Wow, I loved this even though I was unsure about an alien romance. And even though it’s cheesy at times, the writing is great and well done. Can’t wait for the next one!

Okay, where to begin? When Spicy BookTok told me I had to read this book, I was, well, a little hesitant. I've never read an Alien Romance, and I honestly never planned to. I finally caved when I saw the new special edition book offered up on NetGalley. I figured there was nothing to lose, and I jumped in.
Ice Planet Barbarians is one of those books that sucks you in. I enjoyed seeing how the plot played out. The world created was interesting enough, and the story was entertaining. It is your typical fated mates book but with the added spice of Aliens instead of a paranormal creature. The spice level was 2/3 Pumpkin Spice Lattes. There were lots (and I do mean lots) of graphic sex, but nothing too taboo or kinky. If I'm honest, some of the sex scenes were a bit too repetitive but still entertaining.
The plot was interesting, and the world was fascinating, but I kind of wish I would have gotten to know the characters more. Instead, we were thrust into the action, and I was left a bit disappointed when it came to character development. I'm a character-driven reader, so I wanted the characters to be three-dimensional and not so flat. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the characters and loved how strong Georgie was. It was also entertaining to see Georgie from Vektal's perspective.
All in all, I enjoyed it. I'm going to have to continue on in the series. The book was entertaining, and I'm invested in the story.
I absolutely adored this book! Did I blush the whole time I read this book? 100% but so worth it. Georgie is an amazing character who deals very well with her circumstances considering. Also Vektal is a babe. Can't wait to continue with this story!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
I’ve been on a little bit of a sci-fi romance kick lately and I’ll admit that when I saw this advanced reader copy I thought it sounded like a lot of fun. What I didn’t know is that it’s a re-release of the first book in a series of like 22 books and I’d get sucked in by the humor and read through 7 in one weekend. Ice Planet Barbarians was by far my favorite because Georgie was such a funny narrator. She was everything I like in a heroine, sassy, bold, and adventurous. Her alien mate, Vektal, while an alpha male, he was super gentle and sweet and wanted to do everything for Georgie which made their interactions really sweet and as they didn’t speak the same language for a good portion of the book, extremely funny.
Here’s my R rated warning. This book (and the series!) is filled with sex. Vektal, while humanoid, does not have a human body and his equipment while similar, does have some differences. If you can’t appreciate those differences you may not enjoy all of those scenes and truthfully, they were some of the most humorous so it was hard to skim. So, I gave in and embraced the weird alien sex so I could appreciate Georgie and Vektal’s story.
If you’re interested in a different type of sci-fi novel and don’t mind a LOT of sex, then this is the series for you! I will say, sex aside, the story was unique, the characters were fun and lovely to get to know, and I loved all of the ladies that crash landed in that cargo hold. I knew by the middle of the book that I was going to keep reading this series. These books are quick reading and a bit addictive.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review and it was honest.
I will start off with the only real issue I had with this book, which was a formatting issue of the two epilogues. They put the SECOND epilogue (the one which takes place later chronologically) before the epilogue that takes place closer to the end of the main story.
This book is probably unlike any other romance you have read before-- Focusing on the romance between an alien and stranded human, its certainly an original plot. The sex scenes are pretty hot and, on the whole, the plot moves quickly.
While this series wasn't really for me in the end, I can see the greater appeal. If you want a 20+ book series that is original and fast paced, this would be a good series for you.
A word of warning for readers going into this is that while the book on the whole is pretty tame when it comes to violence and sexual violence (there are scenes with dubious consent as characters cannot understand each other), the first chapter is pretty brutal. While the scene is in no way graphic, there is a very real implied violence done to one of the side characters. However you could totally skip the first chapter and probably still get the gist of what happened if that is a trigger for you.
This series has literally blown up on Booktok this year so when I had the opportunity to read the special print edition with the bonus materials, I decided to see what the hype was about. That said I didn't have high expectations. I expected mostly a minimal story about aliens and having crazy sex with aliens. This story was more than that, there was actually a good story here. I really liked the details and the premise. It was a fun read. The story had so many possibilities and I wish that the author had explored developing the characters more. There was so much potential that I feel wasn't capitalized on as it should have been. And wow does it have some steamy scenes!! Were they over the top? Definitely!! Regardless I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Hopefully there will be more stories with a little more substance from this author in the future.

