her deathbed, she reveals that she does have information, which she had withheld to protect Cassandra and others, and to keep a vow she had made. She produces a letter from a man named Robert Clark, inviting Cassandra to come to his home, Briarton Park, as he has information about her family. Unfortunately, the letter is dated two-and-a-half years ago. When Cassandra arrives at Briarton Park, she discovers that Robert Clark is dead, and the property has a new owner, James Warrington. Cassandra soon learns more information about Mr. Clark and why he contacted her, but the answers she receives just bring more questions, and problems. She also finds herself the source of a lot of attention, especially from the local vicar, Mr. North, but also from James Warrington and his family, and others in the small town of Anston. Cassandra just wants answers about her family, but the information she learns results in hostility and suspicion from some people, who suspect her of having improper motives, and results in unsolicited advice from others, who seek to dictate her behavior and actions. She also has to figure out what to do with her life, as Mrs. Denton's death resulted in the closing of the school and loss of her job. The prospect of marriage is somewhat enticing, and she has possible options, but Cassandra also wants to work, and she is not sure she fits in or belongs in the level of society that her prospective suitors occupy. Her visit to Briarton Park and Anston will irrevocably change her life.

Rounding up to 4 stars:) Good book for readers
who enjoy regency era romance/mystery with a respectful love interest and independent heroine. I will definitely read more from the author.
This book has lots of my favorite tropes: heroine down on her luck, small town, inheritance mystery. This particular book was a little predictable (which is okay sometimes) and lukewarm love connection (also okay sometimes, I just prefer more of a slow burn.
Thank you to Net Galley and the Thomas Nelson Publishers for a complimentary copy on exchange for my honest option.

A cross between the works of Jane Austen and the stories of Downton Abbey.. The letter is the thread to the characters and plot of this novel. Cassandra follows the letter to find out the truth of her past. It leads her to those who do not want the past uncovered for savory and financial reasons. But it also leads her to a future - which I'm sure will be interesting to follow in the next book in the Houses of Yorkshire series. The mystery and suspense will grab the reader, such that it will be hard to put The Letter from Briarton Park down.

I loved The Letter From Briarton Park. What a great read. A bit of a mystery and romance combined leads to an interesting story with amazing characters. I enjoyed Cassandra and her story. James Warrington was amazing. A wonderful ending. I'm looking forward to reading more of this Authors work.
I give The Letter From Brairton Park 5 stars for its wonderful read.
I would recommend this book to Historical Fiction fans.

This book fell a little flat for me. It was pretty predictable and the connection between the two main characters seemed forced. I don't feel like they really got a chance to know each other and I was not invested in them. It seems like a lot of the plotline lagged. I enjoy this author, but this is not my favorite book that she has written.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

A mysterious letter leads to secrets, danger, an inheritance, and love - all the elements of an excellent Regency Romance. Letter at Briarton Park by Sarah E. Ladd is beautifully written, with well-developed characters, and lots of twists and turns. I was first drawn to this first installment in the House of Yorkshire series because of the location, and I was not disappointed. This will definitely be remembered as a favorite!
Many thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing a copy of this book. The opinions are my own.

If you are a judge a book by its cover kind of reader, this cover can't help but say wow! Read the story! So pretty, I think this is my favorite cover so far in 2022. The Letter from Briarton Park is the first book in Sarah E. Ladd's new The Houses of Yorkshire series. If you enjoyed The Heiress of Winterwood, The Headmistress of Rosemere or The Governess of Penwythe Hall I think you will also enjoy this story. Set during the Regency period in the rolling English countryside. It sounds idyllic, but mystery, murder and secrets surround this manor house.
I thought the cast of characters were well thought out and the plot built at a slightly slower but steady tempo. I had a pretty good idea of who the villain was early on, but I began to have some doubts in the last quarter of the story. I like it when authors keep you guessing. I hope that the next book in this series is a story about Rachel. She has a lot of spunk and would make a great heroine!
Thank you Thomas Nelson Fiction and Net Galley for the free copy of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.

I was sure that I would like the book, from the blurb, but didn't realize that I would LOVE this book. This is a mystery that will have you turning page after page. Although the plot is light and somewhat predictable, I did enjoy this. My first time reading from this author, but I'm now sure it won't be the last.

Absolutely adored this original story of a young woman looking for her past and a man longing to forget his. What started out as finding her family , the heroine is entrenched in a mystery /murder. I loved how the author gave her heroine depth of character and a past she could teach from. I adored the hero’s desire to do by his daughters and mother in law, who made life difficult. The characters grow, mature and become a part of your life. A sweet, clean romance, very refreshing!

