I did not think that Halberstam could top Summer of '49. To be honest, I do not think he did top that book - but it is very, very close. October 1964 reflects on the issues of the times, issues that still haunt us today: race. The changing times we perfectly reflected in the values of the two teams. The Yankees represented the prevailing customs, while the upstart Cardinals were more progressive. This is a spectacular book for baseball AND non-baseball fans.