The first time I read this book it wasn't that bad. But after reading it for the second time, granted the Special Edition is slightly different, I just got the ick. While the book was tropey and I can see how the premise can hook the reader in, the execution was just not for me. I will say that the one thing this novel excelled at was making this an easy read to get through, as I didn't have to do much thinking. But that did not outweigh the use of the breeding trope, the insta-love trope, and the thinly veiled misogyny. The breeding trope gave me major ick and I am not a fan of insta-love ever, I feel like it devalues the relationship. Furthermore, this book made it try to seem like the men were "progressive", but in reality, there was still a lot of misogyny present. Now I realize that these aliens are living in a stone-age-like society, but it just bothered me how the alien men viewed the women. This is a book that I might have enjoyed a bit more when I was a bit younger and a sucker for the basic, predictable tropes, but currently, it is just not for me.
Congratulations on the gorgeous special edition cover art!
I don't know if it is good or bad that I found these books 5-6 years after they were written. <Googles blue body paint and horns> he won't mind a bonus Christmas gift. Don't worry he's fine, we resonate.
Now I have to figure out when to read the 22 other books since of course I have so many other books I want/need to read coming up. Hmmm taps non-existent brain. F$%k it, starts downloading. JK JK I have patience .. .(no no I don't)
And thanks @_aquabookworm for the Twitter play by play from when you read it, same girl, same.
How to encapsulate a story of alien abduction that turned into an alien saving 12 captive human females from dying on a frozen planet only to help repopulate their dying tribe ♨☕🔥🍿😏👤❄🍆
Well I don't have to tell you about this book because I am late to the party since it exploded on here earlier this year and I watched going ooo that looks fun as I gorged myself on YA books. I am still doing that, don't worry.
But seriously if you love sci-fi romance or are curious definitely recommend cause the smut is strong with this one!
Thank you berkleyromance and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
I have a confession to make. I read this book when it first came out as a self published book and loved it. In fact I have read to whole series and love it. I am so happy that this has a chance to reach more people who I hope with be just as thrilled with it. That being said this is a very well written book with in-depth characters that draw you right in. It also has great world building that makes you feel like you could actually be there. If you love your alien's sweet but with plenty of steam this is the book for you.
If you're looking for something completely out of the box and different from tradition romance, this book is for you!
I've seen this book all around and added it to my TBR with the intention of eventually getting to it. I'm so happy I gave it a go. It's smutty fun. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking to escape reality with a sexy and light read.
I had an absolute blast reading Ice Planet Barbarians. This was fast-paced, sexy fun introducing a unique world and fascinating characters and I was all in. I totally embraced the crazy situation Georgie found herself in and enjoyed it all.
I really liked Georgie, her attitude, and how she went with the flow after being kidnapped by aliens. I loved Vektal. He was sweet and sexy. Who knew a blue alien with horns and a tail would do it for me?! I really liked the two of them meeting and the language barrier between them as they try to communicate. I loved the building sexual tension and the questions they both had about the other. I was excited for what would happen next and I loved them falling for each other. Their relationship is pretty instant but how it was presented made total sense to me and I loved it. This story is all about the entertainment factor and these awesome and very opposite characters coming together with some really hot, steamy times.
I thought this was a great series starter. I like how everything was explained in a matter-of-fact way with good details and development. The pace was great and I loved getting both Vektal and Georgie’s POVs. I liked meeting the other women and enjoyed all their unique personalities. I liked meeting the other aliens in Vektal’s tribe and how fascinated they were by the women. There was a lot of humor and fun scenes mixed in with all of them and I enjoyed the banter.
Was this a bit out there? You betcha! But was it super entertaining? Oh yeah! It was a fun, sexy story filled with great humor, snark, and heat. It was the overall story and entertainment value that had me hooked and has me looking forward to more stories in the series.
The cover for this special edition is amazing. It is so well done and I can see it being a huge selling point. I enjoyed this story a lot more than I thought I would. It is very A Court of Thorns and Roses meets Avatar. I enjoy a good mating trope. I’m definitely happy I read it overall!
A quick, entertaining read that immediately sucked me into the story and kept me reading until I finished the romance in one sitting! I loved the dynamics between the protagonist, the world building, and how it helped me escape my world to dive into this somewhat ridiculous sci-fi story.
So this is the story that everyone was talking about this summer and I just had to join in finally! Although there is a lot of cringe moments and dialogue and everything, overall it was such a fun read! I didn't take the story too seriously which helped enjoy it, otherwise this would be a different review. It's a fun read, nothing else.
I had seen this title being talked about on TikTok so I requested it without knowing anything about it. I was not prepared.
