As a dedicated thriller reader I often find myself guessing what the twists and turns of a book are going to be. Many fail to leave me surprised or left guessing what’s going to happen but this couldn’t have been more of the opposite.
Lock the Doors is an addictive thriller told in first person narrative by Tom, a sixteen year old boy with a troubled past that continues to spill into his current life. After his mom remarries he finds himself moving into a new house with his stepfather Jay and his stepsister Nia. Things seem good for a short period of time but the house has strange secrets hidden in its walls and Tom can’t help but find them, despite wishing he wouldn’t.
After the move Tom is enlisted to give a new student a tour of his school and soon realizes she’s the daughter of the previous owners. Enticed by the mysterious Amy and her seemingly troubled past we follow along as Tom tries to find the answers of not only what happened in his house, but what Amy has to do with them.
This is a story that leaves you guessing till the very end and reveals villains you never would’ve conjured up yourself. It’s a story of familial bonds and what lengths people will go to in order to keep them in tact.
An emotional thriller with enough twists to keep my interest. I did find it redundant in several places which quickly became frustrating. But otherwise, it was a decent read, not what I was expecting.
This was a fun, edge of your seat story. It definitely went a route I didn't expect at all! I found it difficult to put down, wondering what happened in such a suspicious home. The reason this wasn't a full 5 star read was (for me) because the romance aspect of this felt a bit absurd and unrealistic for me. Tom is supposed to distrust romance, but his falling for Amy took from that and caused some character actions to not quite fit with their motivations. Otherwise it was a great thriller, and I highly recommend it.
I really like the OCD main character because it gives us an insight on what being OCD is actually like. I really like how Nia and Tom became friends by bonding over solving this mystery.
Could. Not. Put. This. Down. Seriously! This is in my must read list for suspense novels along with Dear Child by Romy Hausmann and The Rule by David Jackson.. All other books were put aside to finish this. Apparently a teen read (well, the main characters are teen) but really it feels like an adult read. It's a clean read though, so for teens who can handle the chilling content, it's unputdownable.
I can't say much without giving anything away, but the characters are believable, the plot is captivating and there is a deep sense of foreboding that keeps the story ticking along and reader glued to the pages.

**Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review**
I enjoyed this book, lots of twists and turns as we slowly learned the truth behind the suspicions. I especially enjoyed the switch in narrative part-way through where we got to find out the long-hidden secret, one I didn't guess and that actually made me say "Ohhhh!" out loud.
A solid 4/5 stars :)
Perfect paced and intriguing, it kept me reading until I finished it. And I didn’t see that one coming. Loved the format of the story, the plot, everything. Totally recommend.
When I first started this I honestly wasn't sure how I felt. It quickly picked up and what happened was not what I had thought. This is pretty emotional too. I really enjoyed this one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
3 stars!
I found this story quite interesting and it had a twist or turn in plot that I really didn’t expect and that made the story much stronger. Sadly, for me, I felt like some of the chapters felt repetitive and weren’t really adding much to the plot or story, it would just be Tom thinking about the his room, the things he would find and then leaving the chapter with I must find out what happened or I must unfold the truth that Amy is hiding. This happened quite a lot and I found myself just wanting something else to happen. Despite this, I enjoyed where the story went and the turn it took. It really did take me by surprise.
What a quick and captivating read! I devoured this quite simply. The characters were complex and interesting, and I’m happy to say my first theory was WAY off. I also really enjoyed the short chapters. As someone with ADD, I found that they held my interest a lot longer than long chapters do. On that note, I’m going to order his other novel!
If you love juicy thrillers/mysteries, Lock The Doors is just the right book to feed your hunger! Lock The Doors is the first book I've read by author Vincent Ralph, after reading this book, I am absolutely looking forward to reading more of his work. This book was such a page turner that I was completely obsessed with from start to finish. It is broken up into four parts, which I also loved! Lock the Doors is about a boy named Tom and his family who move into their dream home, but shortly after he starts to notice weird things about his new bedroom. There are strange writings on the walls and the locks to the bedroom doors are placed on the outside. The previous owners have moved and are now their neighbors across the street. Tom becomes quite a close friend of their daughter Amy and has a feeling she is hiding something about the truth that lies behind those locked doors and won't stop until he unravels the truth. I don't normally read too many thrillers but I must say, that this book has made it's way to the top of list of thrillers I have read. I was not disappointed, and the ending was the cherry on top of such a great book. I highly recommend this book to all book lovers! Thank you Netgalley and Author Vincent Ralph for the opportunity to receive and read an eARC of Lock The Doors for an honest review.

