This is a wonderful story filled with suspense. The author used a lot of smoke and mirrors, resulting in me being wrong footed once again. I love to fly into an author's web when it's woven so brilliantly as this one is.
I liked the story being told through the eyes of the two main characters Bradley and Sara and the way the author took us back in time to fill in the much needed background story.
I trusted Sara totally. I distrusted Bradley totally. I enjoyed the way the two characters changed before my eyes. Did this change my opinion about them and if so was I right to do this?
I really had no idea at all the book would develop in this direction, but I loved it.
Maybe sometimes a bit too slow paced for me, but the further I read the more I realised why the author structured it all like she did.
Sometimes you have to be a bit more patient and it's most certainly worth it in the end. 5 stars
Thank you
Really enjoyed this thrilling story, it had me hooked from beginning to end with so many twists and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat.
This author just does psychological thrillers and this is just a great read. I just had to keep reading it was such a good read and kept me entertained.
As always I recommend this author and it works.
I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Arianne Richmonde's "The Guilty Sister" presents a gripping narrative that weaves together family dynamics, secrets, and suspense in a compelling psychological thriller. The story follows the protagonist, whose life takes a dark turn when her free-spirited sister, Cece, goes missing, and suspicions begin to mount against her.
The novel's strength lies in its ability to build and maintain a sense of tension from the very beginning. The premise of a missing sister and the protagonist being under suspicion creates an immediate hook, making it difficult to put the book down. Richmonde skillfully navigates the complexities of sibling relationships, portraying the contrasts between the two sisters' lives and personalities, adding layers to the story.
The narrative unfolds with well-paced twists and turns, reminiscent of popular psychological thrillers like "The Girl on the Train" and "Gone Girl." Richmonde manages to sustain a level of suspense that keeps readers guessing until the final pages. The writing style is fluid and engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring the New York setting to life, enhancing the overall reading experience.
While the story is undeniably captivating, there are moments where the plot may seem slightly predictable to avid readers of the genre. However, the execution and resolution of the central mystery offer a satisfying conclusion that ties up loose ends without feeling overly contrived.
I loved the story and plot line. Its well written and felt myself connecting with the characters. Definitely recommend
This was a fast paced psychological thriller with so many twists and turns that really had me guessing with an ending that left me completely shocked. This was definitely a solid thriller that I would recommend to all of my thriller lovers out there!
Astounding! A completing different type of psychological thriller which now makes me want to read more from this author! Sara's sister Cece is missing, or she appears to be. Two sisters who are the polar opposite but so intrinsically intertwined. Just when I thought the book was going in one direction, it derailed me and took a U-turn, keeping me guessing and reading with immense pace. This is one of those books which stayed on my mind after I had finished.
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this opportunity. A twins book are really something great and I am.always so interested what will come out with something new. This was great
Oh wow, this book actually stunned me. I didn't see some of the twists coming at all. So clever and so gripping. The author is fast becoming one of my favourites.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me for this book.
I felt the writing was done well in this book but there was just something missing for me and I couldn't get into it and enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.
It was goog but I did not conect with the characters and the conclussion of the plot was not too good as I expected.
Sara has a tense connection with Cece, yet she adores her sister. Despite being identical twins, their personalities are worlds apart. When Cece goes gone, Sara wonders whether it was her fault for wanting Cece to vanish. Sara knows she’ll have to explain herself when her boyfriend Bradley discovers Cece’s social media account on her phone. Sara has kept it a secret for many years, but at least one person is aware of it. She is not, however, the only one harboring secrets, truths that are about to be disclosed. Bradley has a shady history of previous partnerships. Things will finally come to a head between the two of them. Bradley has no intention of abandoning Sara’s tumultuous relationship with Cece for the time being. He discovered the photographs. He now demands answers. More is desired. Will Bradley get more than he expected? Will Sara be able to strike a balance with the secrets she’s been keeping, especially once the cops show up at her door?
