This book had my full interest from the start, and it wholly absorbed me. I had a powerful feeling of empathy towards the characters. As I read Anna's story of her quest to find a donor for her daughter, I could feel her distress, worry, and grief radiating from the text.
This novel brings the reader through an emotional exploration of motherhood, sickness, grief, the relationship between mothers and daughters, positivity, and determination. I was keeping my fingers crossed for the entire book. This strengthened the realism of the book and elicited emotion to make it seem authentic.
This book is entertaining, sincere and highly recommended. I will, without hesitation, be reading more books from this author in the future.
A powerful story about every parent's worst nightmare when their child falls sick, and the extent a parent will go to do the best for their child.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
A very moving book about a young single mothers fight to save her daughters life. Anna becomes concerned that 6 year old Libby seems unwell lately. Her worst fears are confirmed when she learns her precious daughters kidneys are not functioning properly. When test rule her and her family out as a doner Anna must turn to the one person she hates most in the world Libby's father. A man that emotionally abused her throughout their relationship. The book will pull on the heart strings of any parent. I personally read it in one day. A brilliant read
Wow - what a book! It is absolutely enthralling and really makes you stop and think about the lengths you would go to to save your child. It is captivating and a story that will stay with you. A really powerful read.
When 6 year old Libby gets sick, Anna will do anything she can to help her daughter. Even if it means reaching out to her estranged, narcissistic, manipulative husband.
The characters were wonderfully complex and very easy to relate to.. Except for Ryan, who was absolutely horrible.
Anna and Libby’s story is an emotional one that stay with me for quite a while!
I am looking forward to devouring more books by this author.
Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture, and Emma Robinson for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am a huge fan of Emma's books. Every time I start one, I make sure I have cleared the day as much as I can because I know once I start, I will not want to stop!
A box of tissues is always needed for an Emma book. She is a pro at pulling on your heart strings. And being a parent myself makes me sympathise with the characters even more and brings out more emotions.
I have always described her books as an emotional rollercoaster and this one is no exception!
What an emotional story this was. All in all a great story which I highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC
Have the tissues at the ready! I’m sure I started my last review this way for Emma’s previous book.
This story is a rollercoaster of emotions, the love of family, the difficulty of broken relationships, the shear determination of a mother to save her child.
I think as a parent you can relate to the main character in this and hope and prey for a good outcome. Even though this will tug on your heart strings, you won’t be able to put it down as you fight through the tears to reach the conclusion.
This book portrayed a mother's love at the rawest sense, where she would do anything at any cost to save her child. Having read many of this author's books, I kept tissues handy and read the book, with hope in my heart all the while with tears in my eyes. The writing evoked all my feelings.
Get the tissues ready
A real emotional book
This is a well written story
Loved her other books
And this one didn’t disappoint
Thanks NetGalley
Another emotional rollercoaster from Emma
What would you do to save your child’s life? How far would you go?
I have been through every emotion reading this book. Anger, happiness, sadness and yes at one point big fat tears.
When single mum Anna’s 6 year old daughter is diagnosed with kidney failure she wants nothing more than to be able to save her. Unfortunately for Anna it seems her blood type isn’t compatible and she is therefore not a viable donor, she reluctantly turns to Libby’s dad to ask him to help her. What father wouldn’t do this for their child right? It seems not all father’s want what’s best for their child. What can Anna do to help him change his mind? Will Libby be ok?
I fell in love with little Libby and young Max, the little boy she meets in dialysis and instantly warmed to both mothers who just want the best for their children.
I felt their pain at their children’s illness and the fact they couldn’t make them better themselves
Emma really drew on all the emotions with this story and I highly recommend
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title .
Every parent's worst nightmare is to discover that your child has a life changing medical condition. Anna and her daughter have escaped from an abusive marriage only to find that her abusive ex may be the only one to hold the key to making her daughter well again. Heart wrenching and absolutely believable, this story will bring you to tears.
This book has taken me on an unforgettable emotional journey and I have blubbed quite a few times. I expected this book to be emotional, of course, but I didn’t quite expect it to impact me quite as much as it did.
I guess that’s part of Emma’s talent as an excellent writer of domestic drama and emotionally charged fiction. There are two main storylines going on in the book, which are of course linked in the circumstances There’s Anna and Ryan’s fractured relationship, and the other is Libby’s deteriorating medical condition. As a woman who has been in an emotionally abusive relationship, I definitely could identify with Anna’s position in relation to Ryan. As a mum, I could definitely relate to her position in relation to Libby. I could not think of one single thing I would not do to save my child in that situation. My ex partner from the abusive relationship is currently in prison, but I’d happily support him being let out tomorrow if it meant saving my daughter’s life as that’s what being a mum is!
