Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio (St. Martin's Press) for the early listen!
What an amazing book! Loved it. The author (and the narrator) did a great job with all the characters! Enjoyed reading about Layla and her pursuit of what her dream really was and the love she found. Loved reading about Josh and he too finding love. Sad about Norton but he brought a lot of character to the story. And the cover! I LOVE IT!!!
Solid 4 stars

Ahhh this book, I have always loved Tracey Garvis Graves and this one did not disappoint. The back and forth from past by to present really set the scene for the story and I felt it was a really heartwarming story about how things don’t also go to plan but can open the door for better things

I absolutely gobbled up Heard It In a Love Song -- like all the best romances, I picked it up, and just had to keep reading.

Layla is a recently divorced music teacher who used to be the lead singer in a popular local cover band. (She'd play the intro of the song Layla while on stage; I appropriately hear that opening riff every time I type her name.) Josh comes onto the scene as a hot dad dropping his kindergarten daughter off for the first day of school.

I'm going to (somehow) refrain from listing everything I loved about the plot of this one (Norton the dog!) so that you can experience it fresh. Some of the elements that got me: open and thoughtful communication, the idea of second chances, and figuring out what it is you really want.

Author Tracey Garvis Graves did such a good job constructing these characters -- they're divorcees in their 30s, and I loved how their experience informed their actions and thoughts. The author's not just telling us what they've been through, but infusing that into the characters themselves. There are flashbacks throughout which also added to the story for me.

The narration by Andi Arndt was well done. The narrator's inflections helped with the listening experience. I did sort of wish that there were a different narrator for the chapters following Josh, but it wasn't a problem that there was just the one narrator.

5 stars, loved it, really is time for me to dive into TGG's backlist.

This could have been a wonderful book, but for me the slow burn was just too much. A little too typical for me.

Thank you for the opportunity to listen to an ALC of Heard it in a Love Song in exchange for my honest review. This book is the story of Layla and Josh getting a second chance at love after their marriages end. The story alternates between the past and present introducing the listener to the past relationships of Layla and Liam as well as Josh and Kimmy. and to present day.. The book tends to describe both Layla and Josh's handling of their post divorce lives and learning to navigate life on their own. Josh and Layla start out as friends and we slowly see their relationship bud into something special. We also see Layla get a second chance at performing on stage with her guitar something she had to give up because her first husband didn't take her passion for music seriously. I loved the references to so many songs that I know and love. I think that the narrator did an excellent job. I also must say that the cover of this book deserves so many stars! It is absolutely stunning and after listening to the book I can see the cover artwork is so fitting to the content - I'm a huge fan of this author but I' could certainly see myself picking up this book at a bookstore based on the cover even if I didn't know the author!

Meh. It’s a typical romance story.

The only thing that saves it a bit are the flashbacks to the demise of Layla and Josh’s first marriages and the fact they’re generally likable characters.

Not a bad story, just nothing new.

What a refreshing read! It sucked me right in and I had a hard time putting it down. We have two main characters in their 30s, both divorced or separated, and trying to figure out what comes next for them both. You could categorize it as a “friends to lovers” romance, but that would be doing the story a disservice, as it is so much more than that. Layla in particular needs to recover from a marriage with a domineering man and needs to figure out who she is now - she once starred in a local band and loved performing in clubs but hasn’t done it in a rather long time. She now works as an elementary school music teacher. Josh has his act more together in terms of career because he’s a pretty successful electrician with his own business - but he’s still tied to his soon-to-be ex-wife because of the mutual love they have for their kindergartener daughter, Sasha. They are both gradually adjusting to their newly single, more solitary lives.

Throughout the book, there are flashbacks, so we gradually learn the events that made Layla and Josh who they are today. This was quite an effective technique because each flashback was brought on by something that happened or was said in the present timeline.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.

I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient, and one reason I sped through it so quickly. The audiobook’s narrator is Andi Arndt and she did a fine job with both the female and male voices, but it was harder to distinguish between the current-day timeline and the flashbacks on the audio. The ebook galley I read has the flashbacks in italic type which was an easy and obvious signal that it was a flashback. Once or twice on the audiobook I realized a bit late that I was hearing a flashback - not at all the narrator’s fault, though.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book and to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Such an amazing story of love and finding yourself after divorce. The story is coming to us from two POVs and it is moving from present to the past in a form of memories. Writing is absolutely beautiful and touching. I loved the rockstar Layla and how she grew as a person.
The audio narration was great, all emotions were caught and displayed. The only thing that I did not like was the way the narrator made male characters sound. No one talks like that, and it was bothering me a lot while listening.
Overall, amazing book that will leave you fully in love.