Lock the Doors was a pretty interesting thriller. Divided into four parts, we get lots of clues and information as to what went down and what could be coming our way. At times, it was creepy and gave me the chills. Mostly because it all started with a house. It looked pretty normal on the outside, but with deep dark secrets hiding within it.
Honestly, I was completely suspicious with every character that I met. I didn't know who had certain secrets, but I had lots of questions about each person. Especially when it came to Amy and her creepy family. Not everything was adding up once we got to know her a little bit better. So, when she let a name slip that's when I went into detective mode.
Luckily, I wasn't alone in this because Tom wanted to know what was going on too. Technically, he was on the clue trail long before me but details. In some ways, he reminded me of the kid version of Sherlock Holmes because he put things together way before me. I did get one thing right and it still blew my mind.
In the end, justice was served and I'm hoping that everyone is living a much better life. Well, not everyone because they definitely deserve all the karma coming their way. I'm so happy that I got the chance to jump into this thriller and I can't wait for Vincent's next book to come my way.
Interesting but not really my cup of tea. I just personally couldn’t get into the story. A young boy moves into a house of a girl who just moved…around the corner? There’s definitely some strange things in the house and he starts to hear voices. But he has a strange obsession with the girl and definitely doesn’t understand the word no which is just another level of uncomfortable. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Tom moves into a new house and it seems as if something malicious has happened there. Tom meets Amy who used to live in the house and begins a mission to figure out what happened. This book is definitely a good read. There’s twists that are unpredictable. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good but twisted mystery.
Lock the Doors was addictive. I really enjoyed this. And because of the short chapters, the pace became so fast. It's been a while since the last YA thriller I read. I didn't enjoy YA thriller as much as I used to except if the premise is intriguing.
Tom is the main character in Lock the Doors. After his parents separated, her mother made poor choices in men and led to the domestic abuse and bad memories. "Mum says most memories are Post-its on the fridge door of your life. But a few, she says, are tattoos on your soul. This is one of those memories. What I learned is that anything can be a weapon if you know how to use it." Tom and his mother had quite hard times throughout their lives. When his mother has a new partner, they moved into the new house. They didn't know what they walked into.
The new house is Tom's mum's dream house. In the new house Tom notices something strange. There are holes in the door and they look like they locked people in. But what exactly the holes are for? Just read this book to find out. Then, Tom found something more strange like the writing on the walls and that made him more suspicious about the house. He tried to find out what happened in that house. As he also made friends with his new neighbor Amy and her family, he also felt suspicious about them like they are hiding something.
Lock the Doors was a very intriguing and gripping read. Tons of suspense almost made me feel like reading a horror book and watching a horror movie. I remember watching RL Stines' movie (I never read his book) and the vibe for this book was almost similar. I recommend this book to Karen M. McManus and Holly Jackson's fans too. It really was an enjoyable read and you'd probably stop at nothing until you finish reading this book.

I enjoyed the plot of this book as it had me curious and guessing to why the doors would be locked from the outside, and why there was writing on the walls. Eerie, right? Add to that the fact that the previous owners of the house, including a girl that goes to Tom’s school, now live just up the road from where they previously lived. Why sell a house only to move a few doors down? I enjoyed reading from Tom’s perspective as he discovers all of these strange things and tries to solve the mystery of what is going on. Who really is this girl Amy and why is she so strange? Also, why is her family acting strange as well. Convinced something is going on, Tom befriends Amy and is determined to figure it out for himself.
A good novel that had me hooked on the pages as I read chapter after chapter. I love a good YA novel and this one is one that I definitely recommend.
A new home, a new friend, and a new mystery. Tom’s family has just moved into a new home, but he begins to notice strange messages and locks on the bedroom doors. At school he meets a new girl... who happens to have lived in his house before he moved in and she just might have the answer to his questions... except she is more mystery than answer. Tom is intrigued by Amy, she is beautiful, quiet, and is hiding a secret that gnaws at Tom. He is onto a mystery and for some reason it just won’t leave his mind and he is determined to find out what her secret is and how it relates to his house. He can’t tell if Amy is in danger or if she is the danger. This was an interesting mystery story, it was a quick read and keeps you invested in the mystery. It wraps up everything well by the end and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a quick mystery to pick up!
*Thanks Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire, Sourcebooks Fire for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
okay here me out: it’s giving male savior complex
like the entire first part of the book i was not vibing with tom because he was way too obsessed with this girl
i think i just don’t enjoy male povs to begin with
the suspenseful parts of the book felt too short to me - what was there was good but there was so little of it i can’t fully say whether the book as a whole is suspenseful
the locks part was also pretty small compared to what it was supposed to be
odd family dynamics??? spicy but like also insufferable and unbelievable
very little character development
also guessed plot twist in part 2 but idk if it’s supposed to be a twist
This is like Law and Order: SVU, but the detectives are a couple of teenage boys. Oh, and it’s British. I don’t usually see this type of plot (I don’t want to give away spoilers here) in YA books, and it kept me interested (and updating my wife on the plot) the entire time I was binge-reading this.
Will hand to fans of Karen McManus and Tiffany J. Jackson.
This was my first book to read by this author but I hope to read more soon! The characters and the story stay with you long after you finish it. Good, fast read. Highly recommend!!
