This was so much fun! I really loved this adventure story and how openly queer our protagonist was! I loved how he completely accepted himself, despite looking different from the people around him. I loved how the group helped people and I loved the diversity in the group. This was so grand and I absolutely loved it!
This was a really snarky, fun, and adventurous comic!! I enjoyed the pacing and absolutely loved the characters. Great nonbinary and queer rep too. I would have loved a bit more of an epilogue or set up for another installment, but otherwise this was so lovely!
Thank you to Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this graphic novel! It's fun, cute and got some adventure. I loved all the characters and I would love to read more stories with them all. Of course, I also love me some antagonists who can't seem to help being attracted to each other.
Artwork is also splendid for the story.

Funny adventure tale that has lots of sex positive, queer rep. I'm really interested in seeing what hijinks the party will get up to next! I could take the plot and use it for a one-shot 5e session, using the well-developed characters.
Fun time! Fands of the Adventure Zone will like this.
3.6/5
A hilarious and sexually fuelled novel that reminds me a lot of D&D. Join the prince on an adventure with a band of misfits in a magic tale that will sure to keep your interest. It's short but fun.
A really fun and chaotic graphic novel. Loved the art style and the story!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me review this book.

The art on this graphic novel is pretty cute, especially the color scheme. I pretty much did find thisi hillarious to be honest and would love to get to know more of the characters and see them develop more which I find pretty much lacking for me because of the shortness.
The characters were also enjoyable, like I said, but I would have enjoyed this more if I get to see them more developed and interacted. I also would like to add the fact that it felt way too rushed for me especially during the almost ending and of course THAT SCENE that shookt me.
Overall, this was an okay read. 3 stars.
Overall, I enjoyed this graphic novel. It gave off D&D vibes, the artwork was both pretty and cute at times, and the characters were good. I found the plot to be somewhat lackluster. The characters were interesting enough, but the quest could’ve had a little more added to it. There could’ve been more stakes for the characters as well. It was fun and light hearted, but it was balanced with real world issues. It did become more tell than show at times, and I prefer not needing my hand held through concepts. Otherwise, I do like this and recommend it.
This is a delightful graphic novel, reminiscent of a game of Dungeons & Dragons. The characters were a little flat, but I really enjoyed the LGBTQ+ representation in the book, especially how Eugene responded to Hocus's pronouns. It was a light read that was highly entertaining and a wonderful fantasy escape from the wildness that is life in March 2022.
4 star!
The characters were interesting and the art style was pretty unique in my opinion! This graphic has a lot of humor and I enjoyed all the characters and the story plot in this novel!
I love the representation in this group and some parts of the novel may be uncomfortable so I would recommend this to 18+
TW is involved in this graphic novel: nudity, blood, and sexual content!
So much fun and unexpected, with great art and a very interesting story. I want more!
The characters were all very interesting, like all of them, and I was left wanting to know more.
Real Hero Shit is spectacular and so much fun! It has an adorable art style and endearing characters many of whom are queer which was nice. The story itself was very short, didn't have much in the way of character development and the plot was pretty basic but it was so much fun! It felt like a really good d&d one shot and the characters felt, less like real people, more like characters people would play in a campaign. Real Hero Shit is hilarious and sweet and I highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan of d&d
Real Hero Shit is a quick fun read. Prince Eugene has decided to go on a quest. While he normally spends his days laying around the castle, he decides to join and adventure party with Ani, Hocus, and Michel. The group goes to a village to investigate a series of disappearances.
The characters were a lot of fun and I enjoyed the story. The artwork was beautifully done and very colorful.
A horny prince who has too much ego? A short magician done with his shit? An elf who has a dark and secret past? A non-binary magic healer using ‘e/’ey/’em? That’s what you get with Real Hero Shit. Prince Eugene wants to prove he’s not a devil, so he like we say in French “tape l’incruste” in a quest to find missing people, and let’s just say, the crew will be so tired of him, but they need him too.
Thank you NetGalley and Iron Circus Comics for sending me an e-arc of this book. I loved it, I want to say everyone is queer so that’s it. But I will elaborate. A main character of color, a plus-sized main character, a polyamorous main character… Oh, and that’s totally normal.
