It could easily be just what you need!
I received a complementary copy of this book
And this is my honest review, please take a look.
When I spotted another book involving Kate Palmer
Let's just say, I wasn't calmer!
Nurse Kate Palmer is getting a reputation for solving crime
She doesn't mean to get involved, well not every time!
She's at the wedding when the groom drops down, dead
She tries to revive him but needs to solve his murder instead.
With anonymous letters tearing the engaged apart
And lots of families having drama right from the start
This is an intriguing investigation but beware
More lives are in danger so Kate and Woody, please take care!
What a fascinating read this story proved to be
With plenty of clues, romance and mystery
Such a page-turner with drama and danger throughout
I highly recommend it without any doubt!!

Nurse Kate Palmer thought the pretty Cornish village of Tinworthy would be the perfect place for a peaceful retirement. She couldn’t have been more wrong! But even she is shocked when she attends a beautiful wedding at St. Pirin’s Church and Joe the handsome groom drops dead in front of her very eyes. Whilst Kate & her partner Woody Forrest try to save Joe the rest of the wedding party panics, Kate vows to find out the truth behind the poor young man’s sudden demise. There’s a new detective Charlotte Martin who shows an interest in Woody. Kate discovers this isn’t the only wedding to have been sabotaged as series of anonymous letters have revealed hidden truths to the would be grooms. Then there's another murder as Kate digs deeper, she adds more suspects to her growing list of suspects. But, as a pair of boots bring Kate closer to the killer, it becomes clear their investigation has placed Woody in danger.
This is the fourth outing for Kate & once again it’s a well written page turner with red herrings & twists & turns. There's also the relationship between Kate & Woody as well as her sister Angie’s romance with Fergus & a new detective who could maybe rock the boat all happening as Kate & Woody try to find the murderer. However secrets threaten relationships & this time has Kate gone too far? I thoroughly enjoyed the book & whilst it could easily be read on its own I’d recommend reading the series to fully appreciate all the characters & how they interact. One of the things I love most about this series is that both Kate & Woody are in their sixties.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This was a nice book but I didn't find it particularly gripping. I've read a lot of murder mystery novels and sadly this one just didn't live up to expectations.
First, I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for a gifted eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was very attracted by the cover and the blurb, and the story definitely delivered.
The book is the fourth book in the Kate Palmer cozy mystery series. It is set in England, with the protagonist, Kate Palmer, being a modern day nurse in her 60's. She has a knack for solving the local mysteries, of which there seems to be an abundance. The story begins with a bridegroom dying bang in the middle of his wedding, just before being able to take his vows. While the death seems natural enough, albeit a bit sudden, Kate's interest is piqued when she learns that a number of weddings have been cancelled in the village in the recent past. Her doubts are further confirmed when the postmortem report of the poor guy suggests that he was poisoned. Kate and her ex-detective boyfriend then try to unravel the mystery.
What I liked most about this book is the character development of the main character as well as the side characters. The story delivers in terms of the final twist in exposing the culprit, which is a trademark of such whodunits. The story maintains a nice pace and can be completed in a single read. The story, although following a common whodunit structure, still had an element of novelty in its storyline. It definitely does not reek of plagiarism, which I have previously experienced in many cozy mysteries. The writing is fluent and keeps the reader hooked.
The one thing I disliked about this story was its ending. Not the twist in finding the culprit in itself, because although it becomes predictable, that does not happen till the very end. No, but I did not like that the protagonist was not able to solve the mystery, and she was equally surprised by the revelation. It took away a certain element of charm for me.
Overall, this was a very cozy read, and gets my recommendation for lovers of the genre.
The fourth book in the Kate Palmer series finds her present for another murder. Kate seems to have the worst luck when it comes to finder herself involved in these mysteries, but they do make entertaining stories for us. This time she is present for the death of a bridegroom at his wedding, dropping dead before his wife to be even makes it down the altar. Despite her best intentions, Kate soon finds herself drawn into investigating the mystery, putting herself in danger again.
I do enjoy these murder mysteries. They fall into what I'd describe as a classic British mystery style. There are plenty of clues along the way, as well as the classic red herrings to throw you off the scent. I thought I'd got this one solved a couple of times before the end. Although, I had figured it out eventually.
I don't know what's next for Kate, she's promised her significant other, Woody, that she won't get involved in another murder, but I can't help but think that she might not have much choice in that when it comes to it.
