This was a fun of you book that many kids will enjoy. I love the descriptive words used and found the ending to be a little surprising even for me! I did not love that both characters who suffered with not fitting in gained popularity by joining sports teams. Although I know that teambuilding is very important I don’t like the message of nerds need to stop being quite so nerdy and put them selves into sports teams to find acceptance.

I reviewed the print version of this book thanks to a digital arc for NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, and won't be able to speak to the narration as it was a voice galley. However, Gordon Korman's books are always crowd pleasers and Operation Do-Over is no exception. The idea of what if we could go back in time and redo a mistake is a universal feeling that many can relate to, and middle grades readers who are just coming into their phase of self-awareness will enjoy this time-travel do-over in order to save a friendship, and hopefully a dog.

The protagonists are interested in time travel and the idea that we have agency to change our own destiny is at the heart of this story. Most of the characters are portrayed as complex and nuanced (appreciating sports and science, redeeming their bad behavior with friendship, fitting in with a variety of cliques). There were a few characters who were more one-dimensional and I would have liked to see them more fleshed out but for a middle grades book, this was fun well-written and adventurous. I highly recommend!

Operation Do-Over is another wonderful story by Gordon Korman. I listened to it while driving. The plot twists kept me listening long after I arrived at my destination!

This book is so appropriate for any junior high kid who feels like an outcast for being smart. One moment can effect the rest of your school life and alter a friendship. But what if you could travel through time and change the outcome? Mason gets the chance to do just that! Great story again by Gordon Korman!

Voice Galley Review. Fun friendship story with a time travel twist. Great for middle school readers looking for something a little different. I will definitely be recommending this to in coming 6th graders this summer when they age up to my department.

Mason and Ty are best friends, that is until Ava showed up, and that messed up their relationship and lives in more ways than one. But it is also a time when Mason gets his do over point to try and make things right not only with Ty, but with other things in his life.

This is another awesome book by Mr. Korman. It has a meaning hidden in the story and maybe even a little time travel too. This is a great book for even those reluctant of readers.

Operation Do-Over has all the things that I have come to love and expect in a Gordon Korman book: an intriguing plot, fast pace, and great dialogue. It’s the reason I recommend his books to the kids who come into my library.
The story begins with 17-year-old Mason just at the moment his life is taken a turn for the worse. It would be too much of a spoiler to say what happens to him, but I can say that he can trace it all back to something that happened when he was 12 years old. And since the words “do over” appear in the title, readers can guess that perhaps something gets strange with the space-time continuum and Mason has the chance to see if he can go back and change how his life turned out.
It’s an enjoyable, quick read, and kids will be intrigued to find out which decisions change his life and which ones don’t. It can also prompt some thoughts and conversations about the nature of fate and what kinds of things we can change about our lives.
I received an advance Net Galley copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

this was a fun little novel with the 2 buddies, a girl coming between them, and, wait, time travel??? fun!! I enjoyed the way the MC dealt with his Back to the Future moments. :)

This was a quick read. Fun Sci-fi novel. Very similar to "Restart" in many ways. Great for students who are interested in time travel, science, and space. You are left wondering if there is actual time travel or if he is dreaming for a while. I thought it was cute. A great option for Middle School readers. A bit sappy for older kids I think.

Mason and Ty are the best of friends. Their friendship is fated to be. The moment that they meet they just knew their friendship would last forever. That is until Ava came into the picture. Can one girl undo years of friendship? A pact is struck that neither boy shall act upon their feelings for Ava. Yet when the pact is broken Mason and Ty become enemies. When a chance encounter causes Mason to be kicked out of his school and his whole life becomes derailed, Mason miraculously time travels back in time to when he is 12 years old and him and Ty are still friends. Will he be able to maintain his friendship this time around? Will actions that he changes in this timeline change the future timeline or is this all an elaborate dream?

This is an interesting book. I kind of liked the fact that Mason maintains his 17 year old conscious through out the story. Thus allowing him to completely change his life, and also allowing him to analyze things differently. I think it is very intriguing that he is able to help out some of the people who in his original 12 year old timeline where his enemies. And while I wouldn't say that they are friends by the end of the book they are at least on better terms. I would love to have more background on how he time traveled. Though I feel the reappearance of local medium is suppose to elude to how he time traveled in the first place. Yet it was so vague if that is the case. Overall I think kids will like this book. It has some funny parts, a decent plot line, and is a pretty smooth read.

