Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book! I really loved She Gets the Girl! This is a sweet coming-of-age story featuring two sapphic main characters as they enter their first year of college. This novel does a great job of taking the characters from annoyances to true friends and then on to lovers. I loved the deep, intimate friendship that develops between Molly and Alex over the course of the book. The story also touches on some more serious topics like alcoholism and shows the characters supporting each other through tough times. My only complaint was that there wasn't a little bit more at the end so we could have more of Molly and Alex being happy together. Despite that, I still really liked the slow burn romance aspect and thought the chemistry between the characters was excellent.
This was my first Rachael Lippincott novel and it did not disappoint! I have heard a lot of great things about this author and he previous books and after reading the premise of this one, I was immediately hooked! Also, the fact that it was co-written with her wife is just so cute????
The story over all was sweet and cute and I enjoyed it as well as the characters. I definitely recommend. Thank you for the advanced reading copy.
This book was nice! I enjoyed the relationship between the protagonists. It was nice to see the trust and friendship build between them, and the rollerskating practice-date was precious. Where I struggled a little bit was in the parts where Alex and Molly were separate. I didn't feel as connected to their internal monologues. It felt more like I was being told things about them rather than experiencing them, and I found their relationships to other characters were a little bit forced, like the secondary characters were mostly tools to help the protagonists in their growth journey rather than people, and that took away from the enjoyment for me. But there's a cute romance, some cute scenes, and some good banter. Worth a read for sure!
Alex’s love life, is a train wreck that hasn’t finished crashing. Molly''s train has never left the station.
Alex needs to prove to her absent ex that she’s able to be faithful and upstanding (worthy of a second chance) while Molly hasn’t ever had a real conversation with the girl she’s been dreaming about since they were in grade school together. When both young women end up at the same college, in the same social circle, there’s only one practical solution: they’re going to help each other get the girl of their respective dreams.
The writing is competent, the pace cracking, the characterizations sharp. Each mother-daughter relationship is the mirror opposite of the other. This is a believable, funny, heartfelt exploration of life and love in your freshman year.

SHE GETS THE GIRL by @rachaellippincott is a great YA LGBTQIA+ rom com! Thanks so much @simonandschuster and @netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. This one publishes April 5!
I have only read one other book by this author, Five Feet Apart, and I LOVED it! I was so excited when I heard about this book!
Alex and Molly couldn’t be more different. Except for the fact that they both like girls. They come from totally different family backgrounds, and money situations, but they don’t let that stop them from what they want. I really enjoyed the unlikely friendship they formed, which was based solely to help each other “get their girl.” Their friendship is just what is needed when embarking on your first year of college/university.
This is a great YA book filled with everything I love about the genre. The big emotions of adulthood from the lens of YA: finding yourself, not changing yourself to be liked by others, standing up for yourself to your family, finding love, realizing your own worth.
I also thought the tie in to culture (specifically being Korean) with Molly’s mother was handled well- nobody should be ashamed of where they came from, and nobody else should make them feel that way.
To me, this book was all about finding yourself, and realizing that nobody is perfect, but owning up to your mistakes makes all the difference, and that you should always choose your happiness. Alex and Molly depicted this perfectly, and I really enjoyed their budding romance!
Also, this cover is just so fun!
Alex and Molly disliked each other from the get go, but when one strikes a deal with another, accomplishing what they're seeking, could this partnership turn into something more?
I was so excited to receive an ARC for this book!! The story truly captivated me from the start. The slow-burn and the tension between the two characters leaving the reader truly on the edge of their seat was definitely my favourite aspect of this experience. Seeing how two polar opposites come together and form a connection keeps the suspense and energy of the story going.
I think the only thing I was unsatisfied with was the quick pacing and anticlimactic ending of the book, I felt like it needed to be a bit longer to truly let the emotions and the connection between the two mc’s flow and run through.
A solid 4/5, would recommend for anyone interested in reading a wlw romance where slow-burn and angst are key factors in this blossoming relationship :)
A great coming of age story and learning about what love is and finding the true you. Molly is the shy awkward girl who has been fantasizing about Cora for years and is hopeful that heading off to post secondary school will give her the confidence to act on her feelings. Add in Alex a bit of a rebel who takes pity on Molly and agrees to help her get the girl. The story unfolds and Molly begins to question if her fantasy crush can become a reality. A tender love story perfect for teens and young adults . Story was a bit predictable but still worth the read.
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own.
I would recommend this book to friends and family .
I loved this so much!! After I started getting into the book I felt like I could not put it down! I loved the friendship developing between Molly and Alex and how you could really see how they were bringing out the best in each other. I just spent the whole book really cheering for them to see the love they had for each other. The conflict between each of them and their families was just so heartbreaking but added so much emotion to the book. I did feel like the family conflict and resolution with Molly was a little rushed and felt like it could have used maybe a little bit more conversation and focus. But otherwise this book was great to read and I would love to read more from the authors!

