Childhood sweethearts finally married, and then three months later the bride was dead.
At first they thought it was an accident, but then it was ruled a homicide.
Who could have killed her? The husband is always the first to suspect, and since he found her, who else would be a likely suspect? They did live in a remote area, but why would anyone want her dead?
There were quite a few people I had in mind. Ms. Watson kept me guessing until the end. Her writing style and story line will keep you turning the pages.
The characters were perfect and well developed and the suspense and buildup will keep any psychological thriller reader happy.
Secrets abound along with a GREAT story line.
This is an oh so good, do not miss read.
Will you guess correctly? 5/5
This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first Sue Watson book and I was very impressed. I loved the storyline with the twists in it, just as you think the killer is unmasked something comes along to change things. I thought it started off quite slow but then soon picked up the pace.I loved the book and will definitely look to read more by this author
The New Wife by S. Watson, published by Bookouture is a gripping read, a psychological thriller. Asingle mom, Georgie, is so happy to getting a daughter-in-law. Her son Sam and Lauren are childhood sweethearts and now they're tying the knot. Everything should be peachy, but 3 month later, Lauren is dead.
And Georgie is determined to find the murderer.
So starts out this story full of unexpected twists and turns at every corner that had me in suspense right from the start til the last page.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the thriller I didn't know I needed!! I have been having a hard time getting into a few thrillers I've started lately but The New Wife really did everything it needed to for me. Knocked it out of the park with the twist!
The New Wife by Sue Watson is a gripping thriller that keeps you guessing. San and Lauren are high school sweethearts who just got married. A few short weeks later, Lauren is found dead at the bottom of the stairs. Who would want to murder this sweet and amazing woman?
The New Wife by Sue Watson. Iβm not sure if I have read any of her books before but I can tell you this wonβt be my last!!
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early in exchange for a honest review.
This book, whoa wow! It had so many twists and turns and kept me guessing through the entire book! So many secrets in one family that is began to be hard to keep up! Talk about dysfunction, the Jacksonβs were masters at dysfunction!
I continued to guess who done it through out the whole book and was quite floored at the end, then boom another twist!
Great book, off to look for some more by this author.

An awesomely brilliant story that kept serving plot twists every few chapters, this book had me on edge, till the very last page.
When her son Sam marries his childhood sweetheart Lauren, 45-year old Georgie is overjoyed that her best friends, Tim and Helen Jackson, Lauren's parents, have now become family. But three months later Lauren is found dead and Sam is incarcerated for her murder. With the Jacksons drowning in their own grief, Georgie takes it upon herself to find out the truth and free her son. But she soon realizes that everyone seems to be hiding something and that she can no longer trust anyone; not even Sam.
The narrative was entirely from Georgie's POV and so the writing style mostly had a chatty, conversational feel. But at times, there was an almost poetic quality to the author's descriptions - like in the wedding scene or when comparing the spiral marble staircase to a killer.
The protagonist, Georgie, while loyal, caring and supportive, is sometimes shown to be too trusting and frustratingly naive of those around her. In contrast, every other character seemed shady and therefore a likely suspect. The suspense factor is so high that it begs to be read in a single sitting. And I applaud the author for ending the story on yet another plot twist that literally left me open-mouthed..!!!
Overall, simply brilliant. This book kept me up all night and I don't even regret it; infact, I think I have found my new favourite author.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I love everything Sue Watson puts out into the world. First Date started my thriller obsession, and it's been a joyride of twists and turns ever since.
I was drawn to The New Wife because, d'uh, it's Sue, hello! But what also caught my attention was the delicious cover. When I saw Bookouture and Sue post about this via Instagram and Twitter, of course I was rubbing my hands together in anticipation.
The new wife is a story about Georgie's son, Sam, a handsome, successful young man who has just married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart, Lauren. Lauren and Sam first met at 5 years old on their first day of school and, in turn, Georgie met Lauren's mum, Helen, and the mums also became fast friends, their two families coming together as one.
Fast forward twenty-something years and Sam is phoning his mum in a distraught panic to tell her he's just come home from work to find his new wife dead! Sam is almost immediately suspected and subsequently charged with Lauren's murder... but did he do it?
Like all Sue Watson's thrillers, nothing is as it seems. As the reader you immediately suspect one person, only to change your mind at least every few chapters; more twists and turns than a roller coaster.
What I LOVED about The New Wife:
The setting and the way in which Sue Watson writes so that the reader actually feels as if they're right there in the thick of it all.
What I didn't quite love about The New Wife:
I felt the story dragged on a little; I must admit I did skim a fair chunk of the last third.
