I didn't LOVE this but it was well written and I enjoyed all the different parts.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher!
First I would rate this 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
Beck Lyons is the main character in this book that starts in the 1960's. In the first part of the book, she is a coming-of-age character who is dealing with the tragic loss of her mother and brother, newer family with a stepmother and stepsister. She also deals with the pressure of coming from a prominent family with a long history along with the fact her father is a United States Senator. In my opinion worst of all she has an overbearing grandmother who goes by the nickname of Panda this lady will go to any lengths to protect the family reputation and legacy and keep away in potential jeopardy to reelection chances for the Senator. This lady reminds me of the matriarch on the daytime soap opera show. Beck is also trying to figure out how to be a teen she has her stepsister to learn from, but she is not always the best to follow. One mistake as a teenager sets the stage for the rest of this book .
Now I know this is the authors story but one part of this book I had an issue with and almost made not finish was the story line of Beck getting her religious calling and exploring that as I am not on the religious side of things. But there was a draw from this book that made it a fast read and wanting to see what happened in the end. So give it a read.
The idea of rebellion, rock stars and politics should be an indication of a must read - not always!
I struggled to connect, I wanted the ideas to gel and become a meaty story, Unfortunately this book was too hard for me to get into, I felt disappointed!;
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
