In Alexa Aston’s Disrupting the Duke, Donovan Martin becomes the new Duke of Haverhill after the death of his father and older brother. Wynter Day is Donovan’s neighbor and was a close friend of Donovan’s brother. An independent woman with no desire to marry, she has never had feelings for a man until she meets Donovan. When Wynter is injured and becomes Donovan’s holiday house guest, both must face their growing feelings for each other. Will Wynter give up her independence? Will Donovan change his roguish ways?
Wynter and Donovan feel a connection from the moment they meet, and they both fight their feelings for each other. Neither is looking for a relationship, but their chemistry is undeniable. Donovan is the first person to ever pique Wynter’s interest romantically, which is the total opposite of Donovan, who thoroughly enjoys his time with women. This is the first time he has ever had to woo a woman, and he seems to enjoy the challenge. I like that this couple challenges each other and changes each other’s perspectives on life, love, and happiness.
Donovan’s backstory, like all of the Turner Terrors’ backstories, is tragic and painful, and the way he was treated by his father is despicable. However, Donovan found a wonderful family in the other boys at Turner Academy, where he was banished after the death of his mother. The teachers and administrators at Turner Academy are amazing as well, and the way they took these abandoned boys in and provided them a safe place is so admirable. I really enjoyed this found family aspect of the story and all of the glimpses we get into Donovan and the other terror’s pasts.
Though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. However, the couples from the first two books do have roles in this book. Both couples from the first two books are fantastic, and I enjoyed seeing how their relationships have progressed and developed. I also liked seeing how the women fit in with the Turner Terrors. They are such a close-knit group of men, and I adore the brotherly bond they share and the way they welcome the wives into their fold.
I think readers who enjoy historical romance with dynamically developed characters and a chemistry-filled love story will enjoy this read and this series, and I’m eager to see which Terror will be the focus of the next book! Thanks so much to Dragonblade Publishing, NetGalley, and Alexa Aston for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have enjoyed this series and was looking forward to his one but it just didn't live up to its predecessors.
Wynter Day( yes that is her real name) has decided that she will never marry. Because she is not like OTHER women. She is not featherbrained, she likes horses and would rather be friends with single young men.
Donovan was sent to Turner Academy after his mother's death. He returns from war, now the duke as his father and brother have both died.
Donovan was okay but Wynter was annoying and there was no obstacles except Wynter didn't want to marry.
The last few chapters also sucked and were ridiculous.
I am still looking forward to Finch's story but at the moment am indifferent to Hart since we don't really know him.
The third Terrors story is about a man who send to a school away from his family because of his mother death . When he returns back the first person he mets is his neighbor dressed with man clothes . She is a woman with her own mind and she does not want to marry . Although she falls in love with him she does not accept his proposal because she does not want someone else make choices for her . He is determined to make her his wife . When she accepts an accident happens and the story of his mother death make him realise what is important to life .
I received this book from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Alexa Aston's Dukes hit me in all the feels every single time. Every one of her Dukes is my favorite, until her next book. This is book three in the Dukes Done Wrong series. While it could be read as a standalone, I strongly recommend reading the series in order to understand the complexity of the characters and the history of the Dukes Done Wrong, also known as the "Turner Terrors."
Five boys, sent away to a boarding school for troubled boys, became each other's families. This series follows their friendship as each of them find love. This book is the story of Donovan and Wynter. Wynter is the only child of an Earl and absolutely not interested in marriage. Donovan is the unexpected Duke, after the deaths of his estranged father and brother. I immensely enjoyed watching these two fall for each other. I read a lot of historical romance and normally the plot runs along smoothly with no surprises that the reader did not anticipate. Just as this book is heading toward its "happily ever after" the author throws us for a doozy of a loop that this experienced reader did not see coming.
One thing I particularly love is Aston's ability to showcase not only the five men's very different personalities easily, but to create the female counterparts that complement them perfectly. We get to see Miles, Wyatt, Emery and Meadow for a good portion of this book and get a peek into what they have been up to since their books ended.
I am especially excited for Finch's story. He has been a supporting character and his happy ending is coming up in the series. Whenever Alexa Aston writes a story with a Duke, I will run to buy it.
Alexa Aston has crafted another emotional romance that will keep you entertained from cover to cover! The Dukes Done Wrong series just gets better with each additional story and I love how characters from previous books are included in the story. It makes the series all the more enjoyable!
This story features Donovan Martin who finds himself the new Duke of Haverhill after his father and brother drown in a carriage accident. A common theme in this series is having “the spare” claim the title of Duke after the original heir has perished. I was sad to see the original heir, Sam, die in this story as he actually seemed like a decent person, but I digress. Wynter Day (Yes, that’s the heroine’s name) wants to maintain her independence and never become subservient to any man. Besides, no man has ever sparked her interest romantically. She plans to never marry and instead live her life alone doing as she pleases, when she pleases, answering to no man.
As you can imagine the chemistry between Donovan and Wynter is pretty instantaneous and when Wynter finds herself Donovan’s unplanned house guest, things heat up quickly. Could it be Wynter will change her mind on the marriage stance? Will Donovan be the perfect man for Wynter? Are things ever that easy?? Just when the two seem to be heading towards a HEA — tragedy strikes. Will this “Turner Terror” be the one who doesn’t get a happy ending? You have to read the book to see!! 😉
I loved the story, continue to adore the characters, and can’t wait for the next book! The author has created a wonderful world full of determined spares and strong women, it’s a win!
Overall 4.5 Stars ⭐️ | 4 Flames 🔥 | Highly recommend this book and the previous two books Discouraging the Duke and Deflecting the Duke
Donovan Martin was only ten years old when he was banished from his home. He was sent to a special school for "difficult " boys. There he met boys who would become friends for the rest of their lives. When he eventually gets the call to go home, it's to a place he's not prepared for.
Lady Wynter Day is much happier in the company of men. She's intelligent, capable and because she insists that she will never marry, men can relax in her company. Her neighbour and best friend recently died and now his brother has come to claim his inheritance.
Our hero has matured into a very good man who's not above asking for help from anyone he sees has the ability to help him.
Our heroine is a tomboy and intensely independent, maybe to a fault.
This is a fabulous historical romance with great characters. You might need some tissues for the first chapters. It is part of a series where each book can be read on it's own. You will want to read them all. Our Terrors are wonderful.
I loved it.
Two independent and stubborn people, Donovan and Wynter, meet. Both swear they will never marry. They try to fight the growing attraction between them. I look forward to reading the next in this series. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
4 stars
I enjoyed this book but I thought the ending was a bit over the top and didn't seem to align with the characterisation of Donovan. The Author seemed to be saying under stress Donovan showed similar attitudes which he'd condemned in his father. It's a series so the other terrors and their wives also had a part to play though if you hadn't read these I think the book would still work. Wynter is a strong woman who wants to keep her independance but of course as soon as she meets Donovan she's conflicted. Donovan was written as a bit of a lady killer and this also bothered me as in those days being sexually promiscous could lead to bad diseases.
An interesting addition to the series and I'm still eagerly awaiting Finch, the vicar's book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Disrupting the Duke, is different from the first two in this series. The Duke's heir is loved by all including Donovan. When Donovan learns of his father and brothers death he's deeply saddened by not only the loss of his brother but the man he will never get to know.
Wynter his friends to all. Some of the problem is all men fall in that bracket because she never plans to marry. She is bound and determined that no matter what kind of feelings she has for Donovan that she will not succumb and marry him. I was shocked by the ending. I liked how it ended, just shocked