If you're a fan of the classic who done it style of murder mystery, then I think you'll love this latest instalment from Dee MacDonald.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
I received this ARC via Netgalley and Bookouture, in return for an honest review. This is the fourth book in this series and easily read as a standalone. This is an enjoyable modern cozy mystery, set in a small English village. Kate Palmer and her significant other, retired DI ‘Woody’ Forrest, are attending the wedding of a young plumber to a local member of the gentry. When the groom dies at the altar, Kate and Woody are dismayed to learn that the past year had multiple weddings cancelled because one or the other party received anonymous letters. What’s happening in Tinworthy? Add in Kate’s ongoing love/hate relationship with her sister, Angie, and there’s never a dull moment in this small town when Kate and Woody are drawn into yet another unsolved death. Oh, and add in the new, lovely DI that Woody is now orienting to the area! Will love or death win out?
This is a lovely series and one I recommend. Kate is happy in her relationship with Woody and concerned that everyone seems to think they should get married. She’s dealing with her nursing duties and these pesky murders that keep cropping up around her. There’s always something happening in Tinworthy and it’s a joy to read about it.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of "A Body at the Altar" in exchange for my honest review.
This is our 4th visit with Kate Palmer, a nurse who lives in Lavender Cottage in Lower Tinworthy with her sister Angie. Kate's boyfriend Woody Forrest a retired DI is as usual warning Kate to stop investigating mysteries. They just seem to come naturally to Kate. This time they are at a wedding when there is a body at the altar. Kate soon learns that several weddings at the little church has been cancelled through the summer as have receptions at the local hotel. Who has been sending poison pen letters to the grooms causing them to call off the weddings?
When there is another body found, it changes the whole line of thinking. As in previous books one half of our super couple gets in trouble and needs rescuing. There is an unexpected surprise at the end of the book that I did not really see coming. Looking forward to where the next book will take us.
A quick and easy read featuring a nurse and a retired DI. The plot and the progression of events are good. As with the other books there is not much of an investigation and the final reveal just happens. An okay book. 3.5 stars
The title of this fourth book in the Kate Palmer series is proved to be accurate when the groom dies at the altar before he gets the chance to say "I do." It seems there is a jinx on marriages taking place in Tinworthy and several planned weddings have been called off.
Kate Palmer and her partner, Woody Forest, are at the fatal wedding and become involved in discovering just what is happening in their little village. There is much intrigue, another death, poison pen letters and a number of red herrings before a surprise at the end.
I am enjoying this series very much. The mystery in this one was interesting, the characters entertaining and the romantic interest satisfying. I look forward to the next book.
Thoroughly enjoyed this English cozy. Nurse Kate Palmer and her companion Woody Forrest are drawn into the murder investigation of a bridegroom. The suspect list and their motives grows, and Kate's reputation as an amateur investigator draws informants to her. This was the 1st Kate Palmer book I've read, & I look forward to reading the others.
A Body at the Altar, the fourth book in Dee MacDonald’s Kate Palmer series, is a delight for fans of the English village mystery. The mystery begins immediately with the book’s opening when a young groom drops dead at the altar at a wedding that nurse and part-time sleuth Kate Palmer is attending with her companion in crime solving “Woody” Forrest. A friend of Kate and Woody’s, the groom was able to marry an oft-engaged member of local gentry. When it is revealed that the young man has been poisoned, Kate and Woody are drawn into the mystery and soon discover that multiple weddings have been canceled in Tinworthy in recent months, the prospective grooms having been sent letters detailing hidden secrets about the soon to be brides.
As usual, Kate finds herself navigating the intricacies of village life and uncovering plenty of motives and suspects. In fact, it is not even clear if only one culprit is involved. A Body at the Altar will not only keep readers guessing, but also offers the opportunity to get to know Kate’s world a little more intimately, the relationship between Kate and Woody’s. A surprise ending will please fans of the series.
Full Disclosure--NetGalley and the publisher provided me with a digital ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
A Body at the Altar was a fun read. Kate Palmer is a nurse and main character along with her boyfriend Woody Forest who is a retired Detective Inspector. They are attending the wedding of his friend Joe Perry to Melissa Bowen. As they are saying their vows Joe keels over and dies at the alter. The other supporting characters remain the same from the earlier books in the series and the new ones add to the story and suspense. There is a mystery of other grooms getting letters along with Joe just before they are to get married which cancels the other weddings. Joe, in spite of the letter plans to follow through with the wedding. Charlotte Martin a new DJ takes over the investigation with the help of Woody. Kate is puzzled about the death of Joe and decides to help Woody found who killed Joe. She takes many adventures trying to find out who did it. Kate suspects many of the characters but when Woody is missing she and Charlotte search for him finding him in the church yard drugged. Because of this they find out who killed Joe and why. Kate loves Woody but does not want to give up her independence even though Woody has asked her to marry him. When he is between life and death she realizes how much he means to her. The ending is a pleasant surprise.
I look forward to the next book in this series and what adventures Kate and Woody partake in.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
One of my fav authors and fav series’ so no surprise that the blurb that goes with this book ‘you will finish this in one sitting’ was for me true…..
