I loved this latest addition to the Georgian Gentlemen's series. This is possibly the first book I've read where I've forcefully paced myself to slow down so I could enjoy a little more every night. I didn't want it to end too quickly.
I also appreciated the slow-build romance. The two main characters admired one another before interest threw hormones on fire. Excellent.
The addition of the villain's viewpoint was a surprising and very satisfying addition. Wondering what the punk is up to? Just wait a second and he will let you know.
**I recieved a free copy of this ebook from the publisher. All words and opinions are my own, as always.**
Phenomenal!!! After I finished reading it I started it for a second time. Then a third. I loved how multidimensional the characters were, and how well they understood society standards and yet found ways to break through them. My heart ached for Lord Dunsbourne and the wrongs that were continually laid at his feet. And yet here was ac hance for the damsel to come to the aid of the hero instead of the other way around!!! Well, that happened too, which was soooooo swoon worthy. Bravo, Sian!!!! The characters were so easy to fall in love with, or hate despicably in the case of the villain(s). I thoroughly enjoyed this story!
A delightful story. I had a hard time getting into it and was confused at the beginning. But it got better.
Another fine read in this Georgian Gentlemen series. Sian Ann Bessey is a master writer. She is thorough in her research and writing style. Which brings forth excellent stories. An Alleged Rogue, is one of those books. Intrigue, suspense, history, sweet wholesome romance, this book has everything to peak your interest and take you back in history. The characters are well written and very enjoyable. The story interesting and holds you captive till the end. I also appreciated the authors notes at the end. I love to get lost in a story, but learn a piece of history in the process.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Story Notes
Sian brings another delightfully swoony and mysterious story to the Georgian Gentlemen series and I had a marvelous time reading it.
Most readers have seen the bookish meme going around with the girl wanting to both finish a great read and yet make it last as long as possible. That was me with this story. I loved the way that Sian added depth and plot to her story with each chapter, drawing me further into the lives of her characters and truly getting me invested in what happened to them. Adam, Lord Dunsbourne, has been working like mad to return his family's coffers to solvent for the past five years. A mistaken investment by his father cost them dearly and led to the former Lord Dunsbourne's death. But the thief who swindled his father is a master of disguise and fled the country right after the discovery of theft was made. His sister, Emily, is now approaching the age where she will need to make her debut into society, so his focus must move from seeking out the scoundrel to helping Emily make her entrance. He is at a loss, however, with how to make that happen. Having no wife and no acquaintance with societal experience, he must use what means he has at his disposal to allow him to find someone who might help. Thus, a dinner invitation brings him back into the world of society and introduces him to the delightful Phoebe Hadford. Phoebe's family is new to the area of Berkshire though she is well acquainted with several of the young ladies in residence. The sudden appearance of the reclusive Lord Dunsbourne sets tongues to wagging and Phoebe's friends are only too happy to share the malicious gossip that surrounds the Dunsbourne family. Her heart breaking at the idea that sweet Emily might be held captive by a controlling brother, Phoebe makes it her mission to befriend her in the hopes she might ascertain the truthfulness of the rumors. What she finds instead of an overbearing man, is a shy, hardworking gentleman who is trying to ensure his home and family are well cared for. An easy friendship builds between the Dunsbourne and Hadford homes but the local society is still vicious in their tales. Can Phoebe use her standing and her influence to help remove the shadow hovering over the Dunsbourne name? And will Adam be able to return the proffered favor when his nemesis makes another appearance? Can he also take a chance on love, even though he once believed it out of his grasp forever? You'd better grab your copy of this delightful story if you want to find out because I'm not telling!
I can't recommend this story and the series highly enough. It's well written, has excellent characters, includes some sharp wit and a hint of mystery/suspense that culminates in a read that you will both want to rush through and savor at the same time (remember the meme?) I loved how everything flowed well and there were no places where conversation became boring or repetitive. Adam was a wonderful hero, though he tended towards self-sacrifice a bit too often. It was a flaw that was remedied but made him relatable to readers. Phoebe was the perfect person to befriend Adam and Emily and her tendencies towards snobbery were tempered quickly when she was faced with opportunities to help her friends. One other thing I did notice and really appreciated was that any character that was mentioned was given a good bit of page time. There were no random mentions that weren't developed and I've enjoyed seeing how Sian does that with all of her books. If you've not already done so, get this book and the series on your TBR list immediately and settle in for some excellent reading. You certainly won't be disappointed!