An easy to listen to story about divorce, second chances at love, and discovering the type of love you deserve. This story didn't WOW me, but I enjoyed it and found it entertaining enough. Because I listened to it, I would have preferred that there was a male voice for Josh's part and a female voice for Layla's part. Thank you, NetGalley for my advanced copy.

I really wanted to love and enjoy this book, but it was just too much of a slow burn for me. Going off into memory lane really didn’t work for me or help to connect me to the characters. I did DNF about 18% of the way through the book. At that point, I simply didn’t care to hear more.

I do think a lot of other people would totally dig this book. It just wasn’t for me.

The narrator was pleasant to listen to. I’d definitely listen to another audible by her.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Full disclosure: I like romance, but, I think I probably like romances that are a little less wholesome than this book. To be fair, I enjoyed the story, but because I listened to the audiobook I could not get over the narrator's ridiculously dramatic reading of it. It was so distracting that it made me dislike the book a little. I did not need the added drama to every single sentence, it could have just been read normally in most parts.

A story about second chance love and being true to oneself. I found both of the main characters very relatable, and loved watching Layla and Josh’s relationship develop as they were still dealing with the messiness of their past relationships. I also enjoyed how the author shifted between the past and present timelines and between the characters POVs. One note: I listened to the audiobook, and I do wish there was a second narrator for the male perspective like in her last book.

Heard It in a Love Song was one of my most anticipated reads(in this case, Audios) of the year. I'm a huge Tracey Garvis Graves fan and this was such an engaging story about two people healing after divorce and learning to move forward. I was rooting for both of them to find some peace.

It moves at a nice, slow pace which fit appropriately with the theme. Moving on is a slow process.

Many thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for gifting me both the audio and digital ARCs of the latest story by Tracey Garvis Graves - 4 stars!

Layla and Josh are both fresh out of broken relationships. Layla was married to Liam for 10 years - he had never put her first, didn't encourage her dream of playing in a band, and they had very different ideas about money. Now divorced, Layla is working as an elementary music teacher when she meets Josh, the dad of a kindergartner. Josh is in the process of a divorce from Kimmy, his high school sweetheart, and navigating shared parenting. Is it the right time for a new relationship? Is this a rebound?

I really liked this story. Each of the characters felt real and relatable as they got their feet back underneath them after heartbreak. It was more of a story of second chances, being true to oneself, and being ready for a real relationship rather than just a soppy romance novel, which I loved! Great supporting cast of characters including Norton!

The narration by Andi Arndt was great - she had a comforting, relaxing voice that I really liked listening to and she even did the men's voices well too!

Wow, I absolutely LOVED this one. It was such a beautiful story of second chance love, while also telling the story simultaneously of the dissolution of both of the main characters previous marriage.

I thought it was SO well done. From the cover and title I was expecting something more 80s/Daisy Jones-ish but this was more contemporary women's fiction. Thought it was totally great even if the cover vibe doesn't fit the book.

I really like this author so was thrilled to be given the opportunity to read and review prior to its release. This book met and exceeded my expectations. It is so nice to read about people with some life experience. Grown adults with life experiences warts and all and following them as they recover emotionally and move forward. I truly adored this book. Read this one and then do yourself a courtesy and read her whole catalog. She always does great research and writes with such eloquence about really life. I very much look forward to what comes next. The narration of the audiobook is wonderful.

First off, this cover gave me all the feels. I wondered how much I loved the cover would leave me disappointed in the book itself. But it did not. The book, too, gave me all the feels!

It was simple enough of a love story. But also that’s what made it so relatable. Two very relatable people with broken relationships and broken hearts. I actually really liked them both from the beginning. Josh’s venture into online dating actually made me laugh out loud. And I loved how music was weaved through the story, from the title to the prose to the beginning, middle and end. It made the romance not the only main focus, which I always appreciate in love stories. Gives them more depth. I would definitely recommend this one!

Layla is a divorced music teacher and former band singer / guitar player. Josh is a recently separated electrician. This story follows both of their lives and their new forming relationship. The chapters alternate between each of their points of view and histories. I really enjoyed this read. The characters are likable and relatable. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audiobook.

Delightful story about following your dreams and listening to your heart. Some great lessons here. I love the musical aspect throughout the book.

I adore all of Tracey Garvis Grave’s novels and this was no exception. Each has their own storyline, but the true human emotions draws me in. The conflicts are believable and all emotions felt deeply. Heard it in a Love Song was very realistic and I enjoyed the struggle of each well developed character. Specifically, Layla a music teacher & Josh her student’s newly separated father. Is this just a rebound or where exactly is Josh’s heart? The development of post divorce situations was realistically saddening, but their newfound love was heartwarming. I thought Andi Arndt did a great job narrating this novel.

Thank you Netgalley, MacMillan Audio and the lovely Tracey Garvis Graves for this audiobook.