I love this authors easy story telling style and fab creation of characters and here in Book 4 there is more high dungeon afoot in the village of Tinworthy where Joe who is about to be married doesn’t quite make it to the end of the service!
All ears and eyes are on Kate now to solve this latest mystery in this beautiful but troubled village where murders happen as frequently as the day dawns, this time it seems letters have been sent telling tales to the soon to be bride/groom of various couples and this latest death is a part of this ‘carryings on’
The village folk are as always majestic in their ways and gossip and we meet quite the cast, all memorable, all quirky, most loving to tell the tale and share their opinions, the village party chapter is just brilliant, all the characters, good and not so good in nature are as always fascinating to read about
Kate is as she always is unassuming yet strong and Miss Marpleish ( although she wouldn’t thank me for saying that)
The whodunit ends surprisingly ( I didn’t guess who the killer was ) and then the book ends perfectly
I honestly love these books ( can you tell ? ) 🤗

This was a delightful cozy mystery. I had read another Kate Palmer mystery previously, so I was familiar with some of the characters in this book. The book had a good plot, intrigue and relatable characters. This book was engrossing from the first few sentences. I highly recommend this book to other cozy mystery readers. I look forward to reading other Kate Palmer mysteries.
Kate Palmer, RN, is known as Tinworthy's own Miss Marple. She has been involved in one murder after another since arriving in Cornwall. Kate is investigating once again in this 4th in the series.
Several couples in Tinworthy. planning to marry , have received anonymous letters resulting in the couples calling off the Wedding. With the one exception of Joe, whose ankles gave way, he sank to the floor at the altar. CPR was not successful. The reason? Murdered! Kate and her boyfriend Woody are on the case.
Kate's sister Angie's business is doing very well and Kate and Woody are navigating their relationship, i.e. to marry or stay as is.
There is a list of murder suspects and when there is a 2nd murder, the list grows. It's a slow and steady investigation until the end , when things get heart pounding .
There is also a heartwarming surprise at the end! Can't wait until book #5!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book which publishes on Oct 18th, 2021
Nurse Kate Palmer thought the pretty Cornish village of Tinworthy would be the perfect place for a peaceful retirement. She couldn’t have been more wrong! But even she is shocked when she attends a beautiful wedding at St. Pirin’s Church and the handsome groom drops dead in front of her very eyes. While the rest of the wedding party panics, Kate notices the strange behaviour of the not-so-blushing bride and the posh mother-in-law – and vows to find out the truth behind the poor young man’s sudden demise. Especially when the new detective Charlotte Martin makes it known that she doesn’t want Kate involved – and also shows an interest in Woody Forrest, Kate’s partner in crime-solving. This is a classic cozy and I'm pretty slipper and a cup of tea are required accompaniments. It was a quick read and everything tied up neatly at the end. Sometimes a nice, uncomplicated cozy is what life needs. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
The book starts with a happy occasion, but soon turns in to a nightmare...
Those who have already met nurse Kate Palmer know her enough to realise her nose starts twitching straight away. She wants to find out who is responsible and put them behind bars once and for all.
Woody, her partner, is not happy and hopes she finally listens to him and stops sleuthing. Kate would not be Kate though if she would listen and does what she does best: trying to solve the crime.
When she starts to close in on the culprit and confesses something to Woody, he has enough...
Kate realises she should not have seen his concern as trying to tell her what to do. Has she ruined everything or does she still has a chance?
Does the book end at the same place as it started and who are the spotlights on this time? Grab a copy and find out for yourself.
Another great story starring our retired police detective Woody and our sleuthing nurse Kate. 5 stars
Thank you
The groom falls dead at the altar leaving the bride an unmarried widow. Weird seris of events has been going on. This book will keep you guessing until the end. Highly entertaining! Thanks #netgalley and #Bookouture for the eARC in exchange for an honest review . All opinions are mine.

Mysterious and Malicious notes have caused the cancellation of 3 weddings and could this be the reason the groom to be dies

A Bizarre Series Of Crimes….
The fourth in the Kate Palmer mystery series. Kate, and sister Angie, have relocated to a seemingly peaceful Cornish village. A departure from the hustle and bustle of London, Kate, a practice Nurse, is looking forward to a more sedate lifestyle. The last thing she expected was to become embroiled in murder and mayhem, dealing with dead bodies was most definitely not on her agenda. Naturally inquisitive, some would say interfering, Kate becomes determined to solve any crime she encounters especially of the murderous variety and much to the consternation of the perpetrators. When a bizarre series of crimes occurs, involving poison pen letters, postponed weddings and deaths, Kate is ready to get involved once again. With a likeable protagonist in Kate, a colourful cast of supporting characters, and a delightful setting this is another thoroughly enjoyable, fully entertaining read providing some gentle escapism.