I received this temporary complimentary E-book from Sian Ann via NetGalley. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review but am most pleased to do so. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
This was hard to put down!
The way this began with the villain of the story, I initially thought the focus would be on him as the "alleged rogue". But that just set the scene for later so we understood his motivation better.
I loved Phoebe's uniqueness and her skill with budgeting - not something you usually see in historical novels!
Adam was unafraid of hard work, also unusual for a Lord in those times.
Well written and enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.
Sian Ann Bessey is phenomenal. I'm specifically speaking in terms of an author because we don't know each other but I do listen to her podcast and as such, I feel like we're friends and I believe she is also a phenomenal person. So, you should read this book. And all her other ones. I honestly don't know how she can so seamlessly blend romance, history and suspense but friends, she kept me swiping the page. Also, I love apples so this book has ALL the things going for it. 😉
.
I really loved the characters- Adam is a bit of a martyr but I don't think I mind. Phoebe is strong and beautiful and uses that power (which was substantial in the 1700's) for good. Emily is a sweetheart that I'm excited to see again... hopefully. Miss Glover, Henry, Weston, Lucy, Mr. Hadford. All of em. Even the smallest character played an important role and color me more than sufficiently impressed.
Thank you to Covenant, Netgalley and Sian Bessey for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Sian Bessey's newest book in the Georgian Gentleman series had me racing for the end. From start to finish, I couldn't wait to see what happened. The intrigue, society's gossip, and the romancer all had me entranced. An Alleged Rogue took me to a place that I could see society's whirl happening while still being set in the country. This book details a villain who isn't limited to one crime but several. By the time the story ends, every wraps up nicely after the climax that made my heart race and the hero and heroine to be put in life-threatening situations. This historical romance was so fun to read.
Oh my heavens!!! I loved it!!! So much! Another favorite book of the year for me. I didn't want it to end. I didn't want to pause in my reading. I couldn't look away when the suspenseful scenes were happening. I was holding my breath during some of them. Then I'd realize I was doing so and have to remind myself to breathe. Hahaha! That would have been a problem, wouldn't it?!!!
Have you read the other two books yet? If you have you're going to really enjoy this recent addition. If you haven't, no worries, you can read it as a stand alone book. Our main female character in this book is the sister to the main female character in An Uncommon Earl, and I absolutely adored the scene with the previous female characters' mother-in-law. Hint, it's at one of the balls. You'll know what I'm talking about if you read it. All three books are great, but this one is my favorite so far. I'm hoping there will be more to come in this series. *Fingers crossed*
Phoebe is trying to figure out the enigma of who Lord Adam Dunsbourne is. She's new to the neighborhood and her friends have shared the gossip they know about it. But now she needs to figure it out for herself.
I love watching Phoebe and her friendship with Adam's sister, Emily start. It was very sweet and made me think of when I'm starting new friendships. Not everyone in the household is please with Phoebe but she didn't let that deter her from her new friendship.
And let me tell you, the scenes when she was visiting Emily and running into Adam...hahaha! I was giggling. Those two made some initial mistakes in their perception of each other and it was delightful to watch!
Then there's our bad guy. You'll know pretty quickly who he is and what happened to Adam's family. So there's no surprise there. But even with knowing who he is, the author had me in suspense throughout the book. There were some twists and turns and surprises. Sooooo good!!!! Just don't start reading it thinking you'll be able to set it down and enjoy it over several days. Because, I'm not kidding you, you'll want to read it all right away. You've been warned. ;-)
Content: Clean. Sweet romance with nothing more than a kiss. Some moments of peril and suspense, nothing overly graphic.
I received a copy from the author/publisher but have also purchased my own personal copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
This is a light romance with likable main characters and the villain’s POV to keep it interesting. It’s well written and a quick read. It’s the third book in a series but can be read as a standalone story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 stars, rounded up.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ebook to review. All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars
I did like the characters in this story. Adam, Lord Dunsbourne was such an honourable man and he wasn’t afraid of hard work to bring his estate back to it’s former state. Phoebe Hadford, was also a likeable character. She was unwilling to listen to gossip to make up her mind about a person. She was particularly kind to Adam’s young sister, Emily. Gradually, as Adam and Phoebe came to know each other, so their feelings began to change. There is a villain who is out to cause trouble, which adds interest to the story. It also showed how gossip can affect how people think of others. I did enjoy this story, although I found parts of it to be at a slow pace, there was plenty of action in the latter parts. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have really been enjoying The Georgian Men series so I was anxious to get my hands on An Alleged Rogue. These books always tackle historical issues, with a dash of mystery topped off with sweet romance.