I’ve never felt so in love reading a book. It overwhelmed me, consumed me. I felt at home in these pages. I’ve ‘fallen’ for book characters and stories before but never like this before. I didn't feel like I was reading about ideal unattainable people, I felt like I was reading about real people who I wanted in my real life. I enjoyed this read so much because it felt natural and homey and freeing.
She Got The Girl is so heavily dependent on character development which is where I LIVE. I love character development more than probably anything. This book is jammed packed with it, both coming from the influence of other characters, and from within characters themselves. It’s a great and heartwarming mix. The characters are diverse in race (Korean MC!), sexuality, gender, home lives, education, income etc. We often see multiple sides to circumstances and situations which is very interesting.
The plot was cliche in the way that all good rom-coms have been done in some way before, each with their own creative spin on a tried and true story. It was comforting and heartwarming and funny. There was drama and stakes but none that caused any stress for me as a reader.
We are dropped into the middle of two stories that have already begun and had some background to them, which makes the exposition difficult to naturally achieve. Surprisingly the exposition was done fairly well, although it was rough in some places. It could have been a lot worse and as the story went on, the better the exposition got.
The span of time that the book covers is very little so the pacing was easy to do, but it was odd in some places. It did seem slightly rushed in some places but it’s hard to tell if that was a writing or reading issue. I wouldn’t put it past my brain to think it was too rushed because I wanted to sit in the moment longer.
This book was everything I’ve ever wanted as a young queer child, where the drama had nothing to do with sexuality, and it didnt stress me out and of course the MC is my ideal type. Logically I know that this book has some small reading flaws, as does every single book, which is why it only gets 4 out of 5 stars but I’ve never felt better reading a book as I did this one. I loved it.
Let me begin by saying this is the ya contemporary romance novel my little gay soul needed. I've been dying to read it since I heard of its release and am so excited I had the opportunity to read the ARC. It's always so comforting to see yourself represented in stories. I was fully invested in Alex and Molly's story from start to finish. I loved their dynamic so much and was rooting for them the entire time. I also loved the development and growth that happened with both characters and how they helped each other to be their authentic selfs. The book addressed many important themes (addiction, racism, etc) without being too heavy. Each of the characters felt fully rounded and real, which is something I always look for in stories. Overall, it was a light and fun romance, and I got everything that I wanted out of it. Definitely a new comfort read!
(Huge thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC)
Really enjoyable story with cute, quirky characters I loved the diversity and thought that the main cast had such relatable qualities! I wish we could have gotten juat a little more depth within them. Thanks for letting me read this book!
Oh my gosh this was the sweetest thing ever! Molly and Alex’s dynamic from start to finish was beautifully portrayed from reluctant accomplices to friends to being head over heals for each other. The pacing was done incredibly well and no matter how much I read I just needed more. This allowed the whole story to flow together very well and made for a very fun read!
This book was absolutely adorable! I loved the unexpected friendship and bond that formed between Alex and Molly. These two characters are complete opposites but also surprisingly similar. I loved how each character was written. The writing style of the book was very easy to follow along and it kept me captivated!
I really enjoyed how Alex and Molly seemed to have the same problems that they were dealing with, but they were portrayed in such different ways. They both went through so much growth throughout the novel.
I absolutely loved following Alex and Molly’s journeys!

"She Gets the Girl" is a slow-burn f/f romance that is hard not to get invested in. It's pretty predictable, but because of the harder themes it tackles, the book is never boring or unengaging. "She Gets the Girl" is certainly overlong, but it's a complex and rich book that I would recommend to those interested.

