Such a fun read! Loved this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC.
"Live Like a Vulcan, Love Like a Wookiee, Laugh Like a Hobbit" by Robb Pearlman with illustrations by Jason Kayser is a book that draws on the wisdom of pop culture characters to offer life lessons.
A guy at a pop culture convention stops in a bar and meets some unusual characters: a wizard, a hobbit and a Wookiee. While they converse, they show how life lessons can be gleaned from many forms of pop culture. Along the way there are speed rounds and hundreds of nerdy references from the worlds of Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and other franchises.
The book is a lighthearted and entertaining read, but a bit shallow and kind of pop psychology. It is a quick read and would be a fun gift for that superfan in your life.

This was a fun, quirky motivational book. Great tips on how to be happy and be yourself. I loved the tone of this one.
This was a fun romp through pop culture with key takeaways from familiar shows shared with the reader.
One thing that I completely agreed with was how some shows (e.g. Bablyon 5 and The Expanse) are a breath of fresh air in a sea of programs that can be similar.
First off, this is a very quick read and a very short book. That doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s a lot of fun and it’s interesting to see how your everyday life can be compared to so much we already know in pop culture. I will say that the name of the book is what caught my eye and made me want to read it. Definitely recommend for my fellow nerds and fans of pop culture.
A Vulcan, a Wookiee and a Hobbit walk into a bar....
This book was nothing like I thought it would be. An engaging story of five unlikely, mismatched friends in a bar after a con, this book is full of witty life lessons all themed around pop culture. There are deep moments of thoughtfulness and laugh out loud moments all together, and the underlying theme is that of acceptance: accepting yourself for who you are; accepting others for themselves, and accepting that everyone is different, and likes different things and it's all OK.
A funny, intriguing read.
~Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~
This was a quick fun read. It was full of pop culture and was very entertaining. Also gives you some things that will make you think a bit more.
This book was fun, full of pop culture wisdom, and provided lots of food for thought. I found it a bit long, though, but certainly entertaining.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
What can I say about this book. it was fun, and funny and just a neat little book for people that enjoy pop culture.
My inner geek is in love. Filled with humour and pop culture references this book filled the void of missing out on Fan Expo and Comic Con. This book Gave me Hitchhiker vibes- light and fluffy on the outside but there is depth to the content of these friends conversations and their different outlooks and opinions on life in general.
Thanks NetGalley, Robbie Pearlman and the publisher for a copy to review
Fun quick read following a gathering of pop culture fans in a comic con..interesting and nerdy
I liked it
This is a lighthearted yet insightful book on all the pop culture references that anyone from generation X is well familiar with. It offers a drop of inspiration for shaping conversations and makes one wish one really had friends like the characters in the book. Or perhaps it's marketing to one day dress up and visit a comic con?
Live Like a Vulcan, Love Like a Wookiee, Laugh Like a Hobbit should be required reading for everyone right now.
Can we just talk about my favorite quote? And it was hard to pick just one. "I think we need to treat everyone like a collectible that can offer all of us, even the greater good, something valuable, and that they deserve our respect."
This book was the perfect mix of humor, snark, and heartwarming sentiments that not only encouraged a love of many different genres but an acceptance of that which you may not be comfortable with about yourself or others. Each chapter is short but packs a wallop of a life lesson that is perfect in this short attention span world we have found ourselves in at the moment. Regardless of whether or not you wear your fandom like the badge of honor it is or enjoy it in private, READ THIS BOOK! You will love it. I promise.
Are you looking for a fun read that will give you a different perspective on pop culture? Then you should pick this book up and enjoy. This is a quick, fun, and fascinating book and I hard a hard time putting it down!
3.5 stars. This was fun to read. The subtitle says it all: Life lessons from pop culture. Yep. And it’s chock full of nuggets of wisdom, some that I know, some was a huh that’s right kind of moment. And from various movies and tv series too. I didn’t get all the movies and tv show references, but the point are the lessons anyway. Thanks to Smart Pop Books, BenBella Books, Inc.
I enjoyed this one.
I enjoyed reading this book from the perspective of someone who is uncertain about cosplaying. Not everyone has people in their lives that want to go to conventions,
I like that the chapters focused on specific pop culture refrences/theme within a conversation between four people. This continued pattern had the change of becoming predictable. Robb Pearlman used several tricks to ensure the reader got there fill of the movies/books/shows/cartoons that made us.
Within the story, we see positive and negative of human nature in a way that is relatable. I won't spoil how.
Overall, it was a quick read or non-fiction and fiction. Makes me wonder...did this conversation happen or did Robb Pearlman make it up. Given the wide variety of people that attend comic conventions, who knows...
This book warmed my heart.
I don’t have much to say... if you recognize all the ‘characters’ from the title, just read it!
Chock full of pop culture references, nerds of all fandoms will enjoy Live Like a Vulcan, Love like a Wookiee, Laugh like a Hobbit. Set in a bar (where the poor waiter is alone and having a nervous breakdown) after a local convention, our hero stumbles upon a table of cosplayers from the local comic convention and is invited to join them. They share stories, and give life lessons built upon those stores. There are so many references! Princess Bride, Never Ending Story, Star Wars, LOTR, Star Trek, 80s console games like Donkey Kong and the Pac Man franchise, Final Fantasy, Alien, and many many more.
A great book for the nerds in your life, I really enjoyed this book. It's also pretty short, with short chapters, so it's easy to sit and read a little or the whole thing.

Live Like Vulcan, Love Like a Wookie, Laugh Like a Hobbitt by Robb Pearlman
My inner geek is in love. Like the Fellowship of the Ring this group of fanboys have been brought together to share their wisdom… at a pub…. In cosplay. Their gift for gab knows no bounds- they discuss everything and anything and it always comes back to the lessons learned from their favourite characters from their favourites fandoms. Filled with humour and pop culture references This will fill the void of missing out on Fan Expo and Comic Con.
For lovers of fandoms, cosplay, and all things geek. Gave me Hitchhiker vibes- light and fluffy on the outside but there is depth to the content of these friends conversations and their different outlooks and opinions on life in general.
ThaNks to @netgalley and @benbellabooks for my gifted copy in return for an honest review