An Alleged Rogue, Adam, is on the constant struggle to gain back his families good name after a con artists leaves his family legacy in ruin. What is fantastic about this book is the friendships. Adam's sister Emily has been left in the shadows and has been a recluse to society due to her brothers cluelessness about raising a sister on his own. When beautiful society woman, Phoebe, befriends Emily and takes her under her wing there is a tender and wonderful friendship that leads into a love connection with her older brother Adam.
Phoebe is an amazing character who never judges on first impressions and always tries to ignore frivolous society gossip. The moments spent in the apple fields were beautiful and sweet and I learned more about cider making in the regency era. This is a slow burn of a romance but impactful in its purpose. Fans of the first two books will be pleasantly impressed with this third addition.
Absolutely loved An Alleged Rogue! The Heirs of Falcon Point was a top read for me and I wanted to give Sian Bessey’s Georgian Gentleman series a try. I was not disappointed. The characters, fast-paced story, and the beautiful setting were amazing! With an interesting story and time period, a dashing leading man, an endearing heroine, enjoyable side characters, and a dastardly villain, this book immediately pulled me in.
For five years, Lord Adam Dunsbourne has been trying to hunt down Freddie Payne, the man who destroyed his father and their family fortune. Unfortunately, his relentless quest led him to neglect his sister who he’s just noticed has grown up. He’s also been focused on nurturing his apple orchard and perfecting a cider that will save his estate. Realizing he needs to start easing his sister into society, he attends a party where he meets Phoebe Hadford.
Phoebe’s family is relatively new to Berkshire society. After her sister’s marriage, she’s been a bit lonely and longs for a real friend. When she meets Emily, she desires to help her and they become fast friends. Lord Dunsbourne is an enigma though. Rumors suggest he’s the worst sort of rogue, but as she interacts with him, she finds there’s more to the attractive man than rumors suggest.
Phoebe is one of my favorite book heroines. She’s intelligent, extremely kind, and keenly observant of society and its foibles. I loved the way she took Emily under her wing and was a true friend. She’s also as comfortable helping in the apple orchard as she is wearing the latest fashions. When she sees a problem or misunderstanding, she seeks to help. I also adored her romance with Adam. They both compliment each other so well.
Add Adam to the list of swoon worthy heroes! He’s not only handsome, intelligent, and thoughtful, but he’s brave, hard working, and willing to sacrifice for the people he loves. I enjoyed his tender care of his sister. I also loved all his humorous and pulse racing interactions with Phoebe, especially in the orchard.
This book was so hard to put down! The last 75% of the book, the suspense was intense and I was completely on edge unable to turn the pages fast enough. The villain in this story is absolutely despicable. The whole time I was just waiting to see if he would get his comeuppance.
Highly recommend this story! Although it’s the third book in the series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone. Now, I can’t wait to read the previous books in the series. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5.
This is a great historical romance!
Adam is such a good guy, a little lost, but so good. Phoebe is admirable. She knows what's right, follows her heart, and treats others kindly. I sincerely wish more people were like Phoebe. It was super interesting to have our villain's point of view, and it definitely helps move the story along.
The last third of this book is totally action-packed and I could not stop until I knew how it all worked out. If you're looking for something that isn't an average historical romance, pick this up!
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my copy of this book. All opinions here are my own.
This is the first book by Sian Ann Bessey that I have read. While I enjoyed reading An Alleged Rogue I wasn't prepared for the amount of information that was provided in this book. This book contains quite a lot of information on apples and cider making, as well as fashion and criminal activities. The interaction between the characters is perfect. The author shows the results of spreading gossip without knowing the truth. This story is romantic, suspenseful, and informative. The story is about Lord Adam Dunsbourne, a reclusive lord who has rumored to have gambled away his family's fortune and keeps his sister, Emily, prisoner in their family home. That is until he accepts an invitation to a dinner party and Emily befriends their neighbor, Phoebe Hadford. Phoebe and Emily become fast friends and Phoebe soon learns that Adam is not the rogue everyone has made him out to be. But now she must convince every one else of that. This is definitely a must read.
I would like to thank Netgalley for the advanced reading copy. The opinions evpressed are solely my own.
#BookReview: AN ALLEGED ROGUE by Sian Ann Bessey
I loved Heirs of Falcon Point and so I wanted to read another book by this author. This third book in the Georgian Gentlemen series was a sweet romance with mystery. I loved how Phoebe assisted Emily in many ways. She sounds like a good friend.