Alex and Molly are polar opposites in the dating world. Alex is a player who is afraid of commitment but wants to make it work with her "kind of ex, kind of girlfriend" Natalie. Molly is a girl with zero skills when it comes to dating. When Alex sees that Molly is struggling with how to approach her crush, Cora, Alex sees an opportunity. Alex wants to teach Molly her ways and get her and Cora together. Molly reluctantly agrees, but her and Alex start growing close... closer than they thought they would.
This book was SO adorable! Ngl, I wasn't feeling this book for the first quarter or so because the one protagonist's personality just ticked me off but as the book progressed and that part died down, I was pulled in!
One of the protagonists, Alex, really reminded me of myself in the way she thought and acted (in the 2nd half of the book) which was super cool. Because the characters were so relatable, the story was really easy to love.
I really enjoyed how unique this story was. I don't know if it's been done before but I personally haven't read anything like it so that was cool!
Thanks to @netgalley and @simonandschuster for the e-arc!
This very anticipated romance was a total hit for me. An enemy to friend to lovers story that gave me major “she’s all that” vibes, but in a good, nostalgic way. Both new to town and freshman in college, Alex and Molly meet at a party. They could not be more different from one an other. They get on each others nerves right away but when they run into each other again Alex offers Molly her help to get her dream girl. Even though they can't stand one an other, Molly accepts after learning that Alex is doing this to prove her worth to her own girlfriend. Not to spoil the story but as expected, as time passes they truly connect and things change. The story takes place over a short period of time (6 weeks maybe) and it ends very sweetly.
I don’t always read YA/NA because sometimes I find it harder to relate. However, it was not the case here. I found that both Alex and Molly were highly relatable because the authors have such a good way of making us connect with the characters vulnerabilities. I enjoyed witnessing Molly growing into herself and learning how to let the world see her. The shopping scene, in particular, struck a chord for me. Then there is Alex, who had to grow up before her time, and now struggles to let people in. Her journey was not easy but I loved how her internal dialogues showcased her self awareness (that's not to say that she acted accordingly though!) and in the end she was able to let this part of herself out. Truly beautiful.
It seems that this book, in part, may have been inspired by the authors own love story which adds a whole other HEA dimension. My only complaint is that I would have loved to see the MC together and get their families reactions etc! I look forward to more books from these authors!

I loved this so much! The whole thing was super adorable and I loved both characters and their relationship. The only thing is, I wish it had been a little longer so certain elements could be fully fleshed out and we could see more of their relationship. But other than that everything about it was great!
I've been struggling with YA contemporaries lately so I'm really happy I liked this one! Maybe its because it was set in university instead of high school, but either way I enjoyed it!
If you're looking for something cute and fluffy but still pulls on the heartstrings a bit, this is for you! (Those last 50 pages or so made me quite emotional.)
She Gets the Girl was a delight to read! I love a nice slow burn, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, YA romcom and this one absolutely met my expectations! While a little predictable at times, I loved the path the story took and it was a joy to watch our two leads (slowly) discover their feelings for each other. I'm a sucker for romance tropes, and this book was full of them, stopping just short of being cliché. Overall, I'd recommend this book to all fans of the romcom genre, especially if you're looking for a quick read that still has some substance (I read this in less than 24 hours!).

I enjoyed this book, but the start was a bit slow. After I read the first 100 pages it started to pick up. I think my student's would like this book, but I would market this to my more mature students or even grade 11-12 students.
If you love YA rom coms like “The Half of It”, “She’s All That” and “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”, this is the book for you.
The storyline just makes sense in every way. I felt like a friend told me the story about how she met her girlfriend. The characters are very endearing. I was emotionally drawn to both and couldn’t wait for them to find their well-deserved happiness. I enjoyed them every step of the way. Although I didn’t want the story to end, I flew through the pages, excited about what would happen next.
This is a very well-written and entertaining YA adult love story that is important, relevant and relatable - especially for young lesbians out there. We need more of this representation ASAP!
QOTD: Are you a Molly or an Alex? I was (and still am) a Molly through and through, and although I didn’t have a friend like Alex, I still got the girl! 😊