Georgie is abducted by aliens and becomes the de facto leader of the abducted girls apparently bound for sex slavery in another universe. When she forces the ship to crash land on an ice planet and the aliens to abandon the girls, she has to set out to try to find help. She ends up finding Vektal, a giant blue barbarian who makes his home on the planet and falls in love with Georgie at first sight. Lots and lots of wild sex happens on Georgie’s quest to save her shipmates.
I will be the first to admit that this is not the type of book I typically read. While I do read the occasional “spicy” book, they tend to be of the Regency persuasion. This is probably the first sci-fi romance book I’ve read. And despite the amateurish writing, complete lack of characterization, and too-frequent magical plot crutches, the story is interesting. It was a fast and fun read and I would consider reading more in the series just to find out what happens, because I would know not to expect too much. Fun if you’re into spicy books and sci-fi, but not earth-shatteringly good.
I weirdly loved this book! I can totally see the TIKTOK hype. If you haven't heard of this book, it's about Georgie who gets abducted by aliens and lands on an Ice Planet where she meets a blue alien named Vektal. I enjoyed the writing style of this book as the author grabs the reader's attention from book one. Everything is well explained in this book that nothing is confusing and it's like a movie being played in your head. The world building was well done which was complex but not in a way where you will be lost. The pacing was fast to keep readers entertained and it's also a short book! I think around 150ish but with the bonus chapters in the exclusive edition its longer!
This book is written in both Vektal and Georgie's pov and let me say that I enjoyed both characters very much. Georgie is such a brave character who helps fight for the other girls with her and risks her life in a new world. Then there is Vektal who is obsessed with Geogie but in such a cute way. He helps her as much as he can understand. I was absolutely adored by the way they communicated. They both tried teaching each other and understood enough for them to communicate a little. Both have great character developments more Georgie than Vektal. There are also some great side characters in the book but mostly in the beginning and the end. The bonus chapters helps knowing them more which I enjoyed. There is romance in this book and let me say that I didn't know I would enjoy Alien romance until I finished this read. Also this book is 4/5 levels of steaminess so beware!
The ending was well done and I can't wait to read the other books. I'm so glad that this series is getting a new look which I love so much more then the old ones. Also in the new books, the bonus content helps complete the story more. I had no problems with this book whatsoever and weirdly to say I really enjoyed reading it. I know some people didn't enjoy the alien romance but I did. I totally recommend checking it out as I think it's worth the hype.
AHHHH!!! I have finally taken the Plunge and read the Blue Alien books that everyone was talking about on tiktok and IG and OMG they are crazyyyy sexy. I said it! Vektal and Georgie are INSANELY addicting. I am so darn obsessed that I don't even know how I stopped my binge to write this!
This story is definitely out of this world (pun intended) crazy but you are so swept away by the writing that you suspend reality. Vektal is just next level and Georgie brings sass to another level. I loved their connection and am so glad I got out of my own way and devoured this!
Thank you Berkley and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. 5 stars! ~Ratula
Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
CW: human trafficking, kidnapping, alien abduction, sexual assault (off page side character)
I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)
-m/f fated mates
-insta attraction
-close-proximity
-elements of a road trip romance
-only one set of blankets in the cave
This was a reread for me that I enjoyed. I will say for anyone looking to read and skip over some of the more traumatic stuff maybe skip the first 30 pages and just dive right in to the stuck on an alien planet escapism. Viewed with a dark romance lite lens, these books are just escapism full of tropes and very steamy.
I loved how the book was packaged. The added on epilogue, the bonus novella. I'm a big fan of seeing a couple after the HEA and we got multiple glimpses. No unnecessary angst just them living their lives, some more steam and being happily in love. It felt like a complete relationship arc and I really recommend for fans who already enjoyed these books and new fans as well.

Ice Planet Barbarians is truly something I never expected. I was aware of all of the hype on Tiktok and Instagram but I never expected it to be so captivating. The world-building was deeply creative and immersive. I felt the terror when the women wake up and do not realize where they are, and the frustration that Georgie experiences when trying to communicate with the words largest cinnamon roll/chief Vektal. Learning about the culture and creatures on the Ice Planet was interesting and made me believe I could be into sci-fi in the future.
I think Ruby Dixon deserves all of the praise, attention, and accolades she is receiving from IPB and I cannot wait to own all of the new covers as they are released by Berkley
Despite my original apprehensions when reading the synopsis of this book, I thoroughly enjoyed this escape into alien romance. The characters were adorable and sweet and I was truly engrossed in the plot. And it was spicy! This series is addicting and so easy to get lost in. I totally recommend it for readers who are eager to break free from the typical romance genre and want to dip their toes into something new! I've already binge-read the first 4 books and I look forward to seeing where Ruby Dixon takes this series!