"In Regency England, one letter will alter a young woman's fate when it summons her to Briarton Park - an ancient place that holds the secrets of her past and the keys to her future.
Cassandra Hale grew up knowing little about her parentage, and she had made peace with the fact that she never would. But Cassandra's world shifts when a shocking deathbed confession reveals a two-year-old letter from Mr. Clark, the master of Briarton Park, with hints to her family's identity. Stung by betrayal, she travels to the village of Anston only to learn Mr. Clark has since passed away.
James Warrington is a widower and the new master of Briarton Park, where he lives with his two young daughters, his sister, and his mother-in-law. When Cassandra appears at his doorstep with a letter from the previous owner and then proceeds to assist his family in an unexpected way, he is honor bound to help uncover the answers she seeks.
The more time Cassandra spends in Anston, the more she begins to suspect not everything - or everyone - is as they seem. As details emerge, the danger surrounding her intensifies. Using wit and intuition, she must navigate the treacherous landscapes between truth and rumor and between loyalty and deception if she is to uncover the realities of her past and find the place her heart can finally call home.
Sarah Ladd's latest Regency romance, first in the new Houses of Yorkshire series, combines mystery and intrigue with the best of historical storytelling."
Regency AND set in Yorkshire, for this girl currently obsessed with All Creatures Great and Small? Perfection!

Sarah E. Ladd is one of my favorite authors so I was very happy when I was approved for this title. This story was wonderful! It takes place in Regency England, and the main character is Cassandra Hale. She knows very little about her parentage, but when she receives a letter from Mr. Clark of Briarton Park her curiosity is aroused. She goes to Briarton Park in search of a family. This story grabbed my attention right from the beginning-mystery, romance and a gothic feel to it. I highly recommend this captivating regency tale-you will love it!

Sarah E. Ladd once again delivers a beautiful, atmospheric, romantic mystery. Some characters drove me absolutely mad, and others I wanted to become my new best friend. The villain wasn’t too difficult to figure out, I suppose, by the “why” of it all was the biggest mystery. And Cassandra was an ideal heroine: sympathetic, humble, resilient, brave and authentic. I can’t wait to see what Ladd comes up with next.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Cassandra is a young woman trying to find answers to her past. A letter given to her from her beloved mentor on her death bed led Cassandra to Briarton Park. James Warrington is the new owner of the house. The mystery surrounding her birth and the many people she meets along the way make for a wonderfully suspenseful novel. I really enjoyed this book. .

I really enjoyed The Letter from Briarton Park. The heroine, Cassandra receives a mysterious letter and sets out to find its meaning. As a result she encounters danger, secrets, mystery, and love.
*I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and this is my honest opinion.

The Letter from Briarton Park tells the story of Cassandra Hale, a young woman in 1811 who grew up in a girls' school raised by Mrs. Denton, the headmistress, never knowing her real parents. On her deathbed, Mrs. Denton gives Cassandra a letter that she had received years prior, asking Cassandra to go to an estate named Briarton Park in Anston, Yorkshire, to learn information about her background. Cassandra is broken-hearted at losing the woman who raised her as well as realizing that Mrs. Denton lied to her about not knowing who her parents were. Cassandra moves to Anston to search for information about who she is. No spoilers - but it's a good story which comes to satisfying ending. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an amazing story to read, it was intriguing from the first page. I loved the romance and the mystery that were interspersed throughout it as well. It was a great read!

The synopsis from "The Letter from Briarton Park" caught my eye even though I'm not really a fan of insta-romance novels. The story takes place in 1811 Regency England during the time when weaving and spinning mills began to be automated. With this turbulent backdrop in mind, Cassandra Hale, an orphan and later teacher suddenly finds herself homeless and without a job. A cryptic letter given her from her guardian on her deathbed pushes Cassandra to seek out information from her past. Grieving and unsure of her future, she arrives at Briarton Park, where Mr. Warrington, the master and mill owner finds himself attracted to the spunky young teacher.
Although the plot is light and somewhat predictable, the author did throw in quite a few unexpected plot twists that will keep you hooked until the last page.

There is a haunting air to this Regency romance. Layered with mystery, wonderful characters, and a hero who is sigh worthy, the book kept me fully engaged during a hectic season. The heroine is on a journey to find out who she is, but someone does not want her to know because if she does an inheritance is lost. This book is filled with great characters and a mystery that interlays the growing romance. I couldn't read it fast enough and enjoyed each page. So good!
