This book is amazing! As someone who is starting their self-sufficiency journey, finding things that we can do at home is a huge win. This book has everything from salt dough ornaments to making syrup and I even information about fruits and gardening. I love this book for me and my kids and I think this would make a really fun gift. Even if homesteading is the furthest thing away for some people, this book would make a great addition to anyones library. The illustrations were amazing, the book itself had great information and my kids enjoyed learning what this book had to offer.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Ivy Kids for my copy of Little Homesteader: A Winter Treasury of Recipes, Crafts, and Wisdom
by Angela Ferraro-Fanning in exchange for an honest review. It publishes September 6, 2022.
What a gorgeous, informative book! I think this would be perfect on any children’s shelf. This would make a great gift and activity for winters to come! Highly recommend!
This series is amazing, each book represents a season and the Winter treasury was an amazing collection of crafts, arts, and recipes of things you can make with your children. As the book series is American, we have our Winter Christmas Arts and nice warm recipes to cozy up with. With recipes on how to make your Christmas cocoa and Christmas decorations. The other amazing thing is that the book just has that old-timey feel to it that reminds me of the Little House on the Prarie and I can imagine a time before technology where the mum and her children are sitting in front of the fireplace working together to create great memories. This series is also perfect for homeschoolers as it comes complete with lots of different activities that can help in several curriculum strands from Art, STEM, etc. The other thing I loved about this book is the illustrations have a great wholesome family feel to the book that you just can't help but smile and have this quality family time feelings. The Little Country Cottage series is the perfect book for children aged 5-12 years old and perfect for both boys and girls.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I am enjoying these little homesteader books. This one is based on winter and has crafts, recipes, stories, and more.
A delightful collection of inspirational works to build your own winter traditions. Little Homesteader: A Winter Treasury of Recipes, Crafts, and Wisdom by Angela Ferraro-Fanning provides readers with lots of examples of new experiences, with beautiful illustrations to accompany it.
This is such a charming book with beautiful illustrations that I think kids and their parents will enjoy. There are many recipes and crafts. I love the idea of using this book to spot winter animals. I will be purchasing this book for our juvenile nonfiction section.
Well this book is just about the cutest thing you’re going to see today. I love the illustrations, they are so beautiful and go perfectly with the theme of “cozy” and a little sprinkle of Christmas. I enjoy how the author lays out this book, it is very organized and well thought out. The information given is interesting but not too much that you can’t take it in. This is not your typical kids craft book, it is so much more! There are multiple sections on growing things we use a lot in the winter, and what that process looks like. Also how to use these items like citrus, maple syrup, pine cones and other foliage. I think showing kids how to use these items and possibly replacing something you would buy with something you can find opens their minds to another level of creativity. The illustrations showing animal tracks was such a neat idea and helps kids to be aware of what they are seeing when looking at tracks. I would recommend this book to anyone with a child in their life, and I will definitely be looking for the other seasons the author has available. The title is perfect, a treasury indeed!
**Will post to goodreads when book is published**
Beautifully illustrated book for the entire family. The projects are varied - some can be done my kids alone, some will need adult help. Perfect for any group that needs crafts - like classrooms, scouts, or youth groups.
I'm a fan of craft books regardless of the intended audience. I'm especially fond of books that explain "old school" skills, especially when the project is a practical one. This book does a fairly good job of balancing teaching useful skills and recognizing the abilities of a young child.
One fun book to have during wintertime. Not only full of activities to do, with cute illustrations, there are also reading materials to add to your knowledge. I personally like the content, although living in a tropical island (therefore no winter), but I can do some of the activities.
Through recipes, crafts , and nature this beautifully illustrated picture book highlights the delights of the winter season. It just ended too quickly.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Little Homesteader:A winter Treasury of Recipes,Crafts and Wisdom is a stunning illustrated book jam packed with so much wisdom, inspiration and festive cheer!
I loved this book, especially the decorations and recipes!
There's so much to take away from this book for any child and grown up! Such a fun festive book!
This would make sense lovely gift or tradition to share with your children and pass down through the family.
I can't wait to try out some if the ideas in this book with my little one this month!
This book was filled with literally EVERYTHING my children (would) enjoy about winter. Crafts, treats, activities. It's like a little winter Pinterest board for kids full of color and great ideas. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone with kiddos that like to keep busy, especially during the winter months, which can sometimes get a bit ... boring!
Thank you to the author, the Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This childrens's book is appealingly illustrated and incorporates some great ideas for winter activities. There are some excellent crafty things included, with an emphasis on zero-waste and environmentally friendly. However, there are some ideas that I really clashed with (Tapping random trees for syrup? Really?) and on the whole the kids I read this with found it a bit too precious. If I understood them correctly, they felt there was a disconnect between the design and the age the content was aimed at.
I read this ARC via NetGalley, with my 11 year old. This is our review.
We loved this book!
There is something from everyone: recipes, nature, gardening, wildlife, crafts. The illustrations are most adorable and the instructions super clear, precise and scattered with details to ensure success. The layout is perfect.
This would make a fabulous gift for any Kindergarten or Elementary school kiddo.
Well done!
This book was fun to read. There are a lot of things about the winter season that I did not know until I read this book. How to make syrup, which trees give syrup, how to grow a citrus tree, what animals are around during winter and which ones hibernate. There is a lot of information in a short amount of pages, which can be a little overwhelming for kiddos, but those that are interested in the subject matter won't mind. There was more recipes and craft ideas than information and that kind of was not the most fun for me, but others that read this book might like that more than I did.
Wonderful book to help stave away winter boredom for little ones. Recipes, crafts and even some science-y activities. The illustrations are so pretty and colorful.
Little Homesteader is a well written and heartwarming collection of hands-on crafts and activities for young readers by Angela Ferraro-Fanning. Released 7th Sept 2021 by Quarto on their Ivy Kids imprint, it's 32 pages and is available in paperback format.
This is such a fun book with lots of colorful illustrations by Annaliesdraws which are full of small details and suit the simple projects very well. There's such a wholesome and inclusive vibe throughout that I found myself smiling along. The projects are safe and will provide lots of ideas for families with young kids. There are some projects which can be done alone, but the ones which need adult supervision are clearly marked. They're all winter themed and include both indoor and outdoor activities. Some of the projects are also designed to help support wildlife with food and shelter/habitat.
This would make a great choice for public or classroom library acquisition, maker's groups, scouting/activity groups, church youth groups, and families. The included projects are aimed at roughly 5-8 year olds, but can be adjusted.
Five stars. Fun projects, a wholesome book.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book was SO adorable. Full of fun, colorful and festive illustrations. Tidbits of information. Recipes and crafts that will keep everyone busy all winter long! ❄️
