Immortal's Honor is the 14th book in Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors, but as a religious reader of this series, I can attest to the continued quality and entertainment provided by this series. Ms Zanetti pens exciting and captivating stories with characters that reach out and grab hold of your heart and refuse let go as their journey progresses.
Sam is a character who while projecting a fun and carefree demeanour, has also inspired loyalty, protection, and a profound love for his family. Danger, suspense, and the perils presented by ominous foes are never lacking in these gripping and fast-paced stories, and Sam’s book is no exception. But this devoted and often underestimated warrior also deserves his chance at a HEA, and Honor McDovall may just be the person to show Sam that his life can be more than the constant threat of war.
While some series can lose their impact over time and the reader’s interest diminishes; Dark Protectors is every bit as good at book 14 as it was at book 1. Ms Zanetti has once again awed me with her world building and imagination and provided an exceptional storyline, engaging characters and an all-round, thoroughly entertaining read.
IMMORTAL’S HONOR is the fourteenth instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s contemporary, adult DARK PROTECTORS paranormal / fantasy romance series. This is vampire-demon hybrid Sam Kyllwood, and psychiatrist Honor McDovall’s story line. IMMORTAL’S HONOR can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order, or at the very least, this particular arc of the series focusing on the group of Seven beginning with book eight VAMPIRE’S FAITH, as there is a on-going premise throughout.
SOME BACKGROUND: A thousand years earlier, a number of immortal warriors went through a ritual that, if they survived, hardened their bodies against attack, a ritual meant to create a group of Seven known as The Shield. The Shield was created to protect the world from an evil race of vampires known as the Kurjans, their sect group known as the Cysts, and ultimately a rogue warrior once considered a friend- Ulric-a male of immense power. To protect the human race, Ulric was captured, and along with two of the Seven, was encapsulated in one of three spheres for all eternity but the spheres are no longer capable of holding the ‘Seven’, and the warriors have returned to Earth. As the warriors search for the ‘Keys’ to perform the ritual, the ‘Lock’ must be protected in order to take down the evil that is hoping to take over the world.
Told from a number of third person perspectives following several intersecting paths IMMORTAL’S HONOR follows the building romance and relationship between vampire-demon hybrid Sam Kyllwood, and psychiatrist Honor McDovall. Honor McDovall is done, having caught her boyfriend with someone else but Honor never expected to be rescued aka kidnapped by a man who claimed to be a demon vampire, and said demon vampire suspected Honor was his mate. Honor’s gift was powerful for an enhanced human female, and thusly made her a target of the Kurjan empire. Staying with the shifter Bear nation, Honor and Sam take their relationship to the next level but Honor continues to struggle with the idea of mating forever, a mating that could save her life in the wake of possible war with the Kurjan army.
Meanwhile, eighteen year old, Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood has unknowingly played into the hands of the enemy. Hope’s nightly dream walking with her friends Paxton and Kurjan Drake has revealed betrayal at the deepest level.
The relationship between Sam and Honor is one of immediate attraction. Sam believes Honor is his mate but for some reason the mating mark refuses to appear.Honor battles between head and heart knowing to commit to Sam means a commitment to forever but Honor’s powers continue to get stronger, a strength that will be needed when the Kurjans take aim. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble case of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Bear and his mate Nissa McDunphy, and several members of the Bear Shifter nation MC; dragon shifter Flynn; demon/vampire Garrett Kayrs; Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood, Paxton Phoenix, Vero and Drake; Ulric, and Jaydon.
IMMORTAL’S HONOR is a story of power, betrayal, and vengeance; family, relationships, friendships and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is intriguing, engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are powerful, dynamic and determined.

I received an advanced reader copy to leave an honest review of this book. I have read the entire Dark Protectors series and would highly recommend if you like paranormal romance with lots of action, romance and alpha men. I am a big fan of Zanetti's work and have read most of her series. She has an excellent writing style and really keeps the reader engaged.
I loved this book! This is book 14 in the series and follows Sam and Honor's story. I would definitely recommend reading the other books in the story first so you have the background information but you don't have to per se.
Sam is what is called the "Keeper" in the series and is very important for the final ritual that will kill off the big bad who is featured throughout the book. Honor is an enhanced human which means she is able to mate with an immortal and share powers. Honor can basically go into people's minds and help them detect lies, truths and just monitor brain activity. Sam is having a problem where he keeps inadvertently generating fire and blowing things up. This calms when he is around Honor for some reason and he ends up transferring some of this to her. He refuses to mate her (regardless of the fact the mating mark refuses to appear for him) because he knows he will most likely die either from the fire problem or the final ritual. But Honor is in danger so he can't leave her unprotected. As they learn more about each other, things get hot and heavy in the romance department and in the timeline of war commencing.