Thank you Harper Audio, Balzer + Bray, and Netgalley for allowing me to listen to an advance copy of this book.

Really great book! I knew exactly who to recommend this book to once I listened to it. Fun premise with a nerdy student getting a chance to go back in time, just 5 years, to possibly fix things so he wouldn't lose his best friend by choosing a girl over the friendship. Groundhog Day or 13 Going on 30 or Back to the Future premise, but unique time travel because main character goes back just 5 years instead of to another time and place he hasn't been before. Nerdy friends meet a nerdy new girl in middle school and realize they may have to choose between friendship and a date. Light, not too intense, and some twists with the time travel.

Friendship is at the heart of the novel. This will appeal to fans of time travel and second chances. Reminiscent of Restart, Gordon Kornman uses humor to show Mason and Ty’s relationship and how it took a turn for the worse. Readers will be interested to see how Mason learns from his mistakes to get a better outcome.

Strong story that would appeal to any middle school student, the option to do things over again. I found the characters likeable and I also liked how he placed small incidents from his past that changed abs made a huge difference

I was able to listen to this audiobook as an ARC from NetGalley. Mason is a seventeen year old who has had a falling out with his best friend, Ty, over a girl. One day he wakes up after a car wreck and is 12 again. He has a chance to make things right with his best friend, but will his pull to the girl still be an obstacle? This delightful book is a fun read with great messages about friendship and fitting in. I would strongly recommend this for any middle or high school.

What if everything that went wrong in your life from 7th to 12the grade was started by a single incident when you were 12? What if you got a do-over? Mason and Ty were inseparable until 7th grade when a broken oath sets off a domino chain of events leading to a life Mason desperately wants to change as a 17 year-old. But when he wakes up as a 12 year-old again, it looks like Mason is getting his wish- as long as he can keep his 7th grade life together long enough to make big changes.
This is another great read from Gordon Korman, sure to delight his middle-grade fans!

I still have the hardest time with audiobooks on netgalley but that aside this title was amazing. Korman's storys are always so beautifully written and the characters are all enjoyable. I liked the theme to this book and believe that many kids will enjoy it.

The book was fantastic! Gordon Korman never disappoints. I liked Mason a lot and totally related to his plight. It feels like a middle school book. Mason goes back and forth between being 12 and 17. The cover definitely looks like it's targeted toward younger children, but I do feel like it's more a middle school story.

Mason and Ty are destined to be best friends. Fate brings them together in nerdiness just as a girl brings them apart. Sounds like every cliche out there. Two nerdy guys fall for the same girl. Their friendship is splintered because of it. But what if the nerds were studying time travel? And what if... one of their time traveling theories is made possible just at the worse possible moment?
Then you found find yourself with a copy of Operation Do-Over.
I love the idea that some friendships are worth saving no matter the cost. Mason has to repeat middle school and no one is about that life... especially not after just being a 17 year old senior about to graduate. No more driving. No impending graduation. No college on the horizon. It's not all bad though. His dog is still alive, his parents are still together and he hasn't lost his best friend yet. I was vehemently cheering for Mason and Ty's friendship to defy fate and destiny the second time around. The more Mason avoids Ava, the more they are thrown together in absolutely hilarious situations.
I love that Mason lives his best life during his second chance and takes big chances/makes big changes. This book makes me wonder what I would do differently and what I would try to save if I had a 7th grade do-over.
As with all things written by Gordon Korman, I highly recommend this one! (It was made especially more fun for me as I have students with just about every name in this book this year and I visualized them as I listened to this story which made it even better!)

If you are looking for a sci-fi that is heavy on accurate science, this is not your book. This is a fun introduction into the sci-fi genre for young readers who typically prefer contemporary fiction. I would call it gateway sci-fi.

Gordon Korman is so skilled at writing fun, wholesome books that the whole family can enjoy together. However, I think his special superpower is his ability to capture the imagination and interest of reluctant and emerging readers. Operation Do-Over is a classic example of Korman’s writing skill. I know I will be recommending this book to many young people.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to a voicegalley version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
