Whispers of a New Dawn is a light and fun read, but I feel very strongly that I am the wrong reader for it.

The religious content is strong, but it's presented in a way that makes sense to the characters and their experiences. This alone sets Pura ahead of the curve but theme was not the only point worth mentioning when reflecting on the merit of this book.

Pura's heroine is spunky and I think Becky will hold great appeal for readers who are looking for stories of fun and spirited young women who push barriers. This historical elements of the story are a little thin, but I thought the scope balanced and diverse enough to interest those with more casual interests than my own.

Having said this, I admit that I needed more complexity than this novel afforded and while I feel it has great content and showcases genuine talent, I have to concede Pura's style and tone held little appeal for my particular tastes.