I love Sam in this book. In previous books, he is so laidback that you don't realize how alpha and bad@$$ he is. Honor is funny and sweet and is perfect for him. She doesn't let him get away with things just because he is an immortal.
Overall definitely recommend! Also - loved the quick scene with Roscoe who is from Zanetti's Deep Ops series....love that dog!
'Immortal's Honor' is another great installment in Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors series. I absolutely love this world that Zanetti has created. All of the characters are smart, strong, independent and sexy. The most recent books in this series revolve around The Seven. A group of immortal warriors who have volunteered to save the world from an evil fanatic. This story focuses on Sam Kylewood, which I feel is a bonus as I didn't anticipate getting his story when we were introduced to The Seven.
Sam Kylewood is the younger brother to Demon King Zane and older brother to Logan, one of the newest members of The Seven. Eighteen years ago, when his niece was born, Sam learned that she had been born both the Lock and the Keeper to the ritual The Seven planned to perform to kill the evil Cyst leader Uric. Sam knew that he would do anything to protect his neice and decides to take on the role of Keeper. At some point in his missions with The Seven he develops the ability to uncontrollably set things on fire and create explosions.
Honor McDovall has always had a talent for reading people. It is what makes her such a great asset to Homeland Security. When Sam gets arrested after one of his explosions, Honor interrogates him to determine if he is a terrorist. Sam realizes that Honor is an Enhanced female with an extremely strong talent. Some how his ability to set fires has transferred to Honor during their meeting and he vows to protect her at all costs.
I love everything about Honor McDovall. She is described as a curvy woman who is not ashamed of her body. When introduced to the supernatural world she isn't an immediate believer but once she acknowledges what she sees she embraces the ability to be of help. Sam Kylewood was always a man of mystery. He was on the fringe in the previous stories, working on secret missions for both his brother Zane and The Seven. You always knew their was something more to him. I really enjoyed getting to know Sam and Honor in this latest installment of the Dark Protectors. I know the end of this storyline is near and I am sad it is coming quickly but excited to see how everything will end.
While this may be book 14 in this series, honestly-this series just never gets old! Anytime I pick up a book by this author, I just know that I am going to get not only a great read but a great story as well! Sam Kyllwood is the keeper of the circle, whatever that is supposed to mean. And he is righteously angry that his little brother is supposed to be in a fight to the death in this circle. But now that he is randomly making things explode, apparently he can get new abilities no matter how old he is. And now he is dealing with a suspicious, sexy human woman who attracts him like no other. Honor McDovall is an interrogator with Homeland Security, and she is one of the best they have ever had. But her gifts are slowly driving her insane, but she will use them until she can't. And when her job puts her in front of a man she knows is deadly, she knows he has gifts that surpass her own. But when danger comes after them both, can she trust him to keep her safe?
I absolutely loved Sam's story! I have been impatiently waiting for his and Garrett's books while seeing the little snippet's that have been popping up in other books on them. And this book in absolutely no way disappointed! Sam is everything I expected him to be but he is also much more than I had hoped for! He has always been the one that stays in the background. You know he is there to a point but you never really got a sense of who he is or what he can do. And he keeps a LOT hidden from everyone. He is a fixer. He want's his family and friend's to be happy and safe-and he is more than willing to do what needs to be done in order to accomplish that. But when he does these things, he doesn't let anyone know that he is doing it. He doesn't do it for the accolades or the attention, it's truly a need in him to fix their issues-whatever they may be. It's how he becomes the keeper to begin with. And I loved that about him. He has this depth of caring to him that I wasn't expecting, but it totally fits him!
Honor is a psychologist who handles interrogation's for Homeland Security. She can be sweet and caring but man she isn't afraid to be sassy and give back just as good as she gets!! I love the fact that she can pull other's in and make them realize they can stand up for themselves and fight! And I definitely wasn't expecting what she can do with her power! But man, it was great!! They have this chemistry from the start that was off the charts hot! Which I always love in these books! Throw in the snippets with Garrett (who I really can't wait for now!!!) and Bear and Nessa-you have me hooked and not wanting it to end!
Explosions, secret ceremonies, danger, intrigue, betrayal, dreamworlds, a romance that will knock you out of your seat, and a group of beings that seem so real you want to see more of them.

Despite this being book 14 in the series, this is only my second Dark Protector's book, and wow does this one pack a punch. It starts right off dropping you into intense action, and just keeps going from there. So much happens during the course of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this action-filled, intense romance. Honor has no idea that she is an "enhanced female" or what that meant. She knew she was different but not the why or truly even the how of it. Sam and her cross paths and from there their futures become intertwined. Despite only having read one of this series before, I was easily able to follow along. I loved that even though I'm new to this world, and it is a complicated one, Rebecca Zanetti is so talented that you are able to pick right up with what is going on, what the world is about and not feel lost or overwhelmed. If you are a fan of paranormal romance, vampire romance, or even just a good romantic suspense, then this is definitely worth picking up and reading!
