It is an interesting intertwining of the factual with fictional characters to put a new spin on a true crime. Enjoyable listen, not to be mistaken for the real story, but nicely done.

This novel is slow, and boring. The story drags. I was expecting more because it is based on a true story but it was disappointing.

This book has a really smoothly flowing plot. From beginning to end, I felt connected to the characters and interested in where the plot was going.

Twisty, chilling thriller, based on a true story. Intense and suspenseful. Dark and creepy. Perfect October read.

Queenie has a great life. She's the belle of the ball at the Moonlight Club, singing as the front for the band. Men are crazy about her and each one gives her better gifts than the last, hoping to win her over. She's just been offered a contract to leave London and go sing on Broadway in New York. Her best friends are Terry, the piano player at the club and Joy who waits tables there.

But one mistake one night with one man changes everything. Queenie finds herself in the same situation as many other unwed mothers, desperate to find a way to have the baby go away. Terry asks around and finds her a name. John Reginald Christie was rumored to have trained as a doctor before the war and supposedly has helped many girls. Of course the truth is that this is the Christie who killed girls when they walked into his apartment house. Will Goldie fall into his trap?

Rebecca Griffiths grew up in Wales and received an Honors First Class degree in English Literature. After living in London for a while she has returned to Wales where she lives with her artist husband. She writes in the suspense genre and does a terrific job. This book was based on the real life serial killer, John Reginald Christie, who killed at least eight women after promising to help them get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. He was known for his mild mannered appearance and the contrast between his appearance and his acts has kept him famous. As he stalks Goldie and Joy through the streets of London, the reader's tension rises and rises. This book is recommended for mystery readers.

The Girl At My Door is a story of three fictional characters, their hopes, dreams and the tragedy that besets them which coincides with the incidents and killings of the serial killer John Reginald Christie also known as the Rillington Place killer.

I listened to the audiobook a year ago and although I can't recall the particulars I did enjoy the book overall. The parts dealing with John Reginald were chilling and Jonathan Keeble did a great job of bringing his character's creepiness, darkness and depravity to life through his narration. Even the female narrator Daphne Kourma was good with her parts but Jonathan was a notch better. I hadn't heard about Reginald Christie before this book and while listening to the audiobook I researched him and his complete timeline of crimes which the author does share with the readers in the epilogue. Very disturbing and chilling!

As for the three fictional characters--Queenie, Joy and Charles Gilchrist--they do not become direct victims of Christie but their story arc brings forth a tragic end of its own which personally I felt was unnecessary.

My thanks to NetGalley, the audiobook publisher Bookouture Audio and the author for the audio Arc of the book.

OMG what have I just listened to! This is probably one of the most spine-chilling audio books I have ever listened too! It really is incredible. The male narrator, Jonathon Keeble was truly outstanding at creating suspense and his embodiment of John Reginald Christie is utterly creepy. When Christie is hiding in the shadows following Queenie he actually made me recoil when he spoke from the depths of the darkness.
Being based on the true crime of Christie is really was one of the most disturbing books I have listened too. Yet I could not stop listening. The writing is outstanding and it does not let up until the very last page.. Highly highly recommended audio, It is magnificent and deserves all the praise it receives. If I could give more than 5 stars then I absolutely would. A sublime audio book!

The Girl at my Door is set in the late 1940’s, in London. It is a book based on a Serial Killer of Rillington Place Murders (John Christie). Also including two best friends Queenie & Joy. Their friendship was once in a lifetime!

I really enjoyed this book! I had watched the TV series so this book was very intriguing to me from the go! Knowing that Christie was based on a real person, someone who actually killed people had me feeling a little disgusted at certain parts but not Necessarily in a bad way. I couldn’t put this book down! Such a great read I highly recommend this book if you enjoy true crime, crime fiction, realistic fiction.

Based on a True story 👍
Written by one of my fav authors 👍
Intense
Suspenseful

It has all the the sinister vibes from the true events.

Hooked, yes I was hooked. Walking around with my headphones on listening to this wonderfully narrated book. So well written and so well told.

I love creepy stalkery (just made that word up!) books that make me tense and edgy.

Loved it.

