This is an easy to read, simple, and enjoyable devotional. If you are looking for a good gift for a loved one, this is great! You can pick it up whenever and read or follow along for 40 straight days.
I read this book at the perfect time! It’s important to know this collection of writings doesn’t read like typical devotional but rather faith-inspired personal essays. They felt relevant but I would have loved to see more scripture. I particularly liked the third and seventh essays, but I enjoyed Kate’s other books a bit more.
I'm going to do something I never do- write my review before I finish the book. That's because Good Enough by Kate Bowler is good enough now. It was good enough from chapter one. It's a book that I will buy hard copies of so I can share with friends even though I have this wonderful ARC from NetGalley and Convergent books.
I have read Bowler's previous books and loved them so its not a surprise that I was taken by her wisdom in this offering. I found this book to be timely as I ponder a post pandemic world. I loved the chapter on liminality, or the in-between space many of us find ourselves in these days. I appreciated the approachable format- 40 devotionals for a life of imperfection. In short, this book is a huge win for me and one I look forward to unpacking with my wise and articulate friends.
Many thanks NetGalley and Convergent books. And Kate Bowler- keep writing!
This collection of devotions is a pure delight. Filled with insightful reflections on scripture, faithful examinations of culture and temptations in our modern times, and a biting critique of the hussle obsession in our society, this book is one that I will joyfully press into the hands of my friends.