“The Guilty Sister” was an excellent and engrossing book. Arianne Richmonde’s psychological thriller The Guilty Sister is a psychological thriller. The tale is recounted through switching between the characters’ points of view, principally Sara and Bradley’s, although there are a handful of smaller views as well. It’s also one that starts at one moment in time and then jumps back in time. To begin with, I appreciated how the author did not start the narrative from the beginning. Sara’s ideas are conveyed to the reader amid the most adverse of circumstances, yet she does not reveal the whys and wherefores. The key, I believed, was the term breached. What happened was exactly what I expected, and I can’t say much more without giving too much away from the story. However, the introduction puts in motion a chain of events that made me laugh out loud. The past and present finally collide, and the process is astounding. In the meanwhile, I discovered how one identical twin sister felt about the other, but it was he who was most essential. Bradley, the observer, is him. He’s the one who melts my heart by breaking the ice in the most unusual of settings. I’ll return to it later. Yes, his persuasion techniques irritate my Achilles’ heel. But his posture didn’t give me the impression I wanted.
This was an unexpected story for me. It would be an understatement to say it was shocking. What deception, deception, deception, deception, deception, deception, deception, deception, fraud, deception, deception, deception Throughout this smart plot, clues were dropped, but I never would have imagined the outcome. Everything worked out well. The book is impossible to put down, and I was completely engrossed from the first page. You won’t be able to predict the ending climax, which is the cherry on top. It was half romance, part suspense, and I enjoyed it! Every page contains a unique twist. This is an excellent book for those who are new to psychological thrillers.
This book is one that most mystery books fans will really enjoy.
The plot had so many twists and turns I couldn’t put the book down
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery or thriller.
Bradley and Sara meet in Central Park while Sara is walking her handi-capable dog. They start a relationship together but something seems to be a little off with both of them, Both of them have secrets they are keeping from each other. Who will reveal their secret first?
This book is listed as a Thriller, but I didn't find it very thrilling. The storyline was a little predictable and the ending was a little weak. There are all kinds of awful things Bradley and Sara were involved in which was a little disturbing for me. It was a little too much even for a thriller. I would only recommend this book to readers that enjoy Thrillers!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Great storyline with some well timed twists. The writing isn’t exactly the best, but the story is still great! A nail biter that will definitely have you guessing until the end!
The Guilty Sister kept me up late at night reading!! Sara has a twin sister Cece, and they have a strained relationship. Sara starts dating Bradley and the storyline changes from these characters point of view. I felt like I was on a roller coaster with all of these twists!
If you like a quick read that will keep you guessing until the end, this book is for you. I want to thank the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Some parts felt 2/5, others felt 4/5. Giving this a 3/5 to round it out.
First of all, I'd like to say that despite my rating, I actually enjoyed reading this book. Sure, there were some parts that I found extremely slow, some parts I found a bit boring, and some parts I found a little unnecessary, but overall, I don't regret reading this. It's fairly short so although I paused multiple times (it's not really a page-turner, more like a rollercoaster that had more straight parts than up parts) it was a rather quick read.
In terms of good stuff, The Guilty Sister had an interesting plot, and the author certainly had plenty of good ideas.
However, I wasn't really a fan of the execution. For instance, there are many plot twists featured in this story. Unfortunately, most were more like, "Huh? That came out of nowhere!" than "Woah, I didn't see that coming but come to think of it, it does make a lot of sense!" And obviously, I prefer the latter better.
And while I did enjoy trying to figure out what everyone's secret is, when those secrets were finally revealed, all I felt was confusion and disappointment. All of a sudden, almost everyone's a villain – with their personalities taking a totally unexpected 180-degree turn. That's not fun at all.
Lastly, the author tried their hardest to write a good ending for pretty much everyone (except for that final plot twist), so much so that the whole thing felt rushed. I love books that can tie up loose ends, but not when they feel like just a last-minute addition.
Overall, I guess I did enjoy the ride, even though the destination wasn't what I expected. Looking forward to more thrillers from Arianne Richmonde – hopefully, the execution is better than this one.
This was a thriller that lots of twists and turns. The characters werent particulary likeable but that didnt change anything for me. It has romance, and thriller genres in it which are 2 of my favourite things. The ending made the book for me.
I liked the constant scramble by the two characters, one to unhide it and the other to keep it hidden.. The twin sister was the dark secret. I liked how the writing pulled me in. The twists were timely and kept me engaged.
I wanted to love this one, but couldn't get into it. Very slow pace of book, surprised me as the write up drew me in, this fell short for me and I didn't love this one at all.