Audio version of this book 📚- Wow 🤩 what a fantastic read/listen ! The author cleverly intertwined fiction with non fiction and created a storyline that had you gripped from start to finish ! Pure Brilliance!

The female narrator was great and really bought the characters of Queenie and Joy to life, but the Male narrators portrayal of Christie sent shivers down your spine just as the author intended ! Excellent!

This was an ok thriller with good twists, nothing stand out and nothing I will remember in a week. I liked it and would pick up more by this author but I’ve seen some weird reviews about trolling which makes me hesitant

Deep, dark and creepy. This book really illustrates with you can get a creepy feeling out of nowhere, but dismiss it because you think your must be overreacting….right? Well, sometimes we learn that maybe you should start following your instincts more. After this book you’ll start looking over your shoulder and listening closer to strange sounds that seem to come from nowhere.

I was quickly drawn in from the start of this audiobook and couldn’t wait to where the twists were going. The narration is excellent and really added some additional layer to the creepiness factor of some of the characters.

I’ve never had a historical fiction book read like a psychological thriller, which was a fascinating perspective.

Thanks to the publisher for providing the audiobook of The Girl at My Door in exchange for an honest review.

Normally I find that mystery/thrillers are the best kind of audiobooks at holding my attention but this one is such a slowburn that I don't think it really worked in audiobook format and it really started to feel like a chore everything I tired to get back into it. I'm not sure if that was an issue with the actual book or me just not being built for the format though.

I unfortunately did not love this one. I see what it was trying to do, but really missed the mark in my opinion. If you are looking for a good dark, psychological thriller, this is not it. I would say this is more in the realm of historical crime with some romance and horror thrown in. This got 3 stars from me because of all the chapters focusing on Christie ='s POV. They are fabulously creepy and twisted. His dark mind and his cruel thinking are revealed in such a way that you can’t help feeling threatened by him. These chapters will send shudders down your spine every single time. However, when the POV switched to one of the girls, the mood immediately shifted and my interest seemed to lack. This had a lot of potential to be great but I think the constant shift in mood made it hard to connect with any of the girls. The audiobook was pretty well done, but in the beginning so many characters are introduced that it is a bit hard to grasp what exactly is going on. This was part of why it took me a bit to even get into this book mentally. Overall, I think many readers will enjoy this but it wasn't for me. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is everything you want in a suspenseful winter read. It's fast-paced with countless twists and turns. If you love murder mysteries or true-crime podcasts, this book is definitely something you'll enjoy. It's inspired by the real-life events of the Rillington Place murders.

If I could sum up this book in one sentence, I'd say it's historical fiction meets suspenseful thriller, set in 1949 London featuring two best friends and one creepy killer.

Thank you to #NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this title.

Being a fan of true crime, the story was familiar, although the characters were completely fictional. Did I enjoy the book? To an extent yes. However, I do feel the tryst that undid the lives of some key characters were a bit of a cheap shot and that Joy's fate was a bit of a cop-out. The author captured the era well, I thought.

First and foremost, I thought the narration of this book was done fabulously. That was by far my favorite part of my listening experience.

I thought the first half of this book was very well done and extremely clever. The midway twist of this book surprised me and made me physically gasp. I also thought meeting the killer early on in the book was an extremely smart move as well.

I didn't particularly care about a few of our main characters. I thought two of the main characters fell a little flat and stayed that way for a while until about the 75% mark. I also didn't care for one trope thrown into the book that I won't put in my review for the sake of spoilers.

I would highly recommend the audiobook while reading the physical book as well since we have 3rd person narratives. It was a little disjointed at times when going back and forth between the thoughts of characters in the story.

I really enjoyed this Audio book.
The story is set in the late 1940's and focus's on the friendship of Queenie Osbourne a budding night club singer who is moving on to better things after getting a recording contract in America and her best friend from childhood Joy .

Throw into the mix Rillington Place killer John Reginald Christie and you have a real thriller , I loved how the author portrayed Christie and how he fitted into the whole story line
The narrator was really good and portrayed him so well I took an instant dislike to him
I don't want to give any spoilers so will say if you like a good thriller here it is