Therefore, this book is a beautiful and heart-breaking exploration of motherhood, parenthood, the breakdown of relationships, trust, fear and family. It is a book that packs quite a punch in terms of its impact considering it is only just over 300 pages long.
This is a story that will stay with me for a long time. It explores some really important issues and is steeped in such cleverly constructed realism. It is a reminder that, no matter your current position, there are others out there who are struggling, and you are not alone.
I would definitely recommend this book and author to fans of Jodi Picoult, Amanda Prowse, Sam Vickery and Kate Hewitt.
A hard-hitting emotional page-turner that packs plenty of punch, Emma Robinson’s To Save My Child is an astute and heart-breaking tale perfect for book clubs everywhere.
Single mother Anna worships her six year old daughter, Libby. There is absolutely nothing Anna will not to do for her beloved daughter. Anna hasn’t had the easiest starts in life and having fled an abusive relationship, she had vowed never to let hear former partner anywhere near her and her precious daughter. Anna has no intention of ever going back on that promise and is thankful for the life she leads with her beautiful child – until a bombshell threatens to obliterate both of their futures.
Libby has just been diagnosed with an extremely rare disorder that requires a transplant from a living relative if she is to survive. Anna will do every single test in the world and will move mountains to keep her daughter alive, but when she isn’t a match, she realises that she must contact the one man she had swore never to clap eyes on ever again. The one man whose abuse, cruelty and anger had caused her so much pain and anguish: her ex. It is the last thing Anna wants to do, but she knows that her former partner is Libby’s only hope and she will do whatever it takes for her daughter.
The man Anna has feared and hated is now back in their lives and there is simply no escaping from him. All of her old feelings come back with a vengeance, but Libby is her number one priority and there is absolutely nothing in the world that will keep Anna from doing whatever she can to save her child.
Emma Robinson’s To Save My Child is a visceral family drama that is highly-charged, intensely dramatic and brilliantly complex. A multi-layered and sensitively-told tale full of compassion, honesty and poignancy, it is impossible not to be completely drawn in and moved by Emma Robinson’s chilling, intelligent and thought-provoking novel about the lengths a mother will go to to save her child.
Anna is ready to do anything to save her. When her tests show that she can't donate her kidney, she has no option but to call Ryan- Libby's father- the man who drove her to a breaking point. After everything she did to get away from a toxic marriage, she knows how risky this phone call could be, but if that's what it takes to protect her daughter, she's ready to do it.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was really upset when I finished reading this awesome, heartwarming book. The plotline was simple, yet promising and the book lived up to my expectations, like a true page-turner. Right from the start, the lovely bond between Anna and Libby had all my heart. More than family drama, I think this book falls into the emotional category, they way each mean remark and bad news feel like a slow knife stab. If this book enlightened me about anything, it would be how relationships evolve (in every way) and how emotional abuse and manipulation can destroy a person. I know I make this sound like a very heavy read (it is quite hitting), but Robinson tackles all these issues very carefully, so that they all remain a side plot. Apart from social issues, it provided an insight into the medical world and transplants. Even though I am a teenager, the book moved me to an extent that I am interested in donating my own kidney in the future. This was my first Emma Robinson, but I'm pretty confident that writing multi-layered relationships is one of her best powers. Ryan's personality seemed pretty positive at first (like it would have in reality), but I was completely captivated the way his true colors were revealed, showing them one by one. Every time Ryan said something, i would turn the page, wanting to know how it affected Anna and Libby. Every time Anna confronted him, I held my breath, wanting to know what Ryan did next to get more leverage on her using the situation. On a lighter note, there are multiple positive characters in the book that make up for Ryan's brutality. I can keep praising this book forever, but I'll stop here by saying that you must try this book (teens can give it a go too).
Oh what an emotional story this was. And what a particularly nasty character Ryan was. All that makes for a great story which I highly recommend. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC
Anna and her six year old daughter Libby have started a new life, away from a coercive marriage. They are happy and looking forward to the future, there is nothing that Anna wouldn't do for her daughter, so when Libby collapses and the hospital diagnose her with a rare disorder that requires a transplant to survive, Anna and her family get themselves checked to see if they're compatible, sadly none of them are, which leaves only one option, she calls the one man she hoped she'd never have to rely on again, her husband Ryan, Libby's dad. She's scared that he'll use this to control her again, but she knows she has no other choice if she wants her little girl to survive, any mother would do the same, wouldn't they?