This book reminded me to go apple picking. The apples taste the best there! I could just imagine Phoebe and Emily taking a walk in the orchard in the fall season. The apple cider making process was also very interesting to read.
It was a big puzzle to solve the mystery of the elusive Freddie Payne. Like Lord Adam, I wanted to know how to stop him from causing more damage. Some pages were fun and sweet, and the others made my heart race. I couldn’t put it down. This engaging and suspenseful story was well paced and a really good read.

Thank you @covenant for the complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I can honestly say that the Georgian Gentleman series just keeps getting better and better! I loved An Alleged Rogue by Sian Ann Bessey. I loved being able to read about a different time period than my usual regency or contemporary romances. But even more than that, I loved the main characters. Lord Adam Dunsbourne is now on my list of bookish crushes. I love how loyal, hard working, and genuine he is, despite rumors and hardship. Phoebe Hadford is a force to be reckoned with. I love her style and fashion, but also her commitment to right and helping others. Also, I love Emily Dunsbourne and hope we get to see more of her in the future. In addition to great protagonists, Bessey has nailed the villain in this book. Freddie Payne is the WORST, but in a good way because his devious actions made for a compelling, wonderful story well worth reading.
*Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
This was an enjoyable book to read! I loved the cozy fall feeling, and now I want to buy a big bag of apples from an orchard because they taste the best.
I liked Phoebe and Adam a lot! People spread rumors that Adam was a tyrant, so Phoebe reached out to his sister because she was worried about her. I really enjoyed how Phoebe and Emily (Adam’s sister) became friends! And it was sweet to see Phoebe and Adam get to know each other and fall for each other.
It was interesting to have the villain’s perspective throughout the story, and the ending had me on the edge of my seat!
This is a great series, and is one I highly recommend!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5+++/5
My, oh, my! This book was incredible and had so many things I loved about it. The thoroughly captivating cast of characters included these main characters. The devious, cold-hearted fiend (Freddie Payne) the hard-working, indomitable hero (Adam Norton, aka as Lord Dunsbourne), and the caring, spirited and intelligent heroine (Phoebe Hadford) made the time fly by as I was totally immersed in learning about them and reading this story.
Adam Norton was so caught up in trying to bring Freddie Payne to justice and save his family’s estate that he forgot about everything else, including his sister, Emily. Thanks to his neighbor, Phoebe Hadford, he begins to realize that there are more important things to see to and love. He has unwittingly neglected Emily and allowed malicious rumors to abound. I loved that Phoebe could see beyond gossip and pride to be a true friend to Adam and Emily. She helped Adam with his burgeoning apple orchard and business when no one else would and helped Emily with becoming a part of the local society. Everyone needs a Phoebe in their lives.
Don’t you love it when a villain is so evil you hate them? Well, I detest, abhor, despise Freddie Payne. He was such a scum, stealing from so many people. He gloried in the fact that he swindled innocent, trusting people. His pride and greed became his downfall, and for that I am extremely glad.
The plot was so exciting that I had to put the book down, just to immediately pick it back up so that I could find out what was happening. Throughout the story I fumed, yelled, laughed gleefully, clapped my hands and cheered like I do when I am watching a movie that I love.
I highly recommend this book and think you will love it and want this for your library. It is the first book that I have read in her Georgian Gentlemen. I am definitely going to read the other two books in the series, The Noble Smuggler and An Uncommon Rogue.
Thank you to NetGalley for an electronic advanced reader’s copy of the book. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I’ve become a great fan of Sian Ann Bessey’s historical romance books. Not only is her writing beautiful and well-researched, but her settings are richly painted, and she is a master at creating colorful, multi-layered, and engaging characters.
Rumors of Lord Adam Dunsbourne’s bad reputation abound in his neighborhood, and Phoebe Hadford can’t help but be concerned about his supposed treatment of his sister Emily. When she steps in to help Emily, Phoebe finds that all is not as it seemed to be. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Adam and Phoebe develop and change as they work together to save Adam’s orchard and solve the mystery of the forger who was destroying lives and livelihoods.
This is the third book in Bessey’s Georgian Gentlemen series, but it can easily be read alone. You’ll want to read the other two books, because they’re fantastic, also. I’m looking forward to more of Bessey’s writing in the future. I love the glimpses into different slices of history that she weaves into her tales. 4.5 stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the author and Covenant Communications through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
