This book was just amazing! I read The Whistler shortly after it was published, and I just loved the characters that were in the story. Now Lacy is back, a little older and a little more cynical. Lacy is thrown in another case-- unwillingly-- and the story is just phenomenal. There is no mystery here-- we know who the killer is, and much of the book is told from his point of view. But that makes this book all the more interesting and diabolical. I really enjoyed this book, and getting to know Lacy again.
Thank you to the Author, Publisher and Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have not read a John Grisham book in a LONG time and this was a good one to jump back in with. His books are usually engaging and while this one took a bit for me to get into, I loved the premise and easily found myself getting wrapped up in the story.
Lacy works for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct which investigates complaints about judges. Mostly unfounded complaints from people angry with the verdict the judges handed down, but every once in a while, a legit complaint is made. Like the mysterious one from Jeri, whose complaint becomes more likely to be substantiated the more Lacy investigates.
I do love a good John Grisham, and this one did not disappoint. This was a little different than the usual courtroom dramas, but I liked it just as well. I did not realize it was the second Lacy Stoltz book until the end. This reads well as a stand alone book, but there are several allusions to the first book that I probably would have understood better if I would have read the first one. Still, a great choice for suspense and action.
Another winner from John Grisham. I enjoyed the characters and the setting.
Highly recommended to fans of other Grisham courtroom thrillers.
It has been a long time since I have read a John Grisham. This doesn’t seem like the previous books I have read but it has made me want to add more Grisham’s to my TBR pile. Good characters. Interesting premise. Wondered how it would end. It is a four star read.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the DRC.
Another fun read from Mr. Grisham. I hope he continues this series with his interesting heroine. I look forward to everything he writes. His Jake Brigance books are my favorite.
Another John Grisham book, that everyone should enjoy. It's nice to know you can always count on some authors to not disappoint.
Grisham’s latest legal thriller will keep you engrossed and on the edge of your seat. He does bring back a character from a previous novel. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book. It hit a lot of elements that make his legal thrillers unputdownable. Lots of twists and a creepy killer who happens to be a judge . His revenge on those he has felt wronged by spans many years. Join Lacey and her gang as they try to hunt down this serial killer. #TheJudgesList #NetGalley Thank you kindly for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I am a huge John Grisham fan and this one was just as good as his others. I did not realize that it contained two stories but loved both of them. The characters are so developed and real as are most of Grisham's. I love the fact that both of the main characters are strong women who are determined to have justice served.
Started off a bit slow, but by the 1/3 mark I was totally hooked! Despite this book not featuring a bit of courtroom drama, it can easily stand with John Grisham’s very best. His exploration of a well-liked and respected judge who is also a serial killer is an interesting and fully developed one, aided by Grisham’s willingness to dive deep into the killer’s head. This is a vast improvement over its predecessor featuring these characters, The Whistler.
You obviously cannot go wrong with a John Grisham book. No complaints from this lawyer! Loved it - thank you!
I do love reading Grisham's novels. I did enjoy this at the start because it involved a different premise - a judge as a serial killer but I did want to see more character development around the judge - I wanted to better understand his intentions and motives. There is not really any thrills or plot twists. It is repetitive and slow going. There are many great Grisham novels out there - this one sadly was not one of them.
Grisham fans chomp at the bit every time he releases a new book. It’s obvious why; he has written more than thirty novels, all of which have been international bestsellers. This one is a little grislier than others I’ve read… it is about a serial killer, after all, but it has the key hallmark of a great Grisham novel: corruption. It is dramatic, suspenseful, and fast-paced, with likable characters (except for the murderer, of course) and I tore through it. 4 stars.
Genre: Legal Thriller
For fans of: James Patterson, Scott Turow, Lisa Scottoline, Michael Connelly, and Phillip Margolin
I love John Grisham books and this thriller is no exception. Scary to think that a cold blooded killer could also be a sitting judge. This is a real page-turner and doesn’t disappoint.
John Grisham is a for sure read for me! I have long enjoyed his legal thrillers. The Judge's List was another great entry into that genre. I was a fan of Lacy Stoltz in The Whistler. She is a sensile yet imperfect person who wants to do her job as best as she can. In The Judge's List she is trying to help a woman who has been investigating her father's death for decades. Eventually, the woman realizes she needs more help since she is dealing with a respected judge who is possibly also a serial killer.
I flew through this book wanting to see how it ended and see if all the theories were actually true. I love the way John Grisham is able to draw readers in for a smart, detailed thriller that just makes you want to read more.
John Grisham does it again with the suspense, murders, and strong characters. It was great that another story featured Lacey as she hunts a judge who is also a serial killer. Just when you think you have the ending figured out be prepared for a twist. Fans of Grisham will love this one.
Another solid John Grisham title. Multiple copies of The Judge's List has been bought and enjoyed by my library's patrons.
This was my second John Grisham book ever - I started with the Whistler (which is the first book of this duo)....and at first I wasn't sure if his writing style was for me....but I really enjoyed the Whistler. I enjoyed it so much I was excited to pick up the Judge's List to see where the story continued. Really enjoyed this book. Crazy to think that we need this type of bureau for Judge investigations!
This book is a typical John Grisham... lawyers, murder, and the who dunit! But this one has a little twist, we actually know who did it, and now the lawyers have to investigate and put the pieces together so they can not only get the killer kicked off the bench, but they have to get him convicted of murder too! I love John Grisham, and this is one of his finest!
Some of John Grisham's books I love and others not so much. This one kind of fell in-between for me. I liked the main characters and their heartfelt tenacity. I was engaged from the get go and found the plot easy to follow along. I was expecting one of Grisham's iconic twists at the end and it just never came. The ending was completely underwhelming for me and I felt like it could been so much more. I will definitely still be recommending this, especially to Grisham fans. It just wasn't my favorite!
Many thanks to Netgalley, Doubleday Books and John Grisham for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
