This book was such a good introduction to what affects our eating. There is so much psychology to what we eat and this explained it in a really clear and compassionate way. I have defiantly been more mindful about my food choices and in the process of eating itself. This is a must read for everyone to understand how our brain affects what we eat.
I liked that this devotional type, informative book is not just about food and/or another diet plan to follow. This author looks at the ways you can uncover the why’s as to your struggle with weight loss and food triggers.
This book is revealing, motivating, and insightful. I like how the author shares from her own life and struggles and what helped her in the long run.
I liked how the author identifies common triggers for people in her experience. The author says, once we identify them, we can deal with them.
This book is made to be read daily, not all at once. I liked that and the practical tools she provides to help turn off negative self-talk, lower your stress levels, and biblical insight to reestablish a healthy relationship with food and renew your faith. It’s a win! Win!

If you are like me you have struggled since childhood to try to fix your weight/food issues over and over and over again. Saying maybe this will be the last book, last diet, last… getting tired of trying yet again and feeling nothing is ever gonna work.
I tend to get annoyed with Christian books on weight loss. They tend to make you feel bad about yourself. Guilty… “If you were only more spiritually disciplined … “ or “walking closer with God!” I feel these can be harmful like any other judgment we put on others or we put on ourselves.
I had read a few reviews before writing my own and was actually pretty surprised by some of them. I did not feel Amber Lia was putting anything “unhealthy” on anyone. I chose this book because I wanted to look at my food triggers and see if I could find some helps and I feel I got what I needed. I was able to get much out. I appreciated her words. I read the book and listened to the audio book.
I think the audiobook was easy to listen to and you got how things were said… not with judgement or condemnation. Let’s be real… reading non fiction books can be like reading an email from an enemy and filtered through our own issues and mindset. Audiobooks help me to get out of my head and listen openly!!!
Of course everyone will get as much or as little out of the book as they are open to getting. This book helped me get back in to making healthy choices and making time to take care of my self mindfully. I will definitely be referring back to this book.
I alternated reading the ebook & listening to the audiobook. Occasionally both while taking notes.
I received a complimentary ARC and Audiobook of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.
This is an excellent book to pick up and help identify how to overcome food triggers with a Christian perspective. At times, this book was uncomfortable, but just what I needed.
Food Triggers was a non-fiction, Christian, self-help type book for people who struggle with food. The author combines personal experience with stories from the Bible and prayer. It's meant to be read as a chapter a day, devotional type book. I did really like a lot of what the author was saying and I wish I had read this at a different time in my life (being pregnant, I really couldn't do too much with some of the advice she was giving lol) because I do think that it could be helpful with my struggles I've had with food. I would recommend this book, but only to a select group of people (those struggling with food/eating disorders and Christians).
This was a really good book. I enjoyed the way it covered so many different triggers and challenges we can have when it comes to food. It has a good variety of scriptural references and clearly comes from a Christian perspective.
This book reinforced a lot of things I already do due to IBS and Diverticulosis. These things include setting personal goals, following a shopping list, find and use healthy recipes, get quality sleep, don’t weigh yourself daily. I also keep a food diary, which reinforces eating healthy things like fruit veggies and protein.
I really like the saying used in the book “Waste is not good for your waist”. Learn when you have had enough and stop. It reminded readers that it is okay not to finish food when at home or eating out (either save portion for another time, or if eating out send home with your companion) and not to finish up food that your child leaves.
Hydration is important. I use a recommended tip to have a visual reminder of the water you need to drink. A jug on the counter is a reminder to drink it up by the end of the day. The book recommends cutting down on caffeine and alcohol, which are’t issues for me as I don’t consume those items.
The book really didn’t deal in specific foods that are/could be triggers but instead gave various strategies to use to help you reach your goals.
I was sent these books to review from the Nuts About Books program at Graf-Martin Communications. After reading the books are donated to the Christian thrift store, the local library, or left in little free libraries for others to enjoy,
I personally didn’t love this book. I didn’t connect with it at all. I am certain the author didn’t intend for it to be this way but parts seemed a bit judgmental. I almost felt talked down to instead of encouraged. There are definitely some practical tips that can be useful but overall it’s not a game-changer in regards to food and eating.
In food triggers. Amber shares helpful tips with relatable stories on replacing food triggers with healthy habits. I found this book really helpful and amazing and I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to live healthy and make it a lifestyle
Amber Lia is a health coach who knows about losing weight as she has had to in the past and helps others. The book is broken down into a chapter a day for a month to give daily encouragement, I liked the prayers and verses that she added to help encourage. Many medical reasons are given for weight control and then reasons that it is hard to do that! Amber Lia does a good job giving help on overcoming the reasons people fail on losing weight or keeping it off successfully.