To Save My Child is a story about a mothers love for her child, highlighting how most of us will put our children's needs before our own, because that's what being a parent is all about, we bring these little people into the world and make a promise that we will always love and protect them. I was invested in this story from page one, it's an emotional tale, told with compassion and integrity, clearly showing that the author has done her research regarding the subject of transplant and donors. I immediately took to Anna and Libby, despised the attitude of Ryan and wanted to punch him on several occasions due to his narcissistic behaviour. One thing that is always guaranteed from this hugely talented author is that her books will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions and you will definitely need tissues. This is the third novel I've read by Robinson and she gets me every time!
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'To Save My Child' by Emma Robinson.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Emma Robinson, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 26th October 2021.
This is the third book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'My Husband's Daughter' and 'His First Wife's Secret' which I highly recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'An unforgettable, heartbreaking and ultimately uplifting story from the bestselling author of My Husband’s Daughter, this novel is perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain and Jojo Moyes.' I am a huge fan of all three authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Emma and if this is half as good as 'My Husband's Daughter' and 'His First Wife's Secret' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 42 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Essex 🏴, UK 🇬🇧 . I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have in fact visited Essex on many occasions including this year so am looking forward to possibly recognising name places.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonist being Anna Ferguson. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
'To Save My Child' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Emma discusses/includes child illness.
Wow!!! Where to even begin?? Mind you it's hard enough to write this with blurry eyes through tears!! Oh yes, that emotional even I shed tears!!!
I start by saying that Emma Robinson is a very talented author and I cannot wait to get dug into more of her books. She is definitely on par with several of my favourite authors including Jodi Picoult, Jojo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks and has been added to this list so well done there!!!
The book itself is written so well that it reads so smoothly from chapter to chapter with brilliant descriptions and settings perfect for the scene. Itreally dragged me deep into the story and I became completely invested until I came out the other end with tears streaming down my face.
The storyline is absolutely heartbreaking and a real tear jerker. It is also an absolutely beautiful story of love, loss and family!! It is filled with love, family, selfishness, abuse, regrets, selflessness, heartbreak and much much more. It was an absolute roller-coaster ride of emotions. This story is definitely a mother's worst nightmare and you will definitely not only need to clear your schedules when you start this as you will not be able to put it down but you need to make sure you have tissues at the ready!!! I cried, screamed, smiled, my heart broke, I seen evil and then a hero. I can't say too much as I don't want to give too much a way. Needless to say it is a beautiful book and an absolute page turner!!!
The characters are all realistic and described so well I really felt that I got to know them all. I became completely invested in not only Anna but Libby too. It tore me apart watching Ryan destroy Anna's life and much more but I can't say anymore as I really don't want to spoil it for others. Needless to say I couldn't stand the man!!! I also had a major problem with someone else but they did redeem themselves in my eyes. I also became invested in Tim, Julie and Max's story and well..... Eurgh!!! I think if I say anything else I will spoil things but just trust me you need to read this book and you will know what u mean and feel!!! I loved that they were a mix of personalities and I enjoyed watching the relationships between each grow and develop. I admired Libby's strength and Anna's dedication and loyalty as a Mum and honestly just everything about them and the storyline was perfect. Another character that stood out for me was Tina who was such a lovely and caring friend, anyone would be lucky to have a friend like Tina!! I would LOVE to see this turned into a movie!!!!
Overall an absolute page turning, tear jerking beautiful story of love, loss and family.
Genres covered in this novel include Literary Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Emotional Drama and Fiction amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Nicholas Sparks, Jojo Moyes, Jodi Picoult, 'My Sisters Keeper' and just anyone looking for a beautiful read.
304 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Oh my goodness, what a tear-jerker this beautiful book is!
Anna has finally broken free of her marriage to Ryan, her ex, and is starting a new life for herself and Libby. But when Libby falls ill, she has to go against her instincts and contact Ryan for help.
I really liked Anna as a character, and felt myself so tense on her behalf when she has to let Ryan back into her life again. I disliked him right from the start, and didn’t trust him one bit. Anna is so strong and independent, and it was hard to see her having no choice but to contact Ryan again.
Ryan was the only character that I didn’t like, and Anna’s support network of her family and friends were a wonderful antidote to his ego and his manipulation.
It’s very rare that a book will move me to tears, but this one did, and there are some really heart-breaking moments. But ultimately it’s a book about family and a mother’s love, and it’s actually full of hope and joy.
A gorgeous book by one of my favourite authors, I just can’t recommend it enough.
This is a compelling and heart-touching novel about a woman forced to contact her estranged and abusive husband in order to try and get a life-saving kidney for her daughter. What would you do to save your daughter's life? The main character Anna faces that challenge and answers that question over and over in this book. The characters are well written, and I feel the author captured the mindset and mind games that an abuser plays very well. Anna's desperation and love for her child ring through every page. This is a captivating read that parents will understand and enjoy.
I received a free copy of this book via the publisher, Bookouture. My review is voluntary and my opinions are my own.