I would have loved multiple POVs; Georgie, Helen, Sam and Sadie - that would have given it that little more edge, I believe. Otherwise it kind of read a little like a long-winded internal monologue.
Thank you so much to Bookouture and Sue Watson for allowing me the opportunity to read and review The New Wife. I cannot wait for the next page-turner from one of my all-time favourite authors.
Big fan of Sue Watson here. I know to expect a domestic thriller with twists and revelations until the last page. Georgie and Helen are besties snd they have just celebrated the wedding of Georgieβs son, Sam, to Helenβs daughter, Lauren. The future is settled, grandchildren planned and the two families are now officially joined as one. Tragedy strikes a few months after the wedding. Fractures erupts, appearances are deceptive, hidden liaisons come to a head and we learn once again, that we see what we want and nothing is really as it seems.
Hold onto your hats for this read! I felt like I was in a maze and every time I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong! What a fantastic story line. Sam and Lauren met when they were small children and they ended up having a storybook wedding. Three months after the wedding, Sam returns home from work to find Lauren at the bottom of the staircase covered in blood and unresponsive. The death was ruled a homicide and Sam was arrested for her murder. Did he do it, or was it someone else who did it??? Lots of suspects begin to appear and just when you get an ah-ha moment and think you know who did do it, things change again. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and turning pages until well past my bedtime.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this very suspenseful page-turner in exchange for an honest review.
Twisty plot with non-stop action. Written from the point of view of Mom to Sam, Georgie. Sam just married his long time sweetheart, Lauren, and then a few weeks later, she was found dead at the bottom of their staircase. Sam and Lauren and their families are very close and have been for many years... Georgie starts investigating herself after Sam is arrested. The story has some interesting mysteries that need to be solved and several characters could be the murderer. Not a book I could put down easily because I really wanted to know who did it! Quick read, definitely worth your time!!
To be honest I wasn't sure in the beginning if I would finish this book but then towards the middle it started getting a lot better (still had to put assumptions on and go with the flow) but I did like how the author tidied up all the loose ends.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
It was an interesting book. Although, some characters are not fully developed such as Sadie and Kate. Yet their characters I thought were pivotal to the story. At times the pace was extremely slow as if the author would like to drag out drama and suspense; however, to me it added nothing to the story. That content was empty. The ending has a little twist that I thought was a nice ending. It's worth the read, but it didn't hold up to her other books.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Filled with mystery, lies and suspense, I LOVED this read!
Definitely one of those books where I was 100% suspicious of EVERY character - trust no one! Rest assured, your opinions of the characters will continuously change.
A highly recommended novel with a truly satisfying ending (even with the plot twists being thrown in on the last page!).
What are you waiting for?!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review π
Wow, what a suspenseful read! It had me guessing until the very end, and not sure of who to trust! Sam had no idea that when he married Lauren, his childhood sweetheart, that she would be dead three months into their marriage! Being the husband, all suspicions point to Sam. His mom, Georgie, swears by his innocence, and tries everything in her power to figure out who really killed Lauren. You will be on the edge of your seat until the very last page. What a twist that I did not see coming!
I am grateful to Netgalley and bookouture for an advanced copy to read and review.
I am a fan of Ms. Watsonβs psychological thrillers, and this is a good one!
Sam and Lauren, childhood sweethearts, have just gotten married. Their two families are very close. Barely three months after the wedding, Lauren is found dead at the isolated cottage the couple recently bought. The secrets and lies slowly unfold in this compelling whodunnit. Recommended!
I loved this book! Itβs definitely the best yet by Sue Watson. I really thought I had it all worked out and then it took an unexpected twist.
This is beautifully written, engaging and engrossing.
Itβs definitely a 5 star read.
Iβm now off to read some more of her previous onesβ¦.
4.5 twisted stars. Wow. What a twisty thriller and mystery as to who killed Lauren. I read this book entirely too fast as I couldnβt put it down. This author really captures your attention throughout the whole story.. And a very suspenseful ending that I didnβt see coming. I already recommended it to 2 friends today and will be writing my review on Goodreads today. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy of this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book. This was the first book I've read from Sue Watson. Once I started, I had to keep reading. I really thought I knew who the killer was but changed my mind a few times and was wrong in the end, of course. It was hard getting used to the spelling of words, different from American English. I also thought some phrasing and words were used to repeatedly, such as he/she knew something. The plot could have been more mysterious but it kept my attention to finish.
I found this book fast paced with plenty of action. Sam and Lauren have only been married 3 months when he rings his mum to tell her his wife Lauren is dead. His mum Georgie is shocked but rallies round her son believing him innocent. She is hoping that he isn't abusive like his father was to her. Everyone has secrets even hs dead wife Lauren. The truth will come out in the end.
