I really wanted to love this because the cover is STUNNING, but it fell flat for me. The writing was supposed to be new adult, but felt severly younger, as well as a main character who started as insufferable, only to end up being even more insufferable.
Had so much fun with this Young Adult Fantasy! Overall, the premise is the strong point here. The world building is interesting, the fantasy elements work, and it's definitely a set up for the type of book that feels like you could immerse yourself in it, and that it would build the type of space for a successful YA series. The unfortunate part for me on this one were the characters in the world. There's not much depth and dimension, and I wish we could have seen a stronger sense of self from our lead.
I originally requested this book from Netgalley because the description and cover reminded me of The Selection series which I loved. This isn't quite as great as that series, but it was quite good, and definitely still worth the read.
Sabeara is a princess in name only until she is granted her power on her 18th birthday. When the neighboring kingdom threatens her reign and takes her hostage, Sabeara must save her lands and her crown.
I appreciate that this is a coming-of-age story, but I wish when Sabeara was in distress she wasn't quite so helpless. It seemed a bit too dramatic a difference from the situations where she was a strong female heroine.
I really love the cover of this book and the second one though, particularly the dresses, and it definitely makes me want to buy a physical copy of the whole series.
The plot of the story is intricate and complex, and very enjoyable. Overall if you enjoy fairy-tale fantasy and forbidden love, I think you will enjoy this one.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me a free eARC of this book to read in exchange for my review!
Thank you NetGalley for this arc!
Honestly it took a long while to make a proper review for this! But it’s put me in such a big slump I didn’t even know what to do. I’d anything the story, the charcaters were all enamoring and perfect and I cannot wait to read more from this author!
This was a fabulous book. It was funny and had wonderful pacing. I would read this author again. I would recommend this book to others.
This was my first read from Kendra Thomas and it for sure won't be my last. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me the arc to this book. I adore arranged marriage trope when it is done right, and it was done so well within this book. The characters were well developed, and the story flowed really nicely. I'm excited to pick up some more works from Kendra.
I loved this book. I loved the world building and the characters! I will be shortly reading the next in the series as well. I loved the relationships that were built around the main character. I would recommend this book to others as well.
What a stunning cover!!! This book was a fun easy read. It's super Y/A in the best way. It brought me back to my early teens reading about a princess. The characters sometimes did things that made me want to tell at them but that's the beauty of being young and unaware. What a fun time being swept up in this read!
I am unable to provide feedback for this title - It has been brought to my attention by several members of the LGBTQIA+ and book community that this author's actions and comments demonstrate that they are anti-LGBTQIA+. I refuse to support an author who spreads such hate.
Please ignore the star rating as obviously this doesn't apply.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
The cover of this book drew me in because it reminded me of The Selection series by Kiera Cass, but this was not that. I was not interested past the first chapter to continue reading this book.
Why is no one gushing about this??? Sabeara’s story is wonderfully written and I couldn’t put this down! I am here ready for her and Mid’s HEA but even more so I cannot WAIT to see how strong she becomes in the sequel and how kick ass she will be! My heart yearns for her and Mid and I couldn’t help but have my own heart shatter each time they met only to leave each other. I’m reallllllllly hoping things work out for them!
Reminiscent of the Selection series by Keira Cass in more than just the cover art, Granted is a fantasy tale of adventure, danger, love, and magical forces. Teen readers will love this story.
Sabeara is a princess awaiting the power that will be gifted to her on her 18th birthday. But with every gift, there is a curse, and this one could change Sabeara's fate forever. When the neighboring kingdom threatens her kingdom, Sabeara is plunged headfirst in a fight to save her land and her crown. Taken captive, she ends up rescued by a handsome stranger who gets her home safely, only for him to show up weeks later engaged to marry her older sister. Sabeara's heart isn't glowing, it's broken and the curse is closer than ever.
This was a good book, not overwhelmingly great but still a solid fantasy read. There are lots of classic tropes, the princess destined to save the kingdom, star crossed lovers, evil forces and more. Sabeara bounced back and forth often between being super strong and super helpless. I understand it is a coming of age tale for teen readers, but I wish she hadn't acted so helpless sometimes. The first half of the book had a very different feel from the first half but overall, worth reading.
The synopsis of this book sounded so good, but the story fell flat for me. I wanted to love it, but it just didn’t reach the mark. It’s unfortunate.
I liked this one. I didn’t love it, but the story was intriguing enough to keep reading. I loved the “save the kingdom” aspect of the story, but it wasn’t an addicting read. I did enjoy the twists and turns in the book and liked the main character. I just wish the pacing was done a bit better. Overall, an entertaining read though.
This book was a frustrating read for me. The synopsis of the book sounded great! But the actual story was very disappointing.
First, the MC, Sabaera was, well, annoying to me. I needed her to make up her mind on who she was: whiny or strong. And that really annoyed me.
Second, the insta-love trope is not my thing. The lead-up to how characters fall in love is always the best part, and this felt very juvenile, and well, I guess on point for Sabaera.
While the ending was left as a cliffhanger, I will not be wanting to see the next part of this story.
2/5 stars.
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book.
Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
This had so much potential but just wasn't it for me unfortunately. Good intriguing concept! However, it was too unnecessarily wordy and I wasn't a fan of the main characters. I warmed up to them enough that I *may* look into reading more, but it wouldn't be a priority for me.
At first, the book was slow moving but by the end I could not put it down I'm excited to read the next book A must read for anyone who loves a good coming of age book woth strong female and save the world from evil type of book.
This felt very much like a self publish. It is rough around the edges and doesn't seem to know where it is going. I do not rec this one for any library.
i requested this book because the cover reminded me of the selection series, so it might be my fault that i couldnt get into it ...