This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, steamy and fast-paced. It held my interest and I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
Immortal's Honor is the fourteenth book in the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti. Once I started reading, I could not stop. A well-written, fast-paced read that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat with twists, turns, undeniable romance, and a hint of mystery. There was plenty to love about this story, and here at the end, I can't wait until the next book in this series.
If you enjoy paranormal romance then surely you are familiar with Rebecca Zanetti. The latest entry in the world of the Dark Protector’s is Immortal's Honor. With characters of integrity, who were constant and steady in face of confusion and misunderstanding this is an amazing read. Lots of surprise, lots of new questions and lots of old faces showing up in this story of Sam and Honor.
Vampire-Demon Sam Kyllwood is very likable desist his alpha tendencies. Those are standard for these males in this author’s world. With an arsenal of immoral abilities he is one dangerous guy. Good thing he is one of the good guys even when angry. Honor McDovall is part of a Homeland Security interrogation team. I really liked how she was just as tough as anyone no matter that she thought her “gifts” were literally leading to insanity. She has courage, perseverance as well as having a smart think-on-your-feet brain. They both need it if they are to survive and have that lasting love that they both want in the end. One of the best of the series.
4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Absolutely love this series!! This was such a fast read for me because I literally couldn't put it down! Awesome storyline and the perfect mix of romance and action, with all the good sexy times included. I love Sam and Honor together, and as dynamic stand on their own type of characters, as all the characters in this series have been! This series just keeps getting better and better even though it was already the best!!! RZ continues to be one of my all time favorite authors with so many great series out there. Read this one, but read them all!!!
Sam is a vampire-demon hybrid and he keeps setting off explosions and can't seem to control it so when he's taken in for questioning by Swat, he's questioned by Honor. She's different and he can sense that right away.
Honor is an enhanced female and enhanced females are being kidnapped by the Kurjan's so now she's in danger and Sam knows it. But it's not until Honor touches him and somehow part of his fire curse is transferred to her that things take a drastic turn.
Now that Honor has fire shooting from her fingers, she thinks that it has to do with chemicals on Sam's clothing, not wanting to believe that the fire is coming from her. So when Sam shows up at her door and kidnaps her...for her own safety, she doesn't stop trying to get away until she watches a bear shift into a man. Shifters exist, so what else could be real and maybe Sam really is trying to keep her safe.
This is the 14th book in the Dark Protectors series and it's one of the best books yet. The world building and characters are what keep bringing me back to this series because it's been so much fun to read.
The Kurjan's and Ulric are crazy dangerous and now we know that they have to be taken out and hopefully the seven will be able to do it soon.
I love the world that this author has created even though at times it can be confusing when you first read about it. The characters have been great and I love getting glimpses into their lives while reading the series. I'm really looking forward to reading more of this series.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
"I won't harm you, Honor". " You're a special one, aren't you?"
These are Sam Kyllwood's first words to Dr. Honor McDoval, after he's arrested for being a 'Fired Starter. and he realizes he's speaking to an Enhance female, an Empath, and a strong human lie detector. Honor's gift has really helped in her job as a Profiler, and Interrogator for Homeland Security. Sam feels connected to Honor, and with her ability to slide into a person's mind has taken some of Sam's gift of fire, as well as moving through different dimensions. Too bad neither can control it. Sam's hoping that by mating Honor this will help them both in controlling their gifts. But, for some reason during mating, Sam's mark won't appear which would give Honor immortality. What's wrong? Sam, and Honor must figure this out as they're both pull into the dimension that holds the Dark Protector greatest enemy prisoner, Ulric.
Sam is always calm, cool, in control. The one that others go to for reason or to get things done without the crazy. Until now and it's doesn't look like he'll be able to keep that under wraps for much longer. Honor has always been a little different with an ability she doesn't quite understand but has been able to use to help her make a career in psychology and assisting government agencies in detecting truth vs lie during investigation interviews. But she's tired of dealing with criminals and is just about to take a sabbatical before starting a new phase in her life. Little does she realize just how well the timing is or how different that new phase is going to be when her and Sam's paths cross. I enjoyed really getting to finally know Sam (and see him not be quite so calm, cool & in control). Honor is smart, practical and not a push over. She keeps her wits about her as she gets pulled into and then suddenly finds herself over her head in Sam's immortal world. There is plenty of action and a touch of humor along with intrigue as attraction evolves to admiration and onto love between the two. I enjoyed Honor's journey of discovery -- of these hidden immortal races, new friendships, of her own abilities and confidence in using and expanding them. While I understand its a significant part of the over reaching arc of the current series plot, I could have done without the parts of the book tied to the "teen brigade" as I found those to be annoying and frustrating (and impacted my overall enjoyment). While this book could be enjoyed as a stand-a-lone, it would be better enjoyed by those familiar with the series (particularly the current arc regarding "the seven").