This fantasy graphic novel is just so funny, the drawings are wonderful and the expressions are so expressive. The characters are everything, funny, cute, clumsy, flawed… Also, Eugene has a planner to organize when he’s going to get laid with someone…
The plot isn’t bad, even if it’s a character-driven story. Oh, and It’s between fade to black and spicy if you know what I mean…
Anyway, read it. You’re going to love it… Also, I hope there’ll be a second volume. Because clearly we need more answers, and I want to read another adventure with those characters
Real Hero Sh*t is a new adult fantasy graphic novel about a group of members of The Underguild that have to investigate the sudden disappearance of several town members. But when they fall one member short, they’re forced to take on the ever so charming but cocky prince who is sure to make their journey a lot more difficult.
I gave this 4,5 stars. I am literally OBSESSED! The characters were so interesting and diverse and the story was really fun!
However, this could (and should) have been way longer. I missed some build up and extra details to give the characters and story a bit more dept.
Other than that, it was absolutely perfect. The art style was gorgeous and added to the humour of the story. The dialogue and banter was top notch and the tension between the characters was great!
100% would recommend (if you’re over 18!)
rep: pan & poly mc, poc non-binary mc, gay mc, plus-size mc, Black side character
tw: blood, nudity, fade to black sexual content, discussions about religion
tropes: enemies to lovers (well enemies with benefits?)
Thank you to Netgalley and Iron Circus Comics for providing me with a digital arc.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗱:
- Casual queer rep. No specific labels are used but it's still there.
- Gorgeous art. The colored in panels were a great touch and I always have to appreciate when graphic novels are colored in!
- The comedy. I found myself laughing a few times throughout this!
- The fun characters. I really enjoyed seeing them and learning about them through their mini arcs.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲:
- Simplistic plot. It was just kind of basic and the major win for the novel is the characters.
- Short length. Definitely should've been longer so more time would be given to expand on the plot and everything else.
- Hate sex, (not a fan personally but I know many are.)
Overall, Real Hero Shit is definitely something to check out if you want a quick character driven graphic novel.
If you love RPGs, this is the book for you. It's a fun, sexy, adventurous romp that reads like a quick D&D campaign. The characters truly carry it, each of them is complete and compelling and I quickly come to care about each and every one of them. Plus they're a diverse cast of sexualities and genders, from a pansexual prince to a species that acknowledges a full spectrum of genders, complete with multiple pronouns to match. The art is bright and engaging and the characters beautifully and diversely rendered. My only complaint is that I wanted more; it is short and over way too quickly.
I liked the art style and the pacing, but I don't really get the fantasy adventure storytelling. I'm sure there is an audience for this, but it's not me.
You might think you’ve heard this before, a rogue, warrior, cleric, and mage set out on an adventure. But Real Hero Shit’s cast of characters twists those fantasy trope expectations on their head to create a layered, emotional, and relatable cast. The struggles, histories, and personalities of each of the four main cast result in identifiable characters. Characters that I came to care about during this debut title.
The dialog and characterizations set Real Hero Shit apart from traditional fantasy writing. Wells’ explores numerous identity issues including gender and sexuality. Fortunately, the characters have depth and nuance which creates a cast that comes alive on the page. This is not inclusion for the sake of a diversity checkbox. Wells develops each character with a history and backstory that allow the reader to identify with them and care about them. Prince Eugene has the most growth in this first book. Anjelica, the self-taught mage, bristles at Eugene’s arrogance, but begins to see some of the same depth that the reader does. Wells introduces Michel’s difficult past and leaves threads to explore in future titles.
Kendra Wells creates thoroughly complex characters and a rich world ready for future stories. Hopefully, Real Hero Shit is just the start of this adventure. Wells’ ability to create exciting action, humorous moments, and endearing characters result in a story that is highly recommended. An inclusive recommendation for teen and adult readers for a book that uses a medieval fantasy setting to speak to a modern audience.
Real Hero Shit is a fun and steamy romp. The illustrations are well done and draw you in. However there is a lot left desired by the story itself. There seems to be a lack of build up in all aspects from plot to character development. Things seem to happen just because without much explanation. That said Real Hero Shit is still very fun and an enjoyable light read.