While there isn't anything new in this book, I love that it's written to encourage as a daily read to those that need it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley, but all opinions are my own.
I adore food but it's a struggle to have a healthy relationship with it, so this is such an interesting premise. I recommend because of the topic itself, writing style, and result of giving "food for thought." :)
In Food Triggers, Exchanging Unhealthy Patterns for God-Honoring Habits, Amber Lia could have been writing my personal story about unhealthy eating patterns! I related intimately to most of the chapters about external triggers, internal triggers, and triggers I didn’t realize were responsible for my poor food choices. Happily for me and for other readers seeking biblical foundations for wise eating, Lia provides God-honoring reasons to change, practical steps to take, and guiding prayers. I am so encouraged that finally I can conquer this troublesome area in my walk with Him.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review.
Never have I used scripture while dealing with food struggles. I was very interested in some of the helpful hints that were offered.
Thank you Bethany House, Bethany House Publishers, and NetGalley for the advance read
As someone who has struggled with their weight all their life, this book was a God sent. Amber Ali discusses 31 “food triggers” that have an impact on how and why we gain weight. She offers Biblical insight into how men and women can combat those “triggers” so they no longer go to food to fill their needs, but rather to God.
I found myself writing out her powerful quotes and taking copious amounts of notes while reading. In doing so, I will be able to look back and be held accountable if and when “triggers” start to creep into my life.
Special thanks to NetGalley.com and Bethany House Publishers for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my pure and honest feedback.
This is one of the best books I have read about getting healthy. Amber does a fabulous job of connecting the journey to get healthy physically with getting healthy spiritually. It's full of practical advice and is very relatable because Amber has been through all of this herself. Broken down into 31 chapters, this book is an excellent resource for anyone desiring to make a change in their lifestyle gradually over time, I have highlighted so much of the book and have so many take-aways from it. It's inspirational and life-changing. Very eye opening to how God desires us to use our bodies and our lives for His glory and how our everyday healthy choices can honor Him. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to get healthy and will definitely be referencing it for myself!

I liked the 30 day format, as building one habit onto another is more helpful in creating change. I especially liked how Lia separated the triggers into two parts: external and internal. There isn’t anything groundbreaking in here, but when presented together, my triggers were more clearly seen and understood. Lia is vulnerable and encouraging. She doesn’t shame. She offers a gentle approach to overcoming something that has a hold on so many.
I’d actually give this book a 3.5 stars. There were some very thought provoking chapters, and I appreciated her words regarding internal triggers. The stress eating and emotional eating sections were very applicable.
I didn’t rate this book higher because at times it sounded like an advertisement for her other books and a commercial for a health coach. Realistically, even when prioritizing one’s health., not all people will have the means to employ a professional health coach.
This is the most recent book of the series Triggers of Amber Lía. In this book she navigated in all internal and external food triggers that we can face in our battle with the way we relate to the food. With a biblical view throug her own experience and testimony she offers you very practical ways to overcome our food Triggers and honoring God with a healthy lifestyle, taking care of our bodies, which is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. It's very easy to read, you can read a chapter a day like a devotional.
I love love loved Food Triggers by Amber Lia.
This highly readable book focuses on realistic self-reflection and facing food triggers head on to have lasting change. Amber Lia has an open and likable writing style that I appreciated.
The book is set up so a person can go through it almost like a devotional, in daily short chapters. Each chapter challenges common food triggers, mindset, and gives wisdom as to how to avoid those food triggers.
I found this so relatable and extremely helpful. Honestly, it's going to be a re-read for me.
"Pick your poison. Or find your purpose." - Food Triggers
This book breaks down external and internal triggers to help you change unhealthy habits to God-honoring habits. Amber not only explains her journey in each chapter but also provides alternatives for you. I also really love the prayer at the end of each chapter to ask God to help you on this journey.
I have already started measuring all condiments out and teaching my kids to read labels and measure rather than just dumping them on their plate. They love getting out measuring spoons and helping.
In the "When You Are Bored" chapter, Amber spoke of how she would die for her children but the daily routine of her life was uninspiring. The quote that stands out, "I loved being a mom, but I did not love my life— or the feelings of guilt for not being complete and content with where God had me," is exactly where I am at this moment.
Amber spoke to my soul through this book and I'm so excited to put these practices to use this year and change my eating habits to honor God.