If I could give this 10 stars, I would. So much drama! So many secrets! So many lies! I can’t wait to see how this web unravels. Another great addition to the Dark Protector’s series. 5 stars!!
Sam is having some major problems and needs to figure them out quickly before it is too late. Arrested for bombing buildings, Honor is brought in to interrogate him. She is a very strong, enhanced female who can read other people. Sam is supposed to be her last before she moves on from Homeland Security, tired of hiding what she does. Change happens, just now how she expects it to!
This is a wild ride of action and humor. Two very strong and interesting characters.
Cool ideas, fun action, and passionate connection between Honor and Sam! Both Sam and Honor have some interesting powers; they both kick some butt! Enjoy all the paranormal aspects; shifters, vampires, and demons! Love the whole fated mates scenario too! This series is entertaining! Good suspense!
A great installment of the Dark Protectors series! Plenty of all kinds of action, humor, continued world building and one hot couple! Sam and Honor are the main characters of this story and they don’t fail to keep you entertained. I am a long time reader of this series and this author. everything Ms. Zanetti touches is gold!
Immortals Honor by Rebecca Zanetti
Dark Protectors series #14. Paranormal romance. Best read as part of the series.
Vampire Demon Sam Kyllwood is the Keeper of a foretold sacred circle. But that’s not today. Today he has to fight off the heat and flames that are pulling him into alternate dimensions. After accidentally sharing the flames with Honor, an enhanced female, Sam must protect her from the coming war.
Action packed with fighting, loving, and new friendships as the future gets closer. The sidelines are forming. The danger is closing in. Ulric pulls Sam and Hope into his dimension with threats of what’s to come.
I loved how Honor stood up to Sam and how the bears open up to her with their feelings.
Hope is now 18. She is keeping Pax and Drake nearby, but she knows the future could change everything.
Tension throughout and while Sam and Hope are now settled, readers of this series know the ultimate war is just around the corner. Strap on the seatbelt. It going to get even more ground dropping as the worlds collapse.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased all formats to keep and share.
This latest chapter in Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protector’s series has everything – action, adventure, romance, a crazed enemy and some very sarcastic bear shifters,
Vampire-Demon hybrid Sam Kyllwood sees himself as a protector. The middle of five siblings, he’s the one who runs interference and keeps the peace, everyone else’s sounding board. To protect his young niece and his brothers, Sam underwent a long and painful ritual that allows him to move between dimensions. Lately, though, his powers have been off, He finds himself being pulled by different dimensions. Add to that, when the energy in and around him builds, fires tend to start – or buildings blow up. And that’s the reason Sam finds himself in a DHS interrogation room.
Psychologist, Dr. Honor McDoval is an enhanced female, only she doesn’t know it. She only knows that she has well developed sixth sense that allows her to read people. While it helps in her consulting with DHS, she’s had enough. As a favor, she agrees to help on one more case before she takes a break to clear her thoughts. What she gets is a man who piques her curiosity. As she watches the interrogation, she finds herself drawn to the man on the other side of the window, When it’s her turn to question him, she is immediately assaulted by the energy he is emitting, another part of the puzzle that is this intriguing man. Sam is just as compelled by Honor as she is by him. He’s ready to get out of there when his brother comes to spring him. As he passes Honor on his way out the door, she grabs his arm and is surprised by the shock that runs up her arm.
Free from government questioning, anxious and on edge, Sam slips away from his brother and goes in search of Honor. For her part, Honor has nothing but questions, but she’s not about to go with Sam when he shows up at her home. Neither of them knows what happened between them, but Sam knows she needs to protected and he isn’t about to leave her alone. Given no choice, Honor finds herself in the middle of a world she never could have imagined.
Finding just what it means to be an enhance female, fighting an immortal enemy who is determined to kill Sam and capture her and surrounded by vampires, demons, shifters and new friends who might not be what they seem, Honor finds herself first depending on Sam, then admiring him his loyalty and sense of responsibility toward his family and the brother’s of the MC of which he is a part and finally needing to be his partner and his protector. But before that last part can happen, they need to survive the fight being thrust upon them.
The story is fast paced, moving quickly from one crisis to another. The dialogue is quick and witty. And the shifters add their sarcasm and snark for just a bit of levity. I’m in awe that, even as this series grow, each story is better than the last. Waiting for the next chapter gets harder and harder. Though the reading experience will be richer if you start at the beginning of the series, it’s possible to read this book without having read the previous stories. There is enough background to allow the reader to follow the action but be prepared. This book will pull you into the world of the Dark Protectors and won’t let you go. Fans of Donna Grant’s Dark Kings and Reapers will love the Dark Protectors.
